Let D be an integral domain. A saturated multiplicative subset S of D is an almost splitting set if, for each 0≠dD, there exists a positive integer n=n(d) such that dn=st for some sS and tD which is v-coprime to each element of S. We show that every upper to zero in D[X] contains a primary element if and only if D?{0} is an almost splitting set in D[X], if and only if D is a UMT-domain and Cl(D[X]) is torsion. We also prove that D[X] is an almost GCD-domain if and only if D is an almost GCD-domain and Cl(D[X]) is torsion. Using this result, we construct an integral domain D such that Cl(D) is torsion, but Cl(D[X]) is not torsion.  相似文献

The disconnection number d(X) is the least number of points in a connected topological graph X such that removal of d(X) points will disconnect X (Nadler, 1993 [6]). Let Dn denote the set of all homeomorphism classes of topological graphs with disconnection number n. The main result characterizes the members of Dn+1 in terms of four possible operations on members of Dn. In addition, if X and Y are topological graphs and X is a subspace of Y with no endpoints, then d(X)?d(Y) and Y obtains from X with exactly d(Y)−d(X) operations. Some upper and lower bounds on the size of Dn are discussed.The algorithm of the main result has been implemented to construct the classes Dn for n?8, to estimate the size of D9, and to obtain information on certain subclasses such as non-planar graphs (n?9) and regular graphs (n?10).  相似文献

Let K be a field and t?0. Denote by Bm(t,K) the supremum of the number of roots in K?, counted with multiplicities, that can have a non-zero polynomial in K[x] with at most t+1 monomial terms. We prove, using an unified approach based on Vandermonde determinants, that Bm(t,L)?t2Bm(t,K) for any local field L with a non-archimedean valuation v:LR∪{∞} such that vZ≠0|≡0 and residue field K, and that Bm(t,K)?(t2t+1)(pf−1) for any finite extension K/Qp with residual class degree f and ramification index e, assuming that p>t+e. For any finite extension K/Qp, for p odd, we also show the lower bound Bm(t,K)?(2t−1)(pf−1), which gives the sharp estimation Bm(2,K)=3(pf−1) for trinomials when p>2+e.  相似文献

Let D be an integral domain such that Int(D) ≠ K[X] where K is the quotient field of D. There is no known example of such a D so that Int(D) has finite elasticity. If E is a finite nonempty subset of D, then it is known that Int(E, D) = {f(X) ∈ K[X] | f(e) ∈ D for all eE} is not atomic. In this note, we restrict the notion of elasticity so that it is applicable to nonatomic domains. For each real number r ≥ 1, we produce a ring of integer-valued polynomials with restricted elasticity r. We further show that if D is a unique factorization domain and E is finite with |E| > 1, then the restricted elasticity of Int(E, D) is infinite. Let k be a field of characteristic zero and f(t),g(t) be polynomials in k[t]. For a plane curve parameterized by x=f(t),y=g(t), Abhyankar developed the notion of Taylor resultant (Mathematical Surveys and Monographs, Vol. 35, American Mathematical Society, Providence, RI, 1990) which enables one to find its singularities without knowing its defining polynomial. This concept was generalized as D-resultant by Yu and Van den Essen (Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 125(3) (1997) 689), which works over an arbitrary field. In this paper, we extend this to a curve in affine n-space parameterized by x1=f1(t),…,xn=fn(t) over an arbitrary ground field k, where f1,…,fnk[t]. This approach compares to the usual approach of computing the ideal of the curve first. It provides an efficient algorithm of computing the singularities of such parametric curves using Gröbner bases. Computational examples worked out by symbolic computation packages are included.  相似文献

It is shown that every Euclidean manifold M has the following property for any m?1: If f:XY is a perfect surjection between finite-dimensional metric spaces, then the mapping space C(X,M) with the source limitation topology contains a dense Gδ-subset of maps g such that dimBm(g)?mdimf+dimY−(m−1)dimM. Here, Bm(g)={(y,z)∈Y×M||f−1(y)∩g−1(z)|?m}. The existence of residual sets of finite-to-one maps into product of manifolds and spaces having disjoint disks properties is also obtained.  相似文献

The present paper considers the existence of continuous roots of algebraic equations with coefficients being continuous functions defined on compact Hausdorff spaces. For a compact Hausdorff space X, C(X) denotes the Banach algebra of all continuous complex-valued functions on X with the sup norm ∥⋅. The algebra C(X) is said to be algebraically closed if each monic algebraic equation with C(X) coefficients has a root in C(X). First we study a topological characterization of a first-countable compact (connected) Hausdorff space X such that C(X) is algebraically closed. The result has been obtained by Countryman Jr, Hatori-Miura and Miura-Niijima and we provide a simple proof for metrizable spaces.Also we consider continuous approximate roots of the equation znf=0 with respect to z, where fC(X), and provide a topological characterization of compact Hausdorff space X with dimX?1 such that the above equation has an approximate root in C(X) for each fC(X), in terms of the first ?ech cohomology of X.  相似文献

