In this paper we give some integer programming formulations for the Steiner tree problem on undirected and directed graphs and study the associated polyhedra. We give some families of facets for the undirected case along with some compositions and extensions. We also give a projection that relates the Steiner tree polyhedron on an undirected graph to the polyhedron for the corresponding directed graph. This is used to show that the LP-relaxation of the directed formulation is superior to the LP-relaxation of the undirected one.Corresponding author.  相似文献

In this paper we describe a cutting plane algorithm for the Steiner tree packing problem. We use our algorithm to solve some switchbox routing problems of VLSI-design and report on our computational experience. This includes a brief discussion of separation algorithms, a new LP-based primal heuristic and implementation details. The paper is based on the polyhedral theory for the Steiner tree packing polyhedron developed in our companion paper (this issue) and meant to turn this theory into an algorithmic tool for the solution of practical problems.  相似文献

Nash-Williams and Tutte independently characterized when a graph has k edge-disjoint spanning trees; a consequence is that 2k-edge-connected graphs have k edge-disjoint spanning trees. Kriesell conjectured a more general statement: defining a set SV(G) to be j-edge-connected in G if S lies in a single component of any graph obtained by deleting fewer than j edges from G, he conjectured that if S is 2k-edge-connected in G, then G has k edge-disjoint trees containing S. Lap Chi Lau proved that the conclusion holds whenever S is 24k-edge-connected in G.We improve Lau?s result by showing that it suffices for S to be 6.5k-edge-connected in G. This and an analogous result for packing stronger objects called “S-connectors” follow from a common generalization of the Tree Packing Theorem and Hakimi?s criterion for orientations with specified outdegrees. We prove the general theorem using submodular functions and the Matroid Union Theorem.  相似文献

We use the technique of divide-and-conquer to construct a rectilinear Steiner minimal tree on a set of sites in the plane. A well-known optimal algorithm for this problem by Dreyfus and Wagner [10] is used to solve the problem in the base case. The run time of our optimal algorithm is probabilistic in nature: for all ? > 0, there exists b > 0 such that Prob[T(n) > 2bn log n]>1–?, for n log n > 1 – ?, for n sites uniformly distributed on a rectangle. The key fact in the run-time argument is the existence of probable bounds on the number of edges of an optimal tree crossing our subdivision lines. We can test these bounds in low-degree polynomial time for any given set of sites. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

We consider the polyhedral approach to solving the capacitated facility location problem. The valid inequalities considered are the knapsack cover, flow cover, effective capacity, single depot, and combinatorial inequalities. The flow cover, effective capacity and single depot inequalities form subfamilies of the general family of submodular inequalities. The separation problem based on the family of submodular inequalities is NP-hard in general. For the well known subclass of flow cover inequalities, however, we show that if the client set is fixed, and if all capacities are equal, then the separation problem can be solved in polynomial time. For the flow cover inequalities based on an arbitrary client set and general capacities, and for the effective capacity and single depot inequalities we develop separation heuristics. An important part of these heuristics is based on the result that two specific conditions are necessary for the effective cover inequalities to be facet defining. The way these results are stated indicates precisely how structures that violate the two conditions can be modified to produce stronger inequalities. The family of combinatorial inequalities was originally developed for the uncapacitated facility location problem, but is also valid for the capacitated problem. No computational experience using the combinatorial inequalities has been reported so far. Here we suggest how partial output from the heuristic identifying violated submodular inequalities can be used as input to a heuristic identifying violated combinatorial inequalities. We consider a network design problem that generalizes the hop and diameter constrained Steiner tree problem as follows: Given an edge-weighted undirected graph with two disjoint subsets representing roots and terminals, find a minimum-weight subtree that spans all the roots and terminals so that the number of hops between each relevant node and an arbitrary root does not exceed a given hop limit H. The set of relevant nodes may be equal to the set of terminals, or to the union of terminals and root nodes. This article proposes integer linear programming models utilizing one layered graph for each root node. Different possibilities to relate solutions on each of the layered graphs as well as additional strengthening inequalities are then discussed. Furthermore, theoretical comparisons between these models and to previously proposed flow- and path-based formulations are given. To solve the problem to optimality, we implement branch-and-cut algorithms for the layered graph formulations. Our computational study shows their clear advantages over previously existing approaches.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the problem of packing Steiner trees in a graph. This problem arises during the global routing phase of circuit layout design. We consider various integer programming formulations and rank them according to lower bounds they provide as LP-relaxations. We discuss a solution procedure to obtain both lower and upper bounds using one of the LP-relaxations. Computational results to test the effectiveness of our procedures are provided.  相似文献

