We establish duality and vanishing results for the cohomology of the Weil group of a p-adic field. Among them is a duality theorem for finitely generated modules, which implies Tate–Nakayama Duality. We prove comparison results with Galois cohomology, which imply that the cohomology of the Weil group determines that of the Galois group. When the module is defined by an abelian variety, we use these comparison results to establish a duality theorem analogous to Tate?s duality theorem for abelian varieties over p-adic fields.  相似文献

We study the first cohomology groups of a countable discrete group G with coefficients in a G-module ?Φ(G), where Φ is an N-function of class Δ2(0) ∩ ?2(0). Developing the ideas of Puls and Martin-Valette for a finitely generated group G, we introduce the discrete Φ-Laplacian and prove a theorem on the decomposition of the space of Φ-Dirichlet finite functions into the direct sum of the spaces of Φ-harmonic functions and ?Φ(G) (with an appropriate factorization). We prove also that if a finitely generated group G has a finitely generated infinite amenable subgroup with infinite centralizer then \(\bar H^1\) (G, ?Φ(G)) = 0. In conclusion, we show the triviality of the first cohomology group for the wreath product of two groups one of which is nonamenable.  相似文献

We construct rank varieties for the Drinfeld double of the Taft algebra Λn and for uq(sl2). For the Drinfeld double when n=2 this uses a result which identifies a family of subalgebras that control projectivity of Λ-modules whenever Λ is a Hopf algebra satisfying a certain homological condition. In this case we show that our rank variety is homeomorphic to the cohomological support variety. We also show that Ext(M,M) is finitely generated over the cohomology ring of the Drinfeld double for any finitely generated module M.  相似文献

Relying on the computation of the André-Quillen homology groups for unstable Hopf algebras, we prove that if the mod p cohomology of both the fiber and the base in an H-fibration is finitely generated as algebra over the Steenrod algebra, then so is the mod p cohomology of the total space. In particular, the mod p cohomology of the n-connected cover of a finite H-space is always finitely generated as algebra over the Steenrod algebra.  相似文献

The Hochschild cohomology of a DG algebra A with coefficients in itself is, up to a suspension of degrees, a graded Lie algebra. The purpose of this paper is to prove that a certain DG Lie algebra of derivations appears as a finite codimensional graded sub Lie algebra of this Lie algebra when A is a strongly homotopy commutative algebra whose homology is concentrated in finitely many degrees. This result has interesting implications for the free the loop space homology which we explore here as well.  相似文献

The local cohomology modules HJ I(M) of a Matlis reflexive module are shown to be I-cofinite when j >= 1 and have finite Bass numbers when j >= 0, where I is an ideal satisfying any one of a list of properties. In addition, we show that the completion of a Matlis reflexive module is finitely generated over the completion of the ring and we classify Matlis reflexive modules over a one dimensional ring.  相似文献

The property that the polynomial cohomology with coefficients of a finitely generated discrete group is canonically isomorphic to the group cohomology is called the (weak) isocohomological property for the group. In the case when a group is of type HF, i.e. that has a classifying space with the homotopy type of a polyhedral complex with finitely many cells in each dimension, we show that the isocohomological property is geometric and is equivalent to the property that the universal cover of the classifying space has polynomially bounded higher Dehn functions. If a group is hyperbolic relative to a collection of subgroups, each of which is polynomially combable, respectively HF and isocohomological, then we show that the group itself has these respective properties. Combining with the results of Connes-Moscovici and Dru?u-Sapir we conclude that a group satisfies the strong Novikov conjecture if it is hyperbolic relative to subgroups which are of property RD, of type HF and isocohomological.  相似文献

