The ion-molecule reactions of dimethyl ether ions CH3OCH3 + and (CH3OCH3)H+, and four- to seven-membered ring lactams with methyl substituents in various positions were characterized by using a quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer and a triple-quadrupole mass spectrometer. In both instruments, the lactams were protonated by dimethyl ether ions and formed various combinations of [M + 13] +, [M + 15] +, and [M + 45] + adduct ions, as well as unusual [M + 3] + and [M + 16] + adduct ions. An additional [M + 47] + adduct ion was formed in the conventional chemical ionization source of the triple-quadrupole mass spectrometer. The product ions were isolated and collisionally activated in the quadrupole ion trap to understand formation pathways, structures, and characteristic dissociation pathways. Sequential activation experiments were performed to elucidate fragment ion structures and stepwise dissociation sequences. Protonated lactams dissociate by loss of water, ammonia, or methylamine; ammonia and carbon monoxide; and water and ammonia or methylamine. The [M + 16] + products, which are identified as protonated lactone structures, are only formed by those lactams that do not have an N-methyl substituent. The ion-molecule reactions of dimethyl ether ions with lactams were compared with those of analogous amides and lactones.  相似文献

The structures of the major adduct ions formed in ammonia chemical ionization of thirteen aliphatic and aromatic ketones have been studied by mass analysed ion kinetic energy spectrometry. The [M+NH3+H]+ ion is shown to have a protonated carbinolamine structure, [M+2NH3+H]+ to be a protonated carbinolamine with hydrogen-bonded ammonia and [2M+NH3+H]+ to be, at least in part, a protonated carbinolamine with hydrogen-bonded ketone. These structures may imply a nucleophilic addition of ammonia at the carbonyl of the ketone-ammonium ion complex. An unusual hydroxy migration is seen in the internal rearrangement of the [2M+NH3+H]+ ion leading to the formation of a protonated imine.  相似文献

The electron impact (EI) ionization-induced fragmentation pathways of the new 1,9-bis(dimethylamino) phenalenium cation [1]+ were investigated. The peri-dimethylamino substituents of [1]+ are incorporated in a trimethine cyanine substructure and show strong steric interactions. A mechanism is proposed for the unusual elimination of CH3N?CH2, HN(CH3)2 and (CH3)3N from [1]+ and for the accompanying cyclizations to heterocyclic ions: prior to fragmentation, the intact cation [1]+ rearranges, by reciprocal CH3 and H transfers, to new isomeric cations which decompose subsequently in a characteristic way. A wealth of consistent information on dissociation pathways and fragment structures is provided by collision-induced dissociation tandem mass spectra, collision-induced dissociation mass-analysed ion kinetic energy spectra and exact mass measurements of the salt cation and of its primary fragment ions. The liquid secondary ion mass spectrum of [1]+ is very similar to its EI mass spectrum.  相似文献

Protonated amino acids and derivatives RCH(NH2)C(+O)X · H+ (X = OH, NH2, OCH3) do not form stable acylium ions on loss of HX, but rather the acylium ion eliminates CO to form the immonium ion RCH = NH 2 + . By contrast, protonated dipeptide derivatives H2NCH(R)C(+O)NHCH(R′)C(+O)X · H+ [X = OH, OCH3, NH2, NHCH(R″)COOH] form stable B2 ions by elimination of HX. These B2 ions fragment on the metastable ion time scale by elimination of CO with substantial kinetic energy release (T 1/2 = 0.3–0.5 eV). Similarly, protonated N-acetyl amino acid derivatives CH3C(+O)NHCH(R′)C(+O)X · H+ [X = OH, OCH3, NH2, NHCH(R″)COOH] form stable B ions by loss of HX. These B ions also fragment unimolecularly by loss of CO with T 1/2 values of ~ 0.5 eV. These large kinetic energy releases indicate that a stable configuration of the B ions fragments by way of activation to a reacting configuration that is higher in energy than the products, and some of the fragmentation exothermicity of the final step is partitioned into kinetic energy of the separating fragments. We conclude that the stable configuration is a protonated oxazolone, which is formed by interaction of the developing charge (as HX is lost) with the N-terminus carbonyl group and that the reacting configuration is the acyclic acylium ion. This conclusion is supported by the similar fragmentation behavior of protonated 2-phenyl-5-oxazolone and the B ion derived by loss of H-Gly-OH from protonated C6H5C(+O)-Gly-Gly-OH. In addition, ab initio calculations on the simplest B ion, nominally HC(+O)NHCH2CO+, show that the lowest energy structure is the protonated oxazolone. The acyclic acylium isomer is 1.49 eV higher in energy than the protonated oxazolone and 0.88 eV higher in energy than the fragmentation products, HC(+O)N+H = CH2 + CO, which is consistent with the kinetic energy releases measured.  相似文献

