In this study, biodegradable shape‐memory polymers—polylactide‐co‐poly(glycolide‐co‐caprolactone) multiblock (PLAGC) copolymers—were synthesized by the coupling reaction of both macrodiols of polylactide (PLLA‐diol) and poly(glycolide‐co‐caprolactone) (PGC‐diol) in the presence of 1,6‐hexanediisocyanate as coupling agent. The copolymers formed were found to be thermoplastic and easily soluble in common solvents. The compositions of the copolymers were determined by 1H‐NMR and the influences of segment lengths and contents of both macrodiols on the properties of the PLAGC copolymers were investigated. It was found that the copolymers had adjustable mechanical properties which depended on contents and segment lengths of both macrodiols. The copolymers showed such good shape‐memory properties that the strain fixity rate (Rf) and the strain recovery rate (Rr) exceed 90%. By means of adjusting the compositions of the copolymers, PLAGC copolymers with transition temperatures around 45°C could be obtained. The degradation rate determination showed that the PLAGC copolymers have fast degradation rates, the mechanical strengths of the PLAGC copolymers would be completely lost within 1–2 months depending on molecular weights and contents of the both segments of PLLA and PGC. Per‐2,3‐acetyl‐β‐cyclodextrin with seven primary hydroxyl groups was synthesized by selective modification and used as multifunctional initiator for the ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone (CL). Well‐defined β‐cyclodextrin‐centered seven‐arm star poly(ε‐caprolactone)s (CDSPCLs) with narrow molecular weight distributions (≤1.15) have been successfully prepared in the presence of Sn(Oct)2 at 120 °C. The molecular weight of CDSPCLs was characterized by end group 1H NMR analyses and size‐exclusion chromatography (SEC), which could be well controlled by the molar ratio of the monomer to the initiator. Furthermore, amphiphilic seven‐arm star poly(ε‐caprolactone‐b‐ethylene glycol)s (CDSPCL‐b‐PEGs) were synthesized by the coupling reaction of CDSPCLs with carboxyl‐terminated mPEGs. 1H NMR and SEC analyses confirmed the expected star block structures. Differential scanning calorimetry analyses suggested that the melting temperature (Tm), the crystallization temperature (Tc), and the crystallinity degree (Xc) of CDSPCLs all increased with the increasing of the molecular weight, and were lower than that of the linear poly(ε‐caprolactone). As for CDSPCL‐b‐PEGs, the Tc and Tm of the PCL blocks were significantly influenced by the PEG segments in the copolymers. Moreover, these amphiphilic star block copolymers could self‐assemble into spherical micelles with the particle size ranging from 10 to 40 nm. Their micellization behaviors were characterized by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The quasi‐living cationic copolymerization of 3,3‐bis(chloromethyl)oxetane (BCMO) and ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL), using boron trifluoride etherate as catalyst and 1,4‐butanediol as coinitiator, was investigated in methylene chloride at 0°C. The resulting hydroxyl‐ended copolymers exhibit a narrow molecular weight polydispersity and a functionality of about 2. The reactivity ratios of BCMO (0.26) and ε‐CL (0.47), and the Tg of the copolymers, indicate their statistical character. The synthesis of poly(3,3‐bis(azidomethyl)oxetane‐co‐ε‐caprolactone) from poly(BCMO‐co‐ε‐CL) via the substitution of the chlorine atoms by azide groups, using sodium azide in DMSO at 110°C, occurs without any degradation, but the copolymers decompose at about 240°C. All polymers were characterized by vapor pressure osmometry or steric exclusion chromatography, 1H‐NMR and FTIR spectroscopies, and DSC. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave irradiation was applied to synthesize poly(ε‐caprolactam‐co‐ε‐caprolactone) directly from the anionic catalyzed ring opening of two cyclic monomers, ε‐caprolactam and ε‐caprolactone using a variable frequency microwave furnace, programmed to a set temperature and controlled by a pulsed power on–off system. Dielectric properties of ε‐caprolactam, ε‐caprolactone, and their mixture were measured in the microwave range from 0.4 to 3 GHz, showing that both ε‐caprolactam and ε‐caprolactone exhibited effective absorption of microwave energy to induce a fast chemical reaction. The microwave induced anionic copolymerization of ε‐caprolactam and ε‐caprolactone generated copoly(amide‐ester)s in yields as high as 70%. Conventional thermal and microwave copolymerization studies were also conducted for comparison with the microwave results. These studies demonstrated that an effective and efficient microwave method to copolymerize ε‐caprolactam with ε‐caprolactone in higher yield, higher amide content, and higher Tg 's, relative to the thermal process, has been developed. