Numerical solutions to the Frank-Kamenetskii partial differential equation modelling a thermal explosion in a cylindrical vessel are obtained using the hopscotch scheme. We observe that a nonlinear source term in the equation leads to numerical difficulty and hence adjust the scheme to accommodate such a term. Numerical solutions obtained via MATLAB, MATHEMATICA and the Crank-Nicolson implicit scheme are employed as a means of comparison. To gain insight into the accuracy of the hopscotch scheme the solution is compared to a power series solution obtained via the Lie group method. The numerical solution is also observed to converge to a well-known steady state solution. A linear stability analysis is performed to validate the stability of the results obtained.  相似文献

In order to stabilize an unstable solution to Navier-Stokes equations with the help of boundary conditions, a discrete analogue of the algorithm proposed by A. V. Fursikov in the differential case is constructed. A Quette flow between rotating cylinders is taken as an unstable solution. An analytical solution has been obtained for the current response transients to a potentiostatic step for a corrosion reaction where a planar metal electrode is immersed in an acidic electrolyte. This solution can be used to provide values of important kinetic parameters of the reaction such as corrosion current and Tafel slopes. The model is derived for conditions of mixed charge transfer and diffusion control and includes the metal ion deposition partial reaction. A Nernstian diffusion model is used, where anodic and cathodic species diffuse in a finite diffusive layer. A numerical solution has previously been published [1], but it is believed that this is the first time an analytical solution has been presented. Transients obtained by including both the metal dissolution and metal-ion deposition (back) reactions, are compared to those obtained by neglecting the metalion deposition reaction. It is shown that neglecting the back reaction can cause significant errors especially when large cathodic potential steps are applied and as the corrosion current approaches the limiting current density of the cathodic reaction.  相似文献

A comprehensible and unified system control approach is presented to solve a class of production/inventory smoothing problems. A nonstationary, non-Gaussian, finite-time linear optimal solution with an attractive computation scheme is obtained for a general quadratic and linear cost structure. A complete solution to a classical production/inventory control problem is given as an example. A general solution to the discrete-time optimal regulator with arbitrary but known disturbance is provided and discussed in detail. A computationally attractive closed-loop suboptimal scheme is presented for problems with constraints or nonquadratic costs. Implementation and interpretation of the results are discussed.  相似文献

A weakly coupled convection dominated system of m-equations is analyzed. A higher order accurate asymptotic-numerical method is presented. The solutions of convection dominated problem are known to exhibit multi-scale character. There exist narrow region across the boundary of the domain where the solution exhibit steep gradient. This region is termed as boundary layer region and the solution of problem is said to have a boundary layer. Outside of this region, the solution of system behaves smoothly. To capture this multi-scale nature given system is factorized into two explicit systems. The degenerate system of initial value problems (IVPs), obtained by setting ??=?0, corresponds to the smooth solution, which lies outside of boundary layers. For solution inside boundary layers, a system of boundary value problems (BVPs) is obtained using stretching transformation. Regardless of this simple factorization, solutions of these systems preserve the key features of the given coupled system. Runge–Kutta method is used to solve the degenerate system of IVPs, whereas the system of BVPs is solved analytically. Stability and consistency of the proposed method is established. A uniform convergence of higher order is obtained. Possible extension to differential difference equations are also brought to attention. A comparative study of the present method with some state of art existing numerical schemes is carried out by means of several test problems. The results so obtained demonstrate the effectiveness and potential of present approach.  相似文献

A semianalytical approach to nonlinear fluid film forces of a hydrodynamic journal bearing with two axial grooves under the cavitation boundary condition is proposed. The pressure distribution of the Reynolds equation of a finitely long journal bearing with axial grooves is expressed as a particular solution and a homogeneous solution. The particular solution and the homogeneous solution are separated, respectively, into an additive form and a multiplicative form by the method of separation of variables. The circumferential separable function of the homogeneous solution can be expanded on the basis of the infinite series of trigonometric functions. The pressure distribution of the particular solution is obtained by the Sommerfeld transformation. The termination positions of the fluid film are determined by the continuity condition. The analytical expressions for the nonlinear fluid film forces of a finitely long journal bearing with two axial grooves are obtained. The fluid film forces calculated by the proposed method agree well with the results obtained by the finite-difference method. The effects of the bearing parameters on the nonlinear fluid film forces are analyzed.  相似文献

We investigate the nonlinear boundary value problem (BVP) that is derived from a similarity transformation of the Navier-Stokes equations governing fluid flow toward a stretching permeable cylinder. Existence of a solution is proven for all values of the Reynolds number and for both suction and injection, and uniqueness results are obtained in the case of a monotonic solution. A priori bounds on the skin friction coefficient are also obtained. These bounds achieve any desired order of accuracy as the injection parameter tends to negative infinity.  相似文献

