Ethylene (E), propylene (P), and 1‐pentene (A) terpolymers differing in monomer composition ratio were produced, using the metallocenes rac‐ethylene bis(indenyl) zirconium dichloride/methylaluminoxane (rac‐Et(Ind)2ZrCl2/MAO), isopropyl bis(cyclopentadienyl)fluorenyl zirconium dichloride/methylaluminoxane (Me2C(Cp)(Flu)ZrCl2/MAO, and bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconium dichloride, supported on silica impregnated with MAO (Cp2ZrCl2/MAO/SiO2/MAO) as catalytic systems. The catalytic activities at 25 °C and normal pressure were compared. The best result was obtained with the first catalyst. A detailed study of 13C NMR chemical shifts, triad sequences distributions, monomer‐average sequence lengths, and reactivity ratios for the terpolymers is presented. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Synthesis and characterization of a novel carbazole‐based monomer, 9‐(bicyclo[2.2.1]hept‐5‐en‐2‐ylmethyl)‐9H‐carbazole (BHMCZ) and its copolymerization with ethylene by using two metallocene/MAO catalyst systems are presented. The monomer was characterized by means of NMR spectroscopy, MS and elementary analysis. Copolymerization studies were conducted using [Ph2C(Ind)(Cp)ZrCl2] and [Ph2C(Flu)(Cp)ZrCl2] catalysts. The [Ph2C(Ind)(Cp)ZrCl2] catalyst gave a copolymer containing as much as 4.6 mol‐% of BHMCZ. Polymers were characterized using NMR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).  相似文献

A study was made on the effects of polymerization conditions on the long‐chain branching, molecular weight, and end‐group types of polyethene produced with the metallocene‐catalyst systems Et[Ind]2ZrCl2/MAO, Et[IndH4]2ZrCl2/MAO, and (n‐BuCp)2ZrCl2/MAO. Long‐chain branching in the polyethenes, as measured by dynamic rheometry, depended heavily on the catalyst and polymerization conditions. In a semibatch flow reactor, the level of branching in the polyethenes produced with Et[Ind]2ZrCl2/MAO increased as the ethene concentration decreased or the polymerization time increased. The introduction of hydrogen or comonomer suppressed branching. Under similar polymerization conditions, the two other catalyst systems, (n‐BuCp)2ZrCl2/MAO and Et[IndH4]2ZrCl2/MAO, produced linear or only slightly branched polyethene. On the basis of an end‐group analysis by FTIR and molecular weight analysis by GPC, we concluded that a chain transfer to ethene was the prevailing termination mechanism with Et[Ind]2ZrCl2/MAO at 80 °C in toluene. For the other catalyst systems, β‐H elimination dominated at low ethene concentrations. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 376–388, 2000  相似文献

The effect of the copolymerization temperature and amount of comonomer in the copolymerization of ethylene with 1,3‐cyclopentadiene, dicyclopentadiene, and 4‐vinyl‐1‐cyclohexene and the rac‐Et[Ind]2ZrCl2–methylaluminoxane metallocene system was studied. The amount of comonomer present in the reaction media influenced the catalytic activity. Dicyclopentadiene was the most reactive comonomer among the cyclic dienes studied. In general, copolymers synthesized at 60 °C showed higher catalytic activities. Ethylene–dicyclopentadiene copolymers with high comonomer contents (>9%) did not show melting temperatures. 1,3‐Cyclopentadiene dimerized into dicyclopentadiene during the copolymerization, giving a terpolymer of ethylene, cyclopentadiene, and dicyclopentadiene. A complete characterization of the products was carried out with 1H NMR, 13C NMR, heteronuclear chemical shift correlation, differential scanning calorimetry, and gel permeation chromatography. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Monoterpenes were used as renewable chain transfer agents and polymerization solvents for metallocene/methylaluminoxane (MAO) catalysis. The polymerization of 1‐hexene, ethylene, and propylene in d‐limonene, hydrogenated d‐limonene and α‐pinene is reported. As detected by 1H NMR analysis of the alkene region, chain transfer to d‐limonene yielded a higher percentage of trisubstituted alkenes. Size exclusion chromatography detected a decrease in molecular weight values resulting from chain transfer to d‐limonene. The [mmmm] pentads for isotactic polypropylene were characterized by 13C NMR and FTIR spectroscopy. Propylene polymerizations with the Et(Ind)2ZrCl2/MAO and Me2Si(Ind)2ZrCl2/MAO catalyst systems in d‐limonene gave [mmmm] pentad values as high as 0.97. For the Et(Ind)2ZrCl2/MAO catalyst system at 0 °C, the mol fraction of [mmmm] pentads increased from 0.86 to 0.94 upon switching the solvent from toluene to d‐limonene. