Herein, we reported the designed synthesis of three isostructural three‐dimensional covalent organic frameworks (3D COFs) with ‐H, ‐Me, or ‐F substituents, which have similar crystallinity and topology. Their crystal structures were determined by continuous rotation electron diffraction (cRED), and all three 3D COFs were found to adopt a fivefold interpenetrated pts topology. More importantly, the resolution of these cRED datasets reached up to 0.9–1.0 Å, enabling the localization of all non‐hydrogen atomic positions in a COF framework directly by 3D ED techniques for the first time. In addition, the precise control of the pore environments through the use of different functional groups led to different selectivities for CO2 over N2. We have thus confirmed that polycrystalline COFs can be definitely studied to the atomic level as other materials, and this study should also inspire the design and synthesis of 3D COFs with tailored pore environments for interesting applications.  相似文献

Cryo‐electron diffraction tomography (Cryo‐EDT) has been developed to determine the crystal structures of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and their host‐guest interaction at the atomic precision, whose crystals are only submicron‐sized, organic, porous, and dynamic. The keys of 3D electron diffraction (3D‐ED) techniques are low‐dose beam, sample cryo‐handling, fast data collection, sensitive detector, and direct space structure solution. We envision the development of COF chemistry will be propelled by such powerful 3D‐ED techniques for a better understanding at the molecular level and correlation of structures to chemicophysical properties. More details are discussed in the article by Zhang et al. on page 1153—1166.

The construction of 2D and 3D covalent organic frameworks (COFs) from functional moieties for desired properties has gained much attention. However, the influence of COFs dimensionality on their functionalities, which can further assist in COF design, has never been explored. Now, by selecting designed precursors and topology diagrams, 2D and 3D porphyrinic COFs (2D‐PdPor‐COF and 3D‐PdPor‐COF) are synthesized. By model building and Rietveld refinement of powder X‐ray diffraction, 2D‐PdPor‐COF crystallizes as 2D sheets while 3D‐PdPor‐COF adopts a five‐fold interpenetrated pts topology. Interestingly, compared with 2D‐PdPor‐COF, 3D‐PdPor‐COF showed interesting properties, including 1) higher CO2 adsorption capacity; 2) better photocatalytic performance; and 3) size‐selective photocatalysis. Based on this study, we believe that with the incorporation of functional moieties, the dimensionality of COFs can definitely influence their functionalities.  相似文献

Featuring the art of covalent chemistry on 2D and 3D with molecular precision, covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have attracted immense interests from inorganic, organic, polymer, materials and energy chemistry. However, due to the synthetic challenge of “crystallization problem”, structural determination of COFs has been the bottle‐neck in speeding up their discovery and design, as well as building up their structure‐ property relation. Electron diffraction tomography (EDT) has been developed to determine crystal structures of COFs with only sub‐micrometer sized single crystals, which enabled the ab initio determination of crystal structure, molecular connectivity, pore metrics, and host‐guest interaction at the atomic level. In this review, we summarized the recent developments of EDT for addressing challenges in structure determinations of such e‐beam sensitive, organic porous crystals, covering comprehensively automatic data collection, low dose, cryogenic protocols, structural solution method, powder X‐ray diffraction refinement, and high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) imaging techniques. We do believe the EDT will propel this field into the new era of COF chemistry with atomic precision, and we envision the wide application of artificial intelligence will promote the structural determination and particle analysis of COFs and related materials.  相似文献

Two 2D wavy hexagonal hexahydroxyl cyclotricatechylene (CTC) based COFs, CTC‐COF‐2 and CTC‐COF‐3 were synthesized through solvothermal reaction. The bowl‐shaped conformation caused CTC skeletons packed in a columnar manner with the same oriented units, thus forming an undulated structure. The gas adsorption properties of CTC‐COFs were investigated, which show the potential application abilities in hydrogen storage of CTC‐COFs. The introduction of pyrene into CTC‐COF‐3 makes it a potential semiconducting π‐conjugated material.  相似文献

