A series of well‐defined, fluorinated diblock copolymers, poly[2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate]‐b‐poly(2,2,2‐trifluoroethyl methacrylate) (PDMA‐b‐PTFMA), poly[2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate]‐b‐poly(2,2,3,4,4,4‐hexafluorobutyl methacrylate) (PDMA‐b‐PHFMA), and poly[2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate]‐b‐poly(2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5‐octafluoropentyl methacrylate) (PDMA‐b‐POFMA), have been synthesized successfully via oxyanion‐initiated polymerization. Potassium benzyl alcoholate (BzO?K+) was used to initiate DMA monomer to yield the first block PDMA. If not quenched, the first living chain could be subsequently used to initiate a feed F‐monomer (such as TFMA, HFMA, or OFMA) to produce diblock copolymers containing different poly(fluoroalkyl methacrylate) moieties. The composition and chemical structure of these fluorinated copolymers were confirmed by 1H NMR, 19F NMR spectroscopy, and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) techniques. The solution behaviors of these copolymers containing (tri‐, hexa‐, or octa‐ F‐atom)FMA were investigated by the measurements of surface tension, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and UV spectrophotometer. The results indicate that these fluorinated copolymers possess relatively high surface activity, especially at neutral media. Moreover, the DLS and UV measurements showed that these fluorinated diblock copolymers possess distinct pH/temperature‐responsive properties, depending not only on the PDMA segment but also on the fluoroalkyl structure of the FMA units. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of gradient and block copolymers, based on 2‐(2‐methoxyethoxy)ethyl methacrylate (MEO2MA) and tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA), were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) in a first step. The MEO2MA monomer leads to the production of thermosensitive polymers, exhibiting lower critical solution temperature (LCST) at around room temperature, which could be adjusted by changing the proportion of tBA in the copolymer. In a second step, the tert‐butyl groups of tBA were hydrolyzed with trifluoroacetic acid to form the corresponding block and gradient copolymers of MEO2MA and acrylic acid (AA), which exhibited both temperature and pH‐responsive behavior. These copolymers showed LCST values strongly dependent on the pH. At acid pH, a slightly decrease of LCST with an increase of AA in the copolymer was observed. However, at neutral or basic conditions, ionization of acid groups increases the hydrophilic balance considerably raising the LCST values, which even become not observable over the temperature range under study. In the last step, these carboxylic functionalized copolymers were covalently bound to biocompatible and biodegradable films of poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate‐co‐3‐hydroxyhexanoate) [P(HB‐co‐HHx)] obtained by casting and, previously treated with ethylenediamine (ED) to render their surfaces with amino groups. Thereby, thermosensitive surfaces of modified P(HB‐co‐HHx) could be obtained. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

We report the monomer reactivity ratios for copolymers of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and a reactive monomer, 2‐vinyl‐4,4′‐dimethylazlactone (VDMA), using the Fineman–Ross, inverted Fineman–Ross, Kelen–Tudos, extended Kelen–Tudos, and Tidwell–Mortimer methods at low and high polymer conversions. Copolymers were obtained by radical polymerization initiated by 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile in methyl ethyl ketone solutions and were analyzed by NMR, gas chromatography (GC), and gel permeation chromatography. 1H NMR analysis was used to determine the molar fractions of MMA and VDMA in the copolymers at both low and high conversions. GC analysis determined the molar fractions of the monomers at conversions of less than 27% and greater than 65% for the low‐ and high‐conversion copolymers, respectively. The reactivity ratios indicated a tendency toward random copolymerization, with a higher rate of consumption of VDMA at high conversions. For both low‐ and high‐conversion copolymers, the molecular weights increased with increasing molar fractions of VDMA, and this was consistent with the faster consumption of VDMA (compared with that of MMA). © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The