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Biodegradable polylactide (PLA) and its copolymers with shape memory properties have attracted great interests because of their important application prospects in biomedical field. In this study, random poly(L‐lactide‐co‐trimethylene carbonate‐co‐ε‐caprolactone) (LTCL) terpolymers with different molar ratio were synthesized and characterized. Monomer ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) was used in this study instead of glycolide in preliminary study of LTG terpolymers to investigate the transition temperature and the shape memory performance. Characterization on crystallization, mechanical properties, shape fixing, and recovery ratios of the terpolymers was conducted to investigate the correlation between crystallization and shape memory performance of LTCL terpolymers. The results are consistent with the formation of crystallized LLA segments, which could act as crosslinks, strengthened the stationary phase within the polymer matrix, and significantly improved the shape memory performance of LTCL terpolymers. For example, LTCL801010 is a crystalline polymer with high shape fixity and shape recovery ratio; its shape recovery temperature is 39°C. LTCL terpolymers with high CL content do not show shape memory performance for the rubbery at room temperature. Based on this study, PLA materials with shape memory property can be designed through the selection of monomers or the adjustment of comonomer ratio. These polymers with recovery temperature close to 37°C are expected to be used in human body such as scaffolds in tissue engineering.  相似文献

The simultaneous ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) and 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) polymerization via reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) chemistry and the possible access to graft copolymers with degradable and nondegradable segments is investigated. HEMA and ε‐CL are reacted in the presence of cyanoisopropyl dithiobenzoate (CPDB) and tin(II) 2‐ethylhexanoate (Sn(Oct)2) under typical ROP conditions (T > 100 °C) using toluene as the solvent in order to lead to the graft copolymer PHEMA‐g‐PCL. Graft copolymer formation is evidenced by a combination of size‐exclusion chromatography (SEC) and NMR analyses as well as confirmed by the hydrolysis of the PCL segments of the copolymer. With targeted copolymers containing at least 10% weight of PHEMA and relatively small PHEMA backbones (ca. 5,000–10,000 g mol?1) the copolymer grafting density is higher than 90%. The ratio of free HEMA‐PCL homopolymer produced during the “one‐step” process was found to depend on the HEMA concentration, as well as the half‐life time of the radical initiator used. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of di‐ and triblock copolymers [poly(L ‐lactide‐b‐ε‐caprolactone), poly(D,L ‐lactide‐b‐ε‐caprolactone), poly(ε‐caprolactone‐b‐L ‐lactide), and poly(ε‐caprolactone‐b‐L ‐lactide‐b‐ε‐caprolactone)] have been synthesized successfully by sequential ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) and lactide (LA) either by initiating PCL block growth with living PLA chain end or vice versa using titanium complexes supported by aminodiol ligands as initiators. Poly(trimethylene carbonate‐b‐ε‐caprolactone) was also prepared. A series of random copolymers with different comonomer composition were also synthesized in solution and bulk of ε‐CL and D,L ‐lactide. The chemical composition and microstructure of the copolymers suggest a random distribution with short average sequence length of both the LA and ε‐CL. Transesterification reactions played a key role in the redistribution of monomer sequence and the chain microstructures. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis of the copolymer also evidenced the random structure of the copolymer with a unique Tg. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, three kinds of L ‐lactide‐based copolymers, poly(lactide‐co‐glycolide) (PLGA), poly(lactide‐co‐p‐dioxanone) (PLDON) and poly(lactide‐co‐caprolactone) (PLC), were synthesized by the copolymerization of L ‐lactide (L) with glycolide (G), or p‐dioxanone (DON) or ε‐caprolactone (CL), respectively. The copolymers were easily soluble in common organic solvents. The compositions of the copolymers were determined by 1H‐NMR. Thermal/mechanical and shape‐memory properties of the copolymers with different comonomers were compared. Moreover, the effect of the chain flexibility of the comonomers on thermal/mechanical and shape‐memory properties of the copolymers were investigated. The copolymers with appropriate lactyl content showed good shape‐memory properties where