The [C4H70]+ ions [CH2?CH? C(?OH)CH3]+ (1), [CH3CH?CH? C(?OH)H]+ (2), [CH2?C(CH3)C(?OH)H]+ (3), [Ch3CH2CH2C?O]+ (4) and [(CH3)2CHC?O]+ (5) have been characterized by their collision-induced dissociation (CID) mass spectra and charge stripping mass spectra. The ions 1–3 were prepared by gas phase protonation of the relevant carbonyl compounds while 4 and 5 were prepared by dissociative electron impact ionization of the appropriate carbonyl compounds. Only 2 and 3 give similar spectra and are difficult to distinguish from each other; the remaining ions can be readily characterized by either their CID mass spectra or their charge stripping mass spectra. The 2-pentanone molecular ion fragments by loss of the C(1) methyl and the C(5) methyl in the ratio 60:40 for metastable ions; at higher internal energies loss of the C(1) methyl becomes more favoured. Metastable ion characteristics, CID mass spectra and charge stripping mass spectra all show that loss of the C(1) methyl leads to formation of the acyl ion 4, while loss of the C(5) methyl leads to formation of protonated vinyl methyl ketone (1). These results are in agreement with the previously proposed potential energy diagram for the [C5H10O]+˙ system.  相似文献

Under ammonia chemical ionization (CI) conditions triarylpropenones undergo hydrogen radical-induced olefinic bond reduction on metal surfaces, resulting in [M + 2H + NH4]+ ions corresponding to the ammonium adduct of the saturated ketone. The decomposition of the adduct ions, [MNH4]+ and [M + 2H + NH4]+, was studied by collision-induced dissociation mass-analysed ion kinetic energy (CID-MIKE) spectroscopy in a reverse geometry instrument. From the CID-MIKE spectra of the [MNH4]+, [M + 2H + NH4]+, [MND4]+ and [M + 2D + ND4]+ ions it is clear that the fragmentation of the adduct ions involves loss of NH3 followed by various cyclization reactions resulting in stable condensed ring systems. Elimination of ArH and ArCHO subsequent to the loss of NH3 and formation of aroyl ion are characteristic decomposition pathways of the [MNH4]+ ions, whereas elimination of ArCH3 and formation of [ArCH2]+ are characteristic of the [M + 2H + NH4]+ ions of these propenones.  相似文献

Tandem mass spectrometry provides information on the dissociation pathways of gas-phase ions by providing a link between product ions and parent ions. However, there exists a distinct possibility that a parent ion does not dissociate directly to the observed product ion, but that the reaction proceeds through unobserved reaction intermediates. This work describes the discovery and kinetic analysis of an unobserved reaction intermediate with a quadrupole ion trap. [a 4−NH3] ions formed from [YGβFL+H] ions dissociate to [(F*YG−NH3)−CO] ions. It is expected, however, from previous results, that [F*YG−NH3] ions should form prior to [(F*YG−NH3)−CO] ions. Double-resonance experiments are used to demonstrate the existence of intermediate [F*YG − NH3] ions. Various kinetic analyses are then performed using traditional collision-induced dissociation kinetics and double-resonance experiments. The phenomenological rates of formation and decay of peptide rearrangement ion dissociation products are determined by curve fitting decay and formation data generated with the kinetics experiments. The data generated predict an observable level of the intermediate in a time frame accessible but previously not monitored. By examining early product-ion formation, the intermediate ions, [F*YG−NH3]+, are observed.  相似文献

A detailed energy-resolved study of the fragmentation of CH2?CHCH(OH)CD2CD3 (1-d5) has been carried out using metastable ion studies and charge exchange techniques, combined with collision-induced dissociation studies to establish the structures of fragment ions. At low internal energies (metastable ions) the molecular ion of 1-d5 rearranges to the 3-pentanone structure and fragments by loss of C2H5 or C2D5 leading to the acyl structure, [CH3CH2C?O]+ or [CD3CD2C?O]+, for the fragment ion. However, with increasing internal energy of the molecular ion this rearrangement process decreases rapidly in importance and loss of C2D5 by direct cleavage, leading to [CH2?CHCH?OH]+, becomes the dominant fragmentation reaction. As a result the [C3H5O]+ ion seen in the electron impact mass spectrum of 1-penten-3-ol has predominantly the protonated acrolein structure.  相似文献

