Abstract— Octa-aL-alkyloxy-substituted Zn-phthalocyanines are an interesting class of far red-absorbing photosensitizers. The chemical structure, the calculated steric conformation, the observed linear optical properties and an anomalous luminescence from a higher than S, excited state are reported. To study the optical properties of higher excited states and their occupation dynamics up to delay times of 15 ns we have carried out measurements of transient absorption spectra after 14 ps pulsed, resonant B-band and Q-band excitation. From these measurements the excited state singlet-singlet and triplet-triplet spectra as well as the intersystem crossing (ISC) quantum yields are obtained. The main result is an excitation wavelength-dependent ISC quantum yield that can be explained by an additional ISC channel between higher excited singlet and triplet states. The large rate of this channel is justified by the resonance between higher triplet states, observed in the triplet-triplet spectrum and the B, absorption band. Using kinetic model calculations, a lifetime of the higher excited singlet state of some picoseconds is predicted and the influence of a two-step absorption process on the population density of this higher excited singlet state is discussed.  相似文献

Abstract We report direct femtosecond measurements of the excited state dynamics of hematoporphyrin derivative (HpD) in solution. The dynamics are found to be very sensitive to the solvent and pH of aqueous solutions. The decay of the excited singlet states is much faster in acidic and pH 7 buffer aqueous solutions (<230 ps) than in basic aqueous solutions or organic solvents (> 10 ns). The dynamical results show strong correlation with static fluorescence measurements: weaker fluorescence in acidic and pH 7 buffer solutions corresponding to shorter-lived excited states. A new fast decay component with a time constant around 5 ps is identified both in acidic aqueous solutions and in organic solvents such as acetone and attributed to internal conversion from the second to the first excited singlet state of aggregates or certain oligomers in HpD, in accord with the observation that the fast decay component is larger at a higher concentration. Oxygen is found to have no effect on the dynamics on the time scale investigated, 1 ns, indicating that oxygen quenching of the singlet excited states is insignificant on this time scale. The sensitive solvent and pH dependence of the excited state dynamics has important clinical implications in the use of HpD as a photosensitizing agent.  相似文献

The singlet excited-state properties of the block copolymers of oligothiophene and oligosilylene in solution were investigated with several fast spectroscopic methods. Time-resolved fluorescence measurements at room temperature and in a glassy matrix revealed that the singlet excited states of the block copolymers are deactivated accompanying structural changes of the polymer. It became clear from the transient absorption spectroscopy that the absorption peak of the singlet excited state shifted to the longer wavelength side compared to that of the corresponding oligothiophenes because of the sigma-pi conjugation of the oligothiophene and oligosilylene. The intersystem crossing process generating the triplet excited state was also revealed by the transient absorption spectroscopy. Energy migration along the polymer chain was revealed by the fluorescence anisotropy measurements. The time constant for the energy migration became faster as the size of the oligothiophene in the polymer repeating unit became shorter. From comparison with the F?rster theory, the energy migration process was attributed to an incoherent hopping mechanism.  相似文献

During the maturation of red wines, the anthocyanins of grapes are transformed into pyranoanthocyanins, which possess a pyranoflavylium cation as their basic chromophore. Photophysical properties of the singlet and triplet excited states of a series of synthetic pyranoflavylium cations were determined at room temperature in acetonitrile solution acidified with 0.10 mol dm?3 trifluoroacetic acid (TFA, to inhibit competitive excited state proton transfer) and at 77 K in a rigid TFA‐acidified isopropanol glass. In solution, the triplet states of these pyranoflavylium cations are efficiently quenched by molecular oxygen, resulting in sensitized formation of singlet oxygen, as confirmed by direct detection of the triplet‐state decay by laser flash photolysis and of singlet oxygen monomol emission in the near infrared. The strong visible light absorption, the relatively small singlet‐triplet energy differences, the excited state redox potentials and the reasonably long lifetimes of pyranoflavylium triplet states in the absence of molecular oxygen suggest that they might be useful as triplet sensitizers and/or as cationic redox initiators in polar aprotic solvents like acetonitrile.  相似文献

