A series of thermally stable fluoranthenopyracylene oligomers with extended pi conjugation were studied by in situ ESR-UV/Vis/NIR spectroelectrochemistry with respect to their application in devices such as organic light-emitting diodes and field-effect transistors. The oligomers are both soluble in o-dichlorobenzene and form thin films by evaporation in the temperature range of 300-500 degrees C in vacuum. Their electrochemical behavior was studied in reduction (n doping) and oxidation (p doping) under standard voltammetric and thin-layer conditions. The HOMO and LUMO energies and the band gaps of all compounds under study were estimated from both electrochemical and UV/Vis/NIR spectroscopic data. The fluorene-type oligomers A(2)-A(6) and B(2) bearing flexible alkyl chains exhibit both reversible multistep reductions and oxidations. The spectroelectrochemistry indicates substantial differences in delocalization of the positive and negative charges in these ladder-type oligomers. The formation of doubly charged sigma dimers was observed for the first time for both the radical anion and radical cation of the same molecule (B(1)). The redox behavior of the oligomers was studied in the solid state and in solution.  相似文献

The electronic structure of polyanions of sterically encumbered triisopropylsilyl‐substituted linear and cyclic oligo(phenyleneethynylene)s ( M onomer, T rimer, P entamer, and Tr iangle) is investigated by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), electron nuclear double resonance (ENDOR), and UV/Vis–near‐infrared (NIR) spectroscopies, cyclic voltammetry, and theoretical calculations (DFT). Increasing anion orders are generated sequentially in vacuo at room temperature by chemical reaction with potassium metal up to the pentaanion. The relevance of these compounds acting as electron reservoirs is thus demonstrated. Even‐order anions are EPR silent, whereas the odd species exhibit different signatures, which are identified after comparison of the measured hyperfine couplings by ENDOR spectroscopy with those predicted by DFT calculations. With increasing size of the oligomers the electron spin density is first distributed over the backbone carbon atoms for the monoanions, and then further localized at the outer phenyl rings for the trianion species. Examination of the UV/Vis‐NIR spectra indicates that the monoanions ( T.? , P.? ) exhibit two transitions in the Vis‐NIR region, whereas a strong absorption in the IR region is solely observed for higher reduced states. Electronic transitions of the neutral monoanions and trianions are redshifted with increasing oligomer size, whereas for a given oligomer a blueshift is observed upon increasing the charge, which suggests a localization of the spin density.  相似文献

The redox and optical properties of various well defined polymer and copolymer films containing pyrrole or thiophene units were studied. The in situ ESR/UV‐Vis‐NIR spectroelectrochemistry was applied to investigate polymers and copolymers deposited both electrochemically or by a special chemical procedure using adhesion promoter onto the optically transparent indium‐tin‐oxide (ITO) electrodes. The spectroelectrochemical responses of chemically and electrochemically prepared polythiophenes on ITO were compared and the electronic structures of both polymers found to be similar. In situ ESR/UV‐Vis‐NIR voltammetric studies on electrochemically prepared copolymers containing pyrrole units and various N,N′‐ethylene‐bis(salicylidenimine) (salen) transition metal complexes indicate the presence of both polysalen and polypyrrole redox active centers in the copolymer.  相似文献

Molecular organic radicals have been intensively studied in the last decades, due to their interesting optical, magnetic and redox properties. Here we report the synthesis and characterisation of persistent organic radicals from one-electron oxidation of redox-active azines (RAAs), composed of two guanidinyl or related groups. By connecting two different groups together, asymmetric compounds result. In this way a series of compounds with varying redox potential is obtained that could be oxidised reversibly to the mono- and the dicationic charge states. The accessible redox states were fully determined by chemical redox reactions. The standard Gibbs free energy change for disproportionation of the radical monocation into the dication and the neutral molecule in solution, estimated from cyclovoltammetric measurements, varies between 43 and 71 kJ mol−1. While the neutral RAAs absorb predominately UV light, the radical monocations display strong absorptions covering almost the entire visible region and extending for some compounds into the NIR region. A detailed analysis of this highly reversible electrochromism is presented, and the fast switching characteristics are demonstrated in an electrochromic test device.  相似文献