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Gas-phase polymerizations have been executed at different temperatures, pressures, and hydrogen concentrations using Me2Si[Ind]2ZrCl2 / methylaluminoxane / SiO2(Pennsylvania Quarts) as a catalyst. The reaction rate curves have been described by a kinetic model, which takes into account the initially increasing polymerization rate. The monomer concentration in the polymer has been calculated with the Flory–Huggins equation. The kinetic parameters have been determined by fitting the reaction rate curves with the model. At high temperatures, pressures, and hydrogen concentrations a runaway on particle scale may occur leading to reduced polymer yields. The molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of the polymer samples could be described by a “two-site model.” At constant temperature the chain-transfer probability of sites 1 and 2 depends only on the hydrogen concentration divided by the monomer concentration. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. This article discusses a chemical route to prepare new ethylene/propylene copolymers (EP) containing a terminal reactive group, such as ?‐CH3 and OH. The chemistry involves metallocene‐mediated ethylene/propylene copolymerization in the presence of a consecutive chain transfer agent—a mixture of hydrogen and styrene derivatives carrying a CH3 (p‐MS) or a silane‐protected OH (St‐OSi). The major challenge is to find suitable reaction conditions that can simultaneously carry out effective ethylene/propylene copolymerization and incorporation of the styrenic molecule (St‐f) at the polymer chain end, in other words, altering the St‐f incorporation mode from copolymerization to chain transfer. A systematic study was conducted to examine several metallocene catalyst systems and reaction conditions. Both [(C5Me4)SiMe2N(t‐Bu)]TiCl2 and rac‐Et(Ind)2ZrCl2, under certain H2 pressures, were found to be suitable catalyst systems to perform the combined task. A broad range of St‐f terminated EP copolymers (EP‐t‐p‐MS and EP‐t‐St‐OH), with various compositions and molecular weights, have been prepared with polymer molecular weight inversely proportional to the molar ratio of [St‐f]/[monomer]. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper discusses a new process of preparing borane‐terminated isotactic polypropylenes (i‐PPs) via in situ chain transfer reaction, which avoids the use of B‐H‐containing chain transfer agent and thus can be carried out with Al‐activated metallocene catalyst under mild reaction conditions. The chemistry centers on a consecutive chain transfer reaction, first to a trialkylborane‐containing styrene derivative, 4‐[B‐(n‐butylene)‐9‐BBN]styrene (B‐styrene), then to hydrogen in the isoselective polymerization of propylene catalyzed by rac‐Me2Si(2‐Me‐4‐Ph‐Ind)2ZrCl2/MAO. The borane‐terminated i‐PP thus obtained keeps the desired properties of a polymeric alkyl‐9‐BBN reagent and was used to initiate radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) to prepare i‐PP‐b‐PMMA diblock copolymer. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 7‐Octenyldimethylphenylsilane was copolymerized with ethylene via Et(Ind)2ZrCl2 methylaluminoxane catalyst system without loss of catalyst activity or decrease in molar mass. The comonomer contents in the polymer samples were at a level of 0.15–1.0 mol % and the reactive phenylsilane groups were posttreated to different alcoxy‐ and halosilane groups, for example, Si? F, Si? Cl, Si? OCH3, and Si? OCH2CH3. The posttreatment reactions had no major effect on the molar masses or on the thermal properties (measured with differential scanning calorimetry) of the copolymers. The reaction pathways were nearly independent of the comonomer contents and the reactions reached 70–100% conversions. