H-USY deactivates very rapidly during the alkylation of phenol with methanol at 200°C. The retention in the pores of compounds resulting from successive O- and C-alkylation of phenol (such as polymethylphenols and polymethylanisoles) is responsible for this deactivation. The retention of these compounds in the pores is not due to their steric blockage but to their low volatility and their strong adsorption.

High activities and selectivities of Ni on SiO2 catalysts producing CO in the reaction of CH4 with CO2, have been obtained at relatively low temperatures. These aspects are considerably different from the activities or selectivities of other catalysts, and have been explained by assuming that the Ni on SiO2 catalyst markedly suppresses carbon deposition.

Photoinduced adsorption (PIA) of oxygen molecules on AgBr films at 77 K has been experimentally observed and investigated. Lifetimes of PIA centers and desorption activation energies of O2 molecules have been determined. The process is suggested to compete with the ionic step of AgBr photolysis.

It has been found that carbohydrates naturally present in ppm quantities in paraformaldehyde are the cause of the autocatalysis in the formose reaction of paraformaldehyde solutions. Paraformaldehyde sublimed into Ca(OH)2 suspension was not transformed to sugars by formose reaction, only to methanol and formate by Cannizzaro reaction. A minute trace of glycolaldehyde — 3 ppm — was sufficient to initiate conventional autocatalysis. A formose reaction scheme in which formaldehyde reacts only with sugars by aldol condensation but not with itself is proposed.

Some condensed phosphates, especially cyclo-tetraphosphates have been synthetized as new binary compounds and their existence has been proved. The synthesis of cyclo-CdMgP4O12 is shown as an example. The products crystallize in the monoclinic system (C2c group) and are stable to 900°C. The synthesis is based on a thermal procedure making use of the reversible transformation of cyclo-tetraphosphates to higher linear phosphates (the 1.method) and on a calcination of the starting binary dihydrogenphosphate at quasi-isothermal-isobaric conditions (the 2.method).
Zusammenfassung Einige kondensierte Phosphate, im besonderen Zyklotetraphosphate wurden als neue binäre Verbindungen hergestellt. Als Beispiel wird Zyklo-Cd MgP4 O12 angeführt. Das Produkt kristallisiert monoklin /Gruppe C2/c/ und ist bis 900°C stabil. Die Synthese basiert auf einem thermischen Verfahren unter Anwendung des reversiblen Überganges von Zyklotetraphosphaten zu höhereren linearen Phosphaten /Verfahren 1/ und auf dem Kalzinieren der binären Ausgangsverbindung Dihydrogenphos phat bei quasi-isothermen-isobaren Bedingungen /Verfahren 2/.

It has been found by the ESR technique that the adsorption of propylene on zinc oxide leads to the formation of a -allyl radical. It is suggested that the radical species of the surface allyl compound on this catalyst is responsible for its high selectivity in the dehydroaromatization of propylene to benzene.

Zusammenfassung Die Kinetik der Ausbrennung organischer Stoffe im Ziegelscherben wird verfolgt und erläutert. Die Möglichkeiten der Beeinflussung des energetischen Aufwandes unter Nutzung moderner analytischer Methoden sind festzustellen. Bei einem diffusen Ausbrennen ist die Dichte und Durchlässigkeit des Scherbens massgebend. Praktische Anwendungsmöglichkeiten verschiedener auszubrennender Stoffe in unterschiedlichen Rohstoffen der Ziegelindustrie.
The kinetics of burn-out of organic materials in bricks has been followed and explained. It is to establish that using new analytical methods the energy consumption can be influenced. The diffuse burn-out is determined by the density and permeability of bricks. There is a possibility for practical use of the results in the brick-industry with the different compounds to be burnt out from various raw materials.

Toluene transformation was investigated on a fluorided alumina and a protonic mordenite under hydrogen (0.8, 12 bar) and under nitrogen (12 bar). Hydrogen pressure considerably improves the catalytic stability of H-mordenite by inhibiting the formation of coke. Moreover, hydrogen eliminates part of the coke deposited by reaction under nitrogen, and regenerates the activity of the mordenite. On the contrary, hydrogen has no effect in the case of fluorided alumina. The particular behavior of the mordenite is attributed to its very strong acidity.

The uptake of sulfur reduces the overall activity of PtMo/Al2O3 and enhances that of CoMo/Al2O3 in conversion of cyclohexanol. Significant changes in selectivity indicate the existence of different active sites of the initial catalyst for hydro-dehydrogenation and dehydration. The differences in catalytic activity expressed in terms of overall TOF decrease with increasing sulfur treatment like for Ru and Ir promoted catalysts.

Chromium catalysts were prepared on monolith supports, some of them with radioactive Cr-51 in the surface. The dehydrogenation-hydrogenation reaction of cyclohexene was used to compare the catalytic activities of the radioactive and inactive catalysts. Differences were observed in the distribution of the main products at low temperatures and of the byproducts also at high temperatures.

The low temperature oxidation of CO over MnO2 containing samples for batteries has been investigated. It is found that the samples contain compositional and hydrate water and Mn4+, Mn3+, Mn2+ ions. The high efficiency is due to Mn4+ content.

The combinations and disproportionations of the CH3 and 2-propyl (iP) radicals with the 1,1,2-trimethylallyl (TMA) radical have been studied in the gas phase in the temperature interval of 389–451 K and 490–540 K, respectively. For the ratios of the terminal (t) and non-terminal (n) combinations of the CH3 and iP radicals with the TMA radical, values of 1.9±0.1 and 2.84±±0.10 were obtained, respectively. The ratios of the tt and tn and nn to tn combinations of the TMA radical were 1.59 and 0.46, respectively. The disproportionation-combination rations were (CH3 , TMA)=0.022±±0.012 and (iP, TMA)=0.026±0.011.

The kinetics of the reaction of valine with peracetic acid has been studied in aqueous solutions (pH 4.91) at 45°C. At the initial stages, oxidative deamination of valine is the predominant process. The reaction is bimolecular, characterized by rate constants of 1.75–2.38 1/mol sec at 45°C. The mechanism of the oxidative deamination of valine is discussed.

A thermoanalytical study of estradiol monovalerate (a) and estriol (b) revealed the thermal stability, the decomposition kinetics, and the temperatures and intervals of fusion. The degree of purity was calculated only for estradiol monovalerate: 99.72 ± 0.11 mol %. The fusion enthalpy (29.45±0.47 kJ mol–1) and entropy for this compound were evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry. It was also possible to detect the polymorphism and the pseudopolymorphism of (a) and (b) after recrystallization from several solvents.
Zusammenfassung Die thermische Stabilität, die Zersetzungskinetik sowie die Schmeiztemperaturen und -intervalle von Estradiol-Monovalerianat (a) und Estriol (b) wurden thermoanalytisch ermittelt. Nur der Reinheitsgrad von (a) wurde berechnet (99,72 ± 0,11 mol %). Die Schmelzenthalpie (29,45±0,47 kJ · mol–1) und Schmelzentropie dieser Verbindung wurden mittels DSC bestimmt. Nach Rekristallisation in verschiedenen Lösungsmitteln konnten Polymorphie und Pseudopolymorphie für (a) und (b) nachgewiesen werden.

Kinetic studies of pyrocatechol oxidation by oxygen in weakly acidic aqueous solutions containing pyrocatechol, Cu(II) ions and histidine, indicate that the reaction involves mixed copper-pyrocatechol histidine complexes. The proposed mechanism of the process agrees with the kinetic relationships obtained.

Exchange kinetics of some transition metal ions on tin(IV) arsenosilicate has been studied at various temperatures under particle diffusion controlled conditions.