Steady state absorption and fluorescence as well as the time resolved absorption studies in the pico and subpicosecond time domain have been performed to characterize the excited singlet and triplet states of Michler's ketone (MK). The nature of the lowest excited singlet (S1) and triplet (T1) states depends on the polarity of the solvent - in nonpolar solvents they have either pure nπ * character or mixed character of nπ * and ππ * states but in more polar solvents the states have CT character. Concentration dependence of the shapes of the fluorescence as well the excited singlet and triplet absorption spectra provide the evidence for the association of the MK molecules in the ground state.  相似文献

Meso-tetra(hydroxyphenyl)chlorin (m-THPC) is a new photosensitizer developed for potential use in photodynamic therapy (PDT) for cancer treatment. In PDT, the accepted mechanism of tumor destruction involves the formation of excited singlet oxygen via intermolecular energy transfer from the excited triplet-state dye to the ground triplet-state oxygen. Femtosecond transient absorption measurements are reported here for the excited singlet state dynamics of m-THPC in solution. The observed early time kinetics were best fit using a triple exponential function with time constants of 350 fs, 80 ps and > or = 3.3 ns. The fastest decay (350 fs) was attributed to either internal conversion from S2 to S1 or vibrational relaxation in S2. Multichannel time-resolved absorption and emission spectroscopies were also used to characterize the excited singlet and triplet states of the dye on nanosecond to microsecond time scales at varying concentrations of oxygen. The nanosecond time-resolved absorption data were fit with a double exponential with time constants of 14 ns and 250 ns in ambient air, corresponding to lifetimes of the S1 and T1 states, respectively. The decay of the T1 state varied linearly with oxygen concentration, from which the intrinsic decay rate constant, ki, of 1.5 x 10(6) s-1 and the biomolecular collisional quenching constant, kc, of 1.7 x 10(9) M-1 s-1 were determined. The lifetime of the S1 state of 10 ns was confirmed by fluorescence measurements. It was found to be independent of oxygen concentration and longer than lifetimes of other photosensitizers.  相似文献

The excited‐state dynamics of pentacene derivatives with stable radical substituents were evaluated in detail through transient absorption measurements. The derivatives showed ultrafast formation of triplet excited state(s) in the pentacene moiety from a photoexcited singlet state through the contributions of enhanced intersystem crossing and singlet fission. Detailed kinetic analyses for the transient absorption data were conducted to quantify the excited‐state characteristics of the derivatives.  相似文献

In this work, we investigate the nonlinear absorption dynamics of Zn phthalocyanine in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). We used single pulse and pulse train Z-scan techniques to determine the dynamics and absorption cross-sections of singlet and triplet states at 532 nm. The excited singlet state absorption cross-section was determined to be 3.2 times higher than the ground state one, giving rise to reverse saturable absorption. We also observed that reverse saturable absorption occurs from the triplet state, after its population by intersystem crossing, whose characteristic time was determined to be 8.9 ns. The triplet state absorption cross-section determined is 2.6 times higher than the ground state one. In addition, we used the white light continuum Z-scan to evaluate the singlet excited state spectrum from 450 to 710 nm. The results show two well-defined regions, one above 600 nm, where reverse saturable absorption is predominant. Below 600 nm, we detected a strong saturable absorption. A three-energy-level diagram was used to explain the experimental results, leading to the excited state absorption cross-section determination from 450 nm up to 710 nm.  相似文献

Molecular vibration and rotation play a significant role in the intramolecular photoexcitation dynamics of the so-called intermediate-case molecule, and the fluorescence intensity, decay and polarization of s-triazine vapor are shown to depend on the excited rovibronic level of the S1 state. Fluorescence characteristics are interpreted by assuming three zero-order states: (1) a zero-order singlet state that carries the absorption intensity and emits fluorescence with sharp structure; (2) zero-order singlet states that do not carry the absorption intensity but emit broad fluorescence; and (3) zero-order triplet states. The interaction among these states depends not only on the vibrational level but also on the rotational level excited. It is suggested that the number of triplet states coupled to the singlet state increases with increasing excess vibrational energy. It is also suggested that K-scrambling occurs both in the triplet manifold following intersystem crossing (ISC) and in the singlet manifold following intramolecular vibrational energy redistribution (IVR). The fluorescence intensity and decay of s-triazine vapor are significantly influenced by a magnetic field, and the field effects are interpreted in terms of the spin decoupling in the triplet manifold following ISC; the role of external magnetic fields is to mix the spin sublevels of different rovibronic levels coupled to the excited singlet state. Magnetic depolarization of fluorescence also occurs because of the efficient interaction between the excited singlet state and the triplet state.  相似文献

