We report on the first measurement of the differential cross section of -meson photoproduction for the d(γ,pK+K)n exclusive reaction channel. The experiment was performed using a tagged-photon beam and the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at Jefferson Lab. A combined analysis using data from the d(γ,pK+K)n channel and those from a previous publication on coherent production on the deuteron has been carried out to extract the N total cross section, σN. The extracted N total cross section favors a value above 20 mb. This value is larger than the value extracted using vector-meson dominance models for photoproduction on the proton.  相似文献

PHENIX has measured the electron–positron pair mass spectrum from 0 to 8 GeV/c2 in p+p collisions at . The contributions from light meson decays to e+e pairs have been determined based on measurements of hadron production cross sections by PHENIX. Within the systematic uncertainty of 20% they account for all e+e pairs in the mass region below 1 GeV/c2. The e+e pair yield remaining after subtracting these contributions is dominated by semileptonic decays of charmed hadrons correlated through flavor conservation. Using the spectral shape predicted by PYTHIA, we estimate the charm production cross section to be 544±39(stat)±142(syst)±200(model) μb, which is consistent with QCD calculations and measurements of single leptons by PHENIX.  相似文献

The process e+e→W+Wγ is analysed using the data collected with the L3 detector at LEP at a centre-of-mass energy of 188.6 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 176.8 pb−1. Based on a sample of 42 selected W+W candidates containing an isolated hard photon, the W+Wγ cross section, defined within phase-space cuts, is measured to be: σWWγ=290±80±16 fb, consistent with the Standard Model expectation. Including the process , limits are derived on anomalous contributions to the Standard Model quartic vertices W+Wγγ and W+WZγ at 95% CL: −0.043 GeV−2<a02<0.043 GeV−2, −0.08 GeV−2<ac2<0.13 GeV−2, −0.41 GeV−2<an2<0.37 GeV−2.  相似文献

A partial-wave analysis of the reaction πpηηπp at 18 GeV/c has been performed on a data sample of approximately 4000 events obtained by Brookhaven experiment E852. The JPC=0−+π(1800) state is observed in the a0(980)η and f0(1500)π decay modes. It has a mass of 1876±18±16 MeV/c2 and a width of 221±26±38 MeV/c2. The JPC=2−+π2(1880) meson is observed decaying through a2(1320)η. It has a mass of 1929±24±18 MeV/c2 and a width of 323±87±43 MeV/c2. Both states are potential candidates for non-exotic hybrid mesons.  相似文献

Flavor symmetry and symmetry breaking, K0– mixing and possible effects of new physics on CP violation in weak decay modes D±KS,L+X±, (KS,L0)K*+X± (for X=π,ρ,a1) and D±sKS,L+X±s, (KS,L0)K*+X±s (for Xs=K,K*) are analyzed. Relations between D± and D±s decay branching ratios are obtained from the ds subgroup of SU(3) and dominant symmetry-breaking mechanisms are investigated. A CP asymmetry of magnitude 3.3×10−3 is shown to result in the standard model from K0– mixing in the final-state. New physics affecting the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed channels might either cancel this asymmetry or enhance it up to the percent level. A comparison between the CP asymmetries in D±(s)KSX±(s) and D±(s)KLX±(s) can pin down effects of new physics.  相似文献

We present the first measurement of photoproduction of J/ψ and of two-photon production of high-mass e+e pairs in electromagnetic (or ultra-peripheral) nucleus–nucleus interactions, using Au + Au data at . The events are tagged with forward neutrons emitted following Coulomb excitation of one or both Au nuclei. The event sample consists of 28 events with me+e>2 GeV/c2 with zero like-sign background. The measured cross sections at midrapidity of and for me+e[2.0,2.8] GeV/c2 have been compared and found to be consistent with models for photoproduction of J/ψ and QED based calculations of two-photon production of e+e pairs.  相似文献