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, ethylene‐1‐hexene copolymers were synthesized with a tandem catalysis system that consisted of a new trimerization catalyst bis(2‐dodecylsulfanyl‐ethyl) amine‐CrCl3/MAO ( 1 /MAO) and copolymerization catalyst Et(Ind)2ZrCl2/MAO ( 2 /MAO) at atmosphere pressure. Catalyst 1 trimerized ethylene with high activity and excellent selectivity in the presence of a relatively low amount of MAO. Catalyst 2 incorporated the 1‐hexene content and produced ethylene‐1‐hexene copolymer from an ethylene‐only stock in the same reactor. Adjusting the Cr/Zr ratio and reaction temperature yielded various branching densities and thus melting temperatures. However, broad DSC curves were observed when low temperatures and/or high Cr/Zr ratios were employed due to an accumulation of 1‐hexene component and composition drifting during the copolymerization. It was found that a short pretrimerization period resulted in more homogeneous materials that gave unimodal DSC curves. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article discussed the root causes of the interesting differences between rac‐Et(Ind)2ZrCl2 and dimethyl (pyridyl‐amido)hafnium in catalyzing the propylene/ω‐halo‐α‐alkene copolymerization. Confirmed by density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the larger spacial opening around the active center of rac‐Et(Ind)2ZrCl2 contributes to the coordination and insertion of the monomers, resulting in the higher catalytic activity, while the narrow spacial opening around the Hf center retards the chain transfer reaction, leading to the much higher molecular weights (Mws) of the copolymers. The superior tolerability of Zr catalyst toward halogen groups might be attributed to that the dormant species generated from halogen coordination could be promptly reactivated. DFT calculations indicated the higher probability for the ω‐halo‐α‐alkene vinyl to coordinate with the Hf catalyst leading to the better ability to incorporate halogenated monomers. The high Mws and the outstanding isotacticity achieved by the Hf catalyst determined the higher melting temperature values of the copolymers with a certain amount of halogen groups. In addition, the chain transfer schemes were employed to analyze why the presence of halogenated monomers greatly decreased the Mws of the copolymers when rac‐Et(Ind)2ZrCl2 was used, while had no or little effect upon the Mws in the copolymerization by the Hf catalyst. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Introduction of functional groups into polyolefins has the potential of broadening their end use. An attractive method for preparing polyolefins containing functional groups is the copolymerization of the olefins with α‐olefins containing a functional group. Copolymerizations of propylene with 10‐undecen‐1‐ol, containing a hydroxyl group protected by either TIBA or TBDMSCl, 11‐chloro‐1‐undecene, 5‐bromopent‐1‐ene and N‐allyl‐2,2,2‐trifluoroacetamide were performed using three organometallic catalysts: the metallocene rac‐Et(Ind)2ZrCl2 and two new benzamidinate catalysts [3‐C5H4NC(NSiCH3)2]2TiCl2 and [(m‐OMe‐C6H4NC(NSiCH3)2]2ZrCl2. 10‐Undecene‐1‐ol protected “in situ” with TIBA and N‐(dec‐9‐enyl)‐2,2,2‐trifluoroacetamide gave copolymers with similar polar monomer incorporation percentages and molecular weights 17%; 28,900 g/mol for the protected 10‐undecene‐1‐ol, and 15%; 27,100 g/mol for N‐(dec‐9‐enyl)‐2,2,2‐trifluoroacetamide. 11‐Chloro‐1‐undecene gave copolymers with up to 22% incorporation for 0.12 M of the comonomer in the reaction feed. The obtained copolymers were characterized by NMR, DSC, and GPC. Membranes were prepared from two copolymers containing the hydroxyl groups (6 and 10%) and one copolymer containing chlorine groups (7%). The membranes prepared could be wetted in contrast to polypropylene membranes which do not contain functional groups. In addition, it was observed that for both type of membranes prepared from the different copolymers containing the hydroxyl groups, the flux was significantly greater than for the membrane prepared from the copolymer containing a chlorine groups. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The kinetics of the ethylene‐norbornene copolymerization, catalyzed by rac‐Et(Ind)2ZrCl2/MAO, 90%rac/10%meso‐Et(4,7‐Me2Ind)2ZrCl2/MAO and rac‐H2C(3‐tert‐BuInd)2ZrCl2/MAO was followed by sampling from the reaction mixture at fixed time intervals. Catalyst activity, copolymer composition and molar mass were studied as a function of time. The polymers showed an unusually low polydispersity and a significant increase in their molar mass with time, suggesting a quasi‐living polymerization.  相似文献

The copolymerization of propene with 7‐methyl‐1,6‐octadiene (MOD) catalyzed by Cp*TiMe3/B(C6F5)3 ( A ) and rac‐C2H4(Ind)2ZrCl2/methylaluminoxane ( B ) in toluene under 1 bar propene gave copolymers with unsaturated side chains. Under these conditions, catalyst A produced copolymers with an atactic backbone structure of type 1 , with 3.5–19.6 mol % MOD incorporation and weight‐average molecular weight = 0.7–2.7 × 105. Using catalyst B , copolymers 2 with 0.4–3.8 mol % MOD incorporation were prepared. The comonomer incorporation was a linear function of the feed ratio. The titanium catalyst A had a significantly higher affinity for MOD than the sterically more hindered zirconocene B . Postpolymerization modification of the side‐chain C?C bond allowed the facile introduction of a wide variety of functional groups. Epoxidation and especially ozonolysis of the C?C bond, to give ? CHO and ? COOH functionalized copolymers, proved to be very facile routes to functionalized polypropenes. According to monitoring by NMR, most of these transformations proceed in an essentially quantitative conversion. As an example of potential applications of such polymers, polypropenes with covalently attached dyes were prepared that are suitable for blending. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Their catalytic behaviors were compared with those of (Et3SiCp)(PhCH2CH2Cp)ZrCl2, (PhCH2Cp)2ZrCl2, (PhCH2‐ CH2Cp)2ZrCl2, (o‐Me? PhCH2CH2Cp)2ZrCl2, and (Ind)2ZrCl2 in ethylene polymerization in the presence of methylaluminoxane. Complex 5 showed high activity up to 2.43 × 106 g of polyethylene (PE)/mol of Zr h, and complex 4 produced PE with bimodal molecular weight distributions. The methyl group at the 2‐position of phenyl in complex 5 increased the activity greatly. This article reports the use of a binary single‐site catalyst system for synthesizing comb‐branched polypropylene samples having isotactic polypropylene (iPP) backbones and atactic polypropylene (aPP) side chains from propylene feedstock. This catalyst system consisted of the bisiminepyridine iron catalyst {[2‐ArN?C(Me)]2C5H3N}FeCl2 [Ar = 2,6‐C6H3(Me)2] ( 1 ) and the zirconocene catalyst rac‐Me2Si(2‐MeBenz[e]Ind)2ZrCl2 ( 2 ). The former in situ generated 1‐propenyl‐ended aPP macromonomer, whereas the latter incorporated the macromonomer into the copolymer. The effects of reaction conditions, such as the catalyst addition procedure and the ratio of 1 / 2 on the branching frequency, were examined. Copolymer samples having a branching density up to 8.6 aPP side chains per 1000 iPP monomer units were obtained. The branched copolymers were characterized by 13C NMR and differential scanning calorimetry. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 41: 1152–1159, 2003  相似文献

