For the given data (wi,xi,yi), i=1,…,M, we consider the problem of existence of the best discrete approximation in lp norm (1≤p<) by reciprocals of real polynomials. For this problem, the existence of best approximations is not always guaranteed. In this paper, we give a condition on data which is necessary and sufficient for the existence of the best approximation in lp norm. This condition is theoretical in nature. We apply it to obtain several other existence theorems very useful in practice. Some illustrative examples are also included.  相似文献

It is shown, within constructive mathematics, that the unit ball B1(H) of the set of bounded operators on a Hilbert space H is weak-operator totally bounded. This result is then used to prove that the weak-operator continuity of the mapping TAT on B1(H) is equivalent to the existence of the adjoint of A.  相似文献

In this article, we prove the existence and uniqueness of a certain distribution function on the unit interval. This distribution appears in Brent's model of the analysis of the binary gcd algorithm. The existence and uniqueness of such a function was conjectured by Richard Brent in his original paper [R.P. Brent, Analysis of the binary Euclidean algorithm, in: J.F. Traub (Ed.), New Directions and Recent Results in Algorithms and Complexity, Academic Press, New York, 1976, pp. 321–355]. Donald Knuth also supposes its existence in [D.E. Knuth, The Art of Computer Programming, vol. 2, Seminumerical Algorithms, third ed., Addison-Wesley, Reading, MA, 1997] where developments of its properties lead to very good estimates in relation to the algorithm. We settle here the question of existence, giving a basis to these results, and study the relationship between this limiting function and the binary Euclidean operator B2, proving rigorously that its derivative is a fixed point of B2.  相似文献

Consider K ≥ 2 independent copies of the random walk on the symmetric group SN starting from the identity and generated by the products of either independent uniform transpositions or independent uniform neighbor transpositions. At any time $n\in \mathbb{N}$, let Gn be the subgroup of SN generated by the K positions of the chains. In the uniform transposition model, we prove that there is a cut‐off phenomenon at time N ln(N)/(2K) for the non‐existence of fixed point of Gn and for the transitivity of Gn, thus showing that these properties occur before the chains have reached equilibrium. In the uniform neighbor transposition model, a transition for the non‐existence of a fixed point of Gn appears at time of order $N^{1+\frac{2}{K}}$ (at least for K ≥ 3), but there is no cut‐off phenomenon. In the latter model, we recover a cut‐off phenomenon for the non‐existence of a fixed point at a time proportional to N by allowing the number K to be proportional to ln(N). Many algorithms for solving the problem of finding zeroes of a sum of two maximal monotone operators T1 and T2, have regularized subproblems of the kind 0T1(x)+T2(x)+∂D(x), where D is a convex function. We develop an unified analysis for existence of solutions of these subproblems, through the introduction of the concept of convex regularization, which includes several well-known cases in the literature. Finally, we establish conditions, either on D or on the operators, which assure solvability of the subproblems.  相似文献

We simplify a result by Mangasarian on the existence of solutions to the linear complementarity problem. The simplified condition gives a new geometric interpretation of the result. We study ring homeomorphisms and, on this basis, obtain a series of theorems on the existence of the so-called ring solutions for degenerate Beltrami equations. A general statement on the existence of solutions for the Beltrami equations that extends earlier results is formulated. In particular, we give new existence criteria for homeomorphic solutions f of the class W loc 1,1 with f −1W loc 1,2 in terms of tangential dilatations and functions of finite mean oscillation. We consider some p-Laplacian type equations with sum of nonlocal term and subcritical nonlinearities. We prove the existence of the ground states, which are positive. Because of including p=2, these results extend the results of Li, Ma and Zhang [Nonlinear Analysis: Real World Application 45(2019) 1-25]. When p=2, N=3, by a variant variational identity and a constraint set, we can prove the existence of a non-radially symmetric solution. Moreover, this solution u(x1, x2, x3) is radially symmetric with respect to (x1, x2) and odd with respect to x3.  相似文献

This paper studies the asymptotic behavior for the integrated density of states function for operators associated with the propagation of classical waves in a high-contrast, periodic, two-component medium. Consider a domain Ω+ contained in the hypercube [0, 2π) n . We define a function χτ which takes the value 1 in Ω+ and the value τ in [0, 2π) n \ Ω+. We extend this setup periodically to ? n and define the operator L τ = ??χτ ?. As τ goes to infinity, it is known that the spectrum of L τ exhibits a band-gap structure and that the spectral density accumulates at the upper endpoints of the bands. We establish the existence and some important properties of a rescaled integrated density of states function in the large coupling limit which describes the non-trivial asymptotic behavior of this spectral accumulation.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the mixed problem for the equation u tt  + A 1 uA 2(u t ) + g(u t ) = f(x, t) in unbounded domain, where A 1 is a linear elliptic operator of the fourth order and A 2 is a nonlinear elliptic operator of the second order. Under natural assumptions on the equation coefficients and f we proof existence of a solution. This result contains, as a special case, some of known before theorems of existence. Essentially, in difference up to previous results we prove theorems of existence without the additional assumption on behavior of solution at infinity.   相似文献

We study the existence and the structure of solutions to differential inclusions with constraints. We show that the set of all viable solutions to the Cauchy problem for a Carathéodory-type differential inclusion in a closed domain is an R -set provided some mild boundary conditions expressed in terms of functional constraints defining the domain are satisfied. Presented results generalize most of the existing ones. Some applications to the existence of periodic solutions as well as equilibria are given.  相似文献

Abstract. We study different notions of discrete maximal regularity for discrete-time abstract Cauchy problems in Banach spaces. First we look at l 2 -discrete maximal regularity and show that Hilbert spaces are the only Banach spaces, among spaces with an unconditional basis, in which the analyticity of the associated discrete-time semigroup is a sufficient condition to obtain this kind of regularity. We then turn to different notions of regularity, in a l 1 and in a l sense. We link the existence of particular semigroups such that the associated Cauchy problem has one of these maximal regularities to the geometry of the underlying Banach space (more precisely, to the existence of a complemented subspace isomorphic to c 0 or l 1 ). We study the isentropic compressible Navier–Stokes equations with radially symmetric data in an annular domain. We first prove the global existence and regularity results on the radially symmetric weak solutions with non‐negative bounded densities. Then we prove the global existence of radially symmetric strong solutions when the initial data ρ0, u 0 satisfy the compatibility condition for some radially symmetric g ∈ L2. Let T be a totally ordered set and let D(T) denotes the set of all cuts of T. We prove the existence of a discrete valuation domain Ov such that T is order isomorphic to two special subsets of Spec(Ov). We prove that if A is a ring (not necessarily commutative), whose prime spectrum is totally ordered and satisfies (K2), then there exists a totally ordered set U?Spec(A) such that the prime spectrum of A is order isomorphic to D(U). We also present equivalent conditions for a totally ordered set to be a Dedekind totally ordered set. At the end, we present an algebraic geometry point of view.  相似文献
