A new factor M is proposed to characterize the similarity of the behavior of a partially coherent beam (PCB) to its coherent counterpart when propagating through atmospheric turbulence. It is shown that there exists a boundary in the range of the source coherent length. The decreasing rates of free space angular spreading and of turbulence distance with the source coherent length are different before and after the coherent length arriving at the boundary value, by which the change trend of M can be concluded.  相似文献

Here we revisit the inner–outer interaction model (IOIM) of Marusic et al. (Science, vol. 329, 2010, pp. 193–196) that enables the prediction of statistics of the fluctuating streamwise velocity in the inner region of wall-bounded turbulent flows from a large-scale velocity signature measured in the outer region of the flow. The model is characterised by two empirically observed inner–outer interactions: superposition of energy from outer region large-scale motions; and amplitude modulation by these large-scale motions of a small-scale ‘universal’ signal (u*), which in smooth-wall flows is Reynolds number invariant. In the present study, the inner–outer interactions in rough-wall turbulent boundary layers are examined within the framework of the IOIM. Simultaneous two-point hot-wire anemometry measurements enable quantification, via the model parameters, of the strengths of superposition and amplitude modulation effects in a rough-wall flow, and these are compared to a smooth-wall flow. It is shown that the present rough-wall significantly reduces the effects of superposition, while increasing the amplitude modulation effect. The former is true even in flows that exhibit outer region similarity. Using the model parameters obtained from the two-point measurements, predictions of inner region streamwise velocity statistics and spectra are compared to measurements over a range of friction and roughness Reynolds numbers. These results indicate that the u* signal does depend on roughness Reynolds number (k+s), but is robust to changes in friction Reynolds number (δ+). Additionally, the superposition strength is shown to be relatively independent of both roughness and friction Reynolds number. The implications of the present results on the suitability of the IOIM as a predictive tool in rough-wall turbulence are discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, a new low-Reynolds-number (LRN) one-equation turbulence model for eddy viscosity is proposed. A mixed time scale, representing a combination of three time scales: two time scales made of strain-rate parameter S and vorticity parameter Ω and the turbulent time scale k/?, is introduced into this model. The proposed model is derived from an LRN k?? two-equation model where the mixed time scale has been proved to be very effective for predicting local flows over complex terrains. In the transport equation of the model, the mixed time scale is included in the production and the dissipation terms. The new model is evaluated in channel flows at various Reynolds numbers, boundary layer flows with or without pressure gradient and backward-facing step flows with different expansion ratios and Reynolds numbers. Then the grid convergence of the model is investigated. Finally, the model performance for different values of the weighting constant Cs in the mixed time scale is assessed. The results show that the proposed model reproduces the correct wall-limiting behaviour of turbulent quantities and performs well in the near-wall region of turbulent flows. The model could be expected to be adopted in hybrid Reynolds averaged Navier–Stokes/large eddy simulation methodology for complex wall-bounded flows at high Reynolds numbers.  相似文献

An thin elastic steel plate is excited with a vibrator and its local velocity displays a turbulentlike Fourier spectrum. This system is believed to develop elastic wave turbulence. We analyze here the motion of the plate with a two-point measurement in order to check, in our real system, a few hypotheses required for the Zakharov theory of weak turbulence to apply. We show that the motion of the plate is indeed a superposition of bending waves following the theoretical dispersion relation of the linear wave equation. The nonlinearities seem to efficiently break the coherence of the waves so that no modal structure is observed. Several hypotheses of the weak turbulence theory seem to be verified, but nevertheless the theoretical predictions for the wave spectrum are not verified experimentally.  相似文献

<正>Interstellar scintillation(ISS) is a well-known phenomenon observed from pulsars in the Milky Way. It comprises intensity variations vs. time and frequency caused by constructive and destructive interference from multipath propagation, which is due to diffraction from fluctuations in electron density in the interstellar medium(ISM) on scales as small as ~100 km. These density fluctuations appear to be part of a turbulence process combined with discrete structures in electron density from...  相似文献

We present a model for compressible sub-Alfvénic isothermal magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence in low- beta plasmas and numerically test it. We separate MHD fluctuations into three distinct families: Alfvén, slow, and fast modes. We find that production of slow and fast modes by Alfvénic turbulence is suppressed. As a result, Alfvén modes in compressible regime exhibit scalings and anisotropy similar to those in incompressible regime. Slow modes passively mimic Alfvén modes. However, fast modes show isotropy and a scaling similar to acoustic turbulence.  相似文献

