Co3O4/SiO2 catalysts for CO oxidation were prepared by conventional incipient wetness impregnation followed by calcination at various temperatures. Their structures were char-acterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), laser Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) and X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectroscopy. Both XRD and Raman spectroscopy only detect the ex-istence of Co3O4 crystallites in all catalysts. However, XPS results indicate that excess Co2+ ions are present on the surface of Co3O4 in Co3O4(200)/SiO2 as compared with bulk Co3O4. Meanwhile, TPR results suggest the presence of surface oxygen vacancies on Co3O4 in Co3O4(200)/SiO2, and XAFS results demonstrate that Co3O4 in Co3O4(200)/SiO2 con-tains excess Co2+. Increasing calcination temperature results in oxidation of excess Co2+ and the decrease of the concentration of surface oxygen vacancies, consequently the for-mation of stoichiometric Co3O4 on supported catalysts. Among all Co3O4/SiO2 catalysts,Co3O4(200)/SiO2 exhibits the best catalytic performance towards CO oxidation, demon-strating that excess Co2+ and surface oxygen vacancies can enhance the catalytic activity of Co3O4 towards CO oxidation. These results nicely demonstrate the effect of calcination temperature on the structure and catalytic performance towards CO oxidation of silica-supported Co3O4 catalysts and highlight the important role of surface oxygen vacancies on Co3O4.  相似文献

The reaction mechanism of CO oxidation on the Co3O4 (110) and Co3O4 (111) surfaces is investigated by means of spin‐polarized density functional theory (DFT) within the GGA+U framework. Adsorption situation and complete reaction cycles for CO oxidation are clarified. The results indicate that 1) the U value can affect the calculated energetic result significantly, not only the absolute adsorption energy but also the trend in adsorption energy; 2) CO can directly react with surface lattice oxygen atoms (O2f/O3f) to form CO2 via the Mars–van Krevelen reaction mechanism on both (110)‐B and (111)‐B; 3) pre‐adsorbed molecular O2 can enhance CO oxidation through the channel in which it directly reacts with molecular CO to form CO2 [O2(a)+CO(g)→CO2(g)+O(a)] on (110)‐A/(111)‐A; 4) CO oxidation is a structure‐sensitive reaction, and the activation energy of CO oxidation follows the order of Co3O4 (111)‐A(0.78 eV)>Co3O4 (111)‐B (0.68 eV)>Co3O4 (110)‐A (0.51 eV)>Co3O4 (110)‐B (0.41 eV), that is, the (110) surface shows higher reactivity for CO oxidation than the (111) surface; 5) in addition to the O2f, it was also found that Co3+ is more active than Co2+, so both O2f and Co3+ control the catalytic activity of CO oxidation on Co3O4, as opposed to a previous DFT study which concluded that either Co3+ or O2f is the active site.  相似文献

The catalytic performance of tetra‐n‐butylammonium salts of Keggin and Wells–Dawson sandwich‐type polyoxotungstates, [M4(PW9O34)2]m? and [M4(P2W15O56)2]n? (M = Mn2+, Fe3+, Co2+, Ni2+, Zn2+), in the oxidation of cyclooctene and cyclohexene with 30% hydrogen peroxide under various conditions was investigated. In comparison, Wells–Dawson sandwich‐type polyoxometalates were found to be less active than Keggin ones. In both of them, those containing Zn and Fe gave higher conversions for different oxidation conditions. These catalysts showed very good reusability in the oxidation reaction. In this paper, in situ growth of Co3O4 nano-dodecahedra on In2O3 hexagonal prisms were synthesized via pyrolysis of ZIF-67/MIL-68. Interestingly, the amount of Co3O4 dodecahedra on In2O3 hexagonal prisms was regularly regulated and controlled. In detail, four Co3O4/In2O3 catalysts with various Co/In molar ratio were prepared, including Co4In1 (Co/In molar ratio was 4:1), Co2In1 (Co/In molar ratio was 2:1), Co1In1 (Co/In molar ratio was 1:1), Co0.5In1 (Co/In molar ratio was 0.5:1). The catalytic performance of Co3O4/In2O3 catalysts was systematically investigated for toluene combustion. It could be noted that the Co2In1 sample exhibited the superior catalytic performance, and the temperatures for 90% toluene conversion (T90) was 182 °C. Furthermore, the toluene conversion of Co2In1 sample had no significant decrease at 178 °C for 15 h, indicating that it presented superior stability for toluene oxidation reaction. Through various characterizations, it was verified that the Co/In molar ratio of Co3O4/In2O3 catalyst could obviously alter the surface atomic ratio of Co3+/(Co3+ + Co2+), BET surface area, the number of surface adsorbed oxygen, the interaction between In2O3 and Co3O4 of CoInOx catalysts and so on. The lots of surface adsorbed oxygen, strong interaction between In2O3 and Co3O4 would promote the catalytic oxidation of toluene. Especially, we discovered that the catalytic activity of Co3O4/In2O3 was obviously improved with the increase of Co3+/(Co3+ + Co2+) surface atomic ratio.  相似文献