both the shape fixity rate (Rf)and the shape recovery rate (Rr) could exceed 95%. It was found that the comonomers with different flexible molecular chain have different effects on their thermal/mechanical and shape‐memory properties. Among them, PLGA has the highest mechanical strength and recovery rate while PLC copolymer has high recovery rate when the lactyl content exceeded 85% and the lowest transition temperature (Ttrans). This article reports the synthesis and the properties of novel thermoplastic elastomers of A‐B‐A type triblock copolymer structure, where the hard segment A is poly(l ‐lactide) (PLLA) and the soft segment B is poly(ε‐caprolactone‐stat‐d ,l ‐lactide) (P(CL‐stat‐DLLA)). The P(CL‐stat‐DLLA) block with DLLA content of 30 mol % was applied because of its amorphous nature and low glass transition temperature (Tg = approximately ?40 °C). Successive polymerization of l ‐lactide afforded PLLA‐block‐P(CL‐stat‐DLLA)‐block‐PLLAs, which exhibited melting temperature (Tm = approximately 150 °C) for the crystalline PLLA segments and still low Tg (approximately ?30 °C) of the soft segments. The triblock copolymers showed very high elongation at break up to approximately 2800% and elastic properties. The corresponding d ‐triblock copolymers, PDLA‐block‐P(CL‐stat‐DLLA)‐block‐PDLAs (PDLA = poly(d ‐lactide)) were also prepared with the same procedure using d ‐lactide in place of l ‐lactide. When the PLLA‐block‐P(CL‐stat‐DLLA)‐block‐PLLA was blended with PDLA‐block‐P(CL‐stat‐DLLA)‐block‐PDLA, stereocomplex crystals were formed to enhance their Tm as well as tensile properties. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL), 4‐methyl‐ε‐caprolactone (4‐MeCL), and 6‐methyl‐ε‐caprolactone (6‐MeCL) with a single‐site chiral initiator, R,R′‐(salen) aluminum isopropoxide (R,R′‐[1]), was investigated. The kinetic data for the ROP of the three monomers at 90° in toluene corresponded to first‐order reactions in the monomer and propagation rate constants of kε‐CL > k4‐MeCL ? k6‐MeCL. A notable stereoselectivity with a preference for the R‐enantiomer was observed in the ROP of 6‐MeCL with R,R′‐[1], whereas for 4‐MeCL, no stereoselectivity was found. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We describe the synthesis, characterization, and select properties of a novel polyurethane (PU) prepared using a new polyisobutylene diol, HO‐CH2CH2‐S‐PIB‐S‐CH2CH2‐OH, soft segment and conventional hard segments. The diol is synthesized by terminal functionalization of ally‐telechelic PIB followed by low‐cost thiol‐ene click chemistry. Properties of ‐S‐ containing PU (PIBS‐PU) containing 72.5% PIB were investigated and compared to similar PUs made with HO‐PIB‐OH (PIBO‐PU). Hydrolytic resistance was studied by contact with phosphate‐buffered saline, oxidative resistance by immersing in concentrated HNO3, and metal ion oxidation resistance by exposure to CoCl2/H2O2. Hydrolytic and oxidative resistances of PIBS‐PU and PIBO‐PU are similar and superior to a commercial PDMS‐based PU, Elast‐Eon? E2A. According to 1H NMR spectroscopy the ‐S‐ in PIBS‐PUs remained unchanged upon treatment with HNO3, however, oxidized mainly to ‐SO2‐ by CoCl2/H2O2. Static mechanical properties of PIBS‐PU and PIBO‐PU are similar, except creep resistance of PIBS‐PU is surprisingly superior. The thermal stability of PIBS‐PUs is ~15 °C higher than that of PIBO‐PU. FTIR spectroscopy indicates H bonded S atoms (N‐H…S) between soft and hard segments, which noticeably affect properties. DSC and XRD studies suggest random low‐periodicity crystals dispersed within a soft matrix. Energy dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy–scanning electron microscopy indicates homogeneous distribution of S atoms on PIBS‐PU surfaces. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. A series of biodegradable, thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers poly(?‐caprolactone‐co‐lactide(polyurethane [PCLA–PU] were synthesized from a random copolymer of L ‐lactide (LA) and ?‐caprolactone (CL), hexamethylene diisocyanate, and 1,4‐butanediol. The effects of the LA/CL monomer ratio and hard‐segment content on the thermal and mechanical properties of PCLA–PUs were investigated. Gel permeation chromatography, IR, 13C NMR, and X‐ray diffraction were used to confirm the formation and structure of PCLA–PUs. Through differential scanning calorimetry, tensile testing, and tensile‐recovery testing, their thermal and mechanical properties were characterized. Their glass‐transition temperatures were below ?8 °C, and their soft domains became amorphous as the LA content increased. They displayed excellent mechanical properties, such as a tensile strength as high as 38 MPa, a tensile modulus as low as 10 MPa, and an elongation at break of 1300%. Therefore, they could find applications in biomedical fields, such as soft‐tissue engineering and artificial skin. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ABSTRACT