atom transfer radical copolymerization of styrene with 2‐[(perfluorononenyl)oxy] ethyl methacrylate was performed in benzotrifluoride at 100 °C in the presence of 1‐bromoethyl benzene (1‐BrEB), cuprous bromide (CuBr), and α,α′‐bipyridine (bpy; [1‐BrEB]0/[CuBr]0/[bpy]0 = 1/1/3). The experimental results demonstrate that this polymerization proceeded in a living fashion, producing fluorinated random copolymers with narrow polydispersities, controlled molecular weights, and desired unit ratios. The compositions of the copolymers were calculated from 1H NMR spectra. The monomer reactivity ratios were obtained with the Skeist integral method. The copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography, Fourier transform infrared, and differential scanning calorimetry. The solid surface characteristics of the copolymers were evaluated with contact‐angle measurements. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 39: 2670–2676, 2001  相似文献

This article reports a novel crosslinking functionality of the 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate unit (HEMA) in the presence of an acid. The polymeric compositions, consisting of a polymer containing the HEMA unit and a photoacid generator, were insolubilized in an aqueous base developer on exposure to UV light and a successive baking process to provide a negative‐working photoresist. A series of poly(benzyl methacrylate‐co‐methacrylic acid‐co‐2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) terpolymers with various contents of HEMA were prepared to elucidate the photopolymeric characteristics. The polymer behavior in films was examined by a comparison of the photosensitivity and IR spectroscopic method. Experiments with a model compound were also carried out. On the basis of the results, we found that the resist was insolubilized by crosslinking through the transesterification of HEMA segments due to acid generated from the photoacid generator and subsequent heating. The advantage of using the 2‐hydroxyethyl group is that in the terpolymer, the HEMA unit is transparent at a short‐wavelength region and is a promising crosslinking unit for ArF lithographic photoresists. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the synthesis and characterization of a series of novel diblock copolymers, poly(cholesteryl methacrylate‐b‐2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PCMA‐b‐PHEMA). Monomers, cholesteryl methacrylate (CMA) and 2‐(trimethylsiloxy)ethyl methacrylate (HEMA‐TMS), were prepared from methyacryloyl chloride and 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate, respectively. Homopolymers of CMA, PCMA, with well‐defined molecular weights and polydispersity indices (PDI), were prepared by reversible addition fragmentation and chain transfer (RAFT) method. Precursor diblock copolymers, PCMA‐b‐P(HEMA‐TMS), were synthesized using PCMA as macromolecular chain transfer agent and monomer, HEMA‐TMS. Product diblock copolymers, PCMA‐b‐PHEMA, were prepared by deprotecting trimethylsilyl units in the precursor diblock copolymers using acid catalysts. Detailed molecular characterization of the precursor diblock copolymers, PCMA‐b‐P(HEMA‐TMS), and the product diblock copolymers, PCMA‐b‐PHEMA, confirmed the composition and structure of these polymers. This versatile synthetic strategy can be used to prepare new amphiphilic block copolymers with cholesterol in one block and hydrogen‐bonding moieties in the second block. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Free‐radical copolymerization of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) with N‐vinylpyrrolidone (VPD) was carried out at 50 °C using 3.0 mol · L?1 of N,N′‐dimethylformamide solution and 9.0 · 10?3 mol · L?1 of 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile as an initiator. The modification reaction of GMA‐VPD copolymers with a model bioactive carboxylic acid, 6‐methoxy‐α‐methyl‐2‐naphthaleneacetic acid (naproxen), was studied in the homogeneous phase using basic catalysts. The influence of the type of catalyst and the GMA content was evaluated. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 40: 1192–1199, 2002  相似文献

