Combined analytical procedures consisting of wet digestion step followed by instrumental determination – differential pulse cathodic stripping voltammetry (DPCSV) or electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS) – as well as a direct analysis method – slurry sampling ETAAS – for the determination of Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni and Pb in milk, cheese and chocolate are described and compared. Wet digestion using a mixture of HNO3-HClO4-H2O2 is proposed for complete matrix decomposition prior to trace analyte determinati on by DPCSV or ETAAS. A mixture of HNO3-H2O2 is used for slurry preparation. Optimal instrumental parameters for trace analyte measurements are presented. The reliability of the procedures has been verified by analyzing standard reference materials. Results obtained are in good agreement with the certified values and the relative standard deviations (for these results) are in the range 5–10% for wet digestion DPCSV or ETAAS and 3–9% for slurry sampling ETAAS in the range of 2 μgċg−1 (Cd) to 12 μgċg−1 (Fe). The comparative determination of barium, copper, iron, lead and zinc in tea leaf samples by two atomic spectrometric techniques is reported. At first, slurry sampling electrothermal atomization atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS) was applied. The results of Ba and Pb determination were calculated using the method of standard additions, and results of Cu, Fe and Zn from the calibration graphs based on aqueous standards. These results were compared with the results obtained after microwave-assisted wet (nitric+hydrochloric+hydrofluoric acids) digestion in closed vessels followed by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometric (ICP-AES) determination with the calibration by means of aqueous standards. The exception was lead determined after a wet digestion procedure by ETAAS. The accuracy of the studied methods was checked by the use of the certified reference material Tea GBW-07605. The recoveries of the analytes varied in the range from 91 to 99% for slurry sampling ETAAS, and from 92.5 to 102% for liquid sampling ICP-AES. The advantages of slurry sampling ETAAS method are simplicity of sample preparation and very good sensitivity. Slurry sampling ETAAS method is relatively fast but if several elements must be determined in one sample, the time of the whole microwave-assisted digestion procedure and ICP-AES determination will be shorter. However, worse detection limits of ICP-AES must also be taken into the consideration in a case of some analytes.  相似文献

The comparative determination of lead in plant samples by two atomic spectrometric techniques is reported. At first, slurry sampling electrothermal atomisation atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS) was applied. The results obtained were compared with those found after a wet digestion procedure by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS) or ETAAS. The accuracy of the studied methods was checked using a certified reference material (CL???1 CRM, Cabbage Leaves). The recovery of lead was 90% for slurry sampling ETAAS, and 86.6% for liquid sampling ETAAS. The advantages of the slurry sampling ETAAS method are the simplicity of sample preparation and very good sensitivity.  相似文献

The use of Ir, W and Zr-coated graphite tubes, as permanent chemical modifiers, was studied for the determination of chromium in human scalp hair by ETAAS using the slurry sampling technique. The use of Mg(NO3)2 and Pd, as aqueous chemical modifiers, was also investigated and compared to the use of the permanent chemical modifiers. Scalp hair samples were pulverized using a Zr vibrational ball mill, (mean particle diameter of 0.8 μm) and suspended in ultrapure water. The lowest limit of detection, 44.5 μg kg–1,was achieved for the use of W-coated graphite tubes. The repeatability of the overall procedures (slurry preparation and ETAAS determination) were 15.7, 14.5 and 16.7% for W- and Zr-coated graphite tubes and Mg(NO3)2, respectively. The methods were applied to several reference materials, CRM 397 (human hair), DOLT-1 (dogfish liver) and DORM-1 (dogfish muscle), and the results obtained were in agreement to the certified values. Finally, the methods were applied to several human scalp hair samples from healthy adults. Received: 3 April 1997 / Revised: 12 May 1997 / Accepted: 15 May 1997  相似文献