To a topological group G, we assign a naive G-spectrum , called the dualizing spectrum of G. When the classifying space BG is finitely dominated, we show that detects Poincaré duality in the sense that BG is a Poincaré duality space if and only if is a homotopy finite spectrum. Secondly, we show that the dualizing spectrum behaves multiplicatively on certain topological group extensions. In proving these results we introduce a new tool: a norm map which is defined for any G and for any naive G-spectrum E. Applications of the dualizing spectrum come in two flavors: (i) applications in the theory of Poincaré duality spaces, and (ii) applications in the theory of group cohomology. On the Poincaré duality space side, we derive a homotopy theoretic solution to a problem posed by Wall which says that in a fibration sequence of fini the total space satisfies Poincaré duality if and only if the base and fiber do. The dualizing spectrum can also be used to give an entirely homotopy theoretic construction of the Spivak fibration of a finitely dominated Poincaré duality space. We also include a new proof of Browder's theorem that every finite H-space satisfies Poincaré duality. In connection with group cohomology, we show how to define a variant of Farrell-Tate cohomology for any topological or discrete group G, with coefficients in any naive equivariant cohomology theory E. When E is connective, and when G admits a subgroup H of finite index such that BH is finitely dominated, we show that this cohomology coincides with the ordinary cohomology of G with coefficients in E in degrees greater than the cohomological dimension of H. In an appendix, we identify the homotopy type of for certain kinds of groups. The class includes all compact Lie groups, torsion free arithmetic groups and Bieri-Eckmann duality groups. In this paper we present a method to compute the real cohomology of any finitely generated virtually nilpotent group. The main ingredient in our setup consists of a polynomial crystallographic action of this group. As any finitely generated virtually nilpotent group admits such an action (which can be constructed quite easily), the approach we present applies to all these groups. Our main result is an algorithmic way of computing these cohomology spaces. As a first application, we prove a kind of Poincaré duality (also in the nontorsion free case) and we derive explicit formulas in the virtually abelian case.

We analyze k-stage formality and relate resonance with this type of formality properties. For instance, we show that, for a finitely generated nilpotent group that is k-stage formal, the resonance varieties are trivial up to degree k. We also show that the cohomology ring, truncated up to degree k+1, of a finitely generated nilpotent, k-stage formal group is generated in degree 1; this criterion is necessary and sufficient for a finitely generated, 2-step nilpotent group to be k-stage formal. We compute resonance varieties for Heisenberg-type groups and deduce the degree of partial formality for this class of groups.  相似文献

This paper aims to study low dimensional cohomology of Hom-Lie algebras and the qdeformed W(2, 2) algebra. We show that the q-deformed W(2, 2) algebra is a Hom-Lie algebra. Also,we establish a one-to-one correspondence between the equivalence classes of one-dimensional central extensions of a Hom-Lie algebra and its second cohomology group, leading us to determine the second cohomology group of the q-deformed W(2, 2) algebra. In addition, we generalize some results of derivations of finitely generated Lie algebras with values in graded modules to Hom-Lie algebras. As application, we compute all αk-derivations and in particular the first cohomology group of the q-deformed W(2, 2) algebra.  相似文献

In this paper we study local duality and the vanishing and non-vanishing of generalized local cohomology. In particular for a local ring R and a finitely generated R-module N, the category $N^\bot$ of finitely generated R-modules M with $H^{i}_{\frak m}(M, N) = 0$ for all i depth N is studied.Received: 31 October 2002  相似文献

Let C be a small category and R a commutative ring with identity. The cohomology ring of C with coefficients in R is defined as the cohomology ring of the topological realization of its nerve. First we give an example showing that this ring modulo nilpotents is not finitely generated in general, even when the category is finite EI. Then we study the relationship between the cohomology ring of a category and those of its subcategories and extensions. The main results generalize certain theorems in group cohomology theory.  相似文献