A series of amphiphilic cationic random copolymers, namely poly[2‐(methacryloyloxy)ethyl trimethylammonium chloride‐co‐stearyl methacrylate] or poly(MADQUAT‐co‐SMA), have been synthesized via conventional free‐radical copolymerization using 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as initiator and n‐dodecanethiol as chain transfer agent. The resultant products were then characterized by FT‐IR, 1H NMR, MALDI‐TOF MS measurements. From the number‐average molecular weights of the copolymers, we can conclude that these copolymers have oligomeric structure with a limited number of hydrophilic and hydrophobic moieties in a short polymer chain. The reactivity ratios (rMADQUAT = 0.83, rSMA = 0.25) between the hydrophilic MADQUAT monomer and the hydrophobic SMA monomer were calculated by the Finemann and Ross method, which was based on the results of 1H NMR analysis. The surface activity of the random copolymers was studied by the combination of surface tension and contact angle measurement, and the results indicated that these copolymers possess relatively high surface activity. The critical aggregation concentrations (cac) of the copolymers in aqueous solution were determined by fluorescence probe method as well as surface tension measurement. The different nanoparticles of poly(MADQUAT‐co‐SMA) copolymers formed in pure water or ethanol‐water mixture were proved by the particle size and size distribution in the measurement of dynamic light scattering (DLS). Furthermore, using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), we could observe various self‐assembly morphologies of these random copolymer. All these results show that the amphiphilic cationic random copolymers have a good self‐assembly behavior, even if they are ill‐defined copolymers. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A hydrophilic ruthenium complex with ionic phosphine ligands { 1 : RuCl2[P(3‐C6H4SO3Na)(C6H5)2]2} induced controlled radical polymerization of 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) in methanol under homogeneous conditions; the initiator was a chloride (R‐Cl) such as CHCl2COPh. The number‐average molecular weights of poly(HEMA) increased in direct proportion to monomer conversion, and the molecular weight distributions were relatively narrow (Mw/Mn = 1.4–1.7). A similar living radical polymerization was possible with (MMA)2‐Cl [(CH3)2C(CO2CH3)CH2C(CH3)(CO2CH3)Cl] as an initiator coupled with amine additives such as n‐Bu3N. In a similar homogeneous system in methanol, methyl methacrylate (MMA) could also be polymerized in living fashion with the R‐Cl/ 1 initiating system. Especially for such hydrophobic polymers, the water‐soluble ruthenium catalyst was readily removed from the polymers by simple washing with an aqueous dilute acid. This system can be applied to the direct synthesis of amphiphilic random and block copolymers of HEMA and MMA. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 4‐Chloro‐3‐methyl phenyl methacrylate (CMPM) and 8‐quinolinyl methacrylate (8‐QMA) were synthesized through the reaction of 4‐chloro‐3‐methyl phenol and 8‐hydroxy quinoline, respectively, with methacryloyl chloride. The homopolymers and copolymers were prepared by free‐radical polymerization with azobisisobutyronitrile as the initiator at 70 °C. Copolymers of CMPM and 8‐QMA of different compositions were prepared. The monomers were characterized with IR spectroscopy and 1H NMR techniques. The copolymers were characterized with IR spectroscopy. UV spectroscopy was used to obtain the compositions of the copolymers. The monomer reactivity ratios were calculated with the Fineman–Ross method. The molecular weights and polydispersity values of the copolymers were determined with gel permeation chromatography. The thermal stability of the polymers was evaluated with thermogravimetric analysis under a nitrogen atmosphere. The homopolymers and copolymers were tested for their antimicrobial activity againstbacteria, fungi, and yeast. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The radical copolymerization of styrene and n‐butyl methacrylate mediated by 1‐phenyl‐1‐(2′,2′,6′,6′‐tetramethyl‐1′‐piperidinyl‐oxy)ethane in bulk at 125 °C has been analyzed over a wide range of conversions and monomer feed compositions. Monomer reactivity ratios have been determined, and the Mayo–Lewis terminal model provides excellent predictions for the variations of the intermolecular structure over the entire conversion range. The kinetic analysis of this copolymerization system indicates an apparent propagation rate coefficient independent of the monomer feed composition as well as a limiting conversion that decreases as the styrene monomer feed decreases. This fact is attributed to side reactions leading to unsaturated end groups and the accumulation of nonactive adducts of n‐butyl methacrylate. The number‐average molecular weights linearly increase with conversion, and the copolymers present narrow molecular weight distributions. