The field emission properties of electrophoretic deposition(EPD) carbon nanotubes (CNTs) film have been improved by depositing CNTs onto the titanium (Ti)-coated Si substrate, followed by vacuum annealing at 900 °C for 2 h, and the enhanced emission mechanism has been studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Raman spectroscopy. Field emission measurements showed that the threshold electric field was decreased and the emission current stability was improved compared to that of EPD CNTs film on bare Si substrate. XRD and Raman spectroscopy investigations revealed that vacuum annealing treatment not only decreased the structural defects of CNTs but made a titanium carbide interfacial layer formed between CNTs and substrate. The field emission enhancement could be attributed to the improved graphitization of CNTs and the improved contact properties between CNTs and substrate including electrical conductivity and adhesive strength due to the formed conductive titanium carbide.  相似文献

A new preparation process for carbon nanotubes (CNTs) cold cathode was studied through the replacement of traditional organic or inorganic binder with Ag nano-particles. This method has the advantages of low preparation temperature and fine electrical contact between CNTs paste and substrate. A mixture paste of CNTs, Ag nano-particles and other organic solvents was spreaded on Si substrate. By melting and connecting of Ag nano-particles after sintered 30 min at 250 °C, a flat CNTs films with good field emission properties was obtained. The measurements reveal that the turn on electric field and the threshold electric field of as-prepared CNTs cathode are 2.1 and 3.9 V/μm respectively and the field emission current density is up to 41 mA/cm2 at an applied electric field of 4.7 V/μm.

Field emission properties of carbon nanotube field emission cathodes (CNT-FECs) produced using composite plating are studied. The experiment uses a CNT suspension and electroless Ni plating bath to carry out composite plating. The CNTs were first purified by an acid solution, dispersed in a Ni electrobath, and finally co-deposited with Ni on glass substrates to synthesize electrically conductive films. Field emission scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy results show that the field emission characteristics and graphitic properties of CNT-FECs depend on the pH value of the electrobath. Experiments show that the optimum electrobath pH value is 5.4, achieving a field emission current density of 1.0 mA/cm2 at an applied electric field of 1.5 V/μm. The proposed CNT-FECs possess good field emission characteristics and have potential for backlight unit application in liquid crystal displays.  相似文献

Thermionic emission from vertically grown carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by water-assisted chemical vapor deposition (WA-CVD) is investigated. I-V characteristics of WA-CNT samples exhibit strong Schottky effect leading to field proportionality factor β ∼ 104 cm−1in contrast to β ∼ 200 cm−1 for the bare tungsten substrate. Non-contact atomic force microscopy imaging of CNT samples show propensity of nanoasperities over a scale of micron size over which the tungsten surface is seen to be atomically smooth. The values of root mean-square roughness for CNTs and W were found to be 24.2 nm and 0.44 nm respectively. The Richardson-Dushman plots yield work function values of ΦCNT ? 4.5 and ΦW ? 4.3 eV. Current versus time data shows that CNT cathodes are fifteen times noisier than tungsten cathode presumably due to increased importance of individual atomic events on the sharp CNT tips of bristle like structures. Power spectral density of current exhibited 1/fξ behavior with ξ ? 1.5, and 2 for W and CNTs. The former suggests surface diffusion whereas the latter indicates adsorption/desorption of atomic/molecular species as a dominant mechanism of noise generation.  相似文献

The properties of carbon nanotube (CNT) field emission cathodes fabricated by a dip coating method with trivalent chromium conversion coated substrates are studied. Two kinds of substrates with different morphologies, one with a rough crackled surface and the other with a smooth surface, were used for making the CNT cathodes, and their I-V curves and emission patterns were evaluated. The results show that, as compared to the smooth substrate surface, the rough surface with self-assembled sub-micro-cracks on the substrate can dramatically enhance the uniformity of the emission pattern and the emission efficiency. The cathode fabricated with the crackled substrate shows good field emission properties such as high brightness, good uniformity, a low turn-on field (0.86 V/μm) and a high current density of 10 mA/cm2 at 2.5 V/μm.  相似文献

Plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) method was employed to grow the Fe-catalyzed carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The grown CNTs with a uniform diameter in the range of about 10-20 nm and the typical lengths beyond 1 μm resulted in a very high aspect ratio. The Raman and TEM results showed that the grown CNTs contained a large amount of carbonaceous particles and crystal defects, such as pentagon-heptagon pair defects. XPS measurement indicated that the CNTs had CH covalent bonds. Field emission characteristics exhibited the low turn-on threshold field of 2.75 V/μm and the maximum emission current density of 7.75 mA/cm2 at 6.5 V/μm. The growth mechanism of CNTs and the effects of hydrogen plasma on their structure were discussed.  相似文献

