In this paper we prove that a positive commutator between a positive compact operator A and a positive operator B is in the radical of the Banach algebra generated by A and B. Furthermore, on every at least three-dimensional Banach lattice we construct finite rank operators A and B satisfying \(AB\ge BA\ge 0\) such that the commutator \(AB-BA\) is not contained in the radical of the Banach algebra generated by A and B. These two results now completely answer to two open questions published in (Bra?i? et al., Positivity 14:431–439, 2010). We also obtain relevant results in the case of the Volterra and the Donoghue operator.  相似文献

A Hilbert space operator TB(H) is hereditarily normaloid (notation: THN) if every part of T is normaloid. An operator THN is totally hereditarily normaloid (notation: TTHN) if every invertible part of T is normaloid. We prove that THN-operators with Bishop's property (β), also THN-contractions with a compact defect operator such that and non-zero isolated eigenvalues of T are normal, are not supercyclic. Take A and B in THN and let dAB denote either of the elementary operators in B(B(H)): ΔAB and δAB, where ΔAB(X)=AXBX and δAB(X)=AXXB. We prove that if non-zero isolated eigenvalues of A and B are normal and , then dAB is an isoloid operator such that the quasi-nilpotent part H0(dABλ) of dABλ equals −1(dABλ)(0) for every complex number λ which is isolated in σ(dAB). If, additionally, dAB has the single-valued extension property at all points not in the Weyl spectrum of dAB, then dAB, and the conjugate operator , satisfy Weyl's theorem.  相似文献

This is a continuation of our paper [2]. We prove that for functions f in the Hölder class Λα(R) and 1<p<∞, the operator f(A)−f(B) belongs to Sp/α, whenever A and B are self-adjoint operators with ABSp. We also obtain sharp estimates for the Schatten-von Neumann norms ‖f(A)−f(B)Sp/α in terms of ‖ABSp and establish similar results for other operator ideals. We also estimate Schatten-von Neumann norms of higher order differences . We prove that analogous results hold for functions on the unit circle and unitary operators and for analytic functions in the unit disk and contractions. Then we find necessary conditions on f for f(A)−f(B) to belong to Sq under the assumption that ABSp. We also obtain Schatten-von Neumann estimates for quasicommutators f(A)RRf(B), and introduce a spectral shift function and find a trace formula for operators of the form f(AK)−2f(A)+f(A+K).  相似文献

For a positive integer k, the rank-k numerical range Λk(A) of an operator A acting on a Hilbert space H of dimension at least k is the set of scalars λ such that PAP=λP for some rank k orthogonal projection P. In this paper, a close connection between low rank perturbation of an operator A and Λk(A) is established. In particular, for 1?r<k it is shown that Λk(A)⊆Λkr(A+F) for any operator F with rank(F)?r. In quantum computing, this result implies that a quantum channel with a k-dimensional error correcting code under a perturbation of rank at most r will still have a (kr)-dimensional error correcting code. Moreover, it is shown that if A is normal or if the dimension of A is finite, then Λk(A) can be obtained as the intersection of Λkr(A+F) for a collection of rank r operators F. Examples are given to show that the result fails if A is a general operator. The closure and the interior of the convex set Λk(A) are completely determined. Analogous results are obtained for Λ(A) defined as the set of scalars λ such that PAP=λP for an infinite rank orthogonal projection P. It is shown that Λ(A) is the intersection of all Λk(A) for k=1,2,…. If AμI is not compact for all μC, then the closure and the interior of Λ(A) coincide with those of the essential numerical range of A. The situation for the special case when AμI is compact for some μC is also studied.  相似文献

Let A be the generator of a cosine function on a Banach space X. In many cases, for example if X is a UMD-space, A+B generates a cosine function for each BL(D((ωA)1/2),X). If A is unbounded and , then we show that there exists a rank-1 operator BL(D(γ(ωA)),X) such that A+B does not generate a cosine function. The proof depends on a modification of a Baire argument due to Desch and Schappacher. It also allows us to prove the following. If A+B generates a distribution semigroup for each operator BL(D(A),X) of rank-1, then A generates a holomorphic C0-semigroup. If A+B generates a C0-semigroup for each operator BL(D(γ(ωA)),X) of rank-1 where 0<γ<1, then the semigroup T generated by A is differentiable and ‖T(t)‖=O(tα) as t↓0 for any α>1/γ. This is an approximate converse of a perturbation theorem for this class of semigroups.  相似文献

