CW diode pumping and FM mode locking of a Nd: KGW laser   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
We have demonstrated cw diode end pumping of Nd: KGW, a novel solid-state gain medium, with up to 30% conversion efficiency into near-TEM00 (M2 < 1.05) output at = 1.067 µm for a pump level of 2.7 W. The slope efficiency was limited by intracavity reflections to 36%; however, direct comparison to a similar Nd:YAG laser indicates the same intrinsic slope efficiency of 60%. FM mode locking of this laser at 200 MHz has produced 12 ps pulses (compared to 16 ps for Nd: YAG), although an intracavity etalon was required. Considerable reduction in pulse width is possible (the line width limit is 0.5 ps) but different techniques may be necessary. Spatial hole burning was evident in both the 120 GHz free-running spectrum and the etalon-limited mode-locked spectrum.  相似文献

We have demonstrated the continuous wave laser operation of Yb3+:YVO4. For Ti:Al2O3 laser pumping at 985 nm, a maximum slope efficiency of 41.1% and a threshold pump power of 76 mW were obtained. The maximum output power was 433 mW at a laser wavelength of 1037 nm.Using a cw diode laser around 974 nm as a pump source, a slope efficiency of 10.9% and a maximum output power of 152 mW were achieved at a laser wavelength of 1039 nm. The laser threshold pump power was 608 mW with respect to the absorbed pump power. The effective emission cross-sections for the 2F5/22F7/2 transition were determined using the Füchtbauer–Ladenburg equation. The maxima of the effective absorption and emission cross-sections were found at 984.5 nm (6.74×10-20 cm2) in -po larization and 985.5 nm (4.28×10-20 cm2) also in -p olarization. The upper laser level lifetime was measured with suppression of radiation trapping and is around 318 s. PACS 42.55.Rz; 42.55.Xi; 42.70.Hj  相似文献

Some of the proposed Lagrangians and their corresponding field equations for a gravitational theory based on a Riemann-Cartan space with metric-compatible connection (U 4, theory) are compared and a new one is suggested. This Lagiangian, and that of P. von der Heyde and F. W. Hehl et al. are examined applying the Gordon-decomposition argument. Finally, Einstein's field equations with cosmological term are shown to be included in some sense, but the cosmological constant naturally has microphysical origin. Intense far-infrared laser action is reported for carbonyl fluoride and vinyl fluoride. Eleven new lines with wavelengths between 339 m538 m were obtained by optically pumping carbonyl fluoride with numerous lines of the 10.4 m band of a cw CO2 laser. Twenty-three lines with wavelengths in the range 172 m783 m were detected when pumping the recently discovered efficient FIR laser molecule vinyl fluoride. In addition, three very weak new lines were found using 1.1-difluoroethylen.  相似文献

Highly efficient room-temperature operation of a Ho:YAG laser end pumped by a cladding-pumped tunable Tm-doped silica-fibre laser operating at 1905 nm is reported. Using a simple two-mirror resonator configuration, we obtained 6.4 W of unpolarized output at 2097 nm in a diffraction-limited TEM00 beam (with M21.1) for 9.6 W of incident pump power, corresponding to a slope efficiency with respect to incident pump power of 80% and an optical-to-optical efficiency of 67%. Using a folded-resonator configuration incorporating a Brewster-angled glass plate, we obtained 5.8 W of linearly polarized TEM00 output, corresponding to an optical-to-optical efficiency of 60%. Due to low quantum defect heating, the depolarization loss due to thermally induced birefringence in the Ho:YAG crystal was <0.14% at the maximum available pump power, indicating that there is scope for further power scaling. Room-temperature cw lasing at 1.061 m has been obtained in Cr,Nd: GdScGa-garnet. Threshold powers as low as 7 mW and slope efficiencies up to 41% have been measured. Cross pumping of Nd3+ via Cr3+ is nearly as efficient as direct pumping. Time-resolved measurements of the transfer rate yield a transfer efficiency of 0.86 and an average transfer time of 17 s. An improvement in pulsed broad band pumping can also be expected.  相似文献

The fundamental characteristics of a continuous-wave high-power diode-pumped Tm3+, Ho3+-doped double-clad silica fibre laser are presented. A maximum output power of 5.2 W was measured and was generated at a slope efficiency of 42 (44)% with respect to the launched (absorbed) pump power. At the optimum length of 7 m (effL=2.9, where eff is the effective absorption coefficient of the fibre and L is the fibre length), the fibre laser output was measured to have a centre wavelength of 2105 nm and a line width of 20 nm. Theoretical and experimental aspects of the study of the e-- problem in effects of neutral weak currents in colliding e+e beams in the region of the Z resonance are discussed. Quantities that describe the degree of violation of e-- universality are analyzed. Lasing in dynamic-distributed-feedback (DDFB) laser on the basis of a modified sol-gel matrix activated with Rhodamine 4C is reported. The lasing is achieved in the range of 590 nm with a wavelength tuning of about 20 nm. The slope efficiency of the sol-gel DDFB laser excited by the second harmonic radiation of a YAG:Nd3+ laser with a pulse duration of 40 ns is 16.5% at a lasing wavelength of 593 nm. The DDFB laser is also characterized by a threshold pumping energy of 90 J and a pumping energy density up to 40 mJ/cm2. The typical spectral width of the laser line is 0.025 nm.  相似文献

A diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser at 1123 nm is passively Q-switched by using a low doping concentration Cr4+:YAG crystal as a saturable absorber. When pumped by a 1.5-W laser diode, the laser produces pulses of 50-ns duration with a pulse energy of as much as 15 J and a peak power of 300 W at a pulse-repetition rate of 10 kHz. The microchip lasers based on the neodymium or the ytterbium doped yttrium-aluminium garnet crystal and Q-sw itched by the Cr4+:YAG film are considered. The optimal (maximizing of energy) values of the pumping beam radius, the absorber parameters (the thickness and tetravalent chromium ion concentration), and the output mirror reflectivity are determined. The possibility of higher values of energy in the Yb:YAG laser pulse, in comparison with a more traditional Nd:YAG laser, is also substantiated. PACS 42.60.Gd  相似文献

Tm-doped ZBLAN and Tm-doped silica glass are compared spectroscopically and the fiber lasing of the Tm 3F43H6 transition around 1.9 m in ZBLAN and silica fibers is compared. The spectroscopy of these materials indicates that Tm:ZBLAN possesses advantages over Tm:silica glass due to the lower phonon energies. The phonon energy in these glass hosts influences both the pump manifold lifetime, the Tm 3H4, and the upper laser manifold lifetime, the Tm 3F4. The maximum phonon energy in Tm:ZBLAN, 500 cm-1 , compared to Tm:silica, 1100 cm-1, leads to better Tm–Tm self quenching towards populating the Tm 3F4, as well as better Tm 3F43H6 quantum efficiency. A spectroscopic analysis using the Judd–Ofelt theory and measured lifetimes are used to assess the merits of Tm:ZBLAN over Tm:silica as a fiber laser material. Diode-pumped fiber lasing experiments show that Tm:ZBLAN possesses advantages over Tm:silica that are believed to be due to a lower phonon energy. Data is presented for launched pump energy versus laser energy, fiber length versus slope efficiency, and output mirror reflectivity versus slope efficiency. Tm:ZBLAN is demonstrated to possess higher slope efficiencies and lower thresholds, than Tm:silicate. Short FIR laser pulses of high repetition rate are obtained by pumping NH3 with the pulses of a passively Q-switched IR laser. The two cascade laser transitions observed show coupled relaxation oscillations. We report on the development and comprehensive characterization of a room-temperature single-mode 2-m Tm-Ho:KYF laser. A maximum CW output power of 70 mW at the central wavelength of 2.078 m has been obtained. Using a 5-mm long intracavity birefringent filter the single-mode emission wavelength can be tuned over a range of 40 nm. Both frequency and relative intensity noise have been investigated showing a 1-ms emission linewidth of 600 kHz and an intensity noise spectrum that is quantum-noise limited for Fourier frequencies higher than 1 MHz. Using a grating-tuned CO2-TEA laser to pump CH3OH in a metallic-wave-guide resonator, submillimeter laser emissions have been produced by pumping with 36 lines in the 9.4m CO2 band and with 23 lines in the 10.6m band. Several dozen new SMM laser lines were observed. Wavelengths accurate to within 0.1% are given for 12 previously unmeasured lines between 34m and 225m.  相似文献

An unified miniature optically pumped NH3 submillimeter wave laser (OPSMMWL), including a mini TEA-CO2 pump laser, was developed. It lased successfully with coherent emission at 67.2m, 90.4m and 151.5m. The optimum operation of the unified mini-OPSMMWL was studied experimentally and the relations among SMMW laser output power, operating gas pressure, length and coupling condition of the cavity were measured. It has been found that buffer gas N2 has significant effect on 67.2m and 151.5m emissions and very wide band SMMW laser emission was a common feature of the mini-OPSMMW cavity laser.  相似文献

We study the continuous-wave (cw) characteristics of both two-manifold and three-manifold Tm: YAG laser pumped at p 1.8 µm or p = 0.785 µm and lasing at 1 = 2.02 µm. The three-manifold rate equations are adiabatically reduced to their two-manifold form. For each pumping scheme, the steady-state rate equations are combined with the cw differential equations for the forward- and reverse-lasing fields and the pump-depletion differential equation. These three coupled cw differential equations are solved analytically. This gives the linear flux-conservation law between the input pump and the laser output, the minimum crystal length, and optimal output couplings. We show that the major difference between these two pumping schemes is due to the different pump effective absorption cross sections and not the two-for-one cross relaxation. Our example shows that the minimum intensity threshold and optimal crystal length are smaller for pumping at tp = 0.785 µm than pumping at p 1.8 µm.  相似文献

We have demonstrated passively Q-switched mode-locking in a laser-diode-pumped Nd:GdVO4 laser with an intracavity Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber. At a pump power of 19.4 W, the Q-switched mode-locked laser produced an average output power of 3.22 W, and the repetition rates of the Q-switched envelope and the mode-locked laser pulse were 227 kHz and 144 MHz, respectively. A compact eye-safe optical parametric oscillator (OPO) using a noncritically phase-matched KTP crystal intracavity pumped by a passively Q-switched Nd:YVO4 laser is experimentally demonstrated. To enhance the performance of passive Q-switching, a Cr4+:YAG saturable absorber crystal is coated as an OPO output coupler in a nearly hemispherical cavity. With an incident pump power of 2.5 W, the compact intracavity OPO cavity, operating at 62.5 kHz, produces average powers at 1573 nm up to 255 mW and peak powers higher than 1 kW.
