The viscous dissipation effect on forced convection in a porous saturated circular tube with an isoflux wall is investigated on the basis of the Brinkman flow model. For the thermally developing region, a numerical study is reported while a perturbation analysis is presented to find expressions for the temperature profile and the Nusselt number for the fully developed region. The fully developed Nusselt number found by numerical solution for the developing region is compared with that of asymptotic analysis and a good degree of agreement is observed.  相似文献

A numerical study of mixed convection in a vertical channel filled with a porous medium including the effect of inertial forces is studied by taking into account the effect of viscous and Darcy dissipations. The flow is modeled using the Brinkman–Forchheimer-extended Darcy equations. The two boundaries are considered as isothermal–isothermal, isoflux–isothermal and isothermal–isoflux for the left and right walls of the channel and kept either at equal or at different temperatures. The governing equations are solved numerically by finite difference method with Southwell–Over–Relaxation technique for extended Darcy model and analytically using perturbation series method for Darcian model. The velocity and temperature fields are obtained for various porous parameter, inertia effect, product of Brinkman number and Grashof number and the ratio of Grashof number and Reynolds number for equal and different wall temperatures. Nusselt number at the walls is also determined for three types of thermal boundary conditions. The viscous dissipation enhances the flow reversal in the case of downward flow while it counters the flow in the case of upward flow. The Darcy and inertial drag terms suppress the flow. It is found that analytical and numerical solutions agree very well for the Darcian model. An erratum to this article is available at .  相似文献

The effects of viscous dissipation on thermal entrance heat transfer in a parallel plate channel filled with a saturated porous medium, is investigated analytically on the basis of a Darcy model. The case of isothermal boundary is treated. The local and the bulk temperature distribution along with the Nusselt number in the thermal entrance region were found. The fully developed Nusselt number, independent of the Brinkman number, is found
to be 6. It is observed that neglecting the effects of viscous dissipation would lead to the well-known case of internal flows, with Nusselt number equal to 4.93. A finite difference numerical solution is also utilized. It is seen that the results of these two methods, analytical and numerical, are in good agreement.  相似文献

An analysis of fully developed combined free and forced convective flow in a fluid saturated porous medium channel bounded by two vertical parallel plates is presented. The flow is modeled using Brinkman equation model. The viscous and Darcy dissipation terms are also included in the energy equation. Three types of thermal boundary conditions such as isothermal–isothermal, isoflux–isothermal, and isothermal–isoflux for the left–right walls of the channel are considered. Analytical solutions for the governing ordinary differential equations are obtained by perturbation series method. In addition, closed form expressions for the Nusselt number at both the left and right channel walls are derived. Results have been presented for a wide range of governing parameters such as porous parameter, ratio of Grashof number and Reynolds number, viscosity ratio, width ratio, and conductivity ratio on velocity, and temperature fields. It is found that the presence of porous matrix in one of the region reduces the velocity and temperature.  相似文献

The problem of unsteady oscillatory flow and heat transfer of porous medin sandwiched between viscous fluids has been considered through a horizontal channel with isothermal wall temperatures. The flow in the porous medium is modeled using the Brinkman equation. The governing partial differential equations are transformed to ordinary differential equations by collecting the non-periodic and periodic terms. Closed-form solutions for each region are found after applying the boundary and interface conditions. The influence of physical parameters, such as the porous parameter, the frequency parameter, the periodic frequency parameter, the viscosity ratios, the conductivity ratios, and the Prandtl number, on the velocity and temperature fields is computed numerically and presented graphically. In addition, the numerical values of the Nusselt number at the top and bottom walls are derived and tabulated.  相似文献

The convective instability activated by the sole effect of viscous dissipation in a fluid saturated porous layer is studied. The basic parallel flow in a highly permeable porous medium is analysed by considering the viscous heating contribution in the local energy balance, by assuming a thermally insulated lower boundary and an isothermal upper boundary. The Brinkman model of momentum transfer is adopted. Arbitrarily oriented oblique roll disturbances are considered in the linear stability analysis. Among them, the longitudinal rolls, having axis parallel to the basic flow direction, are shown to be the preferred mode of instability. Some considerations on the reliability of the Brinkman model, when the viscous dissipation contribution is not negligible and when the flow conditions are close to the limiting case of a clear fluid, are finally expressed.  相似文献

Fully developed forced convection in a parallel plate channel filled by a saturated porous medium, with walls held either at uniform temperature or at uniform heat flux, with the effects of viscous dissipation and flow work included, is treated analytically. The Brinkman model is employed. The analysis leads to expressions for the Nusselt number, as a function of the Darcy number and Brinkman number.  相似文献

A modified Graetz methodology is applied to investigate the thermal development of forced convection in a circular duct filled by a saturated porous medium, with walls held at constant temperature, and with the effects of longitudinal conduction and viscous dissipation included. The Brinkman model is employed. The analysis leads to expressions for the local Nusselt number, as a function of the dimensionless longitudinal coordinate and other parameters (Darcy number, Péclet number, Brinkman number).  相似文献

The asymptotic behaviour of laminar forced convection for Bingham fluid in a circular tube subjected to an axially varying wall heat flux is studied analytically. The effect of viscous dissipation is taken into account while the axial heat conduction in the fluid is considered as negligible. The asymptotic temperature profile and the asymptotic Nusselt number are determined for various axial wall heat flux distributions which yield a thermally developed region. The results obtained show a diminution in asymptotic Nusselt number when the Brinkman number and the dimensionless radius of the plug flow region increase. Comparisons with the results in the literature for Newtonian fluids show the validity of the present analysis. To cite this article: R. Khatyr et al., C. R. Mecanique 330 (2002) 69–75.  相似文献