The field emission characteristics of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) grown by thermal chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and subsequently surface treated by high-density Ar plasma in an inductively coupled plasma reactive ion etching (ICP-RIE) with the various plasma powers were measured. Results indicate that, after treated by Ar plasma with power between 250 and 500 W, the emission current density of the CNTs is enhanced by nearly two orders of magnitude (increased from 0.65 to 48 mA/cm2) as compared to that of the as-grown ones. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were employed to investigate the structural features relevant to the modified field emission properties of CNTs. The SEM images of CNTs subjected to a 500 W Ar plasma treatment exhibit obvious damages to the CNTs. Nevertheless, the turn-on fields decreased from 3.6 to 2.2 V/μm, indicating a remarkable field emission enhancement. Our results further suggest that the primary effect of Ar plasma treatment might be to modify the geometrical structures of the local emission region in CNTs. In any case, the Ar plasma treatment appears to be an efficient method to enhance the site density for electron emission and, hence markedly improving the electric characteristics of the CNTs.  相似文献

This paper investigates the surface treatment of screen-printed carbon nanotube (CNT) emitters using a 248 nm (KrF) excimer laser. The field emission characteristics of the CNT emitters are measured following irradiation using laser fluences ranging from 80 to 400 mJ/cm2. The results show that the turn-on electric field, the current density, and the distribution of the emission sites are highly dependent on the value of the laser fluence and are optimized at a fluence of 150 mJ/cm2. Two distinct laser fluence regimes are identified. In the low fluence regime, i.e. 80-150 mJ/cm2, the surface treatment process is dominated by a photo ablation mechanism, which results in the gradual removal of the binding material from the cathode surface and leads to an improvement in the emission characteristics of the CNT cathodes with an increasing fluence. However, in the high fluence regime, i.e. 150-400 mJ/cm2, the thermal ablation mechanism dominates; resulting in a removal of the CNTs from the cathode surface and a subsequent degradation in the emission characteristics.  相似文献

In order to improve the field emission properties of the graphite flakes, the carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are produced on above without the metallic catalyst using mixtures of C2H2 and H2 gases by thermal chemical vapor deposition. We spin the graphite solution on the silicon wafer and dry it, then synthesize the CNTs on the graphite flakes. We change the synthetic time to obtain the optimal conditions for enhancement of field emission properties of graphite flakes. The experimental results show that the density and quality of the CNTs could be controlled significantly by the synthetic time. Besides, the field emission properties of the treated graphite flakes are also affected greatly by it. The emission current density of the treated graphite flakes reaches to 0.5 mA/cm2 at 3 V/μm, and the turn-on field is decreased from 7.7 to 1.9 V/μm after producing the CNTs on above.  相似文献

Field emission properties of carbon nanotubes directly grown on a well-polished oxygen-free copper substrate by chemical-vapor deposition (CVD) were studied. Ni was sputtered on the copper substrate as catalyst, and the reactant gas was acetylene. From scanning electron microscopic and transmission electron microscopic images, the as-grown carbon nanotubes are seen to be bamboo structure with branches. Efficient field emission of CNTs is measured by a diode configuration, and the maximum current is 4.8 mA corresponding to a low electric field of 6.7 V/μm (the emission area is about 3.14 mm2). The diffusion between nickel and copper substrate is found to cause the loss of catalyst based on X-ray diffraction pattern of the surface of the substrate.  相似文献

Using our approach previously reported, we have fabricated relatively large area micro-gated-field emission arrays with carbon nanotube (CNT) grown on Mo tips. By redesigning the device and fabrication processes, the percentage of single CNTs increased to about 50-70% with a substantial improvement in leakage current between gate and cathode and gate interceptive current. The I-V measurement of a 11000 cell array at a gate to cathode voltage of 92 V showed an anode current of 1.2 mA, corresponding to a current density of 0.57 A/cm2, with a gate current only 3.3% of the anode current.  相似文献

The globe-like diamond microcrystalline-aggregates were fabricated by microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition (MPCVD) method. The ceramic with a Ti mental layer was used as substrate. The fabricated diamond was evaluated by Raman scattering spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction spectrum (XRD), and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The field emission properties were tested by using a diode structure in a vacuum. A phosphor-coated indium tin oxide (ITO) anode was used for observing and characterizing the field emission. It was found that the globe-like diamond microcrystalline-aggregates exhibited good electron emission properties. The turn-on field was only 0.55 V/μm, and emission current density as high as 11 mA/cm2 was obtained under an applied field of 2.9 V/μm for the first operation. The growth mechanism and field emission properties of the globe-like diamond microcrystalline-aggregates are discussed relating to microstructure and electrical conductivity.  相似文献

We report on the fabrication of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on Ni-coated stainless steel (SUS) substrates by using dc plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition. The synthesized CNTs have the diameter of about 30 nm and the length of about 1.2 μm. To verify the effects of SUS substrates on the growth of CNTs, CNTs had also been grown on Ni-coated Si substrates. CNTs grown on the SUS substrates were more uniform compared with those grown on the Si substrates. Field emission properties of the CNT films were measured in the diode configuration, and the turn-on electric field of 3.87 V/μm and field enhancement factor β of about 1737 were obtained from the synthesized CNTs at the gap of 500 μm between the SUS substrate and the anode. These results have not only clarified the effects of the substrate on the growth of CNTs, but also shown the potential of CNTs in field emission applications, especially CNT-based cold-cathode X-ray tubes.  相似文献

