We investigate the behaviour of a bistable absorber in a two-directional ring cavity. A hierarchy derived from the Maxwell and Bloch equations is used throughout without any truncation. In the stationary situation we recover the solution found by Bonifacio and Lugiato in the unidirectional ring cavity. Next, we consider the dynamics of the system when it is close to steady state. We find both the self-pulsing instability predicted by the afore-mentioned authors for the field propagating in the same direction of the injected signal, and a new instability originated by the counterpropagating field. Numerical results are given in the mean-field limit L1,T1.  相似文献

Equations governing the behaviour of a single mode high-Q ring cavity are obtained for a coherent driving field (detuned to both cavity and atoms) and inhomogeneously broadened atomic transitions using a Hamiltonian approach. We find the region of bistability and critical points in the homogeneous broadening case. Numerical results including inhomogeneous broadening show that bistability is obtained more readily by detuning both the atomic transition and the cavity mode relative to the driving field.  相似文献

A multiwavelength actively mode-locked fiber ring laser that utilises a single semiconductor optical amplifier as both a gain and mode-locking element is presented. It is verified experimentally that the number of mode-locked wavelengths may be maximised by compensating for the anomalous intra-cavity dispersion. This is achieved through the inclusion of an appropriate length of normal dispersion fiber in the laser cavity. Using this technique, the number of wavelengths simultaneously mode-locked at 10 GHz was increased from 2 to 5.  相似文献

A new, simple and efficient L-band erbium-doped fiber (EDF) laser with polarization-maintaining ring cavity is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The laser offers the unique advantage of being a polarization-maintaining lasing, which meets the requirement of external electronic-optical intensity modulation for DWDM communication and interferometric fiber sensors. Theory has been established. Experimental results are given to show that the laser has long-term stability over a couple of hours with 35 dB signal-to-noise ratio at 1598.644 nm and tunable from 1572.167 to 1608.480 nm.  相似文献

In this work, we experimentally demonstrate an efficient cw second harmonic generation (SHG) at 780 nm wavelength with a first-order type-I phase matching periodically poled KTP (PPKTP) crystal in a ring cavity, the wavelength corresponds to the D2 line of Rb atom transition. The fundamental laser used is a grating-stabilized external cavity diode laser and its frequency is precisely locked to Rb atom transition frequency using the saturated absorption technique. About maximal 6.9 mW UV radiation of 390 nm with a net conversion of 9.5% at an input mode-matched power of 73 mW is generated with one crystal, and about maximal 8.8 mW with the net conversion of 12% is obtained with another crystal; the powers in stable operation are about 1.7 mW and 3.4 mW, respectively. This is, to our best knowledge, the first SHG experiment at 780 nm wavelength with the PPKTP in a ring cavity.  相似文献

We investigate the properties of the ponderomotive squeezing and the entanglements in a ring cavity with two vibrational mirrors. In the part about squeezing, we find that the squeezing spectrum of the transmitted field shows a distinct feature when the two vibrational mirrors have different frequencies. We also study the effects of some external parameters such as the temperature and the laser power on the degree of squeezing. In the part concerning entanglement, we study the entanglements between the cavity field and one of the vibrational mirrors, and that between the two vibrational mirrors,with emphasis focusing on the robustness of entanglements with respect to the environment temperature.  相似文献

A scheme to observe Electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in an optomechanical system is proposed in the current paper. We treat a narrowband squeezed field as the weak probe field. We find that EIT dips exist in the output field. Moreover, the dependence of the EIT dips on the effective cavity detuning Δ and the input power ζ are explored. We show that the width of the EIT dips can be controlled by the parameters ξ and the detuning Δ.  相似文献

A passive subring cavity that served as mode selector was inserted into a semiconductor fiber ring laser to generate a stable lasing spectrum. A narrow linewidth of less than 10 kHz with unidirectional operation in the composite cavity ring laser was achieved. Tuning over a range of 20 nm was obtained by application of 0-30 V dc to a piezoelectric transducer in the subring cavity.  相似文献

A stability analysis in the good-cavity and mean-field limits, of two-photon optical bistability arising when two beams at different frequencies interact with a nonlinear medium in a ring cavity, is presented. Practical schemes for creation of multi-mode squeezed (entangled) states of atomic ensembles located inside a high-Q ring cavity are discussed. It is assumed that the cavity is composed of two degenerate mutually counter-propagating modes that can simultaneously couple to the atomic ensembles with the same coupling strengths. The ensembles are composed of ultra-cold atoms which are modeled as four-level systems driven by two laser fields, both co-propagating with one of the cavity directions. We illustrate a procedure that constructs multi-mode squeezed states from the vacuum by a unitary transformation associated with the collective dynamics of the atomic ensembles subjected to driving lasers of a suitably adjusted amplitudes and phases. The lasers pulses together with the cavity dissipation prepare the collective modes in a desired stationary squeezed state.  相似文献
