We consider bounded symmetric domains in complex Banach spaces. It is known that each of these domains can be realized as open unit ballD of a uniquely determined complex Banach spaceE and that every biholomorphic automorphismg ofD extends holomorphically to the closure ofD inE. We study subsetsS of (and in particular of the boundary ϖD) such that every automorphismg is already uniquely determined by its values onS. We also consider subsetsS with the analogue topological property: For every sequence (g n ) of automorphisms converging uniformly onS tog the convergence is already uniform onD. The paper proves the following result on universal meromorphic approximation: Given any unbounded sequence {λ n } ? ?, there exists a function ?, meromorphic on ?, with the following property. For every compact set K of rational approximation (i.e. Vitushkin set), and every function f, continuous on K and holomorphic in the interior of K, there exists a subsequence {n k } of ? such that $ \left\{ {\varphi \left( {z + \lambda _{n_k } } \right)} \right\} The paper proves the following result on universal meromorphic approximation: Given any unbounded sequence {λ n } ⊂ ℂ, there exists a function ϕ, meromorphic on ℂ, with the following property. For every compact set K of rational approximation (i.e. Vitushkin set), and every function f, continuous on K and holomorphic in the interior of K, there exists a subsequence {n k } of ℕ such that converges to f(z) uniformly on K. Let S be a regular semigroup and E(S) be the set of its idempotents. We call the sets S(e, f)f and eS(e, f) one-sided sandwich sets and characterize them abstractly where e, fE(S). For a, a′ ∈ S such that a = aa′a, a′ = a′aa′, we call S(a) = S(a′a, aa′) the sandwich set of a. We characterize regular semigroups S in which all S(e; f) (or all S(a)) are right zero semigroups (respectively are trivial) in several ways including weak versions of compatibility of the natural order. For every aS, we also define E(a) as the set of all idempotets e such that, for any congruence ϱ on S, aϱa 2 implies that aϱe. We study the restrictions on S in order that S(a) or be trivial. An inverse theorem for the best weighted polynomial approximation of a function in (S) is established. We also investigate Besov spaces generated by Freud weight and their connection with algebraic polynomial approximation in , wherew α is a Jacobi-type weight onS, 0<p ≤ ∞,S is a simplex andW λ is a Freud weight. In this paper the equivalence on a semigroup S in terms of a set U of idempotents in S is defined. A semigroup S is called a U-liberal semigroup with U as the set of projections and denoted by S(U) if every -class in it contains an element in U. A ringA is left co-Noetherian if the injective hull of each simple leftA-module is Artinian. Such rings have been studied by Vámos and Jans. Dually, callA left co-Artinian if the injective hull of each simple leftA-module is Noetherian. Left co-Artinian rings having only finitely many nonisomorphic simple left modules are studied, and such rings are shown to have nilpotent radical. Moreover, it is shown that left co-Artinian implies left co-Noetherian ifA/J is Artinian. For an injective leftA-module A Q withB=End ( A Q), andC=End (Q B ), conditions yielding a Morita duality between and are obtained. In special cases, e.g. A Q a self-cogenerator, this Morita duality yields chain conditions on A Q. Specialized to commutative rings, these results give the known fact that every commutative co-Artinian ring is co-Noetherian. Finally in the case that the injective hull A E=E( A S) of a simple leftA-module A S is a self-cogenerator, chain conditions on A E are related to chain conditions onB B =End ( A E). The results obtained are analogous to results for commutative rings of Vámos, Rosenberg and Zelinsky. Letψ andϕ be two given random closed sets in a locally compact second countable topological spaceS. (They need not be based on the same probability space.) The main result gives necessary and sufficient conditions on the distributions ofψ andϕ, for the existence of two random closed sets and , based on the same probability space and such that their distributions coincide with those ofψ andϕ, resp., and a.s. This coupling result tells us in particular when a probability distribution onS is selectionable w.r.t. (the distribution of) a random closed set. An existence result for realizable thinnings of a simple point process is obtained by specializing it to supports of random measures. The coupling result is extended to random variables in a countably based continuous poset. As examples we mention various kinds of random capacities — in particular random measures — and random compact (saturated) sets. Moreover, the extended result tells us when a probability distribution onS is selectionable w.r.t. the distribution of a random compact (saturated) set.  相似文献

