Rouquier blocks
This paper investigates the Rouquier blocks of the Hecke algebras of the symmetric groups and the Rouquier blocks of the q-Schur algebras. We first give an algorithm for computing the decomposition numbers of these blocks in the ``abelian defect group case' and then use this algorithm to explicitly compute the decomposition numbers in a Rouquier block. For fields of characteristic zero, or when q=1 these results are known; significantly, our results also hold for fields of positive characteristic with q≠1. We also discuss the Rouquier blocks in the ``non–abelian defect group' case. Finally, we apply these results to show that certain Specht modules are irreducible.  相似文献

We investigate the separation of characters by blocks at different primes and the inclusions of q-blocks in p-blocks (viewed as sets of characters), and use these notions to prove results on the structure of the corresponding groups. In particular, we provide a new criterion for the nilpotence of a finite group G based on the separation by principal blocks, and we show that a condition on block unions has strong structural consequences.  相似文献

It is shown that the difference between Donovans conjecture and the weaker conjecture bounding Cartan numbers of blocks of finite groups by the defect of the blocks can be expressed in terms of the relationship between pairs of Galois conjugate blocks. A consequence is that for principal blocks the two conjectures are equivalent.Received: 11 August 2003  相似文献

This work examines the possible projectivity of 2-modular block parts of nonprojective Lefschetz characters over 2-local geometries of several sporadic groups. Previously known results on M 12, J 2, and HS are mentioned for completeness. The main new results are on the sporadic groups Suz, Co 3, Ru, ON, and He. For each group, the Lefschetz character is calculated, and its 2-modular block parts are examined for projectivity. In each case it is confirmed that a nonprincipal block part contains a nonprojective summand. The case of ON is additionally found to have a nonprojective summand in its principal block part. Nineteen of the sporadic groups (including many previously known cases) are categorized into three classes based on projectivity properties of their Lefschetz characters.  相似文献

Let π be a set of prime numbers andG a finite π-separable group. Let θ be an irreducible π′-partial character of a normal subgroupN ofG and denote by Iπ′ (G‖θ), the set of all irreducible π′-partial characters Φ ofG such that θ is a constituent of ΦN. In this paper, we obtain some information about the vertices of the elements in Iπ′ (G‖θ). As a consequence, we establish an analogue of Fong's theorem on defect groups of covering blocks, for the vertices of the simple modules (in characteristicsp) of a finitep-solvable group lying over a fixed simple module of a normal subgroup.  相似文献

Abstract

We investigate the role played by torsion properties in determining whether or not a commutative quasiregular ring has its additive and circle composition (or adjoint) groups isomorphic. We clarify and extend some results for nil rings, showing, in particular, that an arbitrary torsion nil ring has the isomorphic groups property if and only if the components from its primary decomposition into p-rings do too.

We look at the more specific case of finite rings, extending the work of others to show that a non-trivial ring with the isomorphic groups property can be constructed if the additive group has one of the following groups in its decomposition into cyclic groups: Z2 n (for n ≥ 3), Z2 ⊕ Z2 ⊕ Z2, Z2 ⊕ Z4, Z4 ⊕ Z4, Z p ⊕ Z p (for odd primes, p), or Z p n (for odd primes, p, and n ≥ 2).

We consider, also, an example of a ring constructed on an infinite torsion group and use a specific case of this to show that the isomorphic groups property is not hereditary.  相似文献

Let (A,*) be an involutive ring. Then the groups Sl *(2, A), are a non commutative version of the special linear groups Sl(2, F) defined over a field F. In particular, if A = M(n, F) and * is transposition, then Sl *(2, M n (F)) = Sp(2n, F). The above groups were defined by Pantoja and Soto-Andrade, and a set of generators for the group SSl *(2, A) (which is either Sl *(2, A) or a index 2 subgroup of Sl *(2, A)) was given in the case when A is an artinian ring. In this paper, we prove that the mentioned generators provide a presentation of the mentioned groups in the case of simple artinian rings.Partially supported by FONDECYT project 1030907 and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso  相似文献

We prove that a set of characters of a finite group can only be the set of characters for principal blocks of the group at two different primes when the primes do not divide the group order. This confirms a conjecture of Navarro and Willems in the case of principal blocks.  相似文献

We study a new dynamical invariant for dicrete groups: the cost. It is a real number in {1−1/n}∪[1,∞], bounded by the number of generators of the group, and it is well behaved with respect to finite index subgroups. Namely, the quantities 1 minus the cost are related by multiplying by the index. The cost of every infinite amenable group equals 1. We compute it in some other situations, including free products, free products with amalgamation and HNN-extensions over amenable groups and for direct product situations. For instance, the cost of the free group on n generators equals n. We prove that each possible finite value of the cost is achieved by a finitely generated group. It is dynamical because it relies on measure preserving free actions on probability Borel spaces. In most cases, groups have fixed price, which implies that two freely acting groups which define the same orbit partition must have the same cost. It enables us to distinguish the orbit partitions of probability-preserving free actions of free groups of different ranks. At the end of the paper, we give a mercuriale, i.e. a list of costs of different groups. The cost is in fact an invariant of ergodic measure-preserving equivalence relations and is defined using graphings. A treeing is a measurable way to provide every equivalence class (=orbit) with the structure of a simplicial tree, this an example of graphing. Not every relation admits a treeing: we prove that every free action of a cost 1 non-amenable group is not treeable, but we prove that subrelations of treeable relations are treeable. We give examples of relations which cannot be produced by an action of any finitely generated group. The cost of a relation which can be decomposed as a direct product is shown to be 1. We define the notion for a relation to be a free product or an HNN-extension and compute the cost for the resulting relation from the costs of the building blocks. The cost is also an invariant of the pairs von Neumann algebra/Cartan subalgebra. Oblatum 27-I-1999 & 4-IV-1999 / Published online: 22 September 1999  相似文献