The anion exchange properties of polyaniline for Cd, Cu, Pb and Sb in potassium iodide were studied. The analytes converted into anionic complexes by KI (0.03–0.96 mol/L) in HCl were adsorbed on polyaniline and eluted with HNO3. The optimum conditions for adsorption and elution were determined. Quantitative recoveries were obtained for Cd, Cu and Pb, whereas, the recoveries for Sb were about 75%. This separation procedure was used with subsequent ICP-AES determination for Cd, Cu, and Pb in NIST-coal fly ash (1633b) and a sea plant with an R.S.D of 5% (n = 5). A dynamic ultrasound-assisted extraction step is proposed for the quantitative extraction of Cd and Pb from plant leaves prior to determination by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS). Beech leaves (a certified reference material—CRM 100—where the target analytes were not certified) were used for optimizing the extraction step by a multivariate approach. The samples (0.25 g) were subjected to dynamic ultrasound-assisted extraction with dilute nitric acid as extractant. The method was validated with a certified reference material BCR-062 (olive leaves) where both Cd and Pb are certified. The good agreement between the certified values and those found using the proposed method demonstrates its usefulness. The repeatability was 2.0 and 0.9% and the within-laboratory reproducibility was 7.1 and 2.8% for Cd and Pb, respectively. The precision of the method, together with its efficiency, rapidity, low cost and environmental acceptability makes it a good alternative for the determination of trace metals from plant material.  相似文献

A comparison between open microwave digestion and digestion by conventional heating was carried out for the determination of Cd, Cr, Cu, and Pb in two algae matrices using transverse heated electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS). A SRM GBW 08504 cabbage was also analysed. These matrices were digested with HNO3, using a quartz vessel for microwave digestion and PFA vessel for digestion by conventional heating. Cd, Cu and Cr were determined without any modifier, while magnesium nitrate and ammonium phosphate mixed modifier was used for Pb. Results obtained by both the procedures were in good agreement with each other at 95% confidence level, and for SRM GBW 08504 cabbage the values agree well with the certified values. The limits of detection obtained were 0.0004, 0.060, 0.065 and 0.054 mg/kg for Cd, Cr, Cu, and Pb, respectively, using the microwave digestion process. The RSD for Cd was 10–15% and for the other elements 5–10%.  相似文献

A method is proposed for the determination of Pb, Cd and Tl in cements by ETAAS. The samples are suspended in a medium containing 10% v/v ethanol and 1% v/v both conc. nitric and hydrofluoric acids and are directly introduced into the electrothermal atomizer. The drying stage is performed by programming a 400 °C temperature, a ramp time of 5 s and a hold time of 30 s on the power supply to the atomizer. No ashing step is used. Atomization is carried out at 2100, 1800 and 1700 °C for Pb, Cd and Tl, respectively. For Cd determination, ammonium dihydrogen phosphate is added to the suspension medium. No modifier other than hydrofluoric acid is required for the Pb and Tl determination. It is shown that the results obtained by using direct calibration with aqueous standards for five commercial samples agree with those found by means of the standard additions method. Ultrasonic slurry sampling electrothermal vaporization dynamic reaction cell inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (USS–ETV–DRC–ICP–MS) for the determination of Cr, Cd and Pb in several plastic samples, using NH4NO3 as the modifier, is described. The influences of the instrumental operating conditions and the slurry preparation technique on the ion signals are investigated. A reduction in the intensity of the background at signals corresponding to chromium masses (arising from matrix elements) was achieved by using NH3 as the reaction cell gas in the DRC. The method was applied to determine Cr, Cd and Pb in two polystyrene (PS) samples and a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sample using two different calibration methods, namely standard addition and isotope dilution. The results were in good agreement with those for digested samples analyzed by ultrasonic nebulization DRC–ICP–MS. The precision between sample replicates was better than 17% with the USS–ETV–DRC–ICP–MS method. The method detection limits, estimated from standard addition curves, were about 6–9, 1–2 and 8–11 ng g−1 for Cr, Cd and Pb, respectively, in the original plastic samples.  相似文献

