The question of the progressive increase in the displacements of a glass-reinforced plastic helicopter blade under its own weight is examined. Integral operators, expressed in terms of fractional-exponential functions, are used for solving the flexural creep problem. Experimental results and theoretical prediction of the response of glassfiber-reinforced polyester under quasi-static, static (creep), and cyclic (fatigue) loading are presented. The nonlinear strain component at static loading and the strain amplitude rate at cyclic off-axis loading of an orthotropic composite are shown to follow the associated flow rule with a single-parameter quadratic potential function. The author investigates the laws of development of creep strains in bending under conditions of steady creep. Tests run on non-standard specimens for periods of 7500 to 15 000 hr gave values of the basic parameters in the expressions used to describe the creep of the tested plastics. A method is proposed for constructing the creep curves of a material whose nonlinear memory properties are described by Rozovskii's nonlinear integral equation [2] (with allowance for the stress dependence of the relaxation time) under given periodic loading from known creep curves recorded at constant stress. In deriving the theoretical relation certain simplifying assumptions are made (the creep strain accumulated in 1–2 cycles is small, no vibration [4–6]). The relaxation properties of polyethylene are analyzed. The nonlinear time-dependent stress-strain relations and the creep and relaxation equations are obtained from the experimental creep data. Hydrostatic pressure results in decrease in the creep rate of a polymer loaded by tensile stress. The decrease in the creep rate is associated with the increase in intermolecular interaction. The correlation found between the creep rate of material loaded by a constant tensile force and with change in the melting temperature of a polymer under pressure appears to be commensurate with change in intermolecular interaction.A. A procedure is described for testing samples for creep in a climatic chamber of the Feutron 3001 type. Results of an experimental study of forward and back creep of polyester resin PN-3 under simultaneous moistening of samples in an air medium with elevated humidity are discussed. The determination of confidence intervals of deformations was studied for an individual measurement and arithmetical mean common for all points of an experimental family of curves. From the experimental data on the creep of polyamide resin and five different analytical equations of physically nonlinear creep, the problems of the computer approximation of families of creep curves and the determination of the material parameters are discussed. Summary This paper introduced a unified formulation for generalized deformation models including load dependent effects (2nd order effects). It is given in more detail for stationary creep of isotropic, orthotropic, and anisotropic material behavior. A further generalization of the introduced 6-parameter constitutive equation is possible by coupling creep and damage. These generalizations include the classical theory of creep damage [13]. The proof of the proposed theory is given in [20–22] for special cases with a reduced number of material parameters. The results of a comparative experimental investigation of the short-term static and vibrational creep of a fabric-reinforced plastic in shear in the plane of the reinforcement are presented. Tensile, compressive, torsional, and combined creep tests have been performed on tubular specimens of a glass fabric-reinforced plastic. Conclusions Comparison was made of the results of prolonged (from 2 to 6 years) control experiments of tubular specimens of PN-3 for creep during tension, torsion, and simultaneous tension and torsion under various temperature-humidity conditions with calculation based on data of short-term (up to 5 h) experiments, in which the creep process was accelerated by increase in temperature and humidity of the material. Calculation of the prolonged creep deformations expected was done from the relationships of viscoelastic properties of a linearly changing solid, generalized for the case of influence of temperature and humidity under the assumption that the volume changes only elastically. On the basis of this generalization, adherence to the temperature-humidity-time analogy is assumed to be experimentally confirmed. A method of investigating acoustic creep of polymer composites developing under the effect of static tensile forces and small amplitudes of dynamic stresses with a frequency of 20 kHz acting coaxially with the static loads is considered. Results of investigating acoustic creep of glass-fabric-reinforced plastic are presented. It is shown that the presence of a high-frequency stress component regularly accelerates relaxation processes and reduces considerably the deformation resistance of the material. Generalized curves simulating the long-time static creep of reinforced plastic are constructed by the method of temperature-time, stress-time, and vibration-time analogies. The possibility of using the theory of random processes to predict the temperature and moisture creep of polymeric materials in the presence of randomly acting temperature and humidity factors is considered. A procedure for estimating the long-term deformation under such conditions is described with reference to the uniaxial creep of PN-3 polyester resin using time—temperature and time—moisture superposition. The possible correlation of the ambient temperature and humidity is taken into account. Two polyester concretes with diabase and marble fillers and aggregates are used as examples to illustrate the possibility of using a structural approach to evaluate the creep of the composite in the initial state and after preliminary aging under laboratory conditions for a period of 12–13 yrs.