According to a classical result of Burnside, if G is a finite 2-group, then the Frattini subgroup Φ(G) of G cannot be a nonabelian group of order 8. Here we study the next possible case, where G is a finite 2-group and Φ(G) is nonabelian of order 16. We show that in that case Φ(G) ≅ M × C2, where MD8 or MQ8 and we shall classify all such groups G (Theorem A). Received: 16 February 2005; revised: 7 March 2005  相似文献

A subgroup H of a finite group G is called c-normal in G if there exists a normal subgroup N of G such that G = HN and $H \cap N \leq H_{G} = {\rm core}_{G}(H)$. In this paper, we investigate the class of groups of which every maximal subgroup of its Sylow p-subgroup is c-normal and the class of groups of which some minimal subgroups of its Sylow p-subgroup is c-normal for some prime number p. Some interesting results are obtained and consequently, many known results related to p-nilpotent groups and p-supersolvable groups are generalized.  相似文献

O. Kegel, in 1962, introduced the concept of p-subnormal subgroups of a finite group as the subgroups whose intersections with all Sylow p-subgroups of the group are Sylow p-subgroups of the subgroup. The set of p-subnormal subgroup of a finite group is not a lattice in general. In this paper, the class of all finite groups in which all p-subnormal subgroups from a lattice is determined. This is the class of all finite p-soluble groups whose p-length and p′-length, both, are less or equal to 1. The join-semilattice case and the meet-semilattice case are analyzed separately. A sharp bound is derived for the nilpotency class of a regular p-group in terms of its coexponent, and is used to show that the number of groups of order pn with a given fixed coexponent, is independent of n, for p and n sufficiently large. Explicit formulae are calculated in the case of coexponent 3.  相似文献

Abstract

We define three specific properties of abelian groups calling them strongly invariant extending property, intermediate fully invariant extending property and strongly intermediate fully invariant extending property. Some results concerning these concepts are proved as for the third one a complete necessary and sufficient condition is established. Our achievements somewhat extend results due to Birkenmeier et al. published in Comm. Algebra (2001).  相似文献

Abstract

This paper investigates torsion-free abelian groups A which are Q E-flat, i.e. for which Q A is flat as an Q E(A)-module. It is shown that a torsion-free A has this property iff Tor1 (M, A) is torsion for all right E(A)-modules M. Furthermore, a torsion-free group of rank 4 is constructed which is Q E-flat but not quasi-isomorphic to an E-flat group. This gives a negative response to a question of R. Pierce. The paper concludes with a discussion of the structure of torsion-free groups of finite rank which are Q E-flat.  相似文献

We give two very different proofs of the following result. Let {G γ:λɛΛ : λΛ} be a family of finitary skew linear groups of the same characteristic p ≧ 0. Then the free product of the G γ is isomorphic to some finitary skew linear group of characteristic p. This extends recent work of R. J. H. Minty on the skew linear case and of O. Puglisi on the finitary linear case.  相似文献

Let p be a prime, G a finite group with p | |G| and F a field of characteristic p. By we denote the F-subspace of the centre of the group ring FG spanned by the p-regular conjugacy class sums. J. Murray proved that is an algebra, if G is a symmetric or alternating group. This can be used for the computation of the block idempotents of FG. We proved that is an algebra if the Sylow-p-subgroups of G are abelian. Recently, Y. Fan and B. Külshammer generalized this result to blocks with abelian defect groups. Here, we show that is an algebra if the Sylow-2-subgroups of G are dihedral. Therefore and are algebras for all primes p and all prime powers q. Furthermore we prove that is an algebra for the simple Suzuki-groups Sz(q), where q is a certain power of 2 and p is an arbitrary prime dividing |Sz(q)|. Received: 18 May 2007  相似文献

Finite groups G=AB factorized by two subgroups A and B such that every subgroup of A permutes with every subgroup of B are studied in this paper. The behaviour of such products with respect to the class of finite groups in which Sylow-permutability is transitive is analyzed.  相似文献

In [5], Navarro defines the set , where Q is a p-subgroup of a p-solvable group G, and shows that if δ is the trivial character of Q, then Irr(G|Q, δ) provides a set of canonical lifts of IBrp(G), the irreducible Brauer characters with vertex Q. Previously, in [2], Isaacs defined a canonical set of lifts Bπ(G) of Iπ(G). Both of these results extend the Fong-Swan Theorem to π-separable groups, and both construct canonical sets of lifts of the generalized Brauer characters. It is known that in the case that 2∈π, or if |G| is odd, we have Bπ(G) = Irr(G|Q, 1Q). In this note we give a counterexample to show that this is not the case when . It is known that if and χ∈Bπ(G), then the constituents of χN are in Bπ (N). However, we use the same counterexample to show that if , and χ∈Irr(G|Q, 1Q) is such that θ ∈Irr(N) and [θ, χ N] ≠ 0, then it is not necessarily the case that θ ∈Irr(N) inherits this property.