Reticular chemistry of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) deals with the linking of discrete organic molecular building units into extended structures adopting various topologies by strong covalent bonds. The past decade has witnessed a rapid development of COF chemistry in terms of both structural diversity and applications. From the structural perspective, irrespective of our subject of concern with regard to COFs, it is inevitable to take into account the structural aspects of COFs in all dimensions from 1D ribbons to 3D frameworks, for which understanding the concepts of reticular chemistry, based mainly on ‘reticular design’, will seemingly lead to unlimited ways of exploring the exquisiteness of this advanced class of porous, extended, and crystalline materials. A comprehensive discussion and understanding of reticular design, therefore, is of paramount importance so that everyone willing to research on COFs can interpret well and chemically correlate the geometrical structures of this subset of reticular materials and their practical applications. This article lies at the heart of using the conceptual basis of reticular chemistry for designing, modeling, and determination of novel infinite and crystalline structures. Especially, the structure determinations are described by means of chronological advances of discoveries and development of COFs whereby their crystal structures are elucidated by modeling through the topological approach, 3D electron diffraction, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and powder X-ray diffraction techniques.

This article describes the conceptual basis of rational design in COF chemistry and comprehensively discusses the crystal structure determination of COFs using the topological approach, X-ray diffraction, and 3D electron diffraction.  相似文献

Covalent organic framework(COF) is a porous crystalline material with a well-controlled structure and a wide range of potential applications. However, the construction of new COF faces huge challenges, including the design and synthesis of structural unit monomers, the choice of reaction solvent system, and the study of reaction time and temperature. So, it’s particularly important to widen the application scope of synthetic methods and further promote the development of COFs. Here, we performed structural transformations in a three-dimensional(3D) COF(COF-300), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), power X-ray diffraction analysis(PXRD) and nitrogen adsorption isotherms confirmed the chemical principles and the successful realization of these exchanges. At the same time, we found that the interpenetrating structure in 3D COF can be changed through the conversion of linkers. The structure simulation successfully proved the transformation of COF from five-fold to seven-fold interpenetration. In addition, in order to prove the versatility of this strategy, we used the same method to convert COF-300 into a high crystallinity 3D COF(TJNU-COF-302) that is also seven-fold interpenetrating and has not been reported. This simple strategy not only makes it easy to obtain a 3D COF connected with imines, which greatly promotes the development of COF, but also provides a new way to develop 3D COFs with complex interpenetrating structures.  相似文献

The experimental charge density distributions in a host-guest complex have been determined. The host, 1,4-bis[[(6-methylpyrid-2-yl)amino]carbonyl]benzene (1) and guest, adipic acid (2). The molecular geometries of 1 and 2 are controlled by the presence in the complex of intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions and the presence in the host 1 of intramolecular hydrogen bonding motifs. This system therefore serves as an excellent model for studying noncovalent interactions and their effects on structure and electron density, and the transferability of electron distribution properties between closely related molecules. For the complex, high resolution X-ray diffraction data created the basis for a charge density refinement using a pseudoatomic multipolar expansion (Hansen-Coppens formalism) against extensive low-temperature (T = 100 K) single-crystal X-ray diffraction data and compared with a selection of theoretical DFT calculations on the same complex. The molecules crystallize in the noncentrosymmetric space group P2(1)2(1)2(1) with two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. A topological analysis of the resulting density distribution using the atoms in molecules methodology is presented along with multipole populations, showing that the host and guest structures are relatively unaltered by the geometry changes on complexation. Three separate refinement protocols were adopted to determine the effects of the inclusion of calculated hydrogen atom anisotropic displacement parameters on hydrogen bond strengths. For the isotropic model, the total hydrogen bond energy differs from the DFT calculated value by ca. 70 kJ mol(-1), whereas the inclusion of higher multipole expansion levels on anisotropic hydrogen atoms this difference is reduced to ca. 20 kJ mol(-l), highlighting the usefulness of this protocol when describing H-bond energetics.  相似文献

