A method is proposed for calculating hypersonic ideal-gas flow past blunt-edged delta wings with aspect ratios = 100–200. The relaxation of polymers with linear flexible chains of uniform length   总被引:2,自引:8,他引:2  
The analysis of dynamic mechanical data indicates that linear flexible polymer chains of uniform length follow a scaling relation during their relaxation, having a linear viscoelastic relaxation spectrum of the formH() = n 1 G N 0 × (/ max) n1 for max. Data are well represented with a scaling exponent of about 0.22 for polystyrene and 0.42 for polybutadiene. The plateau modulusG N 0 is a material-specific constant and the longest relaxation time depends on the molecular weight in the expected way. At high frequencies, the scaling behavior is masked by the transition to the glassy response. Surprisingly, this transition seems to follow a Chambon-Winter spectrumH() = C–n2, which was previously adopted for describing other liquid/solid transitions. The analysis shows that the Rouse spectrum is most suitable for low molecular-weight polymersM M c , and that the de Gennes-Doi-Edwards spectrum clearly predicts terminal relaxation, but deviates from the observed behavior in the plateau region.Dedicated to Prof. Richard S. Various aspects of the problem of intense blowing through the surface of bodies have, been theoretically studied by a number of authors, within the framework of inviscid flow theory. A detailed bibliography on this topic is given, e.g., in [1, 2]. The well-known approaches to solution of this problem have a limited area of application. For example, asymptotic methods can be used for hypersonic flow regimes only at relatively low levels of the blown gas momentum ( = 2 = ovo 2/ V 2 1). The same limitation applies to the numerical method of straight lines [2]. The forward Eulerian calculation schemes [3, 4] smear the contact discontinuity severely, and cannot handle the case where the blown gas and the gas in the incident flow have different thermodynamic properties (o ). This paper presents results of a numerical investigation of supersonic flow over two-dimensional and axisymmetric bodies with intense blowing on the forward surface, performed using a time-dependent finite-difference method [5] with an explicit definition of the contact interface between the two cases. An experimental investigation of scaling laws in turbulence generated by a biplane grid for low Reynolds numbers (Re ) is presented. The present study covers a wide range of flow field conditions (from Re 2.5 to Re 36) that have not been analyzed from this point of view. It is shown that following the Kolmogorov theory a scaling range can not be observed since the separation between the energy production scales and the dissipative scales is too short. On the other hand, an extended form of scaling, the Extended Self-Similarity (ESS), permits the identification of a range of scales characterized by the same scaling exponent much wider than the one previously examined. Thus the scaling laws for the first six moments of the velocity structure function are accurately calculated by means of the ESS and an anomalous scaling with respect to the Kolmogorov theory is observed for Re down to the order of 10. As a matter of fact the scaling exponents are in good agreement with the ones that were determined at higher Re by previous experimental and numerical investigations. For Re 6 a regularization of the scaling exponents is observed as an effect of the dissipation. We also present an analysis of the universality properties of the ESS form of scaling by means of the form function and an analysis of the sensitivity of the scaling range to the Re .  相似文献

This paper discusses the asymptotic behavior as 0+ of the chemical potentials associated with solutions of variational problems within the Van der Waals-Cahn-Hilliard theory of phase transitions in a fluid with free energy, per unit volume, given by 2¦¦2+ W(), where is the density. The main result is that is asymptotically equal to E/d+o(), with E the interfacial energy, per unit surface area, of the interface between phases, the (constant) sum of principal curvatures of the interface, and d the density jump across the interface. This result is in agreement with a formula conjectured by M. Gurtin and corresponds to the Gibbs-Thompson relation for surface tension, proved by G. An experimental apparatus for investigating Rayleigh-Taylor instability in the transition layer between two gases at accelerations g 105g0 (g0 is the acceleration of gravity) is described. The constantly acting acceleration is communicated to the contact zone by the compression wave formed ahead of a flame front. The linear stage of development is investigated together with the effect of the thickness of the contact zone. The purpose of this study is the construction of interpolation formulas for the dependence of Maxwell viscosity, a quantity which is the reciprocal of shear-strain relaxation time , on shear-strain intensity and temperature for several metals: iron, aluminum, copper, and lead. The boundary-layer flow generated on an impermeable vertical surface in a saturated porous medium is considered in the case when wall heating at a rate proportional tox is switched on at timet=0, (x measures distance along the wall and is a constant). The similarity equations which hold in the limit of larget are discussed and are shown to have a solution only for >–1. The behaviour of the solution as –1 and as is obtained. Numerical solutions of the initial value problem are then obtained for a range of values of . A direct numerical integration is possible for 1, while an iterative procedure is required for <1, with the numerical scheme becoming unstable for =–0.5.