Entropy generation for thermally developing forced convection in a porous medium bounded by two isothermal parallel plates is investigated analytically on the basis of the Darcy flow model where the viscous dissipation effects had also been taken into account. A parametric study showed that decreasing the group parameter and the Peclet number increases the entropy generation while for the Brinkman number the converse is true. Heatline visualization technique is applied with an emphasis on the Br 〈 0 case where there is somewhere that heat transfer changes direction at some streamwise location to the wall instead of its original direction, i.e., from the wall.  相似文献

In this study, thermally developing laminar forced convection in a pipe including viscous dissipation and wall conductance is investigated numerically. The constant heat flux is assumed to be imposed at the outer surface of the pipe wall. The finite volume method is used. The distributions for the developing temperature and local Nusselt number in the entrance region are obtained. The dependence of the results on the Brinkman number and the dimensionless thermal conductivity are shown. The viscous heating effect on the wall is shown. Significant viscous dissipation effects have been observed for large Br.  相似文献

A theoretical solution is presented for the convective heat transfer of Giesekus viscoelastic fluid in pipes and channels, under fully developed thermal and hydrodynamic flow conditions, for an imposed constant heat flux at the wall. The fluid properties are taken as constant and axial conduction is negligible. The effect of Weissenberg number (We), mobility parameter (α) and Brinkman number (Br) on the temperature profile and Nusselt number are investigated. The results emphasize the significant effect of viscous dissipation and fluid elasticity on the Nusselt number in all circumstances. For wall cooling and the Brinkman number exceeds a critical value (Br 1), the heat generated by viscous dissipation overcomes the heat removed at the wall and fluid heats up longitudinally. Fluid elasticity shifts this critical Brinkman number to higher values.  相似文献

An analytical study on fully developed forced convection in a homogeneous porous medium is reported. Incorporating the internal heating effect of viscous dissipation, closed form solutions of the temperature distributions in the transverse direction are obtained and analyzed for both heating and cooling processes. Variations of Nusselt number as a function of Darcy number and Brinkman number and the existence of singularity in Nusselt number are also discussed. Forced convection heat transfer in fully developed flows of viscous dissipating fluids in concentric annular ducts is analyzed analytically. Special attention has been paid to the effect of the viscous dissipation. Two different cases of the thermal boundary conditions are considered: uniform heat flux at the outer wall and adiabatic inner wall (Case A) and uniform heat flux at the inner wall and adiabatic outer wall (Case B). Solutions for the velocity and temperature distributions and the Nusselt number are obtained for different values of the aspect ratio and the Brinkman number. The present analytical results for the case without the viscous dissipation effect are compared with those available in the literature and an excellent agreement is observed. To cite this article: M. This article is devoted to combined convection heat transfer of nanofluids through a vertical channel filled with a homogeneous and isotropic porous medium. The flow is assumed to be fully developed and the “Brinkman extended Darcy” model is used for the flow in the porous media and “clear compatible” viscous dissipation model is considered. Also the model utilized for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis. The governing momentum, energy, and nanopartices volume fraction equations are solved both analytically and numerically. The effects of the influential dimensionless parameters such as Brownian and thermophoresis parameters, mixed convection parameter (Gr/Re), Brinkman, Darcy and Lewis numbers on dimensionless velocity and temperature distributions and pressure drop are studied. Also, the results of the Nusselt number for the both left and right walls are presented and discussed.  相似文献

Analytical and numerical analyses have been performed for fully developed forced convection in a fluid-saturated porous medium channel bounded by two parallel plates. The channel walls are assumed to be finite in thickness. Conduction heat transfer inside the channel wall is also accounted and the full problem is treated as a conjugate heat transfer problem. The flow in the porous material is described by the Darcy–Brinkman momentum equation. The outer surfaces of the solid walls are treated as isothermal. A temperature dependent volumetric heat generation is considered inside the solid wall only. Analytical expressions for velocity, temperature, and Nusselt number are obtained after simplifying and solving the governing differential equations with reasonable approximations. Subsequent results obtained by numerical calculations show an excellent agreement with the analytical results.  相似文献

Fully developed combined convection in a horizontal double-passage channel has been investigated by taking into account the effect of viscous dissipation. Uniform wall temperatures with asymmetric and symmetric heating have been considered. The results showed that the increase in Brinkman number decreases the Nusselt number on the hot wall and increases that on the cold wall specially when the baffle becomes near the hot wall or the cold wall, respectively. The modelling of viscous dissipation in a porous medium saturated by an incompressible fluid is discussed, for the case of Darcy, Forchheimer and Brinkman models. An apparent paradox relating to the effect of inertial effects on viscous dissipation is resolved, and some wider aspects of resistance to flow (concerning quadratic drag and cubic drag) in a porous medium are discussed. Criteria are given for the importance or otherwise of viscous dissipation in various situations.  相似文献

An analytical study of viscous dissipation effect on the fully developed forced convection Couette flow through a parallel plate channel partially filled with porous medium is presented. A uniform heat flux is imposed at the moving plate while the fixed plate is insulated. In the fluid-only region the flow field is governed by Navier–Stokes equation while the Brinkman-extended Darcy law relationship is considered in the fully saturated porous medium. The interface conditions are formulated with an empirical constant β due to the stress jump boundary condition. Fluid properties are assumed to be constant and the longitudinal heat conduction is neglected. A closed-form solution for the velocity and temperature distributions and also the Nusselt number in the channel are obtained and the viscous dissipation effect on these profiles is briefly investigated.  相似文献