Integration of the cross section of the process+(Ze)(Ze)+1+e+e+ over the angles of emission of the electron and positron was carried out, and the angular, energy, and spin dependences of the cross section were obtained. The cross section for photoproduction of a lepton-antilepton pair and a quantum on nuclei in the case where the emitted photon moves in the same direction as the incident quantum can exceed the Bethe-Heitler cross section for ordinary photoproduction of an ee+ pair. The neutrino experiment KARMEN is situated at the beam stop neutrino source ISIS which provides νμ's, νe's and from the π+−μ+-decay at rest. The oscillation channels νμ → νe and are investigated with a 56 t liquid scintillation calorimeter. No evidence for oscillations could be found with KARMEN, resulting in 90% CL exclusion limits of sin2(2Θ) < 8.5 · 10−3 ( ) and sin2(2Θ) < 4.0 · 10−2μ → νe) for Δm2 > 100 eV2. In 1996, the experiment has been upgraded by an additional veto counting system with a total coverage of 300 m2. The new system allows the identification of cosmic muons in the vicinity of the detector. Vetoing these muons suppresses energetic neutrons from deep inelastic scattering of muons as well as from μ-capture by a factor of 40. Up to 1996, these neutrons represented the main background for oscillation search. The experimental sensitivity for will be significantly enhanced towards sin2(2Θ) 1.0 · 10−3 after a further measuring period of 2–3 years.  相似文献

The semi-inclusive difference asymmetry Ah+h for hadrons of opposite charge has been measured by the COMPASS experiment at CERN. The data were collected in the years 2002–2004 using a 160 GeV polarised muon beam scattered off a large polarised 6LiD target in the kinematic range 0.006<x<0.7 and 1<Q2<100 (GeV/c)2. In leading order QCD (LO) the deuteron asymmetry Ah+h measures the valence quark polarisation and provides an evaluation of the first moment of Δuvdv which is found to be equal to 0.40±0.07(stat.)±0.06(syst.) over the measured range of x at Q2=10 (GeV/c)2. When combined with the first moment of previously measured on the same data, this result favours a non-symmetric polarisation of light quarks at a confidence level of two standard deviations, in contrast to the often assumed symmetric scenario .  相似文献

Usually, B0π+π decays are expressed in terms of weak amplitudes explicitly dependent on the CKM weak phase α or γ. In this Letter, we show that the weak amplitudes can be rewritten such that a manifest dependence on β emerges instead. Based on this, we constrain new-physics contributions to the CP-violating phase d in mixing. Further, we apply reparametrization invariance and use QCD factorization predictions to investigate the bounds on an additional new-physics amplitude in B0π+π.  相似文献

Single and multi-photon events with missing energy are analysed using data collected with the L3 detector at LEP at a centre-of-mass energy of 189 GeV, for a total of 176 pb of integrated luminosity. The cross section of the process e+e → γ(γ) is measured and the number of light neutrino flavours is determined to be Nν=3.011±0.077 including lower energy data. Upper limits on cross sections of supersymmetric processes are set and interpretations in supersymmetric models provide improved limits on the masses of the lightest neutralino and the gravitino. Graviton-photon production in low scale gravity models with extra dimensions is searched for and limits on the energy scale of the model are set exceeding 1 TeV for two extra dimensions.  相似文献

Diatomic silicon sulfide molecules have been produced in the chemiluminescent reaction of silicon atoms with OCS. Spectra of the resulting flame consist mainly of two new band systems in the region 350–400 and 385–600 nm. These systems have been assigned as b 3Πr-X 1Σ+ and a 3Σ+-X 1Σ+ on the basis of band structure, spin-orbit splitting, molecular constants, and comparison with chemiluminescent spectra of isovalent molecules. Vibrational assignments were made with the help of the isotope effect and vibrational constants were obtained. Rotational structure was observed in some a-X bands and a partial analysis yielded an approximate rotational constant, B 0.247 ± 0.007 cm−1, for the a 3Σ+ state. Franck-Condon factors, calculated for the a-X system, are shown to fit the general trend of the intensity distribution. Irregularities in spin-orbit splitting and in relative intensities of the spin-orbit components of the b 3Π-X 1Σ+ system were observed and an attempt is made to explain them in terms of interactions with neighboring states. Addition of active nitrogen to the flame was shown to greatly increase the intensity of the b-X system relative to the a-X system. Constants (in cm−1) obtained for the new state are: a3σ+: Te=24 582.1 ± 1.3, ωe=503.8±1.0, ωexe=1.86±0.21b3σ+: Te=27 314.5 ± 2.2, ωe=619.4±2.0, ωexe=5.75±0.52b3σ+: Te=27 407.9 ± 1.1, ωe=524.3±1.2, ωexe=3.97±0.28  相似文献