Zusammenfassung Es wird die an einer undurchlässigen, vertikalen Fläche hervorgerufene Grenzschichtströmung im Falle eines Einschalten der Heizung beit=0 betrachtet. Die Stärke der Wandheizung is proportional zux , wobeix die Koordinate längs der Wand ist und eine Konstante. Die Ähnlichkeitsgleichungen werden für den Bereich von großen Zeitent besprochen und es wird gezeigt, daß eine Lösung nur für >–1 vorliegt. Es wird das Verhalten der Lösungen für –1 und erhalten. Numerische Lösungen für die Anfangsbedingungen des Problems werden für eine Reihe von -Werten errechnet. Eine direkte numerische Integration ist für 1 möglich, während für <1 eine Iteration erforderlich ist, wobei das numerische Verhalten für =–0.5 instabil wird.

It is proposed to investigate the stability of a plane axisymmetric flow with an angular velocity profile (r) such that the angular velocity is constant when r < rO – L and r > rO + L but varies monotonically from 1 to 2 near the point rO, the thickness of the transition zone being small L rO, whereas the change in velocity is not small ¦21¦ 2, 1. Obviously, as L O short-wave disturbances with respect to the azimuthal coordinate (k=m/rO 1/rO) will be unstable with a growth rate-close to the Kelvin—Helmholtz growth rate. In the case L=O (i.e., for a profile with a shear-discontinuity) we find the instability growth rate O and show that where the thickness of the discontinuity L is finite (but small) the growth rate does not differ from O up to terms proportional to kL 1 and 1/m 1. Using this example it is possible to investigate the effect of rotation on the flow stability. The possibility of simplifying the formulas obtained by the Maxwell-Loyalka method for the velocity u, temperature T and diffusion d slip coefficients and the temperature jump coefficient in a binary gas mixture with frozen internal degrees of freedom of the molecules is considered. Special attention is paid to gases not having sharply different physicochemical properties. The formulas are written in a form convenient for use without linearization in the thermal diffusion coefficient. They are systematically analyzed for mixtures of inert gases, N2, O2, CO2, and H2 at temperatures extending from room temperature to 2500°K. It is shown that for the molecular weight ratios m* = m2/m1 considered the expressions for u and can be radically simplified. With an error acceptable for practical purposes (up to 10%) it is possible to employ expressions of the same structural form as for a single-component gas: for u if 1 m* 6, and for if 1 m* 3. When 1 m* 2 the expression for T can be simplified with a maximum error of 5%. Within the limits of accuracy of the method the expression for t can be linearized in the thermal diffusion coefficient. Summary The 4 constant parameters of an Oldroyd type constitutive equation for normal human blood of 45% haematocrit were determined by means of the steady flow curve and the material functions () and (), measured at 2 Hz in an oscillatory capillary viscometer. It was found, as other authors did before, that the phenomenological behaviour of blood flow can be reproduced qualitatively thereby. The quantitative behaviour, however, cannot be described by thus developed parameters. The parameters of the constitutive equationµ 0, 1 and 2 were therefore generalized to become dependent of shear rate and frequency respectively.In itself this is nothing but a transformation of the material functions ( ),() and (), but these can be used as parameters in a constitutive equation though having lost the property of constancy.In this way the linear region of viscoelasticity and the steady flow curve can be reproduced quantitatively. A computer simulation of oscillatory flow for large amplitudes shows another tendency for the phase shift between pressure and flow than the experiment in the oscillatory capillary rheometer does.The applicability of a constitutive equation modified in this manner for other than oscillatory flow should be further examined especially for pulsatile flow.
