The concept of quasi boundary triples and Weyl functions from extension theory of symmetric operators in Hilbert spaces is developed further and spectral estimates for resolvent differences of two self-adjoint extensions in terms of general operator ideals are proved. The abstract results are applied to self-adjoint realizations of second order elliptic differential operators on bounded and exterior domains, and partial differential operators with δ-potentials supported on hypersurfaces are studied.  相似文献

In this paper, we describe the behavior of bounded energy finite solutions for certain nonlinear elliptic operators on a complete Riemannian manifold in terms of its p-harmonic boundary. We also prove that if two complete Riemannian manifolds are roughly isometric to each other, then their p-harmonic boundaries are homeomorphic to each other. In the case, there is a one to one correspondence between the sets of bounded energy finite solutions on such manifolds. In particular, in the case of the Laplacian, it becomes a linear isomorphism between the spaces of bounded harmonic functions with finite Dirichlet integral on the manifolds. We consider coerciveness and Fredholmness of nonlocal boundary value problems for complete second order elliptic differential-operator equations in UMD Banach spaces. In some special cases, the main coefficients of the boundary conditions may be bounded operators and not only complex numbers. Then, we prove an isomorphism, in particular, maximal L p -regularity, of the problem with a linear parameter in the equation. In both cases, the boundary conditions may also contain unbounded operators in perturbation terms. Finally, application to regular nonlocal boundary value problems for elliptic equations of the second order in non-smooth domains are presented. Equations and boundary conditions may contain differential-integral parts. The spaces of solvability are Sobolev type spaces W p,q 2,2. In the current work a generalization of the famous Weyl-Kodaira inversion formulas for the case of self-adjoint differential vector-operators is proved. A formula for spectral resolutions over an analytical defining set of solutions is discussed. The article is the first part of the planned two-part survey on the structural spectral theory of self-adjoint differential vector-operators in matrix Hilbert spaces. The work is dedicated to Professor Ravshan Ashurov on occasion of his 50-th anniversary.  相似文献

The goal of this paper is to establish a geometric program to study elliptic pseudodifferential boundary problems which arise naturally under cutting and pasting of geometric and spectral invariants of Dirac-type operators on manifolds with corners endowed with multi-cylindrical, or b-type, metrics and ‘b-admissible’ partitioning hypersurfaces. We show that the Cauchy data space of a Dirac operator on such a manifold is Lagrangian for the self-adjoint case, the corresponding Calderón projector is a b-pseudodifferential operator of order 0, characterize Fredholmness, prove relative index formulæ, and solve the Bojarski conjecture. The extension theory for semibounded symmetric operators is generalized by including operators acting in a triplet of Hilbert spaces. We concentrate our attention on the case where the minimal operator is essentially self-adjoint in the basic Hilbert space and construct a family of its self-adjoint extensions inside the triplet. All such extensions can be described by certain boundary conditions, and a natural counterpart of Krein’s resolvent formula is obtained.  相似文献

We give a spectral analysis of some unbounded normal product HK of two self-adjoint operators H and K (which appeared in [7]) and we say why it is not self-adjoint even if the spectrum of one of the operators is sufficiently “asymmetric”. Then, we investigate the self-adjointness of KH (given it is normal) for arbitrary self-adjoint H and K by giving a counterexample and some positive results and hence finishing off with the whole question of normal products of self-adjoint operators (appearing in [1, 7, 12]). Scattering theory has its origin in Quantum Mechanics. From the mathematical point of view it can be considered as a part of perturbation theory of self-adjoint operators on the absolutely continuous spectrum. In this work we deal with the passage from the time-dependent formalism to the stationary state scattering theory. This problem involves applying Fubini's Theorem to a spectral measure integral and a Lebesgue integral of functions that take values in spaces of operators. In our approach, we use bilinear integration in a tensor product of spaces of operators with suitable topologies and generalize the results previously stated in the literature.  相似文献

We introduce a purely functional analytic framework for elliptic boundary value problems in a variational form. We define abstract Neumann and Dirichlet boundary conditions and a corresponding Dirichlet‐to‐Neumann operator, and develop a theory relating resolvents and spectra of these operators. We illustrate the theory by many examples including Jacobi operators, Laplacians on spaces with (non‐smooth) boundary, the Zaremba (mixed boundary conditions) problem and discrete Laplacians.  相似文献

Summary We are concerned with bounds for the error between given approximations and the exact eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of self-adjoint operators in Hilbert spaces. The case is included where the approximations of the eigenfunctions don't belong to the domain of definition of the operator. For the eigenvalue problem with symmetric elliptic differential operators these bounds cover the case where the trial functions don't satisfy the boundary conditions of the problem. The error bounds suggest a certain defectminization method for solving the eigenvalue problems. The method is applied to the membrane problem.  相似文献

In an American Mathematical Society Memoir, published in 2003, the authors Everitt and Markus apply their prior theory of symplectic algebra to the study of symmetric linear partial differential expressions, and the generation of self-adjoint differential operators in Sobolev Hilbert spaces. In the case when the differential expression has smooth coefficients on the closure of a bounded open region, in Euclidean space, and when the region has a smooth boundary, this theory leads to the construction of certain self-adjoint partial differential operators which cannot be defined by applying classical or generalized conditions on the boundary of the open region.