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Various star‐shaped copolymers of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and n‐butyl methacrylate (nBMA) were synthesized in one pot with RuCl2(PPh3)3‐catalyzed living radical polymerization and subsequent polymer linking reactions with divinyl compounds. Sequential living radical polymerization of nBMA and MMA in that order and vice versa, followed by linking reactions of the living block copolymers with appropriate divinyl compounds, afforded star block copolymers consisting of AB‐ or BA‐type block copolymer arms with controlled lengths and comonomer compositions in high yields (≥90%). The lengths and compositions of each unit varied with the amount of each monomer feed. Star copolymers with random copolymer arms were prepared by the living radical random copolymerization of MMA and nBMA followed by linking reactions. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new graft copolymer, poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate‐co‐styrene) ‐graft‐poly(?‐caprolactone), was prepared by combination of reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (RAFT) with coordination‐insertion ring‐opening polymerization (ROP). The copolymerization of styrene (St) and 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) was carried out at 60 °C in the presence of 2‐phenylprop‐2‐yl dithiobenzoate (PPDTB) using AIBN as initiator. The molecular weight of poly (2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate‐co‐styrene) [poly(HEMA‐co‐St)] increased with the monomer conversion, and the molecular weight distribution was in the range of 1.09 ~ 1.39. The ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ?‐caprolactone was then initiated by the hydroxyl groups of the poly(HEMA‐co‐St) precursors in the presence of stannous octoate (Sn(Oct)2). GPC and 1H‐NMR data demonstrated the polymerization courses are under control, and nearly all hydroxyl groups took part in the initiation. The efficiency of grafting was very high. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 5523–5529, 2004  相似文献

Radical copolymerizations of 2‐isothiocyanatoethyl methacrylate (ITEMA) and 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) or methacrylic acid (MAA) were examined, and fundamental properties of the obtained copolymers were investigated. The copolymerizations of various ITEMA/HEMA or ITEMA/MAA compositions proceeded effectively in THF or DMF by using 2,2′‐azobisbutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator, keeping the isothiocyanato groups and hydroxyl or carboxyl groups unchanged. Glass transition temperatures (Tg)s of poly(ITEMA‐co‐HEMA)s ranged from 68 to 100 °C, and they were thermally stable up to 200 °C. Meanwhile, Tgs of poly(ITEMA‐co‐MAA)s (ITEMA/MAA = 91/9, 76/24) were determined to be 91 and 109 °C, respectively. However, poly(ITEMA‐co‐MAA)s were thermally unstable, and significant weight loss was observed around 180 °C, which may be due to an addition of carboxyl groups to isothiocyanato groups followed by an elimination of COS to form amide structure in the copolymers. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Statistical copolymers of methyl methacrylate (MMA) with 2‐methacryloyloxyethyl ferrocenecarboxylate (MAEFC) were prepared by free radical polymerization. The reactivity ratios were estimated using the Fineman‐Ross, inverted Fineman‐Ross, Kelen‐Tüdos, and extended Kelen‐Tüdos graphical methods. Structural parameters of the copolymers were obtained by calculating the dyad monomer sequence fractions and the mean sequence length. The glass‐transition temperature (Tg) values of the copolymers were measured and examined by means of several theoretical equations, allowing the prediction of these Tg values. The thermal degradation behavior of the copolymers was also studied and compared with the respective homopolymers. Cyclic voltammetry was employed to study the electrochemical properties of the copolymers. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