Selecting a suitable support material for enzyme immobilization with excellent biocatalytic activity and stability is a critical aspect in the development of functional biosystems. The highly stable and metal-free properties of covalent-organic frameworks (COFs) make them ideal supports for enzyme immobilization. Herein, we constructed three kinds of COFs via a biofriendly and one-pot synthetic strategy at room temperature in aqueous solution. Among the three developed COFs (COF-LZU1, RT-COF-1 and ACOF-1), the horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-incorporated COF-LZU1 is found to retain the highest activity. Structural analysis reveals that a weakest interaction between the hydrated enzyme and COF-LZU1, an easiest accessibility by the COF-LZU1 to the substrate, as well as an optimal conformation of enzyme together promote the bioactivity of HRP-COF-LZU1. Furthermore, the COF-LZU1 is revealed to be a versatile nanoplatform for encapsulating multiple enzymes. The COF-LZU1 also offers superior protection for the immobilized enzymes under harsh conditions and during recycling. The comprehensive understanding of interfacial interactions of COF host and enzyme guest, the substrate diffusion, as well as the enzyme conformation alteration within COF matrices represents an opportunity to design the ideal biocatalysts and opens a broad range of applications of these nanosystems.  相似文献

Porous crystalline materials such as zeolites, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have attracted great interest due to their well-defined pore structures in molecular dimensions. Knowing the atomic structures of porous materials is crucial for understanding their properties and exploring their applications. Many porous materials are synthesized as polycrystalline powders, which are too small for structure determination by X-ray diffraction. Three-dimensional electron diffraction (3DED) has been developed for studying such materials. In this Minireview, we summarize the recent developments of 3DED methods and demonstrate how 3DED revolutionized structural analysis of zeolites, MOFs, and COFs. Zeolites and MOFs whose structures remained unknown for decades could be solved. New approaches for design and targeted synthesis of novel zeolites could be developed. Moreover, we discuss the advances of structural analysis by 3DED in revealing the unique structural features and properties, such as heteroatom distributions, mixed-metal frameworks, structural flexibility, guest–host interactions, and structure transformation.

Three-dimensional electron diffraction is a powerful tool for accurate structure determination of zeolite, MOF, and COF crystals that are too small for X-ray diffraction. By revealing the structural details, the properties of the materials can be understood, and new materials and applications can be designed.  相似文献

Layered covalent organic frameworks (2D‐COFs), composed of reversible imine linkages and accessible pores, offer versatility for chemical modifications towards the development of catalytic materials. Nitrogen‐enriched COFs are good candidates for binding Pd species. Understanding the local structure of reacting Pd sites bonded to the COF pores is key to rationalize interactions between active sites and porous surfaces. By combining advanced synchrotron characterization methods with periodic computational DFT modeling, the precise atomic structure of catalytic Pd sites attached to local defects is resolved within an archetypical imine‐linked 2D‐COF. This material was synthesized using an in situ method as a gel, under which imine hydrolysis and metalation reactions are coupled. Local defects formed in situ within imine‐linked 2D‐COF materials are highly reactive towards Pd metalation, resulting in active materials for Suzuki–Miyaura cross‐coupling reactions.  相似文献

The design and synthesis of 3D covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have been considered a challenge, and the demonstrated applications of 3D COFs have so far been limited to gas adsorption. Herein we describe the design and synthesis of two new 3D microporous base‐functionalized COFs, termed BF‐COF‐1 and BF‐COF‐2, by the use of a tetrahedral alkyl amine, 1,3,5,7‐tetraaminoadamantane (TAA), combined with 1,3,5‐triformylbenzene (TFB) or triformylphloroglucinol (TFP). As catalysts, both BF‐COFs showed remarkable conversion (96 % for BF‐COF‐1 and 98 % for BF‐COF‐2), high size selectivity, and good recyclability in base‐catalyzed Knoevenagel condensation reactions. This study suggests that porous functionalized 3D COFs could be a promising new class of shape‐selective catalysts.  相似文献

