A series of nanocomposites consisted of poly(butylene succinate) (PBSu) and fumed silica nanoparticles (SiO2) were prepared using the in situ polymerization technique. The amount of SiO2 used directly affected the final molecular weight of the prepared polyesters. At a low SiO2 content (0.5 wt.%) the molecular weight obtained was higher compared to neat PBSu, however at higher concentrations this was gradually reduced. The melting point of the matrix remained unaffected by the addition of the nanoparticles, in contrast to the crystallinity, which was dramatically reduced at higher SiO2 contents. This was mainly due to the extended branching and cross-linking reactions that took place between the carboxylic end groups of PBSu and the surface silanols of the nanoparticles. Thermal degradation of the PBSu/SiO2 nanocomposites was studied by determining theirs mass loss during heating. From the variations of the activation energies, calculated from the thermogravimetric curves, it was clear that nanocomposites containing 1 wt.% SiO2 content had a higher activation energy compared to pure PBSu, indicating that the addition of the nanoparticles could slightly increase the thermal stability of the matrix. However, in PBSu/SiO2 nanocomposite containing 5 wt.% SiO2 the activation energy was smaller. This phenomenon should be attributed to the existence of extended branched and cross-linked macromolecules, which reduce the thermal stability of PBSu, rather than to the addition of fumed silica nanoparticles.  相似文献

Nanocomposites of poly(l-lactic acid) (PLLA) containing 2.5 wt% of fumed silica nanoparticles (SiO2) and organically modified montmorillonite (OMMT) were prepared by solved evaporation method. From SEM micrographs it was observed that both nanoparticles were well dispersed into PLLA matrix. All nanocomposites exhibited higher mechanical properties compared to neat PLLA, except elongation at break, indicating that nanoparticles can act as efficient reinforcing agents. Nanoparticles affect, also, the thermal properties of PLLA and especially the crystallization rate, which in all nanocomposites is faster than that of neat PLLA. From the thermogravimetric curves it can be seen that neat PLLA nanocomposites present a relatively better thermostability than PLLA, and this was also verified from the calculation of activation energy (E). From the variation of E with increasing degree of conversion it was found that PLLA/nanocomposites decomposition takes place with a complex reaction mechanism, with the participation of two different mechanisms. The combination of models, nth order and nth order with autocatalysis (Fn–Cn), for PLLA and PLLA/OMMT as well as the combination of Fn–Fn for PLLA/SiO2 give the better results. For the PLLA/OMMT the values of the E for both mechanisms are higher than neat PLLA. For the PLLA/SiO2 nanocomposite the value of the E is higher than the corresponding value for PLLA, for the first area of mass loss, while the E of the second mechanism has a lower value.  相似文献

In the present study, a series of iPP/SiO2 nanocomposites, containing 1, 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10 and 15 wt% SiO2 nanoparticles, were prepared by melt mixing in a twin screw co-rotating extruder. Poly(propylene-g-maleic anhydride) copolymer (PP-g-MA) containing 0.6 wt% maleic anhydride content was added to all nanocomposites at three different concentrations, 1, 2.5 and 5 wt%, based on silica content. Mechanical properties such as tensile strength at break and Young’s modulus were found to increase and to be mainly affected by the content of silica nanoparticles as well as by the copolymer content. For the tensile strength at break as well as for yield point, a maximum was observed, corresponding to the samples containing 2.5-5 wt% SiO2. At higher concentrations, large nanosilica agglomerates are formed that have as a result a decrease in tensile strength. Young’s modulus increases almost linearly on the addition of SiO2, and takes values up to 60% higher than that of neat iPP. Higher concentrations of PP-g-MA resulted in a further enhancement of mechanical properties due to silica agglomerate reduction. This finding was verified from SEM and TEM micrographs. Evidently the surface silica hydroxyl groups of SiO2 nanoparticles react with maleic anhydride groups of PP-g-MA and lead to a finer dispersion of individual SiO2 nanoparticles in the iPP matrix. The enhanced adhesion in the interface of the two materials, as a result of the mentioned reaction, has been studied and proved by using several equations. The increased Vicat point of all nanocomposites, by increasing the PP-g-MA content, can also be mentioned as a positive effect.  相似文献