A full account of our recently communicated room temperature alcohol oxidation using reduced polyoxovanadates (r‐POV s) is presented. Extensive optimizations revealed optimal conditions employing 0.02 equiv. of r‐POV catalyst Cs5(V14As8O42Cl), 5 equiv. tert‐butyl hydrogen peroxide (t BuOOH ) as the terminal co‐oxidant, in an acetone solvent for the quantitative oxidation of aryl‐substituted secondary alcohols to their ketone products. The substrate scope tolerates most aryl substituted secondary alcohols in good to quantitative yields while alkyl secondary and primary activated alcohols were sluggish in comparison under similar conditions. Catalyst recyclability was successful on a 1.0 mmol scale of starting alcohol 1‐phenylethanol. The oxidation was also successfully promoted by the VIV /VV mixed valent polyoxovanadate (POV ) Cs11Na3Cl5(V15O36Cl). Finally, a third POV , Cs2.64(V5O9)(AsO4)2, was investigated for catalytic activity using our established reaction protocol, but proved ineffective as compared to the other two r‐POV catalysts. This study expands the field of POM ‐mediated alcohol oxidations to include underexplored r‐POV catalysts. While our catalysts do not supplant the best catalysts known for the transformation, their study may inform the development of other novel oxidative transformations mediated by r‐POV s.  相似文献

In acetate buffer media (pH 4.5–5.4) thiosulfate ion (S2O32?) reduces the bridged superoxo complex, [(NH3)4CoIII(μ‐NH2,μ‐O2)CoIII(NH3)4]4+ ( 1 ) to its corresponding μ‐peroxo product, [(NH3)4CoIII(μ‐NH2,μ‐O2)CoIII(NH3)4]3+ ( 2 ) and along a parallel reaction path, simultaneously S2O32? reacts with 1 to produce the substituted μ‐thiosulfato‐μ‐superoxo complex, [(NH3)4CoIII(μ‐S2O3,μ‐O2)CoIII(NH3)4]3+ ( 3 ). The formation of μ‐thiosulfato‐μ‐superoxo complex ( 3 ) appears as a precipitate which on being subjected to FTIR shows absorption peaks that support the presence of Co(III)‐bound S‐coordinated S2O32? group. In reaction media, 3 readily dissolves to further react with S2O32? to produce μ‐thiosulfato‐μ‐peroxo product, [(NH3)4CoIII(μ‐S2O3,μ‐O2)CoIII(NH3)4]2+ ( 4 ). The observed rate (k0) increases with an increase in [TThio] ([TThio] is the analytical concentration of S2O32?) and temperature (T), but it decreases with an increase in [H+] and the ionic strength (I). Analysis of the log At versus time data (A is the absorbance of 1 at time t) reveals that overall the reaction follows a biphasic consecutive reaction path with rate constants k1 and k2 and the change of absorbance is equal to {a1 exp(–k1t) + a2 exp(–k2t)}, where k1 > k2.  相似文献

