The rate equations generally used for dye lasers necessitate a number of assumptions. The assumptions are tested in the case of pulsed dye oscillator. It is shown that the assumptions break down during the laser onset. The main result is this: the spikes computed for the excited state population and for laser photon flux cannot be given a physical meaning and cannot be used to explain the properties of pulsed dye lasers.  相似文献

A time-dependent, two-dimensional (in space) rate equation model of a transversely-pumped pulsed dye laser oscillator, which incorporates transverse pump intensity variation in the presence of intracavity dye laser radiation, is proposed to understand and predict its temporal behaviour. The model yields output pulses which agree well with experimental results using rhodamine 6G and kiton red dyes. The shape, amplitude and temporal position of the simulated pulse within the pump pulse vary dramatically across the tuning range of each dye depending on the relative gain and loss values.  相似文献

A Fizeau wavelength meter was used to compensate for fluctuations in the longitudinal mode structure and wavelength of a pulsed dye laser. The average laser linewidth was effectively narrowed by selection of laser pulses with a single longitudinal mode. These techniques were recently employed to measure some atomic transition wavelengths in pHe+ to fractional precisions greater than 1 part in 10(7). The wavelengths were absolutely calibrated against iodine or tellurium lines by absorption spectroscopy or against neon or argon lines by optogalvanic spectroscopy.  相似文献

A new laser dye for pulsed and cw operation has been synthesized which can be tuned from 362 nm up to 412 nm. For pulsed excitation with a XeCl excimer laser an energy conversion of 18.5% has been measured at the tuning maximum of the dye; this is the highest efficiency for any known dye in the UV. For cw operation a low laser threshold and a goof efficiency have been observed. The range of tuned cw dye lasers is extended by 30 nm to shorter wavelengths. The dye shows high photochemical stability even at high pump laser power.  相似文献

It is shown analytically that for a pulsed dye laser amplifier, transversely pumped by a short duration pulsed laser, there exists an optimum gain length of the amplifier at dye laser wavelengths at which ground state absorption does not vanish. Thus, if the available pump power is distributed over this gain length, the extraction efficiency and the saturated gain of the amplifier reaches a maximum. The dependence of the extraction efficiency and gain on the amplifier length is strongly affected by the nonlinear absorption of the dye laser arising from excited state absorption, subsequent to