One of the major drawbacks of organic‐dye‐modified self‐assembled monolayers on metal nanoparticles when employed for efficient use of light energy is the fact that singlet excited states on dye molecules can be easily deactivated by means of energy transfer to the metal surface. In this study, a series of 6,13‐bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl)pentacene–alkanethiolate monolayer protected gold nanoparticles with different particle sizes and alkane chain lengths were successfully synthesized and were employed for the efficient generation of excited triplet states of the pentacene derivatives by singlet fission. Time‐resolved transient absorption measurements revealed the formation of excited triplet states in high yield (172±26 %) by suppressing energy transfer to the gold surface.  相似文献

Abstract— –Estimation of lowest excited triplet and singlet state dissociation constants of some nitro-aromatic acids and bases, from shifts in their phosphorescence and absorption spectra, respectively, indicate that intramolecular charge transfer to the nitro group is much more important in the lowest excited singlet state than in the ground or lowest excited triplet states. As a result, the effect of a nitro group on the acidity of the lowest excited singlet state of an acid or base is more exaggerated than that on the ground or lowest excited triplet state of the same compound. Furthermore, the basicity of the nitro group is greatly enhanced in the lowest excited singlet state. On this basis the increased rate of photoreduction of nitrobenzene in acidic solutions is found to be thermodynamically unfeasible in the lowest excited triplet state. Although the reaction is thermodynamically feasible in the lowest excited singlet state, the short lifetime of that state may make the reaction kinetically unfeasible. Rate-Hammett acidity profiles are therefore inadequate to alone establish the mechanism of photoreduction of nitrobenzene.  相似文献

The photophysics of the 1-nitronaphthalene molecular system, after the absorption transition to the first singlet excited state, is theoretically studied for investigating the ultrafast multiplicity change to the triplet manifold. The consecutive transient absorption spectra experimentally observed in this molecular system are also studied. To identify the electronic states involved in the nonradiative decay, the minimum energy path of the first singlet excited state is obtained using the complete active space self-consistent field∕∕configurational second-order perturbation approach. A near degeneracy region was found between the first singlet and the second triplet excited states with large spin-orbit coupling between them. The intersystem crossing rate was also evaluated. To support the proposed deactivation model the transient absorption spectra observed in the experiments were also considered. For this, computer simulations using sequential quantum mechanic-molecular mechanic methodology was used to consider the solvent effect in the ground and excited states for proper comparison with the experimental results. The absorption transitions from the second triplet excited state in the relaxed geometry permit to describe the transient absorption band experimentally observed around 200 fs after the absorption transition. This indicates that the T(2) electronic state is populated through the intersystem crossing presented here. The two transient absorption bands experimentally observed between 2 and 45 ps after the absorption transition are described here as the T(1)→T(3) and T(1)→T(5) transitions, supporting that the intermediate triplet state (T(2)) decays by internal conversion to T(1).  相似文献

The Half-Projected-Hartree-Fock procedure (HPHF) for determining singlet ground states is briefly described and extended to the direct determination of singlet excited states. The procedure is applied, using a [7s,3p/2s,1p] basis set, to determine the optimal geometry of two relatively large molecules, to which large CI calculations cannot be easily applied. These two molecules are cyclobutanone and 3-cyclopenten-1-one in their lowest singlet (n → π) excited state. Both molecules are found to exhibit in their excited state a pyramidal structure with the carbonyl oxygen atom pointing outward from the molecular plane. RHF calculations for the singlet ground state were also performed for comparison. The theoretical geometrical parameters compare well with the experimental data.  相似文献

The absorption spectra and excited state dipole moments of four differently substituted fulvenes have been investigated both experimentally and computationally. The results reveal that the excited state dipole moment of fulvenes reverses in the first excited singlet state when compared to the ground state. The oppositely polarized electron density distributions, which dominate the ground state and the first excited singlet state of fulvenes, respectively, reflect the reversed π-electron counting rules for aromaticity in the two states (4n + 2 vs. 4n, respectively). The results show that substituents indeed influence the polarity of fulvenes in the two states, however, cooperative interactions between the substituents and the fulvene moiety are most pronounced in the ground state.  相似文献