The Cu-catalyzed alkyne-azide 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition variant provides a highly efficient entry to conjugated triazolyl-substituted (oligo)phenothiazine organosilicon derivatives with luminescence and reversible redox characteristics. Furthermore, by in-situ co-condensation synthesis several representative mesoporous MCM-41 type silica hybrid materials with embedded (oligo)phenothiazines are prepared and characterized with respect to their structural and electronic properties. The hybrid materials also can be oxidized to covalently bound embedded radical cations, which are identified by their UV/Vis absorption signature and EPR signals.  相似文献

The first examples of β–β directly linked, acetylene‐bridged, and butadiyne‐bridged 5,15‐diazaporphyrin dimers have been prepared by palladium‐catalyzed coupling reactions of nickel(II) and copper(II) complexes of 3‐bromo‐10,20‐dimesityl‐5,15‐diazaporphyrin (mesityl=2,4,6‐trimethylphenyl). The effects of the linking modes and meso‐nitrogen atoms on the structural, optical, electrochemical, and magnetic properties of the distributed π systems were investigated by using X‐ray crystallography, UV/Vis absorption spectroscopy, DFT calculations, cyclic voltammetry, and ESR spectroscopy. Both the electronic and steric effects of the meso‐nitrogen atoms play an important role in the highly coplanar geometry of the directly linked dimers. The direct β–β linkage produces enhanced π conjugation and electron‐spin coupling between the two diazaporphyrin units.  相似文献

The synthesis of N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC)–cyclic (alkyl)(amino) carbene (CAAC) heterodimers is presented. As the free carbenes do not react together in solution, the synthetic approach involves the addition of a free NHC to a cyclic iminium salt, which results in the formation of the protonated heterodimer. Subsequent deprotonation leads to the isolation of the corresponding mixed Wanzlick dimers. One‐ and two‐electron oxidations of these triazaolefins result in the formation of stable cationic radicals and bis(cations), respectively, which have been isolated and fully characterized. Cyclic voltammetry, UV/Vis spectroscopy, spin density, and DFT calculations suggest that these heterodimers feature complementary electronic properties to tetrathiafulvalenes (TTFs).  相似文献

Model structures of 1,3,5‐triarylbenzenes with a substituted benzene core linked to thienyl or 3,4‐ethylenedioxythienyl (EDOT) terminal groups are studied by electrochemical and in situ ESR/UV/Vis/NIR spectroelectrochemical techniques. Oxidative polymerization of the monomers results in C? C coupling of the thiophene moieties in the 5‐position, forming dimeric structures with bithiophene linkers as the first step. Both the doubly charged protonated dimer and the new dimer formed after proton release are studied in detail for 2,4,6‐tris[2‐(3,4‐ethylenedioxythienyl)]‐1‐methoxybenzene. Quite high stability of the doubly charged σ dimer formed on oxidation with unusual redox behavior at the electrode is observed. Density functional calculations of the molecular structure as well as spectroscopic and electronic properties of charged states in 1,3,5‐triarylbenzene derivatives in the monomeric, dimeric, and oligomeric form are presented. The complex spectroelectrochemical response of a thin solid film formed on the electrode surface upon potentiodynamic polymerization indicates the existence of different charge states of oligomeric structures within the solid matrix.  相似文献

A new homologous series of alpha,alpha'-bis(diphenylamino)-capped oligothiophenes, prepared by a palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction of stannylated 2-diphenylaminothiophenes with 2-mono- or 2,5-dibromothiophenes and their homologues, was studied by in situ ESR/UV-vis/NIR spectroelectrochemistry. In general, the oxidation potentials of these oligothiophenes were found to be proportional to the inverse number of thiophene units. However, the potential slope of the first oxidation is completely different from that of higher oxidation steps. Trication radicals were identified by electron spin resonance (ESR) for higher thiophene homologues in addition to monocation radicals (polarons). According to the ESR hyperfine structures, the unpaired electron is delocalized in the conjugated system. In contrast to the parent alpha,alpha'-bis(diphenylamino)-capped oligothiophenes, the UV-vis/NIR absorption maxima of the oxidized species strongly depend on the number of thiophene units. Spin-restricted and spin-unrestricted Kohn-Sham density functional calculations were used to explain and to understand these properties. Absorption wavelength and intensities were calculated by the time-dependent density functional response theory. Unrestricted density functional calculations of oligothiophene dications (bipolarons) with five or more thiophene rings result in spin-broken structures which may be considered as two-polaron biradicals (polaron pairs).  相似文献

