The structure vector field and structure Jacobi operator of real hypersurfaces in nonflat complex space forms

In this paper we determine the real hypersurfaces for which the structure Jacobi operator commutes over both the Ricci tensors and structure tensors (for a definition of the operator see Sect. 1). We prove that such hypersurfaces are homogneous real hypersurfaces of type (A) and are a special class of Hopf hypersurfaces.     

The Dirichlet heat kernel in inner uniform domains: Local results,compact domains and non-symmetric forms

This paper provides sharp Dirichlet heat kernel estimates in inner uniform domains, including bounded inner uniform domains, in the context of certain (possibly non-symmetric) bilinear forms resembling Dirichlet forms. For instance, the results apply to the Dirichlet heat kernel associated with a uniformly elliptic divergence form operator with symmetric second order part and bounded measurable real coefficients in inner uniform domains in Rⁿ${\mathbb{R}}^n$. The results are applicable to any convex domain, to the complement of any convex domain, and to more exotic examples such as the interior and exterior of the snowflake.     

Exponential sums over primes and the prime twin problem

The purpose of this paper is to obtain an effective estimate of the exponential sum $\sum_{n\le x}\Lambda(n)e\left(\left(\frac{a}{q}+\beta\right)n\right)$ (where e(??)=e ^{2?? i ??} , ??,?????, (a,q)=1 and ?? is the von Mangoldt function) in the range ${(\log x)}^{1/2+\varepsilon}\le q\le \frac{x}{{(\log\log\log x)}^{1+\varepsilon}}$ and $|\beta|<\frac{1}{q{(\log\log\log x)}^{1+\varepsilon}}$ . It improves Daboussi??s estimate [2, Theorem 1] in the range q??(log?x) ^D and x(log?x)^?D ??q, D>0 and is valid in a wider range for ??.     

Normal forms,inner products,and Maslov indices of general multimode squeezings

In this paper, we present a purely algebraic construction of the normal factorization of multimode squeezed states and calculate their inner products. This procedure allows one to orthonormalize bases generated by squeezed states. We calculate several correct representations of the normalizing constant for the normal factorization, discuss an analog of the Maslov index for squeezed states, and show that the Jordan decomposition is a useful mathematical tool for problems with degenerate Hamiltonians. As an application of this theory, we consider a nontrivial class of squeezing problems which are solvable in any dimension.     

The Kurosh problem,height theorem,nilpotency of the radical,and algebraicity identity

This paper is devoted to relations between the Kurosh problem and the Shirshov height theorem. The central point and main technical tool is the identity of algebraicity. The main result of this paper is the following. Let A be a finitely generated PI-algebra and Y be a finite subset of A. For any Noetherian associative and commutative ring {ie125-01}, let any factor of R ⊗ A such that all projections of elements from Y are algebraic over π(R) be a Noetherian R-module. Then A has bounded essential height over Y. If, furthermore, Y generates A as an algebra, then A has bounded height over Y in the Shirshov sense. This paper also contains a new proof of the Razmyslov-Kemer-Braun theorem on radical nilpotence of affine PI-algebras. This proof allows one to obtain some constructive estimates. The main goal of the paper is to develop a “virtual operator calculus.” Virtual operators (pasting, deleting, and transfer) depend not only on an element of the algebra but also on its representation. __________ Translated from Fundamentalnaya i Prikladnaya Matematika, Vol. 13, No. 2, pp. 3–29, 2007.     

Relatively prime polynomials and nonsingular Hankel matrices over finite fields

The probability for two monic polynomials of a positive degree n with coefficients in the finite field Fq to be relatively prime turns out to be identical with the probability for an n×n Hankel matrix over Fq to be nonsingular. Motivated by this, we give an explicit map from pairs of coprime polynomials to nonsingular Hankel matrices that explains this connection. A basic tool used here is the classical notion of Bezoutian of two polynomials. Moreover, we give simpler and direct proofs of the general formulae for the number of m-tuples of relatively prime polynomials over Fq of given degrees and for the number of n×n Hankel matrices over Fq of a given rank.     

Normal forms, stability and splitting of invariant manifolds I. Gevrey Hamiltonians

In this paper, we give a new construction of resonant normal forms with a small remainder for near-integrable Hamiltonians at a quasi-periodic frequency. The construction is based on the special case of a periodic frequency, a Diophantine result concerning the approximation of a vector by independent periodic vectors and a technique of composition of periodic averaging. It enables us to deal with non-analytic Hamiltonians, and in this first part we will focus on Gevrey Hamiltonians and derive normal forms with an exponentially small remainder. This extends a result which was known for analytic Hamiltonians, and only in the periodic case for Gevrey Hamiltonians. As applications, we obtain an exponentially large upper bound on the stability time for the evolution of the action variables and an exponentially small upper bound on the splitting of invariant manifolds for hyperbolic tori, generalizing corresponding results for analytic Hamiltonians.     

Affine and projective lines over one-dimensional semilocal domains

We characterize those partially ordered sets that can occur as the spectra of polynomial rings over one-dimensional semilocal (Noetherian) domains. We also determine the posets that can occur as projective lines over one-dimensional semilocal domains.

     

Torsion-free covers and pure-injective envelopes over valuation domains

We describe the torsion-free covers of cyclic modules, the pure-injective envelopes of ideals, the maximal immediate extensions of localizations and the injective envelopes of cyclics over valuation domains. We study the relations among these modules. This paper generalizes some results of Banaschewski, Cheatham, Enochs and Nishi. Supported by Ministero della Pubblica Istruzione and GNSAGA (CNR).     

Normal forms and versal deformations of linear Hamiltonian systems

Equivalence classes of time independent, linear, real Hamiltonian systems can be identified, up to canonical transformations, with the orbits of the adjoint action of the real symplectic group on its Lie algebra. A new set of representatives, also called normal forms, for these orbits is given. Versal deformations of systems in normal form are constructed. Applications of versal deformations to the study of bifurcations of linear systems with small codimension are indicated.