In the present study poly(propylene sebacate) (PPSeb) nanocomposites containing 2 wt% of fumed silica nanoparticles (SiO2) or multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), or montmorillonite (MMT) were prepared by in situ polymerization. The thermal degradation of nanocomposites was studied using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). It was found that the addition of MWCNTs and MMT enhances the thermal stability of the polymer, while SiO2 nanoparticles do not affect it. From the variation of the activation energy (E) with increasing degree of conversion it was found that the decomposition of nanocomposites proceeded with a complex reaction mechanism with the participation of at least two different steps. To evaluate the thermal decomposition mechanisms and mainly the effect of nanoparticles on the thermal decomposition of PPSeb, TGA/FTIR and a combination of TG-gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (TG/GC–MS) were used. From mass ions detection of the formed decomposition compounds it was found that the decomposition of PPSeb and its nanocomposites, takes place mainly through β-hydrogen bond scission and, secondarily, through α-hydrogen bond scission. The main decomposition products were aldehydes, alcohols, allyl, diallyl, and carboxylic acids.  相似文献

Water barrier properties and tribological performance (hardness and wear behavior) of new hybrid nanocomposites under dry and wet conditions were investigated. The new fabricated hybrid nanocomposite laminates consist of epoxy reinforced with woven and nonwoven tissue glass fibers and two different types of nanoparticles, silica (SiO2) and carbon black nanoparticles (C). These nanoparticles were incorporated into epoxy resin as a single nanoparticle (either SiO2 or C) or combining SiO2 and C nanoparticles simultaneously with different weight fractions. The results showed that addition of carbon nanoparticles with 0.5 and 1 wt% resulted in maximum reduction in water uptake by 28.55% and 21.66%, respectively, as compared with neat glass fiber reinforced epoxy composites. Addition of all studied types and contents of nanoparticles improves hardness in dry and wet conditions over unfilled fiber composites. Under dry conditions, maximum reduction of 47.26% in weight loss was obtained with specimens containing 1 wt% carbon nanoparticles; however, in wet conditions, weight loss was reduced by 17.525% for specimens containing 0.5 wt% carbon nanoparticles as compared with unfilled fiber composites. Diffusion coefficients for different types of the hybrid nanocomposites were computed using Fickian and Langmuir models of diffusion. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Ultrasonically assisted in situ emulsion polymerization was used to prepare electrically conducting copolymer poly(aniline‐co‐p‐phenylenediamine) [poly(Ani‐co‐pPD)] and silica (SiO2) nancomposites. This approach can solve problems in the dispersion and stabilization of SiO2 nanoparticles in the copolymer matrix. It was found that the aggregation of SiO2 nanoparticles could be reduced under ultrasonic irradiation. Scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) confirmed that the resulting poly(Ani‐co‐pPD)/SiO2 nanocomposite particles were spherical in shape, in which SiO2 nanoparticles were well dispersed. The comonomer molecules were absorbed on the surface of SiO2 particles and then polymerized to form core–shell nanocomposite. The incorporation of SiO2 in the nanocomposite was supported by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR). UV‐visible spectra of the diluted colloid dispersion of nanocomposite particles were similar to those of the neat copolymer. Conductivity of nanocomposites was higher than the value obtained for the neat copolymer. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this study, the synthesis of ZnO/SiO2 nanocomposites using bamboo leaf ash (BLA) and tested their photocatalytic activity for rhodamine B decolorization have been conducted. The nanocomposites were prepared by the sol–gel reaction of zinc acetate dihydrate, which was used as a zinc oxide precursor, with silica gel obtained from the caustic extraction of BLA. The effect of the Zn content (5, 10, and 20 wt%) on the physicochemical characteristics and photocatalytic activity of the nanocomposites was investigated. The results of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, gas sorption, and transmission electron microscopy characterization confirmed the mesoporous structure of the composites containing nanoflower-like ZnO (wurtzite) nanoparticles of 10–30 nm in size dispersed on the silica support. Further, the nanocomposites were confirmed to be composed of ZnO/SiO2 by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis. Meanwhile, diffuse-reflectance UV–visible spectrophotometry analysis of the nanocomposites revealed band gap energies of 3.38–3.39 eV. Of the tested nanocomposites, that containing 10 wt% Zn exhibited the highest decolorization efficiency (99%) and fastest decolorization rate. In addition, the degradation efficiencies were not reduced significantly after five repeated runs, demonstrating the reusability of the nanocomposite catalysts. Therefore, the ZnO/SiO2 nanocomposite obtained from BLA is a promising reusable photocatalyst for the degradation of dye-polluted water.  相似文献