Zusammenfassung Mit Hilfe der Fließkurve für die stationäre Strömung und Messungen der Materialfunktion () im Oszillations-Kapillarrheometer bei 2 Hz wurden die Konstanten der 4-Konstanten-Oldroyd-Stoffgleichung für gesundes Humanblut von 45% Hämatokrit bestimmt. Es zeigte sich, daß sich — wie auch schon von anderen Autoren mitgeteilt wurde — mit den so ermittelten Modellkonstanten die Phänomenologie des Fließverhaltens des Blutes qualitativ gut beschreiben läßt. Zur quantitativen Beschreibung reicht dieses Modell jedoch nicht aus, wie man an der Wiedergabe der stationären Fließkurve und der Materialfunktionen der linearen Viskoelastizität erkennt. Aus diesem Grund wurden die Parameterµ 0, 1 und 2 in Abhängigkeit der Schergeschwindigkeit bzw. der Frequenz angesetzt.Dies bedeutet zunächst nichts anderes als eine Transformation der Materialfunktionen, jedoch in einer Art, daß letztere als Parameter in einer Stoffgleichung verwendet werden können, was allerdings mit dem Verlust der Konstanz der Parameter verbunden ist. Mit einer derart modifizierten Stoffgleichung lassen sich der Bereich der linearen Viskoelastizität und die stationäre Fließkurve quantitativ beschreiben. Eine Computersimulation der oszillierenden Rohrströmung zeigt für große Amplituden eine andere Tendenz für die Phasenverschiebung zwischen Druck und Volumenstrom, als sie sich bei Messungen am Oszillations-Kapillarrheometer ergibt.Die Anwendbarkeit der modifizierten Stoffgleichung für andere Strömungsformen, wie z.B. pulsierende Rohrströmungen, muß noch geprüft werden.

Non-circular ring vortices are innately unstable, giving rise to a range of new phenomena. Here we report on our and Heertsch's [1] experiments in which vortices were generated at rectangular holes and nozzles with aspect ratios 2<<20. Different piston histories were also used. For forestrokes alone we were able to confirm the typical non-splitting motion of the primary vortex. On introducing a backstroke following the forestroke even for values of as low as 2 — values which should not give rise to splitting vortices — vortices could be made to split into 2, 3 or 4 secondary vortices. For cases where they rejoined the process was significantly different to that predicted by theory [2]. For 3 for a nozzle geometry the splitting angle is extremely sensitive to the stroke (length) so long as splitting takes place, whereas for 9>>5 the splitting angle tends to become independent of the stroke. This sensitivity on the stroke is reduced for vortices generated at a hole geometry. For all cases investigated here the splitting angle seems to be relatively insensitive to the Reynolds number. Vortices generated at hole geometries also tend to be less stable than those generated at tube geometries. Finally, the dependence of the splitting angle on the stroke length only scales with the nozzle breadth for 7>>5.
Sommario Vortici ad anello non circolari sono intrinsecamente instabili e danno luogo ad una gamma di nuovi fenomeni. In questo articolo vengono riportati gli esperimenti degli Autori e di Heertsch in cui sono generati vortici in ugelli e fori rettangolari con rapporti geometrici =2÷20. Sono state anche usate differenti storie del moto del pistone. Nel caso in cui si usi solo la corsa in avanti si è stati capaci di confermare il moto tipico del vortice primario senza divisione del vortice stesso. Introducendo una corsa inversa, subito dopo la corsa in avanti, persino per pari circa a 2 — valore in cui il vortice non si dovrebbe dividere — i vortici si potevano dividere in due, tre o quattro vortici secondari. Nei casi in cui si verificava la riconnessione, l'evoluzione del processo era molto differente rispetto alla teoria. Per <3, per una data geometria dell'ugello, l'angolo di separazione è estremamente sensibile alla lunghezza della corsa, mentre per =5÷9 l'angolo di separazione tende a diventare indipendente dalla corsa. Questa sensibilità è ridotta per vortici generati in fori. In tutti i casi l'angolo di separazione sembra abbastanza indipendente dal numero di Reynolds. Vortici generati in corrispondenza di fori tendono ad essere meno stabili di quelli generati in ugelli. Infine, la dipendenza dall'angolo di separazione sulla lunghezza della corsa scala con l'ampiezza dell'ugello solamente per =5÷7.