We consider the problem of constructing Steiner minimum trees for a metric defined by a polygonal unit circle (corresponding to σ ≥ 2 weighted legal orientations in the plane). A linear-time algorithm to enumerate all angle configurations for degree three Steiner points is given. We provide a simple proof that the angle configuration for a Steiner point extends to all Steiner points in a full Steiner minimum tree, such that at most six orientations suffice for edges in a full Steiner minimum tree. We show that the concept of canonical forms originally introduced for the uniform orientation metric generalises to the fixed orientation metric. Finally, we give an O(σ n) time algorithm to compute a Steiner minimum tree for a given full Steiner topology with n terminal leaves.  相似文献

On Steiner trees and minimum spanning trees in hypergraphs   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
The bottleneck of the state-of-the-art algorithms for geometric Steiner problems is usually the concatenation phase, where the prevailing approach treats the generated full Steiner trees as edges of a hypergraph and uses an LP-relaxation of the minimum spanning tree in hypergraph (MSTH) problem. We study this original and some new equivalent relaxations of this problem and clarify their relations to all classical relaxations of the Steiner problem. In an experimental study, an algorithm of ours which is designed for general graphs turns out to be an efficient alternative to the MSTH approach.  相似文献

Finding a shortest network interconnecting a given set of points in a metric space is called the Steiner minimum tree problem. The Steiner ratio is the largest lower bound for the ratio between lengths of a Steiner minimum tree and a minimum spanning tree for the same set of points. In this paper, we show that in a metric space, if the Steiner ratio is less than one and finding a Steiner minimum tree for a set of size bounded by a fixed number can be performed in polynomial time, then there exists a polynomialtime heuristic for the Steiner minimum tree problem with performance ratio bigger than the Steiner ratio. It follows that in the Euclidean plane, there exists a polynomial-time heuristic for Steiner minimum trees with performance ratio bigger than . Recently, Byrka, Grandoni, Rothvoß and Sanità gave a 1.39 approximation for the Steiner tree problem, using a hypergraph-based linear programming relaxation. They also upper-bounded its integrality gap by 1.55. We describe a shorter proof of the same integrality gap bound, by applying some of their techniques to a randomized loss-contracting algorithm.  相似文献

In the b-coloring problem, we aim to assign colors from a set C to the vertices of a graph G in such a way that adjacent vertices do not receive the same color, and for every cC we have a c-colored vertex v in G such that every color in C{c} is assigned to at least one of v’s neighbors. It has been shown that b-coloring is NP-complete, so we propose in this article an approach for the problem under integer programming techniques. To this end, we give an integer programming formulation and study the associated polytope. We provide several families of valid inequalities, and analyze facetness conditions for them. Finally, we show computational evidence suggesting that the given inequalities may be useful in a branch-and-cut environment.  相似文献

Consider the problem of routing the electrical connections among two large terminal sets in circuit layout. A realistic model for this problem is given by the vertex-disjoint packing of two Steiner trees (2VPST), which is known to be NP-complete. This work presents an investigation on the 2VPST polyhedra. The main idea is to start from facet-defining inequalities for a vertex-weighted Steiner tree polyhedra. Some of these inequalities are proven to also define facets for the packing polyhedra, while others are lifted to derive new important families of inequalities, including proven facets. Separation algorithms are provided. Branch-and-cut implementation issues are also discussed, including some new practical techniques to improve the performance of the algorithm. The resulting code is capable of solving problems on grid graphs with up to 10000 vertices and 5000 terminals in a few minutes. The Euclidean Steiner tree problem is to find the tree with minimal Euclidean length spanning a set of fixed points in the plane, allowing the addition of auxiliary points to the set (Steiner points). The problem is NP-hard, so polynomial-time heuristics are desired. We present two such heuristics, both of which utilize an efficient method for computing a locally optimal tree with a given topology. The first systematically inserts Steiner points between edges of the minimal spanning tree meeting at angles less than 120 degrees, performing a local optimization at the end. The second begins by finding the Steiner tree for three of the fixed points. Then, at each iteration, it introduces a new fixed point to the tree, connecting it to each possible edge by inserting a Steiner point, and minimizes over all connections, performing a local optimization for each. We present a variety of test cases that demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses of both algorithms. Kriesell conjectured that if λG({x,y})2k for any x,yS, then λG(S)k. He proved that the conjecture holds for |S|=3,4. In this paper, we give a short proof of Kriesell’s Conjecture for |S|=3,4, and also show that λk(G)1k?1k?2 (resp. κk(G)1k?1k?2 ) if λ(G)? (resp. κ(G)?) in G, where k=3,4. Moreover, we also study the relation between κk(L(G)) and λk(G), where L(G) is the line graph of G.  相似文献