Application of microwave assisted extraction for the decomposition and dissolution of plant samples for trace metal determination by ICP-AES was examined. Dried onion, leaves of spinach beet and three reference materials CTA-OTL-1, CTA-VTL-2 and CL-1 were analyzed. Water, EDTA and hydrochloric acid (0.01, 0.10 and 1.0 M, respectively) were used as leaching solutions. The extraction efficiency was investigated by comparison of the results with those obtained after microwave wet digestion. HCl was found to be very suitable for quantitative extraction of B, Ba, Cd, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, Sr and Zn from the samples. For reference materials, the measured concentrations are well consistent with the certified values. The use of EDTA led to a complete extraction of B, Cd, Ni, Pb, Sr and Zn. Water was found to be a good leaching solution for boron. For extraction with HCl and EDTA, the RSD values for the concentrations measured were below 8% for most of the elements. An analytical method for Cd analysis in solid samples which combines the ultrasonic slurry formation with cold vapour generation and atomic absorption spectrometry is described. The samples are suspended in HCl and sonicated until homogeneous and reduced particle size slurry formation. Several aspects were studied: acidity of the medium, sonication time, and slurry formation in different matrices. The procedure described permits the use of direct calibration, with KCN addition as masking agent of interfering ions (Cu, Pb, Ni and Zn) present in the environmental matrices. Supernatant analysis of these last samples experimentally shown that preparation of the suspension with 6 mol l(-1) HCl concentration led to quantitative extraction of Cd. Biological materials analysis needed the use of the standard addition calibration method due to the high matrix effect observed. Supernatant analysis in biological samples does not give a total Cd recovery for all of them. The detection limits observed for Cd were 0.05 and 0.2 mug l(-1) for supernatant and slurry analysis respectively in environmental samples, while in biological samples were 0.2 and 0.6 mug l(-1) for supernatant and slurry analysis, respectively. In all case the better precision was obtained for supernatant analysis (3-6%) than slurry analysis (6-12%). The results obtained by analysing different reference materials (sewage sludge, city waste incineration, Antarctic krill and human hair) showed good agreement with the certified value confirming the validity of such a method for Cd determination instead to wet digestion procedures.  相似文献

Summary A new voltammetric procedure has been developed for the determination of toxic heavy metals in annual growth rings. The method is based on a wet digestion of minute quantities of wood material of 10–25 mg with an acid mixture of HNO3 and HClO4 in a quartz cup and the subsequent simultaneous determination of Cd, Pb, Cu and Zn by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) at the hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE). The accuracy of the method has been proved by using electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry as an independent procedure. The problems of the contamination by ubiquitous heavy metals during the wet digestion were investigated and their influence on the results was effectively diminished. Losses of the studied metals have not been observed. The high sensitivity of the method enables the determination of the toxic metals Pb and Cd in the analyte of the wet digestion with a relative standard deviation of less than 20% in the low level range 0.1–4 g/l.The potentialities of the method have been shown in the determination of Cd, Pb, Cu and Zn in cores of oak (Quercus petraea) from Königstein (Taunus, FRG). The high sensitivity made it possible to analyze individual growth rings and thus to avoid damages on trees using an excessive quantity of material. In two samples taken as example a distinct increase of the concentration of Cd and Pb during the last decade indicates metal pollution of the region by atmospheric precipitates.

A new and efficient Hg(II) back-elution method for the desorption of Cd, Cu, and Pb from Chelex-100 chelating resin was developed. A smaller eluent volume and shorter elution time can be achieved using an Hg(II) containing eluent rather than pure nitric acid. Owing to the remaining Hg(II) ion in the effluent, a mercury thin-film electrode is formed in-situ during the anodic stripping voltammetric determination without any further addition of Hg(II). The results indicate that all the analytes in seawater matrix can be completely adsorbed on Chelex-100 resin from the sample at pH 6.5, and subsequently eluted from the resin with an acid solution of 5 × 10–4 mol/L Hg2+ + 1 mol/L HClO4. The detection limits obtained from the differential-pulse anodic (μg L–1 to ng L–1) stripping voltammetry are at sub-ppb to ppt (μg L–1 to ng L–1) levels permitting to determine Cd, Cu and Pb traces in seawater. The analytical reliability was confirmed by the analysis of the certified reference material CASS-II (open ocean seawater). A simple method is described for the determination of Cd, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn in nails by using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) or electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS). Prior to analysis, 10-20 mg of nail samples were accurately weighed into (15 mL) conical tubes. Then, 1 mL of 25% (w/v) tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH) solution was added to the samples, incubated at room temperature overnight and then further diluted to 10 mL with 1% (v/v) HNO(3). After that, samples were directly analyzed. Rhodium was used as internal standard for ICP-MS analysis. Method detection limits (3 s, n=20) were 0.1, 3.0, 1.0, 4.5, 1.5, 5.0 ng g(-1) for Cd, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn, respectively for ICP-MS, and 24, 26, 30, 143, 130 and 1000 ng g(-1), respectively for ETAAS. The key issue addressed here is the elimination of the acid digestion prior to analysis. Moreover, with the use of the proposed method there is a considerable improvement in the sample throughput comparing to the traditional methods using microwave-assisted acid sample digestion prior to analysis. For validation purposes, six ordinary nail samples were solubilized and then directly analyzed by ICP-MS and ETAAS, with no statistical difference between the two techniques at 95% level on applying the t-test.  相似文献

