The easy and effective separation of proteins from a mixture is crucial in proteomics. A supramolecular method is described to selectively capture and precipitate one protein from a protein mixture upon application of a magnetic field. A multivalent complex self‐assembles in a dilute aqueous solution of three components: magnetic nanoparticles capped with cyclodextrin, non‐covalent cross‐linkers with an adamantane and a carbohydrate moiety, and lectins. The self‐assembled ternary complex is precipitated in a magnetic field and readily redispersed with the aid of a non‐ionic surfactant and competitive binding agents. This strategy to purify proteins by supramolecular magnetic precipitation is highly selective and efficient.  相似文献

Coordination‐driven self‐assembly of differently shaped di‐ to hexavalent crown‐ether host molecules is described. A series of [21]crown‐7‐ and [24]crown‐8‐substituted bipyridine and terpyridine ligands was synthetized in a “toolbox” approach. Subsequent coordination to 3d transition metal and ruthenium(II) ions provides an easy and fast access to host assemblies with variable valency and pre‐defined orientations of the crown‐ether moieties. Preliminary isothermal calorimetry (ITC) titrations provided promising results, which indicated the host complexes under study to be suitable for the future investigation of multivalent and cooperative binding. The hosts described herein will also be suitable for the construction of various multiply threaded mechanically interlocked molecules.  相似文献

Directing self‐assembly processes out‐of‐equilibrium to yield kinetically trapped materials with well‐defined dimensions remains a considerable challenge. Kinetically controlled assembly of self‐synthesizing peptide‐functionalized macrocycles through a nucleation–growth mechanism is reported. Spontaneous fiber formation in this system is effectively shut down as most of the material is diverted into metastable non‐assembling trimeric and tetrameric macrocycles. However, upon adding seeds to this mixture, well‐defined fibers with controllable lengths and narrow polydispersities are obtained. This seeded growth strategy also allows access to supramolecular triblock copolymers. The resulting noncovalent assemblies can be further stabilized through covalent capture. Taken together, these results show that self‐synthesizing materials, through their interplay between dynamic covalent bonds and noncovalent interactions, are uniquely suited for out‐of‐equilibrium self‐assembly.  相似文献

The social self‐sorting supramolecular assembly is described by non‐covalent interactions among four organic components. Toward this goal, a series of self‐sorting systems have been investigated by mixing two or three different compounds; naphthyl‐bridged bis(α‐cyclodextrin), N,N′‐dioctyl‐4,4′‐bipyridinium, 2,6‐dihydroxynaphthalene, and cucurbit[8]uril. The influence of alkyl chains of viologen derivatives and the binding abilities of these systems have also been studied. Their integrative self‐sorting led to the exclusive formation of the purple supramolecular heterowheel polypseudorotaxane. The heterowheel polypseudorotaxane is a thermodynamically stable self‐sorted product, and consists of two different macrocycles with three sorts of different non‐covalent interactions. Its structure was established by NMR spectroscopy and UV/Vis absorption spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), dynamic light‐scattering (DLS), diffusion‐ordered spectroscopy (DOSY), and viscosity measurements.  相似文献

To overcome the limitations of molecular assemblies, the development of novel supramolecular building blocks and self‐assembly modes is essential to create more sophisticated, complex, and controllable aggregates. The self‐assembly of peptide–DNA conjugates (PDCs), in which two orthogonal self‐assembly modes, that is, β‐sheet formation and Watson–Crick base pairing, are covalently combined in one supramolecular system, is reported. Despite extensive research, most self‐assembly studies have focused on using only one type of building block, which restricts structural and functional diversity compared to multicomponent systems. Multicomponent systems, however, suffer from poor control of self‐assembly behaviors. Covalently conjugated PDC building blocks are shown to assemble into well‐defined and controllable nanostructures. This controllability likely results from the decrease in entropy associated with the restriction of the molecular degrees of freedom by the covalent constraints. Using this strategy, the possibility to thermodynamically program nano‐assemblies to exert gene regulation activity with low cytotoxicity is demonstrated.  相似文献

The results presented here highlight the extremely useful nature of ultra‐short peptides as building blocks in the development of smart multicomponent supramolecular devices. A facile bottom‐up strategy for the synthesis of a small library of stimuli‐responsive smart organogelators has been proposed based on the predictive self‐assembly of ultra‐short peptides. More importantly, the narcissistic self‐sorting of the gelators has been evaluated as a simple method for the efficient co‐assembly of a donor–acceptor dual‐component gel, allowing the investigation of possible future applications of similar systems in the development of a supramolecular photo‐conversion device. Interestingly, it was observed that the self‐organization of the components can lead to highly ordered systems in which discrimination between compatible and non‐compatible building blocks directs the effective organization of the chromophores and gives rise to the formation of an excited‐state complex with exciplex‐like emission. The current report may prove important in the development of organogel‐based multicomponent smart devices.  相似文献