Singlet and triplet low-lying states of the 4-dimethylaminobenzonitrile and its derivatives have been studied by the density functional theory and ab initio methodologies. Calculations reveal that the existence of the methyl groups in the phenyl ring and the amino twisting significantly modify properties of their excited states. A twisted singlet intramolecular charge-transfer state can be accessed through decay of the second planar singlet excited state with charge-transfer character along the amino twisting coordinate or by an intramolecular charge-transfer reaction involved with a locally first excited singlet state. Plausible charge-transfer triplet states and intersystem crossing processes among singlet and triplet states have been explored by spin-orbit coupling calculations. The intersystem crossing process was predicted to be the dominant deactivation channel of the photoexcited 4-dimethylaminobenzonitrile.  相似文献

Interactions of carbonyl singlet and triplet excited states with peroxides and hydroperoxides were examined in order to ascertain the reasons why the latter two compounds act as nearly diffusion controlled quenchers of ketone-containing polymer photodegradation. From singlet state fluorescence quenching and laser flash photolysis measurements of triplet decays, direct interaction with the carbonyl excited states was ruled out. These processes occurred with rate constants at least one to two orders of magnitude below the diffusion controlled limit. Trapping of the 1,4-biradical precursor to chain scission, thereby preventing its disproportionation was also tentatively eliminated. Results obtained using benzoyl peroxide suggest that quencher photodissociation into alkoxy radicals might represent the key step in the quenching of ketone-containing polymer photodegradation.  相似文献

Quasilinear absorption and luminescence spectra of 1,2-benzotetraphene were obtained in polycrystalline matrices at 77 K. Tne energies of successive excited singlet states as well as the energy of the lowest excited triplet state were found experimentally and compared with those calculated by the PPP CI method. The fluorescence lifetime and quantum yield were determined experimentally. Moreover, the radiationless transition probabilities, lifetime of triplet state and phosphorescence quantum yield were estimated employing the Siebrand-Williams model. The results obtained suggest that radiationless ISC processes are the main deactivation channel of the S1 and T1 states. The vibrational analysis of quasilinear absorption and luminescence spectra was performed and fundamental frequencies of ground and first excited singlet states were determined.  相似文献

The equilibrium geometries and harmonic vibrational frequencies of three low-lying triplet excited states of vinyl chloride have been calculated using the state-averaged complete active space self-consistent field (CASSCF) method with the 6-311++G(d,p) basis set and an active space of four electrons distributed in 13 orbitals. Both adiabatic and vertical excitation energies have been obtained using the state-averaged CASSCF and the multireference configuration-interaction methods. The potential-energy surfaces of six low-lying singlet states have also been calculated. While the 3(pi, pi*) state has a nonplanar equilibrium structure, the 3(pi, 3s) and 3(pi, sigma*) states are planar. The calculated vertical excitation energy of the 3(pi, pi*) state is in agreement with the experiment. The singlet excited states are found to be multiconfigurational, in particular, the first excited state is of (pi, 3s) character at the planar equilibrium structure, of (pi, sigma*) as the C-Cl bond elongates, and of (pi, pi*) for highly twisted geometries. Avoided crossings are observed between the potential-energy surfaces of the first three singlet excited states. The absorption spectra of vinyl chloride at 5.5-6.5 eV can be unambiguously assigned to the transitions from the ground state to the first singlet excited state. The dissociation of Cl atoms following 193-nm excitation is concluded to take place via two pathways: one is through (pi, sigma*) at planar or nearly planar structures leading to fast Cl atoms and the other through (pi, pi*) at twisted geometries from which internal conversion to the ground state and subsequent dissociation produces slow Cl atoms.  相似文献

In the present study, a selection of basic substitution patterns on benzoyl(trimethyl)germane was investigated using time‐dependent density‐functional theory (TDDFT) to explore the influence on the stability and on the relative order of the lowest excited electronic states. The theoretical results are in agreement with absorption and fluorescence measurements. We show that electron‐withdrawing groups decrease the energetic level of the lowest singlet and triplet state relative to the electron‐pushing systems resulting in red‐shifted radiative transitions (fluorescence). In the first triplet state electron‐withdrawing groups lead to an increased dissociation barrier and a close approach with the singlet ground state before the transition state in the triplet state is reached, favoring radiationless ground‐state recovery. The results are also in good agreement with empirical concepts of organic chemistry, therefore providing simple rules for synthetic strategies towards tuning the excited‐state properties of benzoylgermanes.  相似文献