Following our previous work about quasi-projective dimension [11], in this paper, we introduce quasi-injective dimension as a generalization of injective dimension. We recover several well-known results about injective and Gorenstein-injective dimensions in the context of quasi-injective dimension such as the following. (a) If the quasi-injective dimension of a finitely generated module M over a local ring R is finite, then it is equal to the depth of R. (b) If there exists a finitely generated module of finite quasi-injective dimension and maximal Krull dimension, then R is Cohen-Macaulay. (c) If there exists a nonzero finitely generated module with finite projective dimension and finite quasi-injective dimension, then R is Gorenstein. (d) Over a Gorenstein local ring, the quasi-injective dimension of a finitely generated module is finite if and only if its quasi-projective dimension is finite.  相似文献

We study Poincaré duality algebras over the field F2 of two elements. After introducing a connected sum operation for such algebras we compute the corresponding Grothendieck group of surface algebras (i.e., Poincaré algebras of formal dimension 2). We show that the corresponding group for 3-folds (i.e., algebras of formal dimension 3) is not finitely generated, but does have a Krull-Schmidt property. We then examine the isomorphism classes of 3-folds with at most three generators of degree 3, provide a complete classification, settle which such occur as the cohomology of a smooth 3-manifold, and list separating invariants. The closing section and Appendix A provide several different means of constructing connected sum indecomposable 3-folds.  相似文献

For a left pure semisimple ring R, it is shown that the local duality establishes a bijection between the preinjective left R-modules and the preprojective right R-modules, and any preinjective left R-module is the source of a left almost split morphism. Moreover, if there are no nonzero homomorphisms from preinjective modules to non-preinjective indecomposable modules in R-mod, the direct sum of all non-preinjective indecomposable direct summands of products of preinjective left R-modules is a finitely generated product-complete module. This generalizes a recent theorem of Angeleri Hügel [L. Angeleri Hügel, A key module over pure-semisimple hereditary rings, J. Algebra 307 (2007) 361-376] for hereditary rings.  相似文献

We show that every finitely generated group admits weak analogues of an invariant expectation, whose existence characterizes exact groups. This fact has a number of applications. We show that Hopf G-modules are relatively injective, which implies that bounded cohomology groups with coefficients in all Hopf G-modules vanish in all positive degrees. We also prove a general fixed point theorem for actions of finitely generated groups on ?-type spaces. Finally, we define the notion of weak exactness for certain Banach algebras.  相似文献

We study functors underlying derived Hochschild cohomology, also called Shukla cohomology, of a commutative algebra S essentially of finite type and of finite flat dimension over a commutative noetherian ring K. We construct a complex of S-modules D, and natural reduction isomorphisms for all complexes of S-modules N and all complexes M of finite flat dimension over K whose homology H(M) is finitely generated over S; such isomorphisms determine D up to derived isomorphism. Using Grothendieck duality theory we establish analogous isomorphisms for any essentially finite-type flat map of noetherian schemes, with f!OY in place of D.  相似文献

Let C be a small category and k a field. There are two interesting mathematical subjects: the category algebra kC and the classifying space |C|=BC. We study the ring homomorphism HH(kC)→H(|C|,k) and prove it is split surjective, using the factorization category of Quillen [D. Quillen, Higher algebraic K-theory I, in: Lecture Notes in Math., vol. 341, Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 1973, pp. 85-147] and certain techniques from functor cohomology theory. This generalizes the well-known theorems for groups and posets. Based on this result, we construct a seven-dimensional category algebra whose Hochschild cohomology ring modulo nilpotents is not finitely generated, disproving a conjecture of Snashall and Solberg [N. Snashall, Ø. Solberg, Support varieties and Hochschild cohomology rings, Proc. London Math. Soc. 88 (3) (2004) 705-732].  相似文献

Suppose B is an algebra with a stratifying ideal BeB generated by an idempotent e. We will establish long exact sequences relating the Hochschild cohomology groups of the three algebras B, B/BeB and eBe. This provides a common generalization of various known results, all of which extend Happel’s long exact sequence for one-point extensions. Applying one of these sequences to Hochschild cohomology algebras modulo the ideal generated by homogeneous nilpotent elements shows, in some cases, that these algebras are finitely generated.  相似文献