Let Γ denote an uncountable set. We consider the questions if a Banach space X of the form C(K) of a given class (1) has a complemented copy of c0(Γ) or (2) for every c0(Γ)⊆X has a complemented c0(E) for an uncountable EΓ or (3) has a decomposition X=AB where both A and B are nonseparable. The results concern a superclass of the class of nonmetrizable Eberlein compacts, namely Ks such that C(K) is Lindelöf in the weak topology and we restrict our attention to Ks scattered of countable height. We show that the answers to all these questions for these C(K)s depend on additional combinatorial axioms which are independent of ZFC ± CH. If we assume the P-ideal dichotomy, for every c0(Γ)⊆C(K) there is a complemented c0(E) for an uncountable EΓ, which yields the positive answer to the remaining questions. If we assume ♣, then we construct a nonseparable weakly Lindelöf C(K) for K of height ω+1 where every operator is of the form cI+S for cR and S with separable range and conclude from this that there are no decompositions as above which yields the negative answer to all the above questions. Since, in the case of a scattered compact K, the weak topology on C(K) and the pointwise convergence topology coincide on bounded sets, and so the Lindelöf properties of these two topologies are equivalent, many results concern also the space Cp(K).  相似文献

We consider the following three closed algebraic ideals of operators on a Banach lattice: compact, strictly singular, and inessential operators. Suppose that 0?A?B and B is compact or strictly singular. We show that, under certain assumptions, A (or some power of A) is inessential.  相似文献

Given a bounded operator A on a Banach space X with Drazin inverse AD and index r, we study the class of group invertible bounded operators B such that I+AD(BA) is invertible and R(B)∩N(Ar)={0}. We show that they can be written with respect to the decomposition X=R(Ar)⊕N(Ar) as a matrix operator, , where B1 and are invertible. Several characterizations of the perturbed operators are established, extending matrix results. We analyze the perturbation of the Drazin inverse and we provide explicit upper bounds of ‖B?AD‖ and ‖BB?ADA‖. We obtain a result on the continuity of the group inverse for operators on Banach spaces.  相似文献

Suppose (B,β) is an operator ideal, and A is a linear space of operators between Banach spaces X and Y. Modifying the classical notion of hyperreflexivity, we say that A is called B-hyperreflexive if there exists a constant C such that, for any TB(X,Y) with α=supβ(qTi)<∞ (the supremum runs over all isometric embeddings i into X, and all quotient maps of Y, satisfying qAi=0), there exists aA, for which β(Ta)?Cα. In this paper, we give examples of B-hyperreflexive spaces, as well as of spaces failing this property. In the last section, we apply SE-hyperreflexivity of operator algebras (SE is a regular symmetrically normed operator ideal) to constructing operator spaces with prescribed families of completely bounded maps.  相似文献

The classical Hilbert-Schmidt theorem can be extended to compact operators on HilbertA-modules overW *-algebras of finite type; i.e., with minor restrictions, compact operators onH* A can be diagonalized overA. We show that ifB is a weakly denseC *-subalgebra ofA with real rank zero and if some additional condition holds, then the natural extension fromH B toH* A H B of a compact operator can be diagonalized so that the diagonal elements belong to the originalC *-algebraB. Let R be an associative ring with 1; A, B ⊴ R be its ideals; C(n, R, A) be the full congruence subgroup of level A in GL(n, R); and E(n, R, A) be the relative elementary subgroup of level A. We present a very easy proof of the following commutator formula: [E(n, R, A),C(n, R, B)] = [E(n, R, A), E(n, R, B)] for all commutative rings based exclusively on the absolute standard commutator formula and its non-commutative counterparts. This generalizes and strengethens Mason and Stothers’ results, our results, and those of Hazrat and Zhang. For comaximal ideals A + B = R, we show that this commutator is E(n, R, AB + BA).  相似文献

A Banach space operator TB(X) is said to be totally hereditarily normaloid, TTHN, if every part of T is normaloid and every invertible part of T has a normaloid inverse. The operator T is said to be an H(q) operator for some integer q?1, TH(q), if the quasi-nilpotent part H0(Tλ)=(Tλ)q(0) for every complex number λ. It is proved that if T is algebraically H(q), or T is algebraically THN and X is separable, then f(T) satisfies Weyl's theorem for every function f analytic in an open neighborhood of σ(T), and T satisfies a-Weyl's theorem. If also T has the single valued extension property, then f(T) satisfies a-Weyl's theorem for every analytic function f which is non-constant on the connected components of the open neighborhood of σ(T) on which it is defined.  相似文献