In the present paper we consider the nonlinear evolution equation u+AuG(u), where A:D(A)XX is m-accretive with (I+A)–1 compact for some >0, and is continuous, and we prove that the orbit is relatively compact if and only if u is uniformly continuous, and both u and G^u are bounded on . In the same spirit, we derive conditions for orbits of bounded sets to have compact attractors. Summary As part of a study on the hydrodynamics of a cyclone separator, a theoretical investigation of the flow pattern in a flat box cyclone (vortex chamber) has been carried out. Expressions have been derived for the tangential velocity profile as influenced by internal friction (eddy viscosity) and wall friction. The most important parameter controlling the tangential velocity profile is = –u 0 R/(v+ ), where u 0 is the radial velocity at the outer radius R of the cyclone, the kinematic liquid viscosity and is the kinematic eddy viscosity. For values of greater than about 10 the tangential velocity profile is nearly hyperbolic, for smaller than 1 the tangential velocity even decreases towards the centre. It is shown how and also the wall friction coefficient may be obtained from experimental velocity profiles with the aid of suitable graphs. Results are presented of a study of the gasdynamic parameters and the geometric characteristics of the mixing zone of axisymmetric jets of gases of differing density (Freon-12, air, and helium) propagating in a parallel air stream, within the limits of the initial segment (0x/R3–30). Zusammenfassung In einer vergleichenden Literaturübersicht zu Umströmung, Druck- bzw. Geschwindigkeitsverteilung sowie Wärme- und Stoffübergang werden bislang vorliegende Angaben zu stumpf angeströmten Kreisscheiben und -Zylindern zusammengefaßt. Wenige und zudem divergierende Ergebnisse zum Wärme- und Stoffübergang machen grundlegende experimentelle und theoretische Untersuchungen notwendig, wie sie in [l, 2] für die Eichung von Stoffübergangsmeßmethoden benötigt werden.Unter Einbeziehung des quer angeströmten Kreiszylinders wird gezeigt, daß genaue Angaben zum Wärme- und Stoffübergang bei zwei- wie dreidimensionalen Staupunktströmungen bislang nur über die Messung möglich sind. Über gemessene Geschwindigkeitsverteilungen berechnete Stoffübergangskoeffizienten werden von der Messung nicht bestätigt. Sie liegen gegenüber dem Experiment zu niedrig.Die Messungen wurden bei Turbulenzintensiten 0,8%Tu6%, Reynolds-Zahlen 2·1035 und Scheibendurchmessern 9,3mmd73,7mm durchgeführt. Der Einfluß der Turbulenz auf den Stoffübergang im Staupunkt von Kreisscheiben kann nur näherungsweise über den Smith-Kuethe-Parameter Tu · Re/100 erfaßt werden. Differenzen zwischen Theorie nach Smith und Kuethe für Tu· Re<5 und Messung lassen sich über die Stabilitätstheorie erklären. Für eine genauere Erfassung des Stoffübergangs muß den unterschiedlichen Transportvorgängen über Turbulenzballen oder Längswirbeln sowie der Struktur der Turbulenz Rechnung getragen werden.

The results of different publications concerning the flow, pressure and velocity distributions as well as the heat and mass transfer of disks and cylinders in cross flow are compared by a literature review. A few diverging results for heat and mass transfer require new experimental and theoretical approaches. The calibration of recently developed techniques for the determination of mass transfer rates as published in [1, 2] make these investigations expecially necessary. Including the cylinder in cross flow the authors show, that up to now exact data of heat and mass transfer for two- or three-dimensional flow at a forward stagnation region can be obtained by direct measuring only.Mass transfer coefficients computed from measured velocity distributions are not confirmed by the experimental results. Compared to the experimental data they are too low. The measurements were accomplished for turbulence intensities 0.8%Tu6%, Reynolds-numbers 2· 1035 and disk diameters 9.3 mm d 73.7 mm.The influence of the turbulence on the stagnation point mass transfer of disks can be obtained only approximately by the Smith-Kuethe-parameter Tu·Re/100. Differences between theoretical results of Smith and Kuethe and experimental ones for Tu·Re/100<5 may be explained by the stability theory. For a more accurate determination of the mass transfer the different transport mechanisms of the scale of turbulence or the tree-dimensional flow pattern like Taylor-Görtler-vortices as well as the structure of the turbulence itself have to be regarded.