A subsemigroup S of a semigroup Q is a straight left order in Q and Q is a semigroup of straight left quotients of S if every qQ can be written as for some with a b in Q and if, in addition, every element of S that is square cancellable lies in a subgroup of Q. Here a denotes the group inverse of a in some (hence any) subgroup of Q. If S is a straight left order in Q, then Q is necessarily regular; the idea is that Q has a better understood structure than that of S. Necessary and sufficient conditions exist on a semigroup S for S to be a straight left order. The technique is to consider a pair of preorders on S. If such a pair satisfies conditions mimicking those satisfied by on a regular semigroup, and if certain subsemigroups of S are right reversible, then S is a straight left order. The conditions required for to satisfy are somewhat lengthy. In this paper we aim to circumvent some of these by specialising in two ways. First we consider only fully stratified left orders, that is, the case where (certainly the most natural choice for ) and the other is to insist that S be abundant, that is, every -class and every -class of S contains an idempotent. Our results may be used to show that the monoid of endomorphisms of a hereditary basis algebra of finite rank is a fully stratified straight left order. It is shown that a nuclear Fréchet spaceE has the property (DN) if and only if every holomorphic function onE *, the strongly dual space ofE, with values in the strongly dual space of a Fréchet spaceF having the property ( ) can be represented in the exponential form. Moreover, it is shown that the space of holomorphic functions onC , the space of all complex number sequences, has a linearly absolutely exponential representation system. Summary Suppose given a quasi-periodic tiling of some Euclidean space E u which is self-similar under the linear expansiong: Eμ→Eμ. It is known that there is an embedding of Eμ into some higher-dimensional space ℝ N and a linear automorphism with integer coefficients such that E u ⊂ ℝ N is invariant under andg is the restriction of to E u . Let E s be the -invariant complement of E u , and . If certain conditions are fulfilled (e.g. must be a lattice automorphism,g * is an expansion), we construct a self-similar tiling of E s whose expansion isg *, using the information contained in the original tiling of Eμ. The term “Galois duality” of tilings is motivated by the fact that the eigenvalues ofg * are Galois conjugates of those ofg. Our method can be applied to find the Galois duals which are given by Thurston, obtained in a somewhat other way for the case that dim Eμ=1, andg is the multiplication by a cubic Pisot unit. Bandt and Gummelt have found fractally shaped tilings which can be considered as strictly self-similar modifications of the kites-and-darts, and the rhombi tilings of Penrose. As one of the examples, we show that these fractal versions can be constructed by dualizing tilings by Penrose triangles.  相似文献

A powerful tool for studying the growth of analytic and harmonic functions is Hall's Lemma, which states that there is a constantC>0 so that the harmonic measure of a subsetE of the closed unit disk evaluated at 0 satisfies whereE rad is the radial projection ofE onto . FitzGerald, Rodin and Warschawski proved that ifE is a continuum in whose radial projection has length at most π then (*) is true withC=1, and they asked how large the length, |E rad|, can be in order for their result to be valid. We prove that (*) holds withC=1 for every continuum satisfying and θc cannot be replaced by a larger number. Fuchs asked for the largest constantC so that (*) holds for allE. We show that for every continuum , (*) holds withC=C ≅.977126698498665669…, whereC is the harmonic measure of the two long sides of a 3∶1 rectangle evaluated at the center. on the disk |z|≤1 and on the closed interval [−1, 1] by means of the orthogonal projection of on the set of rational functions of degreen. Moreover, the poles of the rational functions are chosen depending on the measure μ. For example, it is shown that if supp μ is compact and does not contain 1, then this approximation method is of best order. In this paper we initiate the study of total restrained domination in graphs. Let G = (V,E) be a graph. A total restrained dominating set is a set S V where every vertex in V - S is adjacent to a vertex in S as well as to another vertex in V - S, and every vertex in S is adjacent to another vertex in S. The total restrained domination number of G, denoted by r t (G), is the smallest cardinality of a total restrained dominating set of G. First, some exact values and sharp bounds for r t (G) are given in Section 2. Then the Nordhaus-Gaddum-type results for total restrained domination number are established in Section 3. Finally, we show that the decision problem for r t (G) is NP-complete even for bipartite and chordal graphs in Section 4.This work was supported by National Natural Sciences Foundation of China (19871036).  相似文献

Given a graph G = (V, E), a set of vertices covers a vertex if the edge-connectivity between S and v is at least a given number k. Vertices in S are called sources. The maximum-cover source location problem, which is a variation of the source location problem, is to find a source set S with a given size at most p, maximizing the sum of the weight of vertices covered by S. In this paper, we show a polynomial-time algorithm for this problem in the case of k = 3 for a given undirected graph with a vertex weight function and an edge capacity function. Moreover, we show that this problem is NP-hard even if vertex weights and edge capacities are both uniform for general k.  相似文献