The main purpose of this paper is to demonstrate a real-world application of pure integer programming to find the optimum solution to a labour cost problem. The length of a daily working shift is defined as an integer variable and several shift strategies are analysed to determine the optimum length and shift combinations that satisfy a predicted demand at minimum cost. The state-space model has been used to predict the stochastic behaviour of monthly demands for beer and soft drink. Savings of about 7% of the annual sales have been obtained as a result of implementing the integer programming approach. A numerical example shows that the solution obtained by rounding off the continuous optimal solution does not match with the integer optimal solution. It was also noted that if a rounded-off solution is feasible, then it provides an initial integer solution for the branch-and-bound algorithm that may reduce the computational time.  相似文献

The behaviour of the solution of the boundary value problem for a pseudodifferential equation (PDE), Green's function of this problem, and also some of their local and global characteristics, during variation of the domain is investigated. Formulas are proposed that enable the solution of a broad class of PDE in a domain to be expressed in terms of the solution in the near domain. Local characteristics of the solution are expressed in terms of the local characteristics of the solution in the near domain. A double asymptotic form of Green's function for both arguments tending to the domain boundary occurs in the variation formula. The variation of this double asymptotic form as the domain varies is expressed in terms of this same asymptotic form. The system of variation formulas obtained is closed. It enables the PDE solution in the domain to be reduced to the solution of an ordinary differential equation in functional space. The local characteristics of the solution can also be found by this method without calculating the solution itself. If there is sufficient symmetry in the initial operator, then conservation laws in the Noether sense are obtained for its Green's function and its asymptotic form. The behaviour of the quantities under investigation is studied under inversion.

The investigation of variations of the solutions of problems for the variation of the domain occurs in the paper by Hadamard /1/, who studied the variation in conformal mapping and obtained a formula similar to (1.4). The formula for the variation of the solution of the boundary value problem for an elliptic differential equation is obtained in /2/. Variation formulas for the case of the operator of the problem about a crack and a circular domain are obtained in /3, 4/. The Irwin formula /5/ is obtained from formulas (1.4) and (1.21) by substitution.  相似文献

An analytical solution is presented for the 3D static response of variable stiffness non-uniform composite beams. Based on Euler-Bernoulli theory, a set of governing differential equations are obtained, in which four degrees of freedom are fully coupled. For the variable stiffness beam, the governing field equations have variable coefficients reflecting the stiffness variation along the beam. Using the direct integration technique, the general analytical solution is derived in the integral form and the closed-form expressions of the obtained solutions are presented employing a series expansion approximation. The series expansion representation enables the proposed approach to be applicable for variable stiffness composite beams with arbitrary span-wise variation of properties. As an alternative solution, the Chebyshev collocation method is applied to the proposed formulation to verify the results obtained from the analytical solution. A number of variable stiffness composite beams made by fibre steering with various boundary conditions and stacking sequences are considered as the test cases. The static response are presented based on the analytical solution and Chebyshev collocation method and excellent agreement is observed for all test cases. The proposed model presents a reliable and efficient approach for capturing the complicated behaviour of variable stiffness non-uniform composite beams.  相似文献

A general solution of the equations of plane isothermal motions of an ideal gas without expansions is obtained. A method of reducing the overdetermined system of differential equations to an involution is proposed, which consists of obtaining integrable relations. All representations of the solution in time are obtained: polynomial, harmonic and biharmonic, and representations of linearly and exponentially increasing harmonics. All the representations give solutions of the overdetermined system, among which there are all the solutions with linear velocity fields, obtained by Ovsyannikov.  相似文献

We study some questions of the qualitative theory of differential equations. A Cauchy problem is considered for a hyperbolic system of two first-order differential equations whose right-hand sides contain some discontinuous functions. A generalized solution is defined as a continuous solution to the corresponding system of integral equations. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a generalized solution and study the differential properties of the obtained solution. In particular, its first-order partial derivatives are unbounded near certain parts of the characteristic lines. We observe that this property contradicts the common approach which uses the reduction of a system of two first-order equations to a single second-order equation.  相似文献

The general solution of ati elasticity theory problem for a constant thickness plate is constructed under the condition that a force and a nonuniformly heated plate are applied normally to the boundary planes. The solution is obtained as a result of applying the M.E. Vashchenko-Zakharchenko expansion formulas to the infinitely high-order differential equations obtained by A.I. Lur'e by a symbolic method [1,2], by a separate analysis of the symmetric and antisymmetric elasticity theory problems relative to the middle plane: 1) for constant temperature and given forces on the boundary planes; 2) for a given nonuniform heating and no forces. Simple formulas are presented to determine the state of stress in the case of a slowly varying external load and temperature of the unbounded plate. For a bounded plate the general solution for no forces on the boundary planes and heating resulted in the A.I. Lur'e solution [1].  相似文献

Boundary value problems for loaded third-order pseudo-parabolic equations with variable coefficients are considered. A priori estimates for the solutions of the problems in the differential and difference formulations are obtained. These a priori estimates imply the uniqueness and stability of the solution with respect to the initial data and the right-hand side on a layer, as well as the convergence of the solution of each difference problem to the solution of the corresponding differential problem.  相似文献

A problem of expansion of nonlinear waves in a heterogeneous media is considered, this problem is described by a Burgers equation with a stochastic right-hand side. The structure of positive radial solutions to a class of quasilinear elliptic equations with critical and supercritical growth is precisely studied.
