In this note, we characterize finite three-dimensional affine spaces as the only linear spaces endowed with set Ω of proper subspaces having the properties (1) every line contains a constant number of points, say n, with n>2; (2) every triple of noncollinear points is contained in a unique member of Ω; (3) disjoint or coincide is an equivalence relation in Ω with the additional property that every equivalence class covers all points. We also take a look at the case n=2 (in which case we have a complete graph endowed with a set Ω of proper complete subgraphs) and classify these objects: besides the affine 3-space of order 2, two small additional examples turn up. Furthermore, we generalize our result in the case of dimension greater than three to obtain a characterization of all finite affine spaces of dimension at least 3 with lines of size at least 3.  相似文献

We study self-similar ultrametric Cantor sets arising from stationary Bratteli diagrams. We prove that such a Cantor set C is bi-Lipschitz embeddable in R[Hdim(C)]+1, where [Hdim(C)] denotes the integer part of its Hausdorff dimension. We compute this Hausdorff dimension explicitly and show that it is the abscissa of convergence of a zeta-function associated with a natural sequence of refining coverings of C (given by the Bratteli diagram). As a corollary we prove that the transversal of a (primitive) substitution tiling of Rd is bi-Lipschitz embeddable in Rd+1.We also show that C is bi-Hölder embeddable in the real line. The image of C in R turns out to be the ω-spectrum (the limit points of the set of eigenvalues) of a Laplacian on C introduced by Pearson-Bellissard via noncommutative geometry.  相似文献

The dual of B-valued martingale Hardy space Hs(p)r(B) with small index 0 r ≤ 1,which is associated with the conditional p-variation of B-valued martingale,is characterized. In order to obtain the results,a new type of Campanato spaces for B-valued martingales is introduced and the classical technique of atomic decompositions is improved. Some results obtained here are connected closely with the p-uniform smoothness and q-uniform convexity of the underlying Banach space.  相似文献

Suppose φ is a holomorphic mapping from the polydisk Dm into the polydisk Dn, or from the polydisk Dm into the unit ball Bn, we consider the action of the associated composition operator Cφ on Hardy and weighted Bergman spaces of Dn or Bn. We first find the optimal range spaces and then characterize compactness. As a special case, we show that if

We consider the dilation property of the modulation spaces Mp,q. Let be the dilation operator, and we consider the behavior of the operator norm ‖DλMp,qMp,q with respect to λ. Our result determines the best order for it, and as an application, we establish the optimality of the inclusion relation between the modulation spaces and Besov spaces, which was proved by Toft [J. Toft, Continuity properties for modulation spaces, with applications to pseudo-differential calculus, I, J. Funct. Anal. 207 (2004) 399-429].  相似文献

In this paper, we present some new characterizations of Sobolev spaces. Here is a typical result. Let gLp(RN), 1<p<+∞; we prove that gW1,p(RN) if and only if

Necessary and sufficient conditions on a rearrangement-invariant Banach function space X(Q) on a cube Q in , n?2, are given for the corresponding Sobolev space W1X(Q) to be continuously embedded into (generalized) Campanato, Morrey, or Hölder spaces. The optimal such r.i. spaces X(Q) are found. As a by-product, sharp inclusion relations are proved among Campanato, Morrey, and Hölder type spaces.  相似文献

Let X be a partially ordered real Banach space, let a,bX with ab. Let φ be a bounded linear functional on X. We say that X satisfies the box-optimization property (or X is a BOP space) if the box-constrained linear program: max 〈φ,x〉, s.t. axb, has an optimal solution for any φ,a and b. Such problems arise naturally in solving a class of problems known as interval linear programs. BOP spaces were introduced (in a different language) and systematically studied in the first author’s doctoral thesis. In this paper, we identify new classes of Banach spaces that are BOP spaces. We present also sufficient conditions under which answers are in the affirmative for the following questions:
  1. (i)
When is a closed subspace of a BOP space a BOP space?

  2. (ii)
When is the range of a bounded linear map a BOP space?

  3. (iii)
Is the quotient space of a BOP space a BOP space?