The chemistry of glycerol subjected to a high-energy particle beam was explored by studying the mass spectral fragmentation characteristics of gas-phase protonated glycerol and its oligomers by using tandem mass spectrometry. Both unimolecular metastable and collision-induced dissociation reactions were studied. Collision activation of protonated glycerol results in elimiation of H2O and CH3OH molecules. The resulting ions undergo further fragmentations. The origin of several fragment ions was established by obtaining their product and precursor ion spectra. Corresponding data for the deuterated analogs support those results. The structures of the fragment ions of compositions [C3H5O]+, [C2H5O]+, [C2H4O]+. and [C2H3O]+ derived from protonated glycerol were also identified. Proton-bound glycerol oligomers fragment principally via loss of neutral glycerol molecules. Dissociation of mixed clusters of glycerol and deuterated glycerol displays normal secondary isotope effects.  相似文献

The loss of X· radical from [M + Cu + X]+ ions (copper reduction) has been studied by the so called in-source fragmentation at higher cone voltage (M = crown ether molecule, X = counter ion, ClO4, NO3, Cl). The loss of X· has been found to be affected by the presence/lack of aromatic ring poor/rich in electrons. Namely, the loss of X· occurs with lower efficiency for the [NO2-B15C5 + Cu + X]+ ions than for the [B15C5 + Cu + X]+ ions, where NO2-B15C5 = 3-nitro-benzo-15-crown-5, B15C5 = benzo-15-crown-5. A reasonable explanation is that Anion-π interactions prevent the loss of X· from the [NO2-B15C5 + Cu + X]+ ions. The presence of the electron-withdrawing NO2 group causes the aromatic ring to be poor in electrons and thus its enhances its interactions with anions. For the ion containing the aromatic ring enriched in electrons, namely [NH2-B15C5 + Cu + ClO4]+ where NH2-B15C5 = 3-amino-benzo-15-crown-5, the opposite situation has been observed. Because of Anion-π repulsion the loss of X· radical proceeds more readily for [NH2-B15C5 + Cu + X]+ than for [B15C5 + Cu + X]+. Iron reduction has also been found to be affected by Anion-π interactions. Namely, the loss of CH3O· radical from the ion [B15C5 + Fe + NO3 + CH3O]+ proceeds more readily than from [NO2B15C5 + Fe + NO3 + CH3O]+.  相似文献

A study was carried out on the fragmentation of 12 protonated O,O-dimethyl O-aryl phosphorothionates by tandem quadrupole mass spectrometry. Some of the studied compounds are used in agriculture as pesticides. Energy-resolved and pressure-resolved experiments were performed on the [M + H]+ ions to investigate the dissociation behavior of the ions with various amounts of internal energy. On collisionally activated dissociation, the [M + H]+ ions decompose to yield the [M + H ? CH3OH]+, (CH3O)2PS+ (m/z 125), and (CH3O)2PO+ (m/z 109) ions as major fragments. The ions [M + H ? CH3OH]+ and (CH3O)2PS+ probably arise from the [M + H]+ ions of the O,O-dimethyl O-aryl phosphorothionates with the proton on the sulfur or on the oxygen of the phenoxy group. The origin of the hydroxy proton of the methanol fragment was in many cases, surprisingly, the phenyl group and not the reagent gas. This was confirmed by using deuterated isobutane, C4D10, as reagent gas in Cl. The fragment ions (CH3O)2PO+ and [ZPhS]+ are the results of thiono-thiolo rearrangement reaction. The precursor ion for the ion (CH3O)2PO+ arises from most compounds upon chemical ionization, whereas the precursor ion for the ion [ZPhS]+ arises only from a few compounds upon chemical ionization. The observed fragments imply that several sites carry the extra proton and that these sites get the proton usually upon ionization. The stability order and some characteristics of three protomers of O,O-dimethyl O-phenyl phosphorothionate were investigated by ab initio calculations at the RHF/3-21G* level of theory.  相似文献