A composite material of Zinc oxide and carbon nano-tubes (ZnO-CNTs) paste was synthesized by mixing multi-wall CNTs, ZnO nano-grains and organic vehicles. The microstructures and the morphologies of screen-printed films were characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscope. Results show that ZnO flakes geometrically matched with CNTs by filling into the interspaces of CNTs or directly covering upon CNTs. The field emission characteristics of films are found to be greatly effected by ZnO nano-grains. Especially, the turn-on electric field of ZnO-CNT film (1.17 V/μm) which is far lower than that of usual CNT films (1.70 V/μm). Furthermore, except that better emission stability is achieved, brightness and emission uniformity are notably enhanced as well. It can be speculated that the special microstructures of ZnO mixed CNT films dominate the enhanced electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and effective emitters.  相似文献

The effects of total CH4/Ar gas pressure on the growth of carbon nanomaterials on Si (1 0 0) substrate covered with CoO nanoparticles, using plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), were investigated. The structures of obtained products were correlated with the total gas pressure and changed from pure carbon nanotubes (CNTs) through hybrid CNTs/graphene sheets (GSs), to pure GSs as the total gas pressure changed from 20 to 4 Torr. The total gas pressure influenced the density of hydrogen radicals and Ar ions in chamber, which in turn determined the degree of how CoO nanoparticles were deoxidized and ion bombardment energy that governed the final carbon nanomaterials. Moreover, the obtained hybrid CNTs/GSs exhibited a lower turn-on field (1.4 V/μm) emission, compared to either 2.7 V/μm for pure CNTs or 2.2 V/μm for pure GSs, at current density of 10 μA/cm2.  相似文献

Ag(TCNQ) and Cu(TCNQ) nanowires were synthesized via vapor-transport reaction method at a low temperature of 100 °C. Field emission properties of the as-obtained nanowires on ITO glass substrates were studied. The turn-on electric fields of Ag(TCNQ) and Cu(TCNQ) nanowires were 9.7 and 7.6 V/μm (with emission current of 10 μA/cm2), respectively. The turn-on electric fields of Ag(TCNQ) and Cu(TCNQ) nanowires decreased to 6 and 2.2 V/μm, and the emission current densities increased by two orders at a field of 8 V/μm with a homogeneous-like metal (e.g. Cu for Cu(TCNQ)) buffer layer to the substrate. The improved field emission is due to the better conduct in the nanowires/substrate interface and higher internal conductance of the nanowires. The patterned field emission cathode was then fabricated by localized growing M-TCNQ nanowires onto mask-deposited metal film buffer layer. The emission luminance was measured to be 810 cd/m2 at a field of 8.5 V/μm.  相似文献

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were modified by depositing a thin layer of titanium film on the surface using magnetron sputtering method, followed by vacuum annealing at 900 °C for 2 h. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed that the as-deposited thin titanium film reacted with carbon atoms to form titanium carbide after annealing. The experiment results show that the thickness of sputter-deposited titanium film has significant effect on the field emission J-E characteristic of modified CNTs film. The titanium carbide-modified CNTs film obtained by controlling the titanium sputtering time to 2 min showed an improved field emission characteristics with a significant reduction in the turn-on electric field and an obvious increase in the emission current density as well as an improvement in emission stability. The improvement of field emission characteristics achieved is attributed to the low work function and good resistance to ion bombardment of titanium carbide.  相似文献

Carbon nanotubes with uniform density were synthesized on carbon fiber substrate by the floating catalyst method. The morphology and microstructure were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The results of field emission showed that the emission current density of carbon nanotubes/carbon fibers was 10 μA/cm2 and 1 mA/cm2 at the field of 1.25 and 2.25 V/μm, respectively, and the emission current density could be 10 and 81.2 mA/cm2 with the field of 4.5 and 7 V/μm, respectively. Using uniform and sparse density distribution of carbon nanotubes on carbon fiber substrate, the tip predominance of carbon nanotubes can be exerted, and simultaneously the effect of screening between adjacent carbon nanotubes on field emission performance can also be effectively decreased. Therefore, the carbon nanotubes/carbon fibers composite should be a good candidate for a cold cathode material.  相似文献

In order to study the effect of titanium ion implantation on the aqueous corrosion behavior of zirconium, specimens were implanted with titanium ions with fluence ranging from 1 × 1016 to 1 × 1017 ions/cm2, using a metal vapor vacuum arc (MEVVA) source at an extraction voltage of 40 kV. The valence states and depth distributions of elements in the surface layer of the samples were analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), respectively. The potentiodynamic polarization technique was employed to evaluate the aqueous corrosion resistance of implanted zirconium in a 1 M H2SO4 solution. It was found that a significant improvement was achieved in the aqueous corrosion resistance of zirconium implanted with titanium ions. The larger the fluence, the better is the corrosion resistance of implanted sample. Finally, the mechanism of the corrosion behavior of titanium-implanted zirconium was discussed.  相似文献