In this article we prove new results concerning the existence and various properties of an evolution system UA+B(t,s)0?s?t?T generated by the sum −(A(t)+B(t)) of two linear, time-dependent and generally unbounded operators defined on time-dependent domains in a complex and separable Banach space B. In particular, writing L(B) for the algebra of all linear bounded operators on B, we can express UA+B(t,s)0?s?t?T as the strong limit in L(B) of a product of the holomorphic contraction semigroups generated by −A(t) and −B(t), respectively, thereby proving a product formula of the Trotter-Kato type under very general conditions which allow the domain D(A(t)+B(t)) to evolve with time provided there exists a fixed set D?t∈[0,T]D(A(t)+B(t)) everywhere dense in B. We obtain a special case of our formula when B(t)=0, which, in effect, allows us to reconstruct UA(t,s)0?s?t?T very simply in terms of the semigroup generated by −A(t). We then illustrate our results by considering various examples of nonautonomous parabolic initial-boundary value problems, including one related to the theory of time-dependent singular perturbations of self-adjoint operators. We finally mention what we think remains an open problem for the corresponding equations of Schrödinger type in quantum mechanics.  相似文献

We are motivated by the following question concerning the direct product of graphs. If A×CB×C, what can be said about the relationship between A and B? If cancellation fails, what properties must A and B share? We define a structural equivalence relation ∼ (called similarity) on graphs, weaker than isomorphism, for which A×CB×C implies AB. Thus cancellation holds, up to similarity. Moreover, if C is bipartite, then A×CB×C if and only if AB. We conjecture that the prime factorization of connected bipartite graphs is unique up to similarity of factors, and we offer some results supporting this conjecture.  相似文献

This paper contains both negative and positive results concerning the possibility of extending accretive sets in Banach spaces to m-accretive sets. On the one hand, it is shown that if a closed convex subset C of a reflexive strictly convex Banach space E is not a nonexpansive retract of E, then no accretive A such that clco(D(A)) = C can be extended to an m-accretive set B with D(B) ?C, and that if a non-Hilbert E is reflexive and smooth, then there is an accretive set A ?E × E which has no m-accretive extension. On the other hand, we establish positive results and then apply them to the study of the asymptotic behavior of nonlinear semigroups, the construction of zeros of accretive sets, and the characterization of invariant sets for nonlinear semigroups.  相似文献

We show that a bounded operator A on a Hilbert space belongs to a certain set associated with its self-commutator [A?,A], provided that AzI can be approximated by invertible operators for all complex numbers z. The theorem remains valid in a general C?-algebra of real rank zero under the assumption that AzI belong to the closure of the connected component of unity in the set of invertible elements. This result implies the Brown-Douglas-Fillmore theorem and Huaxin Lin?s theorem on almost commuting matrices. Moreover, it allows us to refine the former and to extend the latter to operators of infinite rank and other norms (including the Schatten norms on the space of matrices). The proof is based on an abstract theorem, which states that a normal element of a C?-algebra of real rank zero satisfying the above condition has a resolution of the identity associated with any open cover of its spectrum.  相似文献

In this note, we give a characterization of a pair (A,B) of positive contractions with commutator ABBA of maximum possible norm. A necessary and sufficient condition is that either or its complex conjugate is in the closure of the numerical range of AB.  相似文献

Let Φ:AB be an additive surjective map between some operator algebras such that AB+BA=0 implies Φ(A)Φ(B)+Φ(B)Φ(A)=0. We show that, under some mild conditions, Φ is a Jordan homomorphism multiplied by a central element. Such operator algebras include von Neumann algebras, C-algebras and standard operator algebras, etc. Particularly, if H and K are infinite-dimensional (real or complex) Hilbert spaces and A=B(H) and B=B(K), then there exists a nonzero scalar c and an invertible linear or conjugate-linear operator U:HK such that either Φ(A)=cUAU−1 for all AB(H), or Φ(A)=cUAU−1 for all AB(H).  相似文献

If the positive integers are partitioned into a finite number of cells, then Hindman proved that there exists an infinite set B such that all finite, nonempty sums of distinct elements of B all belong to one cell of the partition. Erdös conjectured that if A is a set of integers with positive asymptotic density, then there exist infinite sets B and C such that B + C ? A. This conjecture is still unproved. This paper contains several results on sumsets contained in finite sets of integers. For example, if A is a set of integers of positive upper density, then for any n there exist sets B and F such that B has positive upper density, F has cardinality n, and B + F ? A.  相似文献