The design and fabrication of versatile covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with multiple properties for diverse applications is highly desirable. Here, the difunctional COFs material g–C18N3–COF was prepared and modified to be applied for efficient photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) and pH detection, respectively. Owing to the triazine unit which was suitable for photocatalyst construction, g–C18N3–COF was sensitive to visible light and exhibited excellent photocatalysis capability toward RhB. Specially, the photocatalytic degradation of RhB with a high concentration of 300 ppm using g–C18N3–COF reached equilibrium within 6 h. Moreover, g–C18N3–COF was further grown in-situ onto the filter paper to generate a novel composite material g–C18N3–COF@Paper with bright yellow fluorescence. g–C18N3–COF@Paper could visualize the pH detection by remarkable changes in its fluorescent intensity and color in the range of pH value from 1 to 5, on account of the protonation of the nitrogen atoms from the triazine ring in g–C18N3–COF. The triazine-based sp2 carbon-conjugated g–C18N3–COF, respectively, used as photocatalyst and sensor in this work offers a new strategy to construct the versatile COFs material, facilitating the application of functional COFs in the environmental protection field.  相似文献

Mechanistic understanding into the formation and growth of imine-linked two-dimensional (2D) covalent organic frameworks (COFs) is needed to improve their materials quality and access larger crystallite sizes, both of which limit the promise of 2D COFs and 2D polymerization techniques. Here we report a previously unknown temperature-dependent depolymerization of colloidal 2D imine-linked COFs, which offers a new means to improve their crystallinity. 2D COF colloids form at room temperature but then depolymerize when their reaction mixtures are heated to 90 °C. As the solutions are cooled back to room temperature, the 2D COFs repolymerize and crystallize with improved crystallinity and porosity, as characterized by X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy and N2 porosimetry. The evolution of COF crystallinity during the solvothermal depolymerization and repolymerization processes was characterized by in situ wide angle X-ray scattering, and the concentrations of free COF monomers as a function of temperature were quantified by variable temperature 1H NMR spectroscopy. The ability of a 2D COF to depolymerize under these conditions depends on both the identity of the COF and its initial materials quality. For one network formed at room temperature (TAPB-PDA COF), a first depolymerization process is nearly complete, and the repolymerization yields materials with dramatically enhanced crystallinity and surface area. Already recrystallized materials partially depolymerize upon heating their reaction mixtures a second time. A related 2D COF (TAPB-DMTA COF) forms initially with improved crystallinity compared to TAPB-PDA COF and then partially depolymerizes upon heating. These results suggest that both high materials quality and network-dependent properties, such as interlayer interaction strength, influence the extent to which 2D COFs resist depolymerization. These findings offer a new means to recrystallize or solvent anneal 2D COFs and may ultimately inform crystallization conditions for obtaining large-area imine-linked two-dimensional polymers from solution.

Conditions for which imine-linked 2D COF polymerizations are temperature-sensitive are identified that enable a dissolution/repolymerization process akin to molecular recrystallization.  相似文献

Developing new materials for anhydrous proton conduction under high-temperature conditions is significant and challenging. Herein, we create a series of highly crystalline covalent organic frameworks (COFs) via a pore engineering approach. We simultaneously engineer the pore geometry (generating concave dodecagonal nanopores) and pore surface (installing multiple functional groups such as −C=N−, −OH, −N=N− and −CF3) to improve the utilization efficiency and host–guest interaction of proton carriers, hence benefiting the enhancement of anhydrous proton conduction. Upon loading with H3PO4, COFs can realize a proton conductivity of 2.33×10−2 S cm−1 under anhydrous conditions, among the highest values of all COF materials. These materials demonstrate good stability and maintain high proton conductivity over a wide temperature range (80–160 °C). This work paves a new way for designing COFs for anhydrous proton conduction applications, which shows great potential as high-temperature proton exchange membranes.  相似文献

Two‐dimensional (2D) covalent organic frameworks (COFs) feature open and ordered one‐dimensional column nanochannels which offer immense possibilities for incorporation of various guests for specific functions. However, the relatively low chemical stability of most COFs originating from the dynamic covalent linkages hinders their practical application. In this work, a highly crystalline and heteroporous dibenzo[g,p]chrysene‐based COF (DBC‐2P) was synthesized and served as a host material for ionic conduction. DBC‐2P exhibits excellent stability both in strong acid and base due to the large conjugated DBC‐based knot that reinforces the interlayer interactions. Subsequent encapsulation of linear polyethylene glycol (PEG) and PEG‐LiBF4 salt into the nanochannels of DBC‐2P affords a hybrid material with a high ionic conductivity of 2.31×10?3 S cm?1. This work demonstrates an efficient post‐synthetic strategy for the development of new COF–polymer composites with intriguing properties.  相似文献