This present paper concerns the spectral properties of one of these unusual self-adjoint operators, sometimes called the ``Harmonic' operator.

The boundary value problems considered in the Memoir (see above) and in this paper are called regular in that the cofficients of the differential expression do not have singularities within or on the boundary of the region; also the region is bounded and has a smooth boundary. Under these and some additional technical conditions it is shown in the Memoir, and emphasized in this present paper, that all the self-adjoint operators considered are explicitly determined on their domains by the partial differential expression; this property makes a remarkable comparison with the case of symmetric ordinary differential expressions.

In the regular ordinary case the spectrum of all the self-adjoint operators is discrete in that it consists of a countable number of eigenvalues with no finite point of accumulation, and each eigenvalue is of finite multiplicity. Thus the essential spectrum of all these operators is empty.

This spectral property extends to the present partial differential case for the classical Dirichlet and Neumann operators but not to the Harmonic operator. It is shown in this paper that the Harmonic operator has an eigenvalue of infinite multiplicity at the origin of the complex spectral plane; thus the essential spectrum of this operator is not empty.

Both the weak and strong formulations of the Harmonic boundary value problem are considered; these two formulations are shown to be equivalent.

In the final section of the paper examples are considered which show that the Harmonic operator, defined by the methods of symplectic algebra, has a domain that cannot be determined by applying either classical or generalized local conditions on the boundary of the region.

A «CGS-property» for the spectral measures is introduced and the classical results of determining complete systems of unitary invariants for self-adjoint and bounded normal operators on separable Hilbert spaces are extended to the class of spectral measures with this property. As a consequence, the above mentioned results are extended to unbounded normal operators on separable Hilbert spaces. Moreover, three different kinds of multiplicity are defined and it is shown that for the measures with the «CGS-property» they all coincide. In the last section some analogues of the multiplicity functions defined by Stone [14] are related to the total multiplicity.  相似文献

We derive asymptotic properties for the heat kernel of elliptic cone (or Fuchs type) differential operators on compact manifolds with boundary. Applications include asymptotic formulas for the heat trace, counting function, spectral function, and zeta function of cone operators. Existence of nonzero positive solutions  of systems of second order elliptic boundary value problems under sublinear conditions is obtained. The methodology is to establish a new result on existence of nonzero positive solutions of a fixed point equation in real Banach spaces by using the well-known theory of fixed point index for compact maps defined on cones, where the fixed point equation involves composition of a compact linear operator and a continuous nonlinear map. The conditions imposed on the nonlinear maps involve the spectral radii of the compact linear operators. Moreover, the nonlinear maps are not required to be increasing in  ordered Banach spaces.  相似文献

For second order linear equations and inequalities which are degenerate elliptic but which possess a uniformly elliptic direction, we formulate and prove weak maximum principles which are compatible with a solvability theory in suitably weighted versions of L2-based Sobolev spaces. The operators are not necessarily in divergence form, have terms of lower order, and have low regularity assumptions on the coefficients. The needed weighted Sobolev spaces are, in general, anisotropic spaces defined by a non-negative continuous matrix weight. As preparation, we prove a Poincaré inequality with respect to such matrix weights and analyze the elementary properties of the weighted spaces. Comparisons to known results and examples of operators which are elliptic away from a hyperplane of arbitrary codimension are given. Finally, in the important special case of operators whose principal part is of Grushin type, we apply these results to obtain some spectral theory results such as the existence of a principal eigenvalue.  相似文献

This paper investigates the Fredholmness of a second order elliptic system on an infinite cylinder in various weighted or non-weighted Sobolev spaces, assuming homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions and suitable asymptotic behavior of the coefficients. It is shown that the index coincides with the spectral flow of an associated parametrized family of elliptic systems on the cross-section of the cylinder. Dependence or independence of the index upon the functional setting is discussed along with their impact on spectral invariance and elliptic regularity.   相似文献

We prove a stability theorem for the eigenvalues of general non-negative self-adjoint linear operators with compact resolvents and by applying it we prove a sharp stability result for the dependence of the eigenvalues of second order uniformly elliptic linear operators with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions upon domain perturbation.  相似文献