Trace element impurities in high-purity antimony were determined employing three different methods for the removal of matrix; on Dowex 50WX 8 by adsorption from 0.1 mol/L HF and elution with 4 mol/L HNO3; on Chelex-100 resin (in NH4 + form) Bi, Cd, Co, Cu, and Pb were separated in the presence of tartaric acid at a pH of 9.0 ± 0.1 with subsequent elution with 2 mol/L HCl; these determinations were carried out by GFAAS. The separation of trace impurities from Sb by volatilization of the matrix from H2SO4 and HBr medium was also investigated. ICP-MS was used for the determination in these cases. All the three procedures showed that the removal of the antimony matrix was nearly quantitative (> 99.99%). The recoveries of trace elements were found to be > 95%. The relative standard deviations were in the range 2–7%. Standard addition calibrations were used. The levels of process blanks indicate that with careful optimization, the volatilization procedure coupled with ICP-QMS can be used for trace impurity characterization of 6N+ Sb. A mechanised system for on-line slurry food sample digestion was developed and an off-line cobalt determination was performed. The stabilised slurry sample was introduced into an air carrier stream until reaching the digestion coils located inside a household microwave oven. Software written in Visual Basic 3.0 was developed to permit the transport of the slurry samples and the programming of the microwave oven and also the control of the mineralization valve. The proposed system was optimized for determination of cobalt in certified samples such as mussels, bovine liver and fish and also uncertified fish samples. The digestion parameters were established as 3 mol l-1 HNO3 for mussels, 3 mol l-1 HNO3 plus 0.16% v/v H2O2 for bovine liver and 12 mol l-1 HNO3 for fish employing maximum power for 5 min of microwave actuation. In the subsequent spectrophotometric method for the catalytic determination of cobalt, the Tiron and hydrogen peroxide concentrations were 1.8 x 10(-3) and 3.0 x 10(-4) mol l-1, respectively, and the sample residence time was 300 s as determined by an optimisation process. The proposed method features a linear range from 10 to 200 ng l-1 Co (r > 0.996) with detection and quantification limits of 1.7 and 5.5 ng l-1 Co, respectively. The precision, expressed as RSD, was 2.4% (n = 12) for repeatability and 5.2% (n = 10) for reproducibility and the accuracy of the proposed method was assessed by using certified samples and an alternative technique (ETAAS).  相似文献

The use of rice husks as an alternative adsorbent in an on-line preconcentration system for Cd (II) and Pb (II) determination by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS) is described. The potential of rice husks as a natural adsorbent was evaluated as a material modified with 0.75 mol l−1 NaOH solution and in the unmodified form. For this task, several techniques such as spectroscopy and thermogravimetry were used for elucidation of possible functional groups responsible for the uptake of Cd (II) and Pb (II). Furthermore, based on adsorption studies and adsorption isotherms applied to the Langmüir model, it was possible to verify that modified rice husks present a higher adsorption capacity for both metals. After establishing this material as a promising natural adsorbent, it was used for on-line preconcentration of Cd (II) and Pb (II) metals. The multivariate optimisation of chemical and flow variables was performed by using a full factorial design (24) including the following factors: preconcentration time, preconcentration flow rate, concentration and volume of eluent. The optimum pH values used for on-line preconcentration were taken from prior univariate experiments. Under optimised conditions for Cd (II) determination (4 min of preconcentration at a 6 ml min−1 preconcentration flow rate, in which comprises 24 ml of preconcentration volume, 200 μl elution volume and 1.0 mol l−1 HNO3 solution as eluent), the system achieved a detection limit of 1.14 μg l−1 and an enrichment factor of 72.4. Similar conditions were used for Pb (II) determination (4 min of preconcentration, 6 ml min−1 preconcentration flow rate, 300 μl elution volume and 1.0 mol l−1 HNO3 solution as eluent) from which a detection limit of 14.1 μg l−1 and enrichment factor of 46.0 were achieved. Also, rice husks have been shown to be a homogeneous and stable adsorbent in which more than 100 preconcentration/elution cycles provide a relative standard deviation (RSD) of less than 6.0% on the analytical signal. The satisfactory accuracy of the method developed was obtained by using spiked water samples (mineral water and lake water) and spiked red wine samples. These values were confirmed by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS). The certified reference material [pig kidney (CRM 186)] and the reference material [beech leaves (CRM 100)] were also used.  相似文献