The study of high density polyethylene (HDPE)/ethylene‐vinyl acetate (EVA)/and organically‐modified montmorillonite (OMT) nanocomposites prepared by melt intercalation followed by exposure to gamma‐rays have been carried out. The morphology and properties of the nanocomposites were studied using X‐ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and cone calorimetry. The purpose of the study focuses on the influence of gamma irradiation on the morphology, thermal stability and flammability properties of the nanocomposites. XRD studies and TEM images verified that the ordered intercalated nanomorphology of the nanocomposites was not disturbed by gamma irradiation. TGA data showed that the nano‐dispersion of clay throughout the polymer inhibited the irradiation degradation of HDPE/EVA blend, which led to the nanocomposites exhibiting superior irradiation‐resistant properties than that of the pure blend. Cone calorimetry results indicated that the improvement in heat release rate (HRR) for irradiated HDPE/EVA blend was suppressed efficiently when clay was present. Increasing clay loading from 2 to 10% was beneficial by improving the flammability properties of the nanocomposites, but promoted a rapid increase in the sub‐peak HRR at high irradiation dose level. We have successfully developed a simple method for preparing silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) using UV irradiation of AgNO3 in the interlamellar space of a montmorillonite (MMT) without any reducing agent or heat treatment. The properties of Ag/MMT nanocomposites were studied as a function of the UV irradiation period. UV irradiation disintegrated the Ag NPs into smaller size until a relatively stable size and size distribution were achieved. The results from UV–vis spectroscopy show that particles size of Ag NPs decrease with the increase of irradiation period. The crystalline structure of Ag NPs was determined by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD).  相似文献

In this work, thermoplastic polyurethane‐filled montmorillonite‐polypyrrole (TPU/Mt‐PPy) was prepared through melt mixing process for using in electromagnetic shielding applications. The effect of conducting filler content and type, sample thickness, and X‐band frequency range on the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) and EMI attenuation mechanism was investigated. A comparative study of electrical and microwave absorption properties of TPU/Mt‐PPy nanocomposites and TPU/PPy blends was also reported. The total EMI SE average and electrical conductivity of all Mt‐PPy.Cl or Mt‐PPy.DBSA nanocomposites are higher than those found for TPU/PPy.Cl and TPU/PPy.DBSA blends. This behavior was attributed to the higher aspect ratio and better dispersion of the nanostructured Mt‐PPy when compared with neat PPy. Moreover, the presence of Mt‐PPy into TPU matrix increases absorption loss (SEA) mechanism, contributing to increase EMI SE. The total EMI SE values of nanocomposites containing 30 wt% of Mt‐PPy.DBSA with 2 and 5 mm thickness were approximately 16.6 and approximately 36.5 dB, respectively, corresponding to the total EMI of 98% (75% by absorption) and 99.9% (88% by absorption). These results highlight that the nanocomposites studied are promising materials for electromagnetic shielding applications.  相似文献

Structure, thermal properties, and influence of layered double hydroxide (LDH) fillers on photocrosslinking behavior of high‐density polyethylene (HDPE)/LDH nanocomposites have been studied in the present article. The X‐ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy analysis demonstrate that the completely exfoliated HDPE/LDH nanocomposites can be obtained by controlling the organomodified LDH loading via melt‐intercalation. The data from the thermogravimetric analysis show that the HDPE/LDH nanocomposites have much higher thermal stability than HDPE sample. When the 50% weight loss was selected as a comparison point, the decomposition temperature of HDPE/LDH sample with 5 wt % LDH loading is ~40 °C higher than that of HDPE sample. The effects of UV‐irradiation on the HDPE/LDH nanocomposites show that the photoinitiated crosslinking can destroy the completely exfoliated structure to form the partially exfoliated structure, which decreased the thermal stability of the nanocomposites. However, the thermal stability of photocrosslinked samples can increase with increasing the UV‐irradiation time. The effect of LDH loading on the gel content of UV‐irradiated nanocomposites shows that the LDH materials can greatly absorb the UV irradiation and thus decrease the crosslinking efficiency. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This work focuses on satisfactorily toughening and reinforcing poly(lactic acid)/thermoplastic polyurethane (PLA/TPU) blend with low TPU content (10 wt%) using appropriate amounts of hydrophobic silica nanoparticles (SiO2) via simple melt mixing. Both thermodynamic prediction and transmission electron microscopy micrographs demonstrate that most SiO2 nanoparticles distribute at interfaces between the PLA and TPU phases. This improves interfacial adhesion between the phases, which is attributed to good bonding strength between the PLA and SiO2 via hydrophobic interaction and formation of hydrogen bonds between the TPU and SiO2. The PLA/TPU (90/10) ternary blend nanocomposite with 2 wt% SiO2 exhibits obviously high impact strength (about 5.0 and 12.6 times that of the corresponding blend and PLA, respectively) and higher tensile strength than the blend and even the PLA. Crazing is the main reason for improved impact toughnesses of the blend nanocomposites. This work provides a simple and effective strategy to endow PLA/elastomer blends with optimum strength–toughness balance by adding appropriate amounts of nanoparticles.  相似文献