The isomorphous partial substitution of Zn2+ ions in the secondary building unit (SBU) of MFU‐4l leads to frameworks with the general formula [MxZn(5–x)Cl4(BTDD)3], in which x≈2, M=MnII, FeII, CoII, NiII, or CuII, and BTDD=bis(1,2,3‐triazolato‐[4,5‐b],[4′,5′‐i])dibenzo‐[1,4]‐dioxin. Subsequent exchange of chloride ligands by nitrite, nitrate, triflate, azide, isocyanate, formate, acetate, or fluoride leads to a variety of MFU‐4l derivatives, which have been characterized by using XRPD, EDX, IR, UV/Vis‐NIR, TGA, and gas sorption measurements. Several MFU‐4l derivatives show high catalytic activity in a liquid‐phase oxidation of ethylbenzene to acetophenone with air under mild conditions, among which Co‐ and Cu derivatives with chloride side‐ligands are the most active catalysts. Upon thermal treatment, several side‐ligands can be transformed selectively into reactive intermediates without destroying the framework. Thus, at 300 °C, CoII‐azide units in the SBU of Co‐MFU‐4l are converted into CoII‐isocyanate under continuous CO gas flow, involving the formation of a nitrene intermediate. The reaction of CuII‐fluoride units with H2 at 240 °C leads to CuI and proceeds through the heterolytic cleavage of the H2 molecule.  相似文献

Cluster catalysts are attractive for their atomically precise structures, defined compositions, tunable coordination environments, uniform active sites, and their ability to transfer multiple electrons, but they suffer from poor stability and recyclability. Here, we report a general approach to the direct insolubilization of a water soluble polyoxometalate (POM) [{(B-α-PW9O34)Co3(OH)(H2O)2(O3PC(O)-(C3H6NH3)PO3)}2Co]14− ( Co7 ) and formation of a series of POM-based solid catalysts with the counter-cations Ag+, Cs+, Sr2+, Ba2+, Pb2+, Y3+, and Ce3+. They exhibit improved catalytic activities for visible-light-driven water oxidation following the trend CsCo7 > SrCo7 > AgCo7 > CeIIICo7 > BaCo7 > YCo7 > PbCo7 . While CsCo7 exhibits mainly homogeneous catalysis, the others are predominantly heterogeneous catalysts. An optimal oxygen yield of 41.3 % and a high apparent quantum yield (AQY) of 30.6 % for SrCo7 is obtained, which is comparable to that of the parent homogeneous POM. Band gap structures, UV/Vis spectra, and real-time laser flash photolysis experiments collectively suggest that easier electron transfer from the solid POM catalyst to the photosensitizer promotes photocatalytic water oxidation performance. These solid POM catalysts exhibit good stability, which is directly confirmed by a combination of Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction patterns, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, five cycles of tests, and poisoning experiments.  相似文献

A mononuclear‐cobalt(II)‐substituted silicotungstate, K10[Co(H2O)2(γ‐SiW10O35)2] ? 23 H2O (POM‐ 1 ), has been evaluated as a light‐driven water‐oxidation catalyst. With in situ photogenerated [Ru(bpy)3]3+ (bpy=2,2′‐bipyridine) as the oxidant, quite high catalytic turnover number (TON; 313), turnover frequency (TOF; 3.2 s?1), and quantum yield (ΦQY; 27 %) for oxygen evolution at pH 9.0 were acquired. Comparison experiments with its structural analogues, namely [Ni(H2O)2(γ‐SiW10O35)2]10? (POM‐ 2 ) and [Mn(H2O)2(γ‐SiW10O35)2]10? (POM‐ 3 ), gave the conclusion that the cobalt center in POM‐ 1 is the active site. The hydrolytic stability of the title polyoxometalate (POM) was confirmed by extensive experiments, including UV/Vis spectroscopy, linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), and cathodic adsorption stripping analysis (CASA). As the [Ru(bpy)3]2+/visible light/sodium persulfate system was introduced, a POM–photosensitizer complex formed within minutes before visible‐light irradiation. It was demonstrated that this complex functioned as the active species, which remained intact after the oxygen‐evolution reaction. Multiple experimental parameters were investigated and the catalytic activity was also compared with the well‐studied POM‐based water‐oxidation catalysts (i.e., [Co4(H2O)2(α‐PW9O34)2]10? (Co4‐POM) and [CoIIICoII(H2O)W11O39]7? (Co2‐POM)) under optimum conditions.  相似文献

