We show that formal groups can be used to simplify the construction of Néron models. Also we give a new proof of the stable reduction theorem for abelian varieties. Received: September 2007  相似文献

Mazur [7] has introduced the concept of visible elements in the Tate-Shafarevich group of optimal modular elliptic curves. We generalized the notion to arbitrary abelian subvarieties of abelian varieties and found, based on calculations that assume the Birch-Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture, that there are elements of the Tate-Shafarevich group of certain sub-abelian varieties of J0 (p) and J1 (p) that are not visible.  相似文献

We define 2-gerbes bound by complexes of braided group-like stacks. We prove a classification result in terms of hypercohomology groups with values in abelian crossed squares and cones of morphisms of complexes of length 3. We give an application to the geometric construction of certain elements in Hermitian Deligne cohomology groups.  相似文献

We apply Vojta’s conjecture to blowups and deduce a number of deep statements regarding (generalized) greatest common divisors on varieties, in particular on projective space and on abelian varieties. Special cases of these statements generalize earlier results and conjectures. We also discuss the relationship between generalized greatest common divisors and the divisibility sequences attached to algebraic groups, and we apply Vojta’s conjecture to obtain a strong bound on the divisibility sequences attached to abelian varieties of dimension at least two.  相似文献

In this paper, we formulate the geometric Bogomolov conjecture for abelian varieties, and give some partial answers to it. In fact, we insist in a main theorem that under some degeneracy condition, a closed subvariety of an abelian variety does not have a dense subset of small points if it is a non-special subvariety. The key of the proof is the study of the minimal dimension of the components of a canonical measure on the tropicalization of the closed subvariety. Then we can apply the tropical version of equidistribution theory due to Gubler. This article includes an appendix by Walter Gubler. He shows that the minimal dimension of the components of a canonical measure is equal to the dimension of the abelian part of the subvariety. We can apply this result to make a further contribution to the geometric Bogomolov conjecture.  相似文献

Miyaji, Nakabayashi and Takano (MNT) gave families of group orders of ordinary elliptic curves with embedding degree suitable for pairing applications. In this paper we generalise their results by giving families corresponding to non-prime group orders. We also consider the case of ordinary abelian varieties of dimension 2. We give families of group orders with embedding degrees 5, 10 and 12.  相似文献

We calculate the chance that an elliptic curve over a finite field has a specified number of -isogenies which emanate from it. We give a partial answer for abelian varieties of arbitrary dimension. Received: 20 September 2007  相似文献

Abelian varieties of dimension 2n on which a definite quaternion algebra acts are parametrized by symmetrical domains of dimension n(n−1)/2. Such abelian varieties have primitive Hodge classes in the middle dimensional cohomology group. In general, it is not clear that these are cycle classes. In this paper we show that a particular 6-dimensional family of such 8-folds are Prym varieties and we use the method of Schoen to show that all Hodge classes on the general abelian variety in this family are algebraic. We also consider Hodge classes on certain 5-dimensional subfamilies and relate these to the Hodge conjecture for abelian 4-folds.  相似文献

Principal homogeneous spaces under an abelian variety defined over a number field may have rational points in all completions of the number field without having rational points over . Such principal homogeneous spaces represent the nonzero elements of the Shafarevich-Tate group of the abelian variety.

We produce nontrivial, one-parameter families of such principal homogeneous spaces. The total space of these families are counterexamples to the Hasse principle. We show these may be accounted for by the Brauer-Manin obstruction.

Cremona, Mazur, and others have studied what they call visibility of elements of Shafarevich–Tate groups of elliptic curves. The analogue for an abelian number field K is capitulation of ideal classes of K in the minimal cyclotomic field containing K. We develop a new method to study capitulation and use it and classical methods to compute data with the hope of gaining insight into the elliptic curve case. For example, the numerical data for number fields suggests that visibility of non-trivial Shafarevich–Tate elements might be much more common for elliptic curves of positive rank than for curves of rank 0.  相似文献

We study the cohomology of Deligne-Lusztig varieties with aim the construction of actions of Hecke algebras on such cohomologies, as predicted by the conjectures of Broué, Malle and Michel ultimately aimed at providing an explicit version of the abelian defect conjecture. We develop the theory for varieties associated to elements of the braid monoid and partial compactifications of them. We are able to compute the cohomology of varieties associated to (possibly twisted) rank 2 groups and powers of the longest element w0 (some indeterminacies remain for G2). We use this to construct Hecke algebra actions on the cohomology of varieties associated to w0 or its square, for groups of arbitrary rank. In the subsequent work [F. Digne, J. Michel, Endomorphisms of Deligne-Lusztig varieties, Nagoya J. Math. 183 (2006)], we construct actions associated to more general regular elements and we study their traces on cohomology.  相似文献

We give a new approach to the construction of derived equivalences between blocks of finite groups, based on perverse equivalences, in the setting of Broué?s abelian defect group conjecture. We provide in particular local and global perversity data describing the principal blocks and the derived equivalences for a number of finite simple groups with Sylow subgroups elementary abelian of order 9. We also examine extensions to automorphism groups in a general setting.  相似文献

In this paper, the main objective is to compare the abelian subalgebras and ideals of maximal dimension for finite-dimensional supersolvable Lie algebras. We characterise the maximal abelian subalgebras of solvable Lie algebras and study solvable Lie algebras containing an abelian subalgebra of codimension 2. Finally, we prove that nilpotent Lie algebras with an abelian subalgebra of codimension 3 contain an abelian ideal with the same dimension, provided that the characteristic of the underlying field is not 2. Throughout the paper, we also give several examples to clarify some results.  相似文献

We study moduli spaces of abelian varieties in positive characteristic, more specifically the moduli space of principally polarized abelian varieties on the one hand, and the analogous space with Iwahori type level structure, on the other hand. We investigate the Ekedahl–Oort stratification on the former, the Kottwitz–Rapoport stratification on the latter, and their relationship. In this way, we obtain structural results about the supersingular locus in the case of Iwahori level structure, for instance a formula for its dimension in case g is even.  相似文献

We initiate a study of the rings of invariants of modular representations of elementary abelian p-groups. With a few notable exceptions, the modular representation theory of an elementary abelian p-group is wild. However, for a given dimension, it is possible to parameterise the representations. We describe parameterisations for modular representations of dimension two and of dimension three. We compute the ring of invariants for all two-dimensional representations; these rings are generated by two algebraically independent elements. We compute the ring of invariants of the symmetric square of a two-dimensional representation; these rings are hypersurfaces. We compute the ring of invariants for all three-dimensional representations of rank at most three; these rings are complete intersections with embedding dimension at most five. We conjecture that the ring of invariants for any three-dimensional representation of an elementary abelian p-group is a complete intersection.  相似文献