In this paper we extend the DiPerna-Lions theory of flows associated to Sobolev vector fields to the case of Cameron-Martin-valued vector fields in Wiener spaces E having a Sobolev regularity. The proof is based on the analysis of the continuity equation in E, and on uniform (Gaussian) commutator estimates in finite-dimensional spaces.  相似文献

We give a sufficient (and, in the case of a compact domain, a necessary) condition for the embedding of Sobolev space of functions with integrable gradient into Besov-Orlicz spaces to be bounded. The condition has a form of a simple integral inequality involving Young and weight functions. We provide an example with Matuszewska-Orlicz indices of involved Orlicz norm equal to one. The main tool is the molecular decomposition of functions from a BV space.  相似文献

Very recently Tkachuk has proved that for a completely regular Hausdorff space X the space Cp(X) of continuous real-valued functions on X with the pointwise topology is metrizable, complete and separable iff Cp(X) is Baire (i.e. of the second Baire category) and is covered by a family of compact sets such that KαKβ if α?β. Our general result, which extends some results of De Wilde, Sunyach and Valdivia, states that a locally convex space E is separable metrizable and complete iff E is Baire and is covered by an ordered family of relatively countably compact sets. Consequently every Baire locally convex space which is quasi-Suslin is separable metrizable and complete.  相似文献

We study the relationship between the classical combinatorial inequalities of Simons and the more recent (I)-property of Fonf and Lindenstrauss. We obtain a characterization of strong boundaries for Asplund spaces using the new concept of finitely self-predictable set. Strong properties for w-K-analytic boundaries are established as well as a sup-lim sup theorem for Baire maps.  相似文献

Given three Banach spaces X, Y and Z and a bounded bilinear map , a sequence x=n(xn)⊆X is called B-absolutely summable if is finite for any yY. Connections of this space with are presented. A sequence x=n(xn)⊆X is called B-unconditionally summable if is finite for any yY and zZ and for any MN there exists xMX for which nMB(xn,y),z〉=〈B(xM,y),z〉 for all yY and zZ. A bilinear version of Orlicz-Pettis theorem is given in this setting and some applications are presented.  相似文献

We study embeddings of spaces of Besov-Morrey type, M Bp1,q1s1,r1(Rd ) → M Bp2 ,q2s2 ,r2 (R d ), and obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for this. Moreover, we can also characterise the special weighted situation Bp1 ,r1s1 (R d , w) → M Bp2 ,q2s2 ,r2 (Rd ) for a Muckenhoupt A ∞ weight w, with wα(x) = |x|α , α -d1, as a typical example.  相似文献

We show the existence of a compact metric space K such that whenever K embeds isometrically into a Banach space Y, then any separable Banach space is linearly isometric to a subspace of Y. We also address the following related question: if a Banach space Y contains an isometric copy of the unit ball or of some special compact subset of a separable Banach space X, does it necessarily contain a subspace isometric to X? We answer positively this question when X is a polyhedral finite-dimensional space, c0 or ?1.  相似文献

We characterize the set of functions which can be approximated by continuous functions with the norm ‖fL(w) for every weight w. This fact allows to determine the closure of the space of polynomials in L(w) for every weight w with compact support. We characterize as well the set of functions which can be approximated by smooth functions with the norm

The density of polynomials is straightforward to prove in Sobolev spaces Wk,p((a,b)), but there exist only partial results in weighted Sobolev spaces; here we improve some of these theorems. The situation is more complicated in infinite intervals, even for weighted Lp spaces; besides, in the present paper we have proved some other results for weighted Sobolev spaces in infinite intervals.  相似文献

For a metric space X, we study the space D(X) of bounded functions on X whose pointwise Lipschitz constant is uniformly bounded. D(X) is compared with the space LIP(X) of bounded Lipschitz functions on X, in terms of different properties regarding the geometry of X. We also obtain a Banach-Stone theorem in this context. In the case of a metric measure space, we also compare D(X) with the Newtonian-Sobolev space N1,∞(X). In particular, if X supports a doubling measure and satisfies a local Poincaré inequality, we obtain that D(X)=N1,∞(X).  相似文献