Fragmentation of the γ‐aminobutyric acid molecule (GABA, NH2(CH2)3COOH) following collisions with slow O6+ ions (v≈0.3 a.u.) was studied in the gas phase by a combined experimental and theoretical approach. In the experiments, a multicoincidence detection method was used to deduce the charge state of the GABA molecule before fragmentation. This is essential to unambiguously unravel the different fragmentation pathways. It was found that the molecular cations resulting from the collisions hardly survive the interaction and that the main dissociation channels correspond to formation of NH2CH2+, HCNH+, CH2CH2+, and COOH+ fragments. State‐of‐the‐art quantum chemistry calculations allow different fragmentation mechanisms to be proposed from analysis of the relevant minima and transition states on the computed potential‐energy surface. For example, the weak contribution at [M?18]+, where M is the mass of the parent ion, can be interpreted as resulting from H2O loss that follows molecular folding of the long carbon chain of the amino acid.  相似文献

Per-O-acetylated methyl glycosides of D -xylan-type di- and trisaccharides were studied by mass-analysed ion kinetic energy (MIKE) and collisionally induced dissociation (CID) mass Spectrometry using protonated ammonia and methylamine, respectively, as reaction gases in chemical ionization (CI). The oligosaccharides form abundant cluster ions, [M + NH4]+ or [M + CH3NH3]+, and the main fragmentation of these ions in the MIKE and CID spectra is the cleavage of interglycosidic linkages. Thus, CI (NH3) or CI (CH3NH2) spectra in combination with the MIKE or CID spectra allow the molecular masses, the masses of monosaccharide units and the branching point in oligosaccharides to be established. In the case of disaccharides, it is possible to distinguish the (1 → 2) linkage from the other types of linkages.  相似文献

Soft ambient ionization sources generate reactive species that interact with analyte molecules to form intact molecular ions, which allows rapid, sensitive, and direct identification of the molecular mass. We used a dielectric barrier discharge ionization (DBDI) source with nitrogen at atmospheric pressure to detect alkylated aromatic hydrocarbon isomers (C8H10 or C9H12). Intact molecular ions [M]•+ were detected at 2.4 kVpp, but at increased voltage (3.4 kVpp), [M + N]+ ions were formed, which could be used to differentiate regioisomers by collision-induced dissociation (CID). At 2.4 kVpp, alkylbenzene isomers with different alkyl-substituents could be identified by additional product ions: ethylbenzene and -toluene formed [M-2H]+, isopropylbenzene formed abundant [M-H]+, and propylbenzene formed abundant C7H7+. At an operating voltage of 3.4 kVpp, fragmentation of [M + N]+ by CID led to neutral loss of HCN and CH3CN, which corresponded to steric hindrance for excited state N-atoms approaching the aromatic ring (C-H). The ratio of HCN to CH3N loss (interday relative standard deviation [RSD] < 20%) was distinct for ethylbenzene and ethyltoluene isomers. The greater the number of alkyl-substituents (C-CH3) and the more sterically hindered (meta > para > ortho) the aromatic core, the greater the loss of CH3CN relative to HCN was.  相似文献

The regioselectivity of methyl cation transfer from (CH3)2F+, (CH3)2Cl+ and (CH3)3O+ to 1-phenyl-2-aminopropane was studied by Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance in combination with collision-induced dissociation and neutralization-reionization mass spectrometry of the stable [M + CH3]+ ions formed in a chemical ionization source. The (CH3)2F+ ion transfers a methyl cation to the NH2 group and the phenyl ring with almost equal probability. Predominant CH3+ transfer to the NH2 group is observed for the (CH3)2Cl+ ion whereas the (CH3)3O+ ion reacts almost exclusively at the amino group. The preference for methylation at NH2 is discussed in terms of a lower methyl cation affinity of the phenyl ring than of the amino group and the existence of an energy barrier for methylation of the phenyl moiety.  相似文献