Polyaniline (PAni)-coated reduced multiwall carbon nanotubes (PRMWNTs) and carbon black (CB)-filled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) composites (PRMWNTs/CB/HDPE) were prepared through a melt mixing method. Oxidized MWNTs (OMWNTs) were prepared by treating pristine multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) with an acid mixture (HNO3:H2SO4), and PAni-coated OMWNTs (POMWNTs) were synthesized via in-situ polymerization of aniline monomer in the presence of OMWNTs. POMWNTs were further reduced using hydrazine monohydrate to obtain the PRMWNTs. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) confirmed the formation of PRMWNTs. PRMWNTs showed significantly improved thermal stability and electrical conductivity comparing to POMWNTs. The positive temperature coefficient (PTC) behavior of PRMWNTs/CB/HDPE composites revealed enhanced PTC intensity and electrical conductivity at room temperature compared to POMWNTs/CB/HDPE composites. The PRMWNTs-10/CB/HDPE composite showed high peak resistivity (301.99 MΩ-cm) and low room temperature resistivity compared to the POMWNTs/CB/HDPE composite, and thus showed the highest PTC intensity value of 6.693 as well as very excellent cyclic stability.  相似文献

Silica (SiO2) nanoparticles and silica/calcium carbonate (SiO2/CaCO3) core–shell nanocomposites were prepared by sol–gel technique as fillers for papermaking application. Semi-burned rice straw ash (SBRSA), as waste material, was used to prepare the targeted fillers. Preparation of SiO2 nanoparticles and SiO2/CaCO3 nanocomposites was carried out using Na2SiO3 solution that was prepared from SBRSA and CaCO3 nanoparticles of 30–70 nm. The targeted SiO2/CaCO3 nanocomposites were prepared with different molar ratio of SiO2:CaCO3 1:15, 1:10 and 1:5. The percentage of silica increased from 62.5% to 82.9% by thermal treatment of SBRSA at 800 °C for 2 h. The prepared SiO2 nanoparticles and SiO2/CaCO3 nanocomposites were characterized by using XRD, XRF, TEM, FT-IR and Zeta potential. The results indicate that a pure semi-crystalline SiO2 nanoparticle and semi-crystalline shell of SiO2 coated CaCO3 core particles were produced. The work extended also to investigate the effect of the prepared fillers on physical, mechanical and optical properties of paper.Application of the prepared SiO2 nanoparticles and SiO2/CaCO3 nanocomposites improved the optical properties of paper (brightness, whiteness and opacity) but it slightly reduced the mechanical properties when compared to commercial precipitated CaCO3 (PCC) filler. The results showed that the retention of SiO2 nano-particles was highly increased. The retention of the prepared nanocomposites increased along with increasing of SiO2:CaCO3 molar ratio.  相似文献

The interface between nanoparticles and the polymer matrix, which dominates the electrical properties of nanocomposites, can effectively improve the DC breakdown and suppress space charge accumulation in nanocomposites. To research the interface characteristics, XLPE/SiC nanocomposites with concentrations of 1 wt%, 3 wt% and 5 wt% were prepared. The DC breakdown, dielectric properties and space charge behavior were examined using pulsed electro-acoustic (PEA) equipment and a dielectric analyzer. The test results show that the nanocomposites with concentrations of 1 wt% and 3 wt% have higher DC breakdown field strength than neat XLPE. In contrast, there is a lower DC breakdown strength at a concentration of 5 wt%, possibly due to the agglomeration of nanoparticles. Nanoparticle doping increases the real and imaginary permittivities over those of neat XLPE. Furthermore, with increasing concentration, a larger increase in the permittivity amplitude was observed. Based on the space charge behavior, all nanocomposites could suppress space charge accumulation, but the nanocomposite with a concentration of 1 wt% exhibited the best effect. Meanwhile, heterocharge accumulation near electrodes was observed in neat XLPE and the nanocomposite with a concentration of 5 wt%. In contrast, homocharge accumulation near electrodes was observed in the nanocomposite with a concentration of 3 wt%. This phenomenon may be due to different amounts of shallow traps in nanocomposites with different concentrations, which might lead to differing electron or hole mobility.  相似文献

Photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange (MO) as a model of an organic pollution was accomplished with magnetic and porous TiO2/ZnO/Fe3O4/PANI and ZnO/Fe3O4/PANI nanocomposites under visible light irradiation. The structures of nanocomposites were characterized by various techniques including UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy, XRD, SEM, EDS, BET and TGA. Optical absorption investigations show two λmax at 450 and 590 nm for TiO2/ZnO/Fe3O4/PANI nanocomposites respectively possessing optical band gaps about 2.75 and 2.1 eV smaller than that of the neat TiO2 and ZnO nanoparticles. Due to these optical absorptions, the nanocomposites can be considered promising candidates as visible light photocatalysts to produce more electron‐hole pairs. The degradation of MO, extremely increased using polymeric photocatalysts and decolorization in the presence of visible light achieved up to 90% in less than 20 min in comparison with the neat nanoparticles (about 10%). All these advantages promise a bright future for these composites as useful photocatalysts. The degradation efficiency of MO using stable nanocomposites was still over 70% after ten times reusing. The highest decolorizing efficiencies were achieved with 0.75 g L?1 of catalyst and 10 mg L?1 of MO at natural pH under visible light irradiation in less than 20 min.  相似文献

Three nanocomposite films based on aramid (poly (ether‐amide), PEA) and multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) were prepared via solution casting method using 2,7‐bis(4‐aminophenoxy)naphthalene (4) and isophthalic acid (5) containing various amounts of MWCNT (2, 3, 5 wt.%). To comprehensively analyze the properties of the cast films as well as the monomers, different techniques were employed, namely FT‐IR, 1H NMR, X‐ray diffraction, and field emission scanning electron microscopy. Also, thermal and tensile properties of PEA (6) and nanocomposite films were investigated using thermogravimetric analysis and mechanical analysis, respectively. The morphology, thermal, and mechanical properties of nanocomposite films approved that MWCNT had well dispersion in the PEA matrix and showed a synergistic effect on improving all of the investigated properties. Based on the thermogravimetric analysis results, employing MWCNT caused to increase in the char yields from 61 (in the neat PEA) to 66 (in the PEA /MWCNT nanocomposite 5 wt.%) under the nitrogen atmosphere. In comparison to the pristine PEA (426°C), the temperature at 10 losses mass % (T10) was increased from 530°C to 576°C, with 2 to 5 wt.% of MWCNT. Mechanical analysis revealed that the tensile strength and initial modulus were improved by incorporating MWCNT into PEA (81.70–93.40 MPa and 2.10–2.22 GPa, respectively). Electrical conductivity of the PEA/MWCNT nanocomposites was displayed maximum value in the 5 wt.%, showing satisfactory value in many application areas. The X‐ray diffraction technique was employed to study the crystalline structure of the prepared nanocomposite films as well as PEA. In addition, the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy study demonstrated that the prepared nanocomposites had significant impedance improvement in the presence of MWCNTs.  相似文献

Epoxy–clay nanocomposites have been prepared with an organically modified montmorillonite. The epoxy network was based on diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) cured with diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM). The stoichiometry DGEBA–DDM was varied, the molar ratio of amine hydrogen/epoxy groups, r, ranged from 0.85 to 1.15. The influence of stoichiometry on curing and properties of the nanocomposites was studied using differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis and X-ray diffraction. All nanocomposites had intercalated clay structures. The clays accelerated the curing reaction whose rate was also increased when increasing r. The heat of reaction, −ΔH (J/g epoxy), increased as r increased, reaching a constant value for r ≥ 1. In the presence of clays −ΔH was lower than in the neat DGEBA–DDM. The glass transition temperature (T g) of the neat epoxy thermosets reached a maximum at r = 1; however, the nanocomposites showed the T g maximum at 0.9 < r < 1. The presence of clay lowered the T g for r > 0.94 and raised T g for r ≤ 0.85. The elastic modulus of neat epoxy thermosets reached a maximum in the rubber state and a minimum in the glassy state at r = 1. The nanocomposites showed similar behavior, but the maximum and the minimum values of the elastic modulus were reached at stoichiometry r < 1. The comparison of the properties of neat epoxy with those of the nanocomposites varying the stoichiometry indicates that the clay itself induces stoichiometric changes in the system.  相似文献