Anion-responsive pyrrole-based linear receptor oligomers were newly synthesized and their anion-driven dynamic conformation changes were investigated. Phenylene-bridged dimers and a tetramer of dipyrrolyldiketone boron complexes as π-conjugated acyclic anion receptors formed anion-driven helical structures in the solid and solution states. In fact, single-crystal X-ray analyses of the receptor-anion complexes exhibited various helical structures, such as [1+1]- and [1+2]-type single helices and a [2+2]-type double helix according to the lengths of oligomers and the existence of terminal aryl substituents. Anion-binding modes and behaviors of the oligomers in solution state were also examined by (1)H NMR and UV/Vis spectra along with ESI-TOF MS. Differences in the binding modes were observed in the solid and solution states. The oligomers showed augmented anion-binding constants and anion-tunable electronic and optical properties in comparison with the monomer receptor. A negative cooperative effect in the tetramer was observed in the second anion binding of the [1+2]-type single helix due to electrostatic repulsion between two anions captured in the helix. Further, an anion-template coupling reaction from the linear dimer provided a receptor macrocycle, which was obtained as a Cl(-) complex with distinct electronic and optical properties. The macrocycle exhibited extremely high anion-binding constants (>10(10) m(-1) in CH(2)Cl(2)) through multiple hydrogen bonding.  相似文献

Total spin-state energy splittings are calculated for mono- and dications of the formula {[Re]-Cn-[Re]}z+ where [Re] = eta5-(C5Me5)Re(NO)(PPh3). Cn is an even-numbered carbon chain with n ranging from 4 to 20, and z is 1 or 2. These complexes are experimentally known, and their potential role as molecular electronic devices initiated this work. We have considered the different total spin states monocation/doublet, monocation/quartet, dication/singlet, and dication/triplet. Data obtained for two density functionals BP86 and B3LYP were compared to verify the internal consistency of the results. In both ionization states, the low-spin state is the ground state, but the spin-state splittings decrease as the chain gets longer. For the dications, the splitting reaches a nearly constant value of about 10 kJ/mol with BP86 and about 4 kJ/mol with B3LYP when there are at least 14 carbon atoms in the chain, whereas for the monocations, no constant value appears to be reached asymptotically, not even if 20 carbon atoms are in the chain. For monocations, the splittings range from 138 kJ/mol (n = 4) to 68 kJ/mol (n = 20) with BP86 and from 134 kJ/mol (n = 4) to 73 kJ/mol (n = 20) with B3LYP and are thus considerably higher than those of the dications. The spin-state splittings are qualitatively mirrored by the energy splitting between the highest-occupied molecular orbital with beta spin (HOMObeta) and the lowest-unoccupied molecular orbital with alpha spin (LUMOalpha) as obtained in the low-spin state. Furthermore, the HOMOalpha-LUMOalpha gaps decrease as the carbon chain lengthens. In addition, the local distribution of the ?z expectation value is analyzed for the monocation/doublet, the monocation/quartet, and the dication/triplet state using a modified L?wdin partitioning scheme. In the monocation/doublet and the dication/triplet state, the electron spin is distributed mainly on the metal centers and slightly delocalized onto the carbon chain. In the monocation/quartet state for chain lengths of more than 8 carbon atoms, the electron spin is mainly localized on selected atoms of the chain and not on the metal centers. In all cases, the spin delocalization onto the chain increases as the chain gets longer.  相似文献