Despite the remarkable progress made in controllable self‐assembly of stimuli‐responsive supramolecular polymers (SSPs), a basic issue that has not been consideration to date is the essential binding site. The noncovalent binding sites, which connect the building blocks and endow supramolecular polymers with their ability to respond to stimuli, are expected to strongly affect the self‐assembly of SSPs. Herein, the design and synthesis of a dual‐stimuli thermo‐ and photoresponsive Y‐shaped supramolecular polymer (SSP2) with two adjacent β‐cyclodextrin/azobenzene (β‐CD/Azo) binding sites, and another SSP (SSP1) with similar building blocks, but only one β‐CD/Azo binding site as a control, are described. Upon gradually increasing the polymer solution temperature or irradiating with UV light, SSP2 self‐assemblies with a higher binding‐site distribution density; exhibits a flower‐like morphology, smaller size, and more stable dynamic aggregation process; and greater controllability for drug‐release behavior than those observed with SSP1 self‐assemblies. The host–guest binding‐site‐tunable self‐assembly was attributed to the positive cooperativity generated among adjacent binding sites on the surfaces of SSP2 self‐assemblies. This work is beneficial for precisely controlling the structural parameters and controlled release function of SSP self‐assemblies.  相似文献

Hierarchical self‐assembly of complex supramolecular architectures allows for the emergence of novel properties at each level of complexity. The reaction of the ligand components A and B with FeII cations generates the [2×2] grid‐type functional building modules 1 and 2 , presenting spin‐transition properties and preorganizing an array of coordination sites that sets the stage for a second assembly step. Indeed, binding of LaIII ions to 1 and of AgI ions to 2 leads to a 1D columnar superstructure 3 and to a wall‐like 2D layer 4 , respectively, with concomitant modulation of the magnetic properties of 1 and 2 . Thus, to each of the two levels of structural complexity generated by the two sequential self‐assembly steps corresponds the emergence of novel functional features.  相似文献

Incorporation of non‐equilibrium actions in the sequence of self‐assembly processes would be an effective means to establish bio‐like high functionality hierarchical assemblies. As a novel methodology beyond self‐assembly, nanoarchitectonics, which has as its aim the fabrication of functional materials systems from nanoscopic units through the methodological fusion of nanotechnology with other scientific disciplines including organic synthesis, supramolecular chemistry, microfabrication, and bio‐process, has been applied to this strategy. The application of non‐equilibrium factors to conventional self‐assembly processes is discussed on the basis of examples of directed assembly, Langmuir–Blodgett assembly, and layer‐by‐layer assembly. In particular, examples of the fabrication of hierarchical functional structures using bio‐active components such as proteins or by the combination of bio‐components and two‐dimensional nanomaterials, are described. Methodologies described in this review article highlight possible approaches using the nanoarchitectonics concept beyond self‐assembly for creation of bio‐like higher functionalities and hierarchical structural organization.  相似文献

Here we report on how metastable supramolecular gels can be formed through seeded self‐assembly of multicomponent gelators. Hydrazone‐based gelators decorated with non‐ionic and anionic groups are formed in situ from hydrazide and aldehyde building blocks, and lead through multiple self‐sorting processes to the formation of heterogeneous gels approaching thermodynamic equilibrium. Interestingly, the addition of seeds composing of oligomers of gelators bypasses the self‐sorting processes and accelerates the self‐assembly along a kinetically favored pathway, resulting in homogeneous gels of which the network morphologies and gel stiffness are markedly different from the thermodynamically more stable gel products. Importantly, over time, these metastable homogeneous gel networks are capable of converting into the thermodynamically more stable state. This seeding‐driven formation of out‐of‐equilibrium supramolecular structures is expected to serve as a simple approach towards functional materials with pathway‐dependent properties.  相似文献

We describe herein the hierarchical self‐assembly of discrete supramolecular metallacycles into ordered fibers or spherical particles through multiple noncovalent interactions. A new series of well‐defined metallacycles decorated with long alkyl chains were obtained through metal–ligand interactions, which were capable of aggregating into ordered fibroid or spherical nanostructures on the surface, mostly driven by hydrophobic interactions. In‐depth studies indicated that the morphology diversity was originated from the structural information encoded in the metallacycles, including the number of alkyl chains and their spatial orientation. Interestingly, the morphology of the metallacycle aggregates could be tuned by changing the solvent polarity. These findings are of special significance since they provide a simple yet highly controllable approach to prepare ordered and tunable nanostructures from small building blocks by means of hierarchical self‐assembly.  相似文献