Crystalline triazine-based covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are aromatic nitrogen-rich porous materials. COFs typically show high thermal/chemical stability, and are promising for energy applications, but often require harsh synthesis conditions and suffer from low crystallinity. In this work, we propose an environmentally friendly route for the synthesis of crystalline COFs from CO2 molecules as a precursor. The mass ratio of CO2 conversion into COFs formula unit reaches 46.3 %. The synthesis consists of two steps; preparation of 1,4-piperazinedicarboxaldehyde from CO2 and piperazine, and condensation of the dicarboxaldehyde and melamine to construct the framework. The CO2-derived COF has a 3-fold interpenetrated structure of 2D layers determined by powder X-ray diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, and select-area electron diffraction. The structure shows a high Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area of 945 m2 g−1 and high stability against strong acid (6 M HCl), base (6 M NaOH), and boiling water over 24 hours. Post-modification of the framework with oxone has been demonstrated to modulate hydrophilicity, and it exhibits proton conductivity of 2.5×10−2 S cm−1 at 85 °C, 95 % of relative humidity.  相似文献

Structure determination of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with atomic precision is a bottleneck that hinders the development of COF chemistry. Although three-dimensional electron diffraction (3D-ED) data has been used to solve structures of sub-micrometer-sized COFs, successful structure solution is not guaranteed as the data resolution is usually low. We demonstrate that the direct-space strategy for structure solution, implemented using a genetic algorithm (GA), is a successful approach for structure determination of COF-300 from 3D-ED data. Structural models with different geometric constraints were considered in the GA calculations, with successful structure solution achieved from room-temperature 3D-ED data with a resolution as low as ca. 3.78 Å. The generality of this strategy was further verified for different phases of COF-300. This study demonstrates a viable strategy for structure solution of COF materials from 3D-ED data of limited resolution, which may facilitate the discovery of new COF materials in the future.  相似文献

Considering the superior physiochemical property, increasing efforts have been devoted to exploiting the covalent organic frameworks (COFs) materials on the environmental remediation of heavy metal ions. Water pollution caused by Cr3+ metal ions is of special concern for scientists and engineers. Notwithstanding all the former efforts made, it is surprising that very little is known about the interaction mechanisms between the hydrated Cr3+ metal ions and COF materials. In present context, density functional theory (DFT) method is used to elucidate geometric and electronic properties with the purpose of putting into theoretical perspective the application values and interaction mechanisms for COF materials on Cr3+ capture. The results showed that all the five selected Schiff‐base COFs materials displayed good adsorption performance on Cr3+ removal while the phenazine‐linked and imine‐COFs possessed the most favorable adsorption capacity due to the optimal chemical units and frameworks. The hydration effect was found to play a two‐side role in the adsorption process and interaction mechanisms, involving coordination, hydrogen bonds, as well as weak non‐covalent interactions, have been illuminated to explain the observed different adsorption behaviors. This study provides a general guidance for the design and selection of efficient COF materials as high‐capacity Cr3+ adsorbents.  相似文献

Chemical functionalization of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) is critical for tuning their properties and broadening their potential applications. However, the introduction of functional groups, especially to three‐dimensional (3D) COFs, still remains largely unexplored. Reported here is a general strategy for generating a 3D carboxy‐functionalized COF through postsynthetic modification of a hydroxy‐functionalized COF, and for the first time exploration of the 3D carboxy‐functionalized COF in the selective extraction of lanthanide ions. The obtained COF shows high crystallinity, good chemical stability, and large specific surface area. Furthermore, the carboxy‐functionalized COF displays high metal loading capacities together with excellent adsorption selectivity for Nd3+ over Sr2+ and Fe3+ as confirmed by the Langmuir adsorption isotherms and ideal adsorbed solution theory (IAST) calculations. This study not only provides a strategy for versatile functionalization of 3D COFs, but also opens a way to their use in environmentally related applications.  相似文献