A set of segmented polyurethanes (PU) differing in the hard-segment structure was saturated with solvents and after the equilibrium saturation was reached, put to temperature-dependent SAXS investigations. The time-resolved mode of SAXS measurements with a linear increase of temperature from ?70°C to +70°C, i.e., within the temperature range between Tg of soft and hard segments, was applied. The order-order transition leading to a greater degree of order was found at higher temperatures for almost all systems investigated. Some of the PUs exhibit two kinds of microphase separated domains. The results obtained are discussed with respect to the mean-field theory of copolymers and Koberstein and Stein model for hard microdomain structure in PUs, and correlated with temperature dependence of membrane permeability in pervaporation process.  相似文献

The poly(3‐hydroxbutyrate‐co‐3‐hydroxyvalerate)/poly(ε‐caprolactone) block copolymers (PHCLs) with three different weight ratios of PCL blocks (38%, named PHCL‐38; 53%, named PHCL‐53; and 60%, named PHCL‐60) were synthesized by using PHBV with two hydroxyl end groups to initiate ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone. During DSC cooling process, melt crystallization of PHCL‐53 at relatively high cooling rates (9, 12, and 15 °C min?1) and PHCL‐60 at all the selected cooling rates corresponded to PCL blocks so that PHCL‐53 and PHCL‐60 were used to study the nonisothermal crystallization behaviors of PCL blocks. The kinetics of PCL blocks in PHCL‐53 and PHCL‐60 under nonisothermal crystallization conditions were analyzed by Mo equation. Mo equation was successful in describing the nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of PCL blocks in PHCLs. Crystallization activation energy were estimated using Kissinger's method. The results of kinetic parameters showed that both blocks crystallized more difficultly than corresponding homopolymers. With the increase of PCL content, the crystallization rate of PCL block increased gradually. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys, 2010  相似文献

A series of copolylactones was synthesized by ring‐opening copolymerization of glycolide, L ‐lactide and ?‐caprolactone, using stannous octoate as catalyst. The in vitro degradation behaviors of them were studied and data demonstrated different degradation rates which mainly depended on the compositions. Investigation of the 5‐fluorouracil (5‐Fu) release from these copolylactones revealed that the composition, degradation rate and the morphology of the polymeric matrix played an important role on the drug release kinetics. A sustained 5‐Fu release without initial time lag was obtained from random poly(lactide‐co‐glycolide‐co‐caprolactone) (r‐PGLC) drug carrier, and it differed from the cases of polylactide (PLA) or random poly(lactide‐co‐glycolide) (PLGA), which usually showed an initial time lag or biphasic drug release behavior. It was due to the low glass transition temperature (T g) of the r‐PGLC and the drug would diffuse faster in rubbery state under the experimental temperature. Furthermore, a significant change in the drug release behavior of r‐PGLC was observed when the temperatures were changed around the T g of the drug carrier, which implied that the drug release behavior could be regulated by adjusting the morphology of the drug carrier. Biodegradable, amphiphilic, diblock poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(ethylene glycol) (PCL‐b‐PEG), triblock poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐block‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL‐b‐PEG‐b‐PCL), and star shaped copolymers were synthesized by ring opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether or poly(ethylene glycol) or star poly(ethylene glycol) and potassium hexamethyldisilazide as a catalyst. Polymerizations were carried out in toluene at room temperature to yield monomodal polymers of controlled molecular weight. The chemical structure of the copolymers was investigated by 1H and 13C NMR. The formation of block copolymers was confirmed by 13C NMR and DSC investigations. The effects of copolymer composition and molecular structure on the physical properties were investigated by GPC and DSC. For the same PCL chain length, the materials obtained in the case of linear copolymers are viscous whereas in the case of star copolymer solid materials are obtained with low Tg and Tm temperatures. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. After (R)‐12‐hydroxystearic acid (HSA) was mixed at 100 °C with the castor oil‐modified poly(ε‐caprolactone) (CO‐PCL) prepared by the ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone in the presence of castor oil, the mixture was gradually cooled to room temperature to give a solidified CO‐PCL/HSA composite. The CO‐PCL/HSA sample showed an exothermic peak at around 67–71 °C which was lower than the melting point of HSA (76.8 °C), indicating the formation of mesogenic HSA aggregates. The rheological measurement of the CO‐PCL/HSA revealed the formation of HSA organogel at around 67–55 °C during the cooling process from the melt. Furthermore, the polarized and normal optical microscopic analyses of CO‐PCL/HSA on the cooling stage revealed that anisotropic fibrous materials are formed at around 60 °C and then the fibrous network propagated over the matrix polymer. The flexural modulus and storage modulus of the CO‐PCL/HSA composite increased with increasing HSA content. The CO‐PCL/HSA composite annealed at 60 °C for 2 h on the cooling process had a higher flexural and storage modulus than the sample without annealing. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In order to study the self‐assembly of block copolymer grafted from graphene oxide (GO) by the fluorescence of GO, poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL)‐block‐poly(dimethyl aminoethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA) is grafted from its surface using consecutive ring opening (ROP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). GO‐g‐(PCL13‐b‐PDMAEMA117) (GPCLD) at pH 9.2 exhibits cloud point (Tc) at 32 °C. At pH 9.2 HRTEM images indicate schizophrenic morphology from vesicle at 26 °C to annular ring at 30 °C followed by giant size aggregation at 38 °C. But the reference block copolymer (PCL14‐b‐PDMAEMA126, PCLD), synthesized using benzyl alcohol as ROP initiator, exhibits only core–shell morphology whose size increases with rising temperature at pH 9.2. GPCLD solution exhibits good photoluminescence (PL) property arising from GO at pH 9.2 and PL‐intensity increases abruptly during phase transition. Both Tc and size of GPCLD assembly can be reversibly tuned by CO2 and N2 gas purging. 1H NMR spectra exhibit a gradual shift of resonance peaks of the protons on CO2 bubbling. Thus at pH 9.2 and at 38 °C the GPCLD acts as a good CO2 sensor. Additionally, the GPCLD vesicle can load hydrophobic guest molecules which can be released by triggering with CO2. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Amphiphilic A3B mikto‐arm copolymers have been synthesized using a t‐butyl‐diphenyl silyl‐based methylglucoside derivative. The latter has been first used as initiator for the polymerization of ε‐caprolactone leading to three‐arm star‐shaped structures followed by several postpolymerization steps to obtain star‐shaped poly(ε‐caprolactone) macroinitiator. Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of diisopropylidene galactose methacrylate in THF at 60 °C using CuBr ligated with 1,1,4,7,10,10‐hexamethyltriethylenetetramine (HMTETA) as catalytic complex allowed the formation of A3B mikto‐arm copolymers with different compositions and molecular weights. Selective deprotection of sugar protecting groups finally generated amphiphilic mikto‐arm copolymers. The molecular characterization of those copolymers was performed by 1H NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) analysis. The self‐assembly of the copolymers into micellar aggregates and the related critical micellization concentration (CMC) in aqueous media were determined by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and UV‐visible spectroscopy, respectively. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Three aluminium complexes supported by a tetradentate pyrrolide ligand H2L [H2L = N,N′‐(2,2‐dimethylpropane‐1,3‐diyl)bis(1‐(1H‐pyrrol‐2‐yl)methanimine)], namely, Al(L)Me ( 1 ), Al(L)Cl ( 2 ), and Al(L)(OiPr) ( 3 ), were synthesized. The structures of 1 and 2 were established by X‐ray single crystal diffraction analysis, and the structure of 3 was characterized by NMR spectroscopy and element analysis. All complexes, containing different chemical bond forms (Al–C, Al–Cl, and Al–O), are good initiators for the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone. The obtained polymers have high molecular weights (MWs) and relatively narrow molecular weight distributions (PDIs). Complexes 1 and 3 show dramatically high activities for the ROP of ε‐caprolactone. For complex 1 , when the monomer/initiator (M/I) ratio is 6400:1, a 40 % yield of the product could be obtained at 100 °C. The activity of 3 is higher than that of 1 , and 39 % yield of the polymers could be afforded at 70 °C, as the M/I value reaches 12800:1. The good activities of these complexes reveal their potential applications in industry.  相似文献