The self‐assembly into supramolecular polymers is a process driven by reversible non‐covalent interactions between monomers, and gives access to materials applications incorporating mechanical, biological, optical or electronic functionalities. Compared to the achievements in precision polymer synthesis via living and controlled covalent polymerization processes, supramolecular chemists have only just learned how to developed strategies that allow similar control over polymer length, (co)monomer sequence and morphology (random, alternating or blocked ordering). This highlight article discusses the unique opportunities that arise when coassembling multicomponent supramolecular polymers, and focusses on four strategies in order to control the polymer architecture, size, stability and its stimuli‐responsive properties: (1) end‐capping of supramolecular polymers, (2) biomimetic templated polymerization, (3) controlled selectivity and reactivity in supramolecular copolymerization, and (4) living supramolecular polymerization. In contrast to the traditional focus on equilibrium systems, our emphasis is also on the manipulation of self‐assembly kinetics of synthetic supramolecular systems. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. A “chirality driven self‐sorting” strategy is introduced for the controlled supramolecular organization of donor (D) and acceptor (A) molecules in multicomponent assemblies. The trans‐1,2‐bis(amido)cyclohexane (trans‐BAC) has been identified as a supramolecular motif with strong homochiral recognition to direct this chirality controlled assembly process of enantiomers in solution. Stereoselective supramolecular polymerization of trans‐BAC appended naphthalene diimide monomers (NDIs) has been probed in detail by spectroscopic and mechanistic investigations. This chirality‐driven self‐sorting design of enantiomeric components also offers to realize mixed and segregated D‐A stacks by supramolecular co‐assembly of the NDI acceptors with trans‐BAC appended dialkoxynaphthalene (DAN) donor monomers. Such an unprecedented chirality control on D‐A organization paves the way for the creation of supramolecular p‐n nanostructures with controlled molecular‐level organization.  相似文献

Directing the supramolecular polymerization towards a preferred type of organization is extremely important in the design of functional soft materials. Proposed herein is a simple methodology to tune the length and optical chirality of supramolecular polymers formed from a chiral bichromophoric binaphthalene by the control of enantiomeric excess (ee). The enantiopure compound gave thin fibers longer than a few microns, while the racemic mixture favored the formation of nanoparticles. The thermodynamic study unveils that the heterochiral assembly gets preference over the homochiral assembly. The stronger heterochiral binding over homochiral one terminated the elongation of fibrous assembly, thus leading to a control over the length of fibers in the nonracemic mixtures. The supramolecular polymerization driven by π–π interactions highlights the effect of the geometry of a twisted π‐core on this self‐sorting assembly.  相似文献

We designed efficient precursors that combine complementary associative groups with exceptional binding affinities and thiocarbonylthio moieties enabling precise RAFT polymerization. Well defined PS and PMMA supramolecular polymers with molecular weights up to 30 kg mol?1 are synthesized and shown to form highly stable supramolecular diblock copolymers (BCPs) when mixed, in non‐polar solvents or in the bulk. Hierarchical self‐assembly of such supramolecular BCPs by thermal annealing affords morphologies with excellent lateral order, comparable to features expected from covalent diblock copolymer analogues. Simple washing of the resulting materials with protic solvents disrupts the supramolecular association and selectively dissolves one polymer, affording a straightforward process for preparing well‐ordered nanoporous materials without resorting to crosslinking or invasive chemical degradations.  相似文献