Structurally well‐defined end functionalized isotactic polypropylene (iPP) is prepared by conducting a selective chain transfer reaction during the isospecific polymerization of propylene in the presence of norbornadiene (NBD) and hydrogen using rac‐Me2Si(2‐Me‐4‐Ph‐Ind)2 ZrCl2/MAO as the catalyst. The production of NBD‐capped iPP involves a unique consecutive chain transfer reaction, first to NBD and then to hydrogen, for situating the incorporated NBD at the iPP chain end. The NBD end group of NBD‐capped iPP can be converted into other reactive functional group through functional group transformation reactions. The resulting functional group end‐capped iPP can be used for the construction of stereoregular block copolymers (e.g., iPP‐b‐PMMA and iPP‐b‐PS) through postpolymeriztion reactions. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cp2ZrCl2 confined inside the supercage of NaY zeolites [NaY/methylaluminoxane (MAO)/Cp2ZrCl2] exhibited the shape and diffusion of a monomer‐controlled copolymerization mechanism that strongly depended on the molecular structure of the monomer and its size. For the ethylene–propylene copolymerization, NaY/MAO/Cp2ZrCl2 showed the effect of the comonomer on the increase in the polymerization rate in the presence of propylene, whereas the ethylene/1‐hexene copolymerization showed little comonomer effect, and the ethylene/1‐octene copolymerization instead showed a comonomer depression effect on the polymerization rate. Isobutylene, having a larger kinetic diameter, had little influence on the copolymerization behaviors with NaY/MAO/Cp2ZrCl2 for the ethylene–isobutylene copolymerization, which showed evidence of the shape and diffusion of a monomer‐controlled mechanism. The content of the comonomer in the copolymer chain prepared with NaY/MAO/Cp2ZrCl2 decreased by about one‐half in comparison with that of Cp2ZrCl2. A differential scanning calorimetry study on the melting endotherms after the successive annealing of the copolymers showed that the copolymers of NaY/MAO/Cp2ZrCl2 had narrow comonomer distributions, whereas those of homogeneous Cp2ZrCl2 were broad. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, the synthesis of polypropylene (PP)/graphene nanosheet (GNS) nanocomposites by in situ polymerization using metallocene catalysts was studied. Initial reactions were performed using rac‐Et(Ind)2ZrCl2 and rac‐Me2Si(Ind)2ZrCl2 catalysts to select the best one to obtain good molecular weight, thermal properties, and tacticity. Subsequently, PP nanocomposites with different loadings of GNS were obtained. GNS from two different sources [Graphite Nacional (GN) and Graphite Aldrich (GA)] have been used, and the differences between the obtained nanocomposites were evaluated. The GNS and nanocomposites were studied by scanning electronic microcopy, transmission electronic microcopy, and X‐ray diffraction. They showed that the GN nanosheets had lower crystal size and diameter than the GA nanosheets and dispersed better in the PP matrix. Differential scanning calorimetry analyses of both types of nanocomposites showed an increase in the crystallization temperature with increasing graphite loading. The polymeric materials were also characterized by GPC, thermogravimetric analysis, and 13C NMR. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

Vinylcyclohexane (VCH) was copolymerized with ethene and propene using methylaluminoxane‐activated metallocene catalysts. The catalyst precursor for the ethene copolymerization was rac‐ethylenebis(indenyl)ZrCl2 ( 1 ). Propene copolymerizations were further studied with Cs‐symmetric isopropylidene(cyclopentadienyl)(fluorenyl)ZrCl2 ( 2 ), C1‐symmetric ethylene(1‐indenyl‐2‐phenyl‐2‐fluorenyl)ZrCl2 ( 3 ), and “meso”‐dimethylsilyl[3‐benzylindenyl)(2‐methylbenz[e]indenyl)]ZrCl2 ( 4 ). Catalyst 1 produced a random ethene–VCH copolymer with very high activity and moderate VCH incorporation. The highest comonomer content in the copolymer was 3.5 mol %. Catalysts 1 and 4 produced poly(propene‐co‐vinylcyclohexane) with moderate to good activities [up to 4900 and 15,400 kg of polymer/(mol of catalyst × h) for 1 and 4 , respectively] under similar reaction conditions but with fairly low comonomer contents (up to 1.0 and 2.0% for 1 and 4 , respectively). Catalysts 2 and 3 , both bearing a fluorenyl moiety, gave propene–VCH copolymers with only negligible amounts of the comonomer. The homopolymerization of VCH was performed with 1 as a reference, and low‐molar‐mass isotactic polyvinylcyclohexane with a low activity was obtained. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