ABA block copolymers of methyl methacrylate and methylphenylsilane were synthesized with a methodology based on atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The reaction of samples of α,ω‐dihalopoly(methylphenylsilane) with 2‐hydroxyethyl‐2‐methyl‐2‐bromoproprionate gave suitable macroinitiators for the ATRP of methyl methacrylate. The latter procedure was carried out at 95 °C in a xylene solution with CuBr and 2,2‐bipyridine as the initiating system. The rate of the polymerization was first‐order with respect to monomer conversion. The block copolymers were characterized with 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy and size exclusion chromatography, and differential scanning calorimetry was used to obtain preliminary evidence of phase separation in the copolymer products. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The miscibility of tetramethylpolycarbonate (TMPC) blends with styrenic copolymers containing various methacrylates was examined, and the interaction energies between TMPC and methacrylate were evaluated from the phase‐separation temperatures of TMPC/copolymer blends with lattice‐fluid theory combined with a binary interaction model. TMPC formed miscible blends with styrenic copolymers containing less than a certain amount of methacrylate, and these miscible blends always exhibited lower critical solution temperature (LCST)‐type phase behavior. The phase‐separation temperatures of TMPC blends with copolymers such as poly(styrene‐co‐methyl methacrylate), poly(styrene‐co‐ethyl methacrylate), poly(styrene‐con‐propyl methacrylate), and poly(styrene‐co‐phenyl methacrylate) increase with methacrylate content, go through a maximum, and decrease, whereas those of TMPC blends with poly(styrene‐con‐butyl methacrylate) and poly(styrene‐co‐cyclohexyl methacrylate) always decrease. The calculated interaction energy for a copolymer–TMPC pair is negative and increases with the methacrylate content in the copolymer. This would seem to contradict the prediction of the binary interaction model, that systems with more favorable energetic interactions have higher LCSTs. A detailed inspection of lattice‐fluid theory was performed to explain such phase behavior. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 40: 1288–1297, 2002  相似文献

The anionic polymerization of 2‐vinylnaphthalene (2VN) has been studied in tetrahydrofuran (THF) at ?78 °C and in toluene at 40 °C. 2VN polymerization in THF, toluene, or toluene/THF (99:1 v/v) initiated by sec‐butyllithium (sBuLi) indicates living characteristics, affording polymers with predefined molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions. Block copolymers of 2VN with methyl methacrylate (MMA) and tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA) have been synthesized successfully by sequential monomer addition in THF at ?78 °C initiated by an adduct of sBuLi–LiCl. The crossover propagation from poly(2‐vinylnaphthyllithium) (P2VN) macroanions to MMA and tBA appears to be living, the molecular weight and composition can be predicted, and the molecular weight distribution of the resulting block copolymer is narrow (weight‐average molecular/number‐average molecular weight < 1.3). Block copolymers with different chain lengths for the P2VN segment can easily be prepared by variations in the monomer ratios. The block copolymerization of 2VN with hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane also results in a block copolymer of P2VN and poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) contaminated with a significant amount of homo‐PDMS. Poly(2VN‐b‐nBA) (where nBA is n‐butyl acrylate) has also been prepared by the transesterification reaction of the poly(2VN‐b‐tBA) block copolymer. Size exclusion chromatography, Fourier transform infrared, and 1H NMR measurements indicate that the resulting polymers have the required architecture. The corresponding amphiphilic block copolymer of poly(2VN‐b‐AA) (where AA is acrylic acid) has been synthesized by acidic hydrolysis of the ester group of tert‐butyl from the poly(2VN‐b‐tBA) copolymer. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The goal was to electrospin 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate — based biocompatible polymers and prepare submicron fibres (nanofibers) for biomedicinal applications. Syntheses of poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (HEMA) and its copolymer with 2-ethoxyethyl methacrylate (EOEMA), and their characterization by viscometry and molecular weight are described. Their relation to electrospinning is discussed. Electrospinning of HEMA homopolymer from water-ethanol is successful for molecular weights 6.31 × 105 and 1.80 × 106 g/mol. Electrospinning of HEMA/EOEMA copolymers is feasible from ethanol.   相似文献
