介绍一套新体系的物理实验教材

介绍由中国科学技术大学霍剑青、吴泳华等主编，高等教育出版社出版的《大学物理实验》教材，该教材分为四册，对应新实验体系的四级物理实验。     

Higgs physics: Theory

The theoretical aspects of the physics of Higgs bosons are reviewed focussing on the elements that are relevant for the production and detection at present hadron colliders. After briefly summarizing the basics of electroweak symmetry breaking in the Standard Model, the Higgs production at the LHC and at the Tevatron is discussed, with some focus on the main production mechanism, the gluon?Cgluon fusion process, and the main Higgs decay modes and the experimental detection channels are discussed. Then the case of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model is briefly surveyed. In the last section, the prospects for determining the fundamental properties of the Higgs particles are reviewed, once they have been experimentally observed.     

Spectrum of b-baryons:color hyperfine interaction vs. experiment

I discuss several recent highly accurate theoretical predictions for masses of baryons containing the b quark, especially Ωb (ssb) very recently reported by CDF. I also point out an approximate effective supersymmetry between heavy quark baryons and mesons and provide predictions for the magnetic moments of Λc and Λb. Proper treatment of the color-magnetic hyperfine interaction in QCD is crucial for obtaining these results.

Sir Karl Popper and his philosophy of physics

The eminent mathematical physicist Sir Hermann Bondi once said: There is no more to science than its method, and there is no more to its method than Popper has said. Indeed, many regard Sir Karl Raimund Popper the greatest philosopher of science in our generation. Much of what Popper has said refers to physics, but physicists, generally speaking, have little knowledge of what he has said. True, Popper's philosophy of science and, in particular, his realistic interpretation of quantum mechanics deviates considerably from the generally accepted doctrine. But as Popper, rightly I think, points out, it is precisely the proliferation of divergent theories which promotes the growth of scientific knowledge; it would be a danger for physics if physicists were dogmatically tied to a single theory or would not test their theory against alternatives. It is for this purpose that, on the occasion of the nonagenarian celebration of Popper's birthday, the present essay has been written.     

Output from an atom laser: theory vs. experiment

Atom lasers based on rf-outcoupling can be described by a set of coupled generalized Gross–Pitaevskii equations (GPE). We compare the theoretical predictions obtained by numerically integrating the time-dependent GPE of an effective one-dimensional model with recently measured experimental data for the F=2 and F=1 states of Rb-87. We conclude that the output of a rf atom-laser can be described by this model in a satisfactory way. Oscillating neutrinos: theory vs experiment

Possible hints on neutrino masses are reviewed. They come from the deficits in the solar as well as atmospheric neutrinos and from need of a significant amount of hot component in the dark matter of the universe. The role of three generation mixing in simultaneously solving the solar and atmospheric neutrino problem is discussed. All the three hints can be reconciled if three neutrinos are almost degenerate. Models for neutrino masses and mixing implied by the above hints are briefly discussed.

由于许多大学物理实验教材对A类不确定的估算方法不够明了透彻,给大学物理实验教学带来不便,也影响了学生的数据处理,本文对大学物理实验中A类不确定度的估算进行了探究.     

Breakdown of an intermediate plateau in the magnetization process of anisotropic spin-1 Heisenberg dimer: Theory vs. experiment

The magnetization process of the spin-1 Heisenberg dimer model with the uniaxial or biaxial single-ion anisotropy is particularly investigated in connection with recent experimental high-field measurements performed on the single-crystal sample of the homodinuclear nickel(II) compound [Ni₂(Medpt)₂(μ-ox)(H₂O)₂](ClO₄)₂·2H₂O (Medpt=methyl-bis(3-aminopropyl)amine). The results obtained from the exact numerical diagonalization indicate a striking magnetization process with a marked spatial dependence on the applied magnetic field for arbitrary but finite single-ion anisotropy. It is demonstrated that the field range, which corresponds to an intermediate magnetization plateau emerging at a half of the saturation magnetization, basically depends on a single-ion anisotropy strength as well as a spatial orientation of the applied field. The breakdown of the intermediate magnetization plateau is discussed at length in relation to the single-ion anisotropy strength.

探究式学习在物理实验课的应用

通过探究式实验教学与传统教学模式的比较,论证了探究式实验教学的必要性,并指出了探究性物理实验教学的实施空间和时间应该具有相对的开放性,即突破狭义的课堂教学的封闭环境,建构起以教科书为载体、以教室为实验空间的小环境和以所有媒介为补充、以日常生活乃至宏观世界为大环境的高中物理实验教学体系,同时本文还举例说明了探究式教学实施的途径.