By combining results from a variety of mass spectrometric techniques (metastable ion, collisional activation, collision-induced dissociative ionization, neutralization-reionization spectrometry, 2H, 13C and 18O isotopic labelling and appearance energy measurements) and high-level ab initio molecular orbital calculations, the potential energy surface of the [CH5NO]+ ˙ system has been explored. The calculations show that at least nine stable isomers exist. These include the conventional species [CH3ONH2]+ ˙ and [HO? CH2? NH2]+ ˙, the distonic ions [O? CH2? NH3]+ ˙, [O? NH2? CH3]+ ˙, [CH2? O(H)? NH2]+ ˙, [HO? NH2? CH2]+ ˙, and the ion-dipole complex CH2?NH2+ …? OH˙. Surprisingly the distonic ion [CH2? O? NH3]+ ˙ was found not to be a stable species but to dissociate spontaneously to CH2?O + NH3+ ˙. The most stable isomer is the hydrogen-bridged radical cation [H? C?O …? H …? NH3]+ ˙ which is best viewed as an immonium cation interacting with the formyl dipole. The related species [CH2?O …? H …? NH2]+ ˙, in which an ammonium radical cation interacts with the formaldehyde dipole is also a very stable ion. It is generated by loss of CO from ionized methyl carbamate, H2N? C(?O)? OCH3 and the proposed mechanism involves a 1,4-H shift followed by intramolecular ‘dictation’ and CO extrusion. The [CH2?O …? H …? NH2]+ ˙ product ions fragment exothermically, but via a barrier, to NH4+ ˙ HCO…? and to H3N? C(H)?O+ ˙ H˙. Metastable ions [CH3ONH2]+…? dissociate, via a large barrier, to CH2?O + NH3+ + and to [CH2NH2]+ + OH˙ but not to CH2?O+ ˙ + NH3. The former reaction proceeds via a 1,3-H shift after which dissociation takes place immediately. Loss of OH˙ proceeds formally via a 1,2-CH3 shift to produce excited [O? NH2? CH3]+ ˙, which rearranges to excited [HO? NH2? CH2]+ ˙ via a 1,3-H shift after which dissociation follows.  相似文献

The ion-molecule reactions between [CH3X]+˙ [CH3XH] +, [CH3XCH3]+ ions (X = F, Cl, Br, I) and a number of nucleophiles have been studied by ion cyclotron resonance techniques. Protonation of the nucleophiles is observed to occur from both the molecular ions [CH3]X+˙ and protonated species [CH3XH]+ whereas dimethylhalonium ions [CH3XCH3]+ react principally by methyl cation transfer. A notable exception occurs in methyl iodide where the molecular ions [CH3I]+˙ act both as proton and methyl cation donors, whereas dimethyliodonium ions are found unreactive. The results are discussed with reference to the use of alkyl halides as reagent gases in chemical ionization experiments.  相似文献

In contrast to an earlier report,1 the collisonally induced dissociation of protonated 2-propanol and t-butyl alcohol yields spectra that are indistinguishable from those of the corresponding [C3H7/H2O]+ and [C4H9/H2O]+ ions generated by the (formal) gas phase addition reactions in a high pressure ion source of [s-C3H7]+ and [t-C4H9]+ ions with the n-donor H2O. Similarly, [s-C3H7/CH3OH]+ ions generated by both gas phase protonation of n- and s-propyl methyl ethers and addition reactions of [C3H7]+ to CH3OH display mode-of-generation-independent collisionally induced dissociation characteristics. However, analysis of the unimolecular dissociation (loss of propene) of the [C3H7/CH3OH]+ system, including a number of its deuterium, 13C- and 18O-labelled isotopomers, supports the idea that prior to unimolecular dissociation, covalently bound [C3H7- O(H)CH3]+ ions intercovert with hydrogen-bridged adduct ions, analogous to the behaviour of the distonic ethene-, propene- and ketene-H2O radical cations.  相似文献

In order to establish the mechanism of CO loss occurring during metastable decomposition of protonated 1-indanone, fragmentations of monocyclic [C9H9O]+ isomers have been studied. These ions of known structure were prepared by CI protonation and fragmentation of the corresponding acids chlorides. It is demonstrated that the wide component of the [MH? CO]+ metastable peak induced by protonated 1-indanone fragmentation is the result of fragmentation of the [C6H5CH2CH2CO]+ isomer ion.  相似文献

The thermospray mass spectrometry (TSP/MS) of five N-methylcarbamates is presented. This is the first time that ions other than [M + H]+ and [M + NH4]+ have been reported using positive TSP/MS. Protonation of ROCONHCH3 yields the [CH3NH2CO] ion, with formation of the ion–molecule adduct [ROCONHCH3 · CH3NH2CO] through elimination of CO from [CH3NH2CO], and the adduct [M + 75], [ROCONHCH3 · OCONH2CH3], is also obtained.  相似文献