Two bola‐amphiphilic small molecules, based on the diphenylanthracene skeleton structure, namely, BASM‐1 and its functionalized small molecule BASM‐2 , were designed and synthesized. The self‐assembly behavior and mechanism of these two molecules in aqueous solution were studied. The supramolecular two‐dimensional (2D) layer and the covalent 2D polymers were, respectively, prepared by these two molecules. What is more, the transverse size of the covalent 2D polymer laminates increased with the extension of the polymerization time. Atomic force microscopy results showed that both free‐standing single‐layer 2D polymers and few layer laminates with two to three molecular layers were obtained. So our work provides a simple and efficient method for directly preparing independent both supramolecular 2D polymers and covalent 2D polymers in liquid phase which is of great significance. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The self‐assembly of triangular‐shaped oligo(phenylene ethynylenes) (OPEs), peripherally decorated with chiral and linear paraffinic chains, is investigated in bulk, onto surfaces and in solution. Whilst the X‐ray diffraction data for the chiral studied systems display a broad reflection centered at 2θ ~20° (λ=Cu), the higher crystallinity of OPE 3 , endowed with three linear decyl chains, results in a diffractrogram with a number of well‐resolved reflections that can be accurately indexed as a columnar packing arranged in 2D oblique cells. Compounds (S)‐ 1 a and (R)‐ 1 b —endowed with (S) and (R)‐3,7‐dimethyloctyloxy chains—transfer their chirality to the supramolecular structures formed upon their self‐assembly, and give rise to helical nanostructures of opposite handedness. A helicity switch is noticeable for the case of chiral (S)‐ 2 decorated with (S)‐2‐methylnonyloxy chains which forms right‐handed helices despite it possesses the same stereoconfiguration for their stereogenic carbons as (S)‐ 1 a that self‐assembles into left‐handed helices. The stability and the mechanism of the supramolecular polymerization in solution have been investigated by UV/Vis experiments in methylcyclohexane. These studies demonstrate that the larger the distance between the stereogenic carbon and the aromatic framework is, the more stable the aggregate is. Additionally, the self‐assembly mechanism is conditioned by the peripheral substituents: whereas compounds (S)‐ 1 a and (R)‐ 1 b self‐assemble in a cooperative manner with a low degree of cooperativity, the aggregation of (S)‐ 2 and 3 is well described by an isodesmic model. Therefore, the interaction between the chiral coil chains conditions the handedness of the helical pitch, the stability of the supramolecular structure and the supramolecular polymerization mechanism of the studied OPEs.  相似文献

Reactions between the U‐shaped binuclear CuI complex A that bears short metal–metal distances and the cyano‐capped monotopic π‐conjugated ligands 1 – 5 that carry gradually bulkier polyaromatic terminal fragments lead to the formation of π‐stacked supramolecular assemblies 6 – 10 , respectively, in yields of 50–80 %. These derivatives have been characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopic analysis and X‐ray diffraction studies. Their solid‐state structures show the selective formation of U‐shaped supramolecular assemblies in which two monotopic π‐conjugated systems present large ( 6 , 7 , and 9 ) or medium ( 8 and 10 ) intramolecular π overlap, thus revealing π–π interactions. These assemblies self‐organize into head‐to‐tail π‐stacked dimers that in turn self‐assemble to afford infinite columnar π stacks. The nature, extent, and complexity of the intermolecular contacts within the head‐to‐tail π‐stacked dimer depend on the nature of the terminal polyaromatic fragment carried by the cyano‐capped monotopic ligand, but it does not alter the result of the self‐assembling process. These results demonstrate that the dinuclear molecular clip A that bears short metal–metal distances allows selective supramolecular assembly processes driven by the formation of intra‐ and intermolecular short π–π interactions in the resulting self‐assembled structures; thus, demonstrating that their shape is not only dictated by the symmetry of the building blocks. This approach opens perspectives toward the formation of extended π‐stacked columns based on dissymmetrical and functional π‐conjugated systems.  相似文献

We report herein the implementation of a dynamic covalent chemistry approach to the generation of multivalent clusters for DNA recognition. We show that biomolecular clusters can be expressed in situ by a programmed self‐assembly process using chemoselective ligations. The cationic clusters are shown, by fluorescence displacement assay, gel electrophoresis and isothermal titration calorimetry, to effectively complex DNA through multivalent interactions. The reversibility of the ligation was exploited to demonstrate that template effects occur, whereby DNA imposes component selection in order to favor the most active DNA‐binding clusters. Furthermore, we show that a chemical effector can be used to trigger DNA release through component exchange reactions.  相似文献

Summary: A pair of macromolecular constitutional isomers having topologically distinctive, dicyclic constructions, that is, θ‐shaped and manacle‐shaped polymers, has been synthesized from a polymer self‐assembly, comprised of three‐armed star poly(tetrahydrofuran) [poly(THF)] having N‐phenylpyrrolidinium salt end groups carrying dicarboxylate counteranions ( 1S / 2d ). The presence of the two constitutional polymeric isomers was confirmed by means of a reversed‐phase liquid chromatography (RPC) technique. Moreover, size exclusion chromatography (SEC) showed that a major component possesses notably larger hydrodynamic volume than the others, and is assignable as a manacle‐shaped isomer while a minor component is assigned as a θ‐shaped isomer. The statistics of the covalent‐linking process of 1S / 2d were consistent with the other experimental results.

An “electrostatic self‐assembly and covalent fixation” process of a trifunctional star‐shaped precursor gives rise to θ‐shaped and manacle‐shaped polymers.  相似文献