Let f:AB be a ring homomorphism and let J be an ideal of B. In this paper, we study the amalgamation of A with B along J with respect to f (denoted by A?fJ), a construction that provides a general frame for studying the amalgamated duplication of a ring along an ideal, introduced and studied by D’Anna and Fontana in 2007, and other classical constructions (such as the A+XB[X], the A+XB?X? and the D+M constructions). In particular, we completely describe the prime spectrum of the amalgamated duplication and we give bounds for its Krull dimension.  相似文献

For a compact Hausdorff space X, C(X) denotes the algebra of all complex-valued continuous functions on X. For a positive integer n, we say that C(X) is n-th root closed if, for each fC(X), there exists gC(X) such that f=gn. It is shown that, for each integer m?2, there exists a compact Hausdorff space Xm such that C(Xm) is m-th root closed, but not n-th root closed for each integer n relatively prime to m. This answers a question posed by Countryman Jr. [R.S. Countryman Jr., On the characterization of compact Hausdorff X for which C(X) is algebraically closed, Pacific J. Abstract

Recall that an integral domain R is said to be a non-D-ring if there exists a non-constant polynomial f (X) in R[X] (called a uv-polynomial) such that f (a) is a unit of R for every a in R. In this note we generalize this notion to commutative rings (that are not necessarily integral domains) as follows: for a positive integer n, we say that R is an n-non-D-ring if there exists a polynomial f of degree n in R[X] such that f (a) is a unit of R for every a in R. We then investigate the properties of this notion in di?erent contexts of commutative rings.  相似文献

We define the notion of a hypercube structure on a functor between two commutative Picard categories which generalizes the notion of a cube structure on a Gm-torsor over an abelian scheme. We prove that the determinant functor of a relative scheme X/S of relative dimension n is canonically endowed with a (n+2)-cube structure. We use this result to define the intersection bundle IX/S(L1,…,Ln+1) of n+1 line bundles on X/S and to construct an additive structure on the functor IX/S:PIC(X/S)n+1PIC(S). Then, we construct the resultant of n+1 sections of n+1 line bundles on X, and the discriminant of a section of a line bundle on X. Finally we study the relationship between the cube structures on the determinant functor and on the discriminant functor, and we use it to prove a polarization formula for the discriminant functor.  相似文献

We study the structure of length three polynomial automorphisms of R[X,Y] when R is a UFD. These results are used to prove that if SLm(R[X1,X2,…,Xn])=Em(R[X1,X2,…,Xn]) for all n≥0 and for all m≥3 then all length three polynomial automorphisms of R[X,Y] are stably tame.  相似文献

Let f,gZ[X] be monic polynomials of degree n and let C,DMn(Z) be the corresponding companion matrices. We find necessary and sufficient conditions for the subalgebra ZC,D〉 to be a sublattice of finite index in the full integral lattice Mn(Z), in which case we compute the exact value of this index in terms of the resultant of f and g. We prove the inverse closedness of certain approximation algebras based on a quasi-Banach algebra X using two general theorems on the inverse closedness of subspaces of quasi-Banach algebras. In the first theorem commutative algebras are considered while the second theorem can be applied to arbitrary X and to subspaces of X which can be obtained by a general K-method of interpolation between X and an inversely closed subspace Y of X having certain properties. As application we present some inversely closed subalgebras of C(T) and C[−1,1]. In particular, we generalize Wiener's theorem, i.e., we show that for many subalgebras S of l1(Z), the property {ck(f)}∈S (ck(f) being the Fourier coefficients of f) implies the same property for 1/f if fC(T) vanishes nowhere on T.  相似文献

We consider a family of slightly extended version of Raynaud’s surfaces X over the field of positive characteristic with Mumford-Szpiro type polarizations Z, which have Kodaira non-vanishing H1(X,Zn)≠0 for all 1≤nN with some N≥1. The surfaces are at least normal but smooth under a special condition. We also give a fairly large family of non-Mumford-Szpiro type polarizations Za,b with Kodaira non-vanishing.  相似文献

Let K be a complete ultrametric algebraically closed field. We investigate several properties of sequences (an)nN in a disk d(0,R) with regards to bounded analytic functions in that disk: sequences of uniqueness (when f(an)=0∀nN implies f=0), identity sequences (when limn→+∞f(an)=0 implies f=0) and analytic boundaries (when lim supn→∞|f(an)|=‖f‖). Particularly, we show that identity sequences and analytic boundary sequences are two equivalent properties. For certain sequences, sequences of uniqueness and identity sequences are two equivalent properties. A connection with Blaschke sequences is made. Most of the properties shown on analytic functions have continuation to meromorphic functions.  相似文献

Given a tree T on n vertices, there is an associated ideal I   of R[x1,…,xn]R[x1,,xn] generated by all paths of a fixed length ? of T  . We classify all trees for which R/IR/I is Cohen–Macaulay, and we show that an ideal I whose generators correspond to any collection of subtrees of T satisfies the König property. Since the edge ideal of a simplicial tree has this form, this generalizes a result of Faridi. Moreover, every square-free monomial ideal can be represented (non-uniquely) as a subtree ideal of a graph, so this construction provides a new combinatorial tool for studying square-free monomial ideals.  相似文献
