The main concern of this note is the Moore-Penrose inverse in the context of Banach spaces and algebras. Especially attention will be given to a particular class of elements with the aforementioned inverse, namely EP Banach space operators and Banach algebra elements, which will be studied and characterized extending well-known results obtained in the frame of Hilbert space operators and C-algebra elements.  相似文献

In this paper we give a characterization of dual Banach lattices. In fact, we prove that a Banach function space E on a separable measure space which has the Fatou property is a dual Banach lattice if and only if all positive operators from L1(0,1) into E are abstract kernel operators, hence extending the fact, proved by M. Talagrand, that separable Banach lattices with the Radon-Nikodym property are dual Banach lattices.  相似文献

We extend the usual notion of orthogonality to Banach spaces. We show that the extension is quite rich in structure by establishing some of its main properties and consequences. Geometric characterizations and comparison results with other extensions are established. Also, we establish a characterization of compact operators on Banach spaces that admit orthonormal Schauder bases. Finally, we characterize orthogonality in the spaces l2p(C).  相似文献

In this paper we use results from the theory of tensor products of Banach spaces to establish the isometry of the space of (1,p)-summing sequences (also known as strongly p-summable sequences) in a Banach space X, the space of nuclear X-valued operators on ?p and the complete projective tensor product of ?p with X. Through similar techniques from the theory of tensor products, the isometry of the sequence space LpX〉 (recently introduced in a paper by Bu, Quaestiones Math. (2002), to appear), the space of nuclear X-valued operators on Lp(0,1) (with a suitable equivalent norm) and the complete projective tensor product of Lp(0,1) with X is established. Moreover, we find conditions for the space of (p,q)-summing multipliers to have the GAK-property (generalized AK-property), use multiplier sequences to characterize Banach space valued bounded linear operators on the vector sequence space of absolutely p-summable sequences in a Banach space and present short proofs for results on p-summing multipliers.  相似文献

We give several applications of Rademacher sequences in abstract Banach lattices. We characterise those Banach lattices with an atomic dual in terms of weak* sequential convergence. We give an alternative treatment of results of Rosenthal, generalising a classical result of Pitt, on the compactness of operators from Lp into Lq. Finally we generalise earlier work of ours by showing that, amongst Banach lattices F with an order continuous norm, those having the property that the linear span of the positive compact operators fromE into F is complete under the regular norm for all Banach lattices E are precisely the atomic lattices.  相似文献

We formulate a general theory of positions for subspaces of a Banach space: we define equivalent and isomorphic positions, study the automorphy index a(Y,X) that measures how many non-equivalent positions Y admits in X, and obtain estimates of a(Y,X) for X a classical Banach space such as ?p,Lp,L1,C(ωω) or C[0,1]. Then, we study different aspects of the automorphic space problem posed by Lindenstrauss and Rosenthal; namely, does there exist a separable automorphic space different from c0 or ?2? Recall that a Banach space X is said to be automorphic if every subspace Y admits only one position in X; i.e., a(Y,X)=1 for every subspace Y of X. We study the notion of extensible space and uniformly finitely extensible space (UFO), which are relevant since every automorphic space is extensible and every extensible space is UFO. We obtain a dichotomy theorem: Every UFO must be either an L-space or a weak type 2 near-Hilbert space with the Maurey projection property. We show that a Banach space all of whose subspaces are UFO (called hereditarily UFO spaces) must be asymptotically Hilbertian; while a Banach space for which both X and X are UFO must be weak Hilbert. We then refine the dichotomy theorem for Banach spaces with some additional structure. In particular, we show that an UFO with unconditional basis must be either c0 or a superreflexive weak type 2 space; that a hereditarily UFO Köthe function space must be Hilbert; and that a rearrangement invariant space UFO must be either L or a superreflexive type 2 Banach lattice.  相似文献

Banach frames are defined by straightforward generalization of (Hilbert space) frames. We characterize Banach frames (and Xd-frames) in separable Banach spaces, and relate them to series expansions in Banach spaces. In particular, our results show that we can not expect Banach frames to share all the nice properties of frames in Hilbert spaces.  相似文献

We prove three new dichotomies for Banach spaces à la W.T. Gowers' dichotomies. The three dichotomies characterise respectively the spaces having no minimal subspaces, having no subsequentially minimal basic sequences, and having no subspaces crudely finitely representable in all of their subspaces. We subsequently use these results to make progress on Gowers' program of classifying Banach spaces by finding characteristic spaces present in every space. Also, the results are used to embed any partial order of size 1 into the subspaces of any space without a minimal subspace ordered by isomorphic embeddability.  相似文献

For a double array of independent random elements {Vmn,m ≥ 1,n ≥ 1} in a real separable Banach space,conditions are provided under which the weak and strong laws of large numbers for the double sums mi=1 nj=1Vij,m ≥ 1,n ≥ 1 are equivalent.Both the identically distributed and the nonidentically distributed cases are treated.In the main theorems,no assumptions are made concerning the geometry of the underlying Banach space.These theorems are applied to obtain Kolmogorov,Brunk–Chung,and Marcinkiewicz–Zygmund type strong laws of large numbers for double sums in Rademacher type p(1 ≤ p ≤ 2) Banach spaces.  相似文献

In order to extend the theory of optimal domains for continuous operators on a Banach function space X(μ) over a finite measure μ, we consider operators T satisfying other type of inequalities than the one given by the continuity which occur in several well-known factorization theorems (for instance, Pisier Factorization Theorem through Lorentz spaces, pth-power factorable operators …). We prove that such a T factorizes through a space of multiplication operators which can be understood in a certain sense as the optimal domain for T. Our extended optimal domain technique does not need necessarily the equivalence between μ and the measure defined by the operator T and, by using δ-rings, μ is allowed to be infinite. Classical and new examples and applications of our results are also given, including some new results on the Hardy operator and a factorization theorem through Hilbert spaces.  相似文献

We study first EP modular operators on Hilbert C?-modules and then we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for the product of two EP modular operators to be EP.