Ab initio molecular dynamics (MD) is used to investigate NO reaction processes on the (001) surface of CaO. A novel path is proposed for the first steps of nitrogen oxides reactivity catalyzed by the CaO surface. The mechanism consists of the formation of anionic dimers, adsorbing on the surface cations, at the expense of oxidized NO species adsorbed on surface anions. The complete charge-transfer process takes place in two steps, producing first monovalent anionic dimers (NO)2- and, later on, divalent anionic dimers (NO)2(2-). These redox processes cause spin quenching and are observed in the short time scale of the ab initio MD simulation at 300 K. The results presented provide a rationalization of a recent electron spin resonance (ESR) investigation indicating that the spectroscopy is silent to most of the nitrogen oxide species adsorbed on CaO powders, despite deposition of paramagnetic NO molecules at room temperature.  相似文献

The intramolecular and long-range ferromagnetic coupling between p-phenylenediamine radical cations in head-to-tail coupled oligo(1, 4-phenyleneethynylene)s and oligo(1,4-phenylenvinylene)s between neighbors and next-nearest neighbors is described. UV/vis/near-IR experiments show that the radical cations are localized in the pendant p-phenylenediamine units of the conjugated oligomers. The ESR spectra of these oligo(1,4-phenyleneethynylene) and oligo(1, 4-phenylenvinylene) di(radical cation)s are consistent with those of a triplet state. A linear behavior is observed for the doubly integrated ESR intensity of the DeltaM(s) = +/-1 and DeltaM(s) = +/-2 signals with the inverse temperature (I approximately 1/T), consistent with Curie's law. This behavior indicates a triplet ground-state diradical with a large triplet-singlet energy gap or possibly a degeneracy of singlet and triplet states.  相似文献

The role played by the carbonyl group in the antenna system of a naturally occurring photochromic chromene, flindersine (FL), has been experimentally investigated and compared with that of a carbonyl group present in a structurally related unreactive heterocyclic compound, 6(5H)-phenanthridinone (PH). Through stationary and time-resolved absorption and emission techniques, the excited-state relaxation dynamics after UV irradiation were determined for FL and PH. The presence of a carbonyl group in both compounds entails the existence of two close-lying, strongly coupled electronic excited states, having n,pi* and pi,pi* character, respectively. Their coupling can be modulated by a careful choice of the solvent proticity and temperature. Moreover, in the case of strong coupling between the n,pi* and pi,pi* states, we have proved that the relaxation dynamics can involve transitions in which the upper of the coupled states acts as an intermediate for radiationless decay, bypassing the lowest emissive state, whereby the fluorescence quantum yield becomes a function of the excitation wavelength.  相似文献

Complexes of α-Diimines with Pentamethylcyclopentadienylrhodium in Different Oxidation States Cationic complexes [Cp*RhCl(α-diimine)]+ of trivalent rhodium and heterocyclic α-diimines or 1,4-disubstituted 1,4-diazabutadienes were isolated as hexafluorophosphates und subjected to electrochemical studies. Chemical or electrochemical two electron reduction yields intensely coloured and highly reactive neutral complexes Cp*Rh(α-diimine) which are very easily oxidized and which can be reduced further at negative potentials. The electronic structure of these compounds was studied using 1H-NMR and UV/Vis spectroscopy. Comparisons of charge transfer (CT) transition energies with redox potentials suggest very variable geometrical changes between ground and CT excited states.  相似文献

A detailed knowledge of the electronic structure and magnetic and optical properties of hemozoin, the malaria pigment, is essential for the design of effective antimalarial drugs and malarial diagnosis. By employing state‐of‐the‐art electronic structure calculations, we have performed an in‐depth investigation of the malaria pigment. Specifically, molecular bond lengths and spin states of the two FeIII heme centers and their exchange interaction, the UV/Vis absorption spectrum, and the IR vibrational spectra were calculated and compared with available experimental data. Our density functional theory (DFT)‐based calculations predict a singlet ground spin state that stems from an S=5/2 spin state on each of the Fe heme centers with a very weak antiferromagnetic exchange interaction between them. Our theoretical UV/Vis and IR spectra provide explanations for various spectroscopic studies of hemozoin and β‐hematin (a synthetic analogue of hemozoin). A good comparison of calculated and measured properties demonstrates the convincing unveiling of the electronic structure of the malaria pigment. Based on the predicted vibrational spectra, we propose a unique spectral band from the nuclear resonance vibrational spectroscopy (NRVS) results that could be used as a key fingerprint for malarial detection.  相似文献