This work presents two mixed-valent μ3-oxo-bridged trinuclear [(Co2+)2Co3+] complexes 1 and 2 and a μ4-oxo-bridged tetranuclear [Co2+4] complex 3 . Crystal structures of 1 and 2 showed the presence of triangular complexes having two Co2+ and one Co3+ centers bridged by a μ3-oxo group. In contrast, complex 3 exhibited a tetrahedrally arranged μ4-oxo-bridged [Co2+4] core. A significant feature is the stabilization of unusual μ-oxo-bridged complexes exclusively supported with all nitrogen donor ligands. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirmed the multiple oxidation states of cobalt ions in these complexes. Such oxo-bridged cobalt complexes were investigated for their catalytic activity towards H2O2-mediated oxidation of assorted benzyl alcohols.  相似文献

MgCo2O4, CoCr2O4, and Co2TiO4 were selected, where only Co3+ in the center of octahedron (Oh), Co2+ in the center of tetrahedron (Td), and Co2+ in the center of Oh, can be active sites for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Co3+(Oh) sites are the best geometrical configuration for OER. Co2+(Oh) sites exhibit better activity than Co2+(Td). Calculations demonstrate the conversion of O* into OOH* is the rate‐determining step for Co3+(Oh) and Co2+(Td). For Co2+(Oh), it is thermodynamically favorable for the formation of OOH* but difficult for the desorption of O2. Co3+(Oh) needs to increase the lowest Gibbs free energy over Co2+(Oh) and Co2+(Td), which contributes to the best activity. The coexistence of Co3+(Oh) and Co2+(Td) in Co3O4 can promote the formation of OOH* and decrease the free‐energy barrier. This work screens out the optimal geometrical configuration of cobalt cations for OER and gives a valuable principle to design efficient electrocatalysts.  相似文献

The complexes [Ni2(L)2]2 · H2O ( 1 ) and [Cu2(L)2(H2O)] · 2CH3OH ( 2 ) were prepared by reaction of the chiral Schiff base ligand N‐[(1R,2S)‐2‐hydroxy‐1,2‐diphenyl]‐acetylacetonimine (H2L) with NiII and CuII ions, respectively, aiming to develop economically and environmentally‐friendly catalysts for the hydrogenation of ketones. They have a dinuclear skeleton with axial vacant sites. The catalytic effects of the two complexes for hydrogenation of ketones were tested using dihydrogen gas as hydrogen source. They present some catalytic effects in hydrogenation of acetophenone, which has a dependence on the temperature and base used in these reactions. However, no apparent catalytic effects were found for the two complexes in hydrogenation of 4‐nitroacetophenone and 4‐methylacetophenone. Although the catalytic conversion in these hydrogenation reactions is low, they do represent a kind of cheap and environmentally‐friendly hydrogenation catalyst.  相似文献

The new, structurally characterized hydrido carbonyl tetrahydridoborate iron pincer complex [(iPr‐PNP)Fe(H)(CO)(η1‐BH4)] ( 1 ) catalyzes the base‐free hydrogenation of ketones to their corresponding alcohols employing only 4.1 atm hydrogen pressure. Turnover numbers up to 1980 at complete conversion of ketone were reached with this system. Treatment of 1 with aniline (as a BH3 scavenger) resulted in a mixture of trans‐[(iPr‐PNP)Fe(H)2(CO)] ( 4 a ) and cis‐[(iPr‐PNP)Fe(H)2(CO)] ( 4 b ). The dihydrido complexes 4 a and 4 b do not react with acetophenone or benzaldehyde, indicating that these complexes are not intermediates in the catalytic reduction of ketones. NMR studies indicate that the tetrahydridoborate ligand in 1 dissociates prior to ketone reduction. DFT calculations show that the mechanism of the iron‐catalyzed hydrogenation of ketones involves alcohol‐assisted aromatization of the dearomatized complex [(iPr‐PNP*)Fe(H)(CO)] ( 7 ) to initially give the Fe0 complex [(iPr‐PNP)Fe(CO)] ( 21 ) and subsequently [(iPr‐PNP)Fe(CO)(EtOH)] ( 38 ). Concerted coordination of acetophenone and dual hydrogen‐atom transfer from the PNP arm and the coordinated ethanol to, respectively, the carbonyl carbon and oxygen atoms, leads to the dearomatized complex [(iPr‐PNP*)Fe(CO)(EtO)(MeCH(OH)Ph)] ( 32 ). The catalyst is regenerated by release of 1‐phenylethanol, followed by dihydrogen coordination and proton transfer to the coordinated ethoxide ligand.  相似文献

