2 (2 mm thick) and GaSe (1 mm thick) crystals are applied as nonlinear media. GaSe has a larger tuning range and is more efficient
in the whole spectral range than AgGaS2. The average IR power reaches up to 2.0 mW at 8.5 μm when the GaSe crystal is used, and up to 1.3 mW at the same wavelength
when AgGaS2 is applied for the frequency conversion.

We have developed a novel interferometric autocorrelator composed of only reflective elements, which functions as a beam splitter
and an optical delay line. Analytical expressions are derived to give second-order autocorrelation functions and deconvolution
factors for various conditions. The measurement of femtosecond laser pulses by interferometric autocorrelation is demonstrated
in the visible region. The results are compared with those by calculation.

We demonstrate an optical limiter for ultra-short (∼100-fs) laser pulses. The device has a dynamic range (= damage energy/onset-of-limiting
energy) of more than 10000 and an onset-of-limiting energy of only ∼10 nJ. The output-pulse energy is kept below 1.3 μJ. The
limiting mechanism is based on two-photon absorption and refractive nonlinearities in a 20-mm piece of ZnSe. We discuss the
importance of the different nonlinearities, damage issues, and guidelines for the construction of the device.

The temporal behavior of a nanosecond pulsed singly resonant periodically poled lithium niobate optical parametric oscillator
has been studied both theoretically and experimentally. Taking into account the cylindrical symmetry of the system, a numerical
model based on the Hankel transform has been developed. Good agreement is obtained between experiment and simulation. Moreover,
the computation time is reduced roughly by a factor of 60 compared to the usual simulation software.

. We report on the experimental and theoretical study of spectrum transformation and frequency blue-shift of femtosecond laser
pulses with intensities up to 2×1016 W/cm2, propagating in glass capillary tubes under gas ionization. Monomode optical guiding with 45% transmission efficiency is
demonstrated in a 100-μm-diameter, 20-cm length capillary. A broadening of the initial spectrum as much as several initial
spectrum widths is achieved. Besides the broadening, the mean frequency of the output radiation in the spectrum experiences
a blue-shift of up to several initial spectrum widths, caused by the non-stationary, non-linear process of gas ionization.
Our numerical simulations, in the form of a simple one-dimensional model for the propagation of intense laser pulses in gas-filled
capillaries, are in good qualitative agreement with the experimental results. These simulations show the possibility of significant
compression of an output pulse in a simple compression scheme (e.g. a piece of silica glass with normal dispersion), which
is very important for obtaining laser pulses with few optical cycles at the millijoule energy level.

A novel application of a free-standing transmission grating as a beam splitter in a Michelson-type interferometer is described.
The arrangement can operate in the XUV and soft X-ray spectral region and, therefore, it is well suited for the characterization
of attosecond pulses. Using ray-tracing codes, we have analyzed three different setups in which spherical mirrors are employed
in conjunction with the transmission grating and have investigated in detail their dispersive characteristics. It is shown
that such an arrangement can be made to exhibit group-delay dispersion of ∼1 as2 while it provides two co-propagating and converging beams.

We present a double-pass non-collinear optical parametric amplifier (NOPA) that delivers 4-fs visible–near-infrared pulses.
The paper discusses geometrical and temporal properties of the NOPA configuration, which allow us to broaden the gain band
of simultaneous parametric amplification in excess of 250 THz. The key elements of the bandwidth enhancement include (i) the
use of a broadband second-harmonic pump, (ii) optimization of the incidence angle of all monochromatic spectral components
of the pump in order to produce a favorable offset of the corresponding phase-matching curves, and (iii) selection of the
chirp rate and time delay between the stretched pump and seed pulses. We next devise a two-stage compressor that incorporates
a flexible mirror for adaptive pulse shaping and develop a simple and trustworthy feedback loop based on a one-dimensional
spectral measurement. Our rapid numerical algorithm for adaptive control of the flexible membrane is found superior to more
complex search routines that are less resistant to the fluctuations of the laser intensity. The automated optimization procedure
results in the generation of two-cycle pulses with a carrier wavelength at ∼600 nm. The absence of deep modulation on the
parametrically amplified spectrum in combination with the adaptive phase correction lead to a high quality of the temporal
profile and allow concentrating 90% of the pulse energy within only a 7.5-fs time window.

In a fiber amplifier, spectral compression due to self-phase modulation is demonstrated for ultrashort pulses. We report the
generation of near-transform-limited picosecond pulses with peak powers of several kW at a repetition rate of 74 MHz and diffraction-limited
beam quality in a Yb-doped fiber amplifier when seeding with a negative chirped pulse.

We report on a femtosecond optical parametric oscillator (OPO) with a repetition rate of 1 GHz, which is 12 times that of
the pump laser used. We also introduce a novel method for operating an OPO with a high harmonic repetition rate which is not
determined by the cavity length of the OPO, but rather the cavity length difference between the OPO and its pump laser. Operation
of an OPO at 4-times the harmonic repetition rate has been carried out to show the feasibility of this method. The new approach
paves the way for constructing a femtosecond OPO working at repetition rates of 10 GHz, or higher, when the pump laser used
has a relatively low repetition rate.

The spectral width of a 5-kHz Ti:sapphire laser system was broadened by spectral control in a regenerative amplifier consisting of broadband chirped mirrors. The dispersion over the wide spectral range was compensated by a deformable mirror along with a genetic algorithm, resulting in a pulse width of 15 fs. The pulse width is the shortest, to our knowledge, in chirped pulse amplification systems with a regenerative amplifier. The phase distortion of broadband frequency doubling in addition to the Ti:sapphire laser was compensated by using the self-diffraction intensity in sapphire as the feedback signal into the genetic algorithm, resulting in a pulse width of 7.5 fs. The average power of the second harmonic was 1 W with a fundamental input of 7 W. 相似文献

Visible femtosecond (fs) laser pulses have been obtained in a dye solution with a very simple traveling wave collinear configuration.
A femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser (790 nm) pumps the dye solution by two-photon absorption and simultaneously generates supercontinuum,
which seeds a light-amplification mechanism. Cross-correlation frequency-resolved optical gating measurements reveal a chirped
structure in the dye pulse. The shortest pulse duration achieved is 170 fs and the overall energy efficiency of the process
is typically 25%.

Photonic-molecule modes of a cobweb-microstructure fiber allow efficient nonlinear optical spectral broadening of nanojoule
femtosecond light pulses. Spectral widths of approximately 200 nm are achieved at the output of a 6-cm sample of such a fiber
for 40-fs Ti:sapphire laser pulses with an energy of a few nanojoules coupled into photonic-molecule modes. Higher values
of the group index and a lower group-velocity dispersion, attainable with higher-order photonic-molecule modes, allow the
efficiency of spectral broadening of femtosecond laser pulses to be increased relative to the efficiency of spectral broadening
in the fundamental photonic-molecule mode.

We report the first observation of the attachment of two single plasma filaments created collinearly in the atmosphere by
IR femtosecond laser pulses. The linked filamentary structure is electrically conductive and emits sub-THz radiation over
its entire length. Concatenation is achieved only for a specific time ordering between the two initial laser pulses. The pulse
producing the filament closer to the laser source must be retarded with respect to the other pulse. This special time ordering
is attributed to the acceleration of light in a self-guided pulse.

Femtosecond, time-resolved two photon photoemission has been used to map the dynamics of photo-excited electrons at a structured
metal/semiconductor surface. A photoemission microscope was employed as a spatially resolving electron detector. This novel
setup has the potential to visualize variations of hot electron lifetimes in the femtosecond regime on heterogeneous sample
surfaces and nanostructures.