New bis[N-(2,6-di-t-butyl-1-hydroxyphenyl)salicylideneminato]copper(II) complexes bearing HO and CH3O substituents on the salicyaldehyde moiety were prepared, and their spectroscopic properties, as well as redox reactivity towards PbO2 and PPh3, examined by ESR and UV spectroscopy. In the process of synthesis of HO complexes unlike CH3O the oxidative C-C coupling of coordinated salicylaldimine ligands does not takes place. The powder ESR spectra of CH3O substituted complexes unlike of HO analogues are typical of a triplet state Cu(II) dimers with a half-field forbidden (deltaM = +/- 2) transition and the allowed transitions (AM = +/- 1) dimeric form of the complexes at 300 and 113 K. The one-electron oxidation of 3-CH3O and all of the OH complexes with PbO2 to give indophenoxyl type secondary radicals which are significantly different from those observed for analogues Cl, Br and NO2 substituted chelates. The presented complexes unlike their electron-withdrawing analogues are readily reduced by PPh3 via intramolecular electron transfer from ligand to copper(II) to give various radical intermediates as well as Cu(I) radical ligand compounds. The analysis of ESR spectra all of the complexes and radical intermediates are presented.  相似文献

Stibinyl and bismuthinyl radicals are recognized as representative intermediates of antimony and bismuth compounds, but still elusive in the condensed phase. We successfully synthesized persistent stibinyl and bismuthinyl radicals in solution by facile dissociation of the corresponding dimers with bulky substituents. We characterized the radicals by NMR and UV/Vis spectroscopy and estimated the thermodynamic parameters for the dissociation equilibria. The radicals show n→p (HOMO→SOMO) transition bands at 497 nm (stibinyl) and 543 nm (bismuthinyl) in 3‐methylpentane and react with a stable nitroxyl radical to give the cross‐radical coupling products in good yields.  相似文献

The redox behavior of Sc 3N@C 68 is studied systematically by means of electrochemistry, in situ ESR/Vis-NIR spectroelectrochemistry, and detailed theoretical treatment. Formation of the negatively and positively charged paramagnetic species for the same trimetallic nitride endohedral fullerene is demonstrated for the first time. The electrochemical study of Sc 3N@C 68 exhibits two electrochemically irreversible but chemically reversible reduction steps and two reversible oxidation steps. A double-square reaction scheme is proposed to explain the observed redox reaction at cathodic potentials involving the reversible dimerisation of the Sc 3N@C 68 monoanion. The spin state of the radical cation and the radical anion is probed by ESR spectroscopy, indicating that in both states, the large part of the unpaired spin is delocalized on the fullerene cage. The charged states of the non-isolated pentagon rule fullerene are characterized furthermore by in situ absorption spectroscopy. The interpretation of experimental data is supported by the density functional theory (DFT) calculations of the spin distribution in the anion and cation radicals of Sc 3N@C 68 and time-dependent DFT calculations of the absorption spectra of the charged species.  相似文献

The properties of mono‐ and bis‐Ru–vinyl[6]helicene complexes ( 2 a and 2 b , respectively), recently synthesized by using molecular engineering of helicenes based on the grafting of lateral organometallic substituents on the π‐helical backbone through a vinyl bridge, are presented. These helicene derivatives are thoroughly characterized, with special attention given to their chiroptical properties and redox switching activity. The UV/Vis and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra of P and M enantiopure species, both in the neutral and oxidized states ([ 2 a ] . +, [ 2 b ] . +, and [ 2 b ]2+), are analyzed with the aid of quantum‐chemical calculations. The extended π‐conjugation facilitated by the vinyl moiety, clearly visible in the electronic structures of 2 a , b , introduces new active bands in the ECD spectra that consequently lead to a significant increase in optical rotation of Ru–vinylhelicenes compared with the organic precursors. The vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) spectra were measured and calculated for both the organic and organometallic species and constitute the first examples of VCD for metal‐based helicene derivatives. Finally, the redox‐triggered chiroptical switching activity of 2 a , b is examined in detail by using ECD spectroscopy. The modifications of the ECD spectra in the UV/Vis and NIR region are well reproduced and rationalized by calculations.  相似文献