Critical phenomena in ethylbenzene oxidation in an acetic acid solution at high cobalt(III) concentrations (from 0.01 to 0.2 mol L−1) were studied at 60–90 °C by the gasometric (O2 absorption), spectrophotometric (CoIII accumulation), and chemiluminescence (relative concentration of radical RO2 ·) methods. These phenomena are as follows: (1) increase in the oxidation rate above the theoretical limiting rate of radical autooxidation (k 3 2[RH]2/2k 6); (2) achievement of a maximum and a sharp decrease in the oxidation rate and concentration of radical RO2 · with the further increase in the CoII concentration (existence of critical concentrations). The oxidation rate increases due to the reaction RO2 · + CoII + H+ → → ROOH + CoIII, while the inhibition effect is caused by the decay of RO2 · radical involving two cobalt(II) atoms: RO2 · + 2 CoII → R′CO + CoIII + CoII (k(70 °C) ≈ 300 L2 mol−2 s−1). The detailed scheme (through the formation of the complex RO2 ·CoII) describing the conjugation of these reactions was proposed. __________ Published in Russian in Izvestiya Akademii Nauk. Spinel oxides with the composition of AIIBIII2O4 (A and B are metal ions) represent an important class of anode material for water splitting to replace the currently used noble-metal catalysts. Although spinel electrocatalysts have widely been investigated for electrochemical water oxidation, the role of octahedral and tetrahedral sites influencing catalytic performance has been a topic of discussion for a long time and still under debate. Lately, this issue has been addressed by substituting redox-inert cation to the tetrahedral sites of cobalt spinels and comparing the electrochemical activity between them. However, rapid surface structural transformation of the catalysts under operating electrochemical conditions makes it difficult to infer the exact contribution of tetrahedral and octahedral sites for water oxidation. Herein, for the first time, we utilize the oxidant-driven water oxidation approach to reveal the responsible active sites using two spinel-type nanostructures, ZnIICo2IIIO4 and CoIICo2IIIO4 (Co3O4), synthesized by using a single-source precursor approach. Strikingly, a superior O2 production rate (0.98 mmolO2 molCo?1 s?1) following first-order reaction kinetics was achieved for ZnCo2O4 in the presence of CeIV as sacrificial electron acceptor compared to Co3O4 spinel (0.29 mmolO2 molCo?1 s?1). The structural and morphological stability of the ZnCo2O4 and Co3O4 post water oxidation catalysis confirms that the catalytic activity is strictly controlled by the geometry and electronic structure of the active site of the spinel structure. The higher performance of ZnCo2O4 over Co3O4 further indicates that the presence of CoII is not essential for catalytic water oxidation. The presence of redox inert ZnII at the tetrahedral site of ZnCo2O4 can facilitate the stabilization of a high-valent CoIV intermediate via oxidation of CoIII (situated at the octahedral site), and this intermediate can be regarded as the active species for water oxidation catalyst along with structural defects caused by surface Zn leaching.  相似文献