Turbulent flow in an axially rotating pipe, involving complicated physical mecha- nism of turbulence, is a typical problem for the study of rotating turbulent flow. The pipe rotation induces two effects on the flow. One is the stabilizing effect due to the centrifu- gal and Coriolis forces, which accounts for the relaminarization of the turbulence[1—3] and the reduction of the friction coefficient at the pipe wall. The behavior is also related to the wall streaks inclining to the azimuthal di…  相似文献

Based on our recent source plane formulation, the propagation characteristics of Mathieu–Gaussian beams in turbulent atmosphere are investigated. In this connection, the average receiver plane intensity expression is deduced using the Huygens–Fresnel integral. Our results offered in the form of graphical illustrations reveal that, for some settings of source and propagation parameters, the center of the source beam is evacuated after propagation, while the initially smaller side lobes begin to grow. In a parallel development, the angular distribution of the beam also changes. At small Gaussian source sizes and transverse components of the wave vector, the source beam profile remains almost invariant throughout the propagation. The larger refractive index structure constant values cause the final Gaussian beam profile to be attained at earlier propagation distances. Smaller refractive index structure constants, on the other hand, do not change the beam profile substantially from that of free space.  相似文献

We study the possibility of obtaining a computational turbulence model by means of non-dissipative regularisation of the compressible atmospheric equations for climate-type applications. We use an α-regularisation (Lagrangian averaging) of the atmospheric equations. For the hydrostatic and compressible atmospheric equations discretised using a finite volume method on unstructured grids, deterministic and non-deterministic numerical experiments are conducted to compare the individual solutions and the statistics of the regularised equations to those of the original model. The impact of the regularisation parameter is investigated. Our results confirm the principal compatibility of α-regularisation with atmospheric dynamics and encourage further investigations within atmospheric model including complex physical parametrisations.  相似文献

We present a numerical study of enhanced diffusion, for which the mean-squared displacement follows asymptotically r 2(t) t , > 1. We simulate continuous time random walks with waiting-time distributions which couple the spatial and temporal parameters; this gives rise to Lévy-walks. Our results confirm the theoretically predicted long-time behavior and demonstrate its temporal regime of validity. Furthermore, the simulations document the appearance of (parameter-dependent) transitions between regular and enhanced diffusion regimes.  相似文献

Algebraic Reynolds stress model (ARSM) is often employed in practical turbulent flow simulations. Most of previous works on ARSM have been carried out for incompressible flows. In the present paper, a new ARSM model is suggested for compressible flows. The model adopts a compressibility factor function involving the turbulent Mach number and the gradient Mach number. Compared to incompressible flow, explicit solution for ARSM for compressible flow can hardly be obtained due to dilatation terms. We propose approximate representations for these dilatation-related terms to obtain an explicit procedure for compressible flow turbulence. The model is applied to compressible mixing layer, supersonic flat-plate boundary and planar supersonic wake flow. It is found that the model works very well yielding results that are in good agreement with the DNS and the experimental data.  相似文献

Supersonic turbulent flows of magnetized gas are believed to play an important role in the dynamics of star-forming clouds in galaxies. Understanding statistical properties of such flows is crucial for developing a theory of star formation. In this Letter we propose a unified approach for obtaining the velocity scaling in compressible and super-Alfvénic turbulence, valid for the arbitrary sonic Mach number, M(S). We demonstrate with numerical simulations that the scaling can be described with the She-Lévêque formalism, where only one parameter, interpreted as the Hausdorff dimension of the most intense dissipative structures, needs to be varied as a function of M(S). Our results thus provide a method for obtaining the velocity scaling in interstellar clouds once their Mach numbers have been inferred from observations.  相似文献

This paper describes the evolution of surface capillary waves of deep water excited by gradually increasing the lateral external force at a single frequency. The vertical velocities of the water surface are measured by using a Polytec Laser Vibrometer with a thin layer of aluminium powder scattering on the surface to reflect the laser beam. Nonlinear interaction processes result in a stationary Fourier spectrum of the vertical surface velocities (the same as the surface elevation), i.e. Iω -ω^-3-5. The observed spectrum can be interpreted as a wave-turbulent Kolmogorov spectrum for the case of ‘narrowband pumping' for a direct cascade of energy. Correlation dimension analysis of the whole development process reveals four distinct stages during the wave structure development and identifies the wave turbulence stage.  相似文献

Rescaling the equations of eliminating small scales, the physical justification for the-expansion procedure in the RNG theory of turbulence is proposed, in terms of that the inertial effects are small comparing with the viscous effects at the vicinity of the Kolmogorov dissipation wavenumber. We are grateful to Professor Chao-Hao Gu for numerous helpful suggestions. We would also like to acknowledge Professor Ke-Lin Wang and Bing-Hong Wang for many stimulating discussions of these problems.  相似文献