In a data sample of four million hadronic Z decays collected with the ALEPH detector at LEP, four Λb baryon candidates are exclusively reconstructed in the Λb → Λc+π channel, with the Λc+ decaying into pKπ+, , or Λπ+π+π. The probability of the observed signal to be due to a background fluctuation is estimated to be 4.2 × 10−4. The mass of the Λb is measured to be 5614±21 (stat.) ± 4 (syst.) MeV/c2.  相似文献

The pure rotational spectrum of CH2F2 was recorded in the 20–100 cm−1 spectral range and analyzed to obtain rotation and centrifugal distortion constants. Analysis of the data yielded rotation constants: A = 1.6392173 ± 0.0000015, B = 0.3537342 ± 0.00000033, C = 0.3085387 ± 0.00000027, τaaaa = −(7.64 ± 0.46) × 10−5, τbbbb = −(2.076 ± 0.016) × 10−6, τcccc = −(9.29 ± 0.12) × 10−7, T1 = (4.89 ± 0.20) × 10−6, and T2 = −(1.281 ± 0.016) × 10−6cm−1.  相似文献

Relativistic quantum calculations which include spin-orbit interactions and correlations were carried out for the low-lying states of ICl. Spectroscopic properties (R3, ωe, Te) were calculated for these states. Based on the energies and wave functions both the absorption and emission spectra of ICl in the region below 45000 cm−1 were interpreted. These calculations confirm the predissociation of the B0+ state and the existence of a second minimum (B′0+) in the 0+(II) state. Properties of the 0(I)(3Π0) state which is yet to be observed were also predicted. The calculated properties for the 2(I)(3Π2) state are in very good agreement with the properties obtained by the very recent characterization of the A′ state by optical three-photon resonance. The continuous and diffuse absorption spectra of ICl in the region below 45000 cm−1 were interpreted and assigned to the appropriate electronic transitions.  相似文献

Given a 1-parameter family of 1-forms γ(t) = γ0+tγ1+ ···+tnψn, consider the condition dγ(t)γ(t) = 0 (of integrability for the annihilated by γ(t) distribution w(t)). We prove that in order that this condition is satisfied for any t it is sufficient that it is satisfied for N = n + 3 different values of t (the corresponding implication for N = 2n + 1 is obvious). In fact we give a stronger result dealing with distributions of higher codimension. This result is related to the so-called Veronese webs and can be applied in the theory of bihamiltonian structures.  相似文献

A search for νμ → νe oscillations has been conducted at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility (LAMPF) using νμ from π+ decay in flight. An excess in the number of beam-related events from the νe Ce X inclusive reaction is observed. The excess is too large to be explained by normal νe contamination in the beam at a confidence level greater than 99%. If interpreted as an oscillation signal, the observed oscillation probability of (2.6 ± 1.3 ± 0.5) × 10−3 is consistent with the previously reported oscillation evidence from LSND.  相似文献

A large CP-violating phase uncovered recently by CDF and DØ Collaborations in the time-dependent CP asymmetry (CPA) of the BsJ/Ψ decay clearly indicates that a non-Cabibbo–Kobayashi–Maskawa (CKM) phase has to be brought into the bs transition. We find that the model with SU(2)L singlet exotic quarks cannot only provide the new phase induced from the Z-mediated flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) at tree level, but also strongly relate the Bs mixing, BqVq+ (Vd[s]=K*[]) and Bsμ+μ together. In particular, we show that the new CP phase can be unambiguously exposed by the large statistical significances of T violating observables in BqVq+, while the branching ratio of Bsμ+μ can be enhanced to be O(10−8).  相似文献

The cross section and angular distribution for the reaction 13C(π+, γ)13N(g.s.) have been measured from 37 to 85° in the laboratory, at a pion energy of 115.5 MeV. The observed cross section ranges from 320 to 660 nb/sr. These results do not show the large magnitude and wide-angle peaking expected if pre-critical effects due to nascent pion condensation were present. In addition, the observed cross section is less than one-half of the predictions of available theoretical calculations which do not include the pre-critical effect. Data on the reaction 1H(π, γ)n at Tπ = 116.6 MeV were also obtained for calibration purposes. These data agree with expectations based on knowledge of the inverse reaction and previous measurements.  相似文献