Simultaneous incorporation of both CoII and CoIII ions within a new thioether S‐bearing phenol‐based ligand system, H3L (2,6‐bis‐[{2‐(2‐hydroxyethylthio)ethylimino}methyl]‐4‐methylphenol) formed [Co5] aggregates [CoIICoIII4L2(μ‐OH)2(μ1,3‐O2CCH3)2](ClO4)4?H2O ( 1 ) and [CoIICoIII4L2(μ‐OH)2(μ1,3‐O2CC2H5)2](ClO4)4?H2O ( 2 ). The magnetic studies revealed axial zero‐field splitting (ZFS) parameter, D/hc=?23.6 and ?24.3 cm?1, and E/D=0.03 and 0.00, respectively for 1 and 2 . Dynamic magnetic data confirmed the complexes as SIMs with Ueff/kB=30 K ( 1 ) and 33 K ( 2 ), and τ0=9.1×10?8 s ( 1 ), and 4.3×10?8 s ( 2 ). The larger atomic radius of S compared to N gave rise to less variation in the distortion of tetrahedral geometry around central CoII centers, thus affecting the D and Ueff/kB values. Theoretical studies also support the experimental findings and reveal the origin of the anisotropy parameters. In solutions, both 1 and 2 which produce {CoIII2(μ‐L)} units, display solvent‐dependent catechol oxidation behavior toward 3,5‐di‐tert‐butylcatechol in air. The presence of an adjacent CoIII ion tends to assist the electron transfer from the substrate to the metal ion center, enhancing the catalytic oxidation rate.  相似文献

Co3O4, which is of mixed valences Co2+ and Co3+, has been extensively investigated as an efficient electrocatalyst for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The proper control of Co2+/Co3+ ratio in Co3O4 could lead to modifications on its electronic and thus catalytic properties. Herein, we designed an efficient Co3O4‐based OER electrocatalyst by a plasma‐engraving strategy, which not only produced higher surface area, but also generated oxygen vacancies on Co3O4 surface with more Co2+ formed. The increased surface area ensures the Co3O4 has more sites for OER, and generated oxygen vacancies on Co3O4 surface improve the electronic conductivity and create more active defects for OER. Compared to pristine Co3O4, the engraved Co3O4 exhibits a much higher current density and a lower onset potential. The specific activity of the plasma‐engraved Co3O4 nanosheets (0.055 mA cm?2BET at 1.6 V) is 10 times higher than that of pristine Co3O4, which is contributed by the surface oxygen vacancies.  相似文献

By using the crystalline precursor decomposition approach and direct co-precipitation the composition and mesostructure of cobalt-based spinels can be controlled. A systematic substitution of cobalt with redox-active iron and redox-inactive magnesium and aluminum in a cobalt spinel with anisotropic particle morphology with a preferred 111 surface termination is presented, resulting in a substitution series including Co3O4, MgCo2O4, Co2FeO4, Co2AlO4 and CoFe2O4. The role of redox pairs in the spinels is investigated in chemical water oxidation by using ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN test), electrochemical oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and H2O2 decomposition. Studying the effect of dominant surface termination, isotropic Co3O4 and CoFe2O4 catalysts with more or less spherical particles are compared to their anisotropic analogues. For CAN-test and OER, Co3+ plays the major role for high activity. In H2O2 decomposition, Co2+ reveals itself to be of major importance. Redox active cations in the structure enhance the catalytic activity in all reactions. A benefit of a predominant 111 surface termination depends on the cobalt oxidation state in the as-prepared catalysts and the investigated reaction.  相似文献

CO oxidation is a benchmark in heterogeneous catalysis for evaluation of redox catalysts due to its practical relevance in many applications and the fundamental problems associated with its very high activity at low temperatures. Among which, Co3O4 is one of the most active non-precious metal catalysts. Exposed crystal planes and cobalt sites are considered to be important for its high catalytic activity. Herein, we demonstrate an enhanced CO oxidation activity by a defect-rich mesoporous Co3O4 that prepared by a designed dual-template method. Two different kinds of silicas are used as hard-templates at the same time, resulting in a defect-rich mesoporous Co3O4 with a surface area as high as 169 m2/g. This catalyst exhibited a very high catalytic activity for low temperature CO oxidation with a light-off temperature at −73 oC under the space velocity of 80,000 mL h-1 gcat-1. Further studies reveal that the high surface area promotes the lattice oxygen mobility, surface rich of Co2+ species and active oxygen species are crucial for the high catalytic activity. Moreover, the dual-template approach paves a way towards the design and construction of high-surface-area mesoporous metal oxides for various applications.  相似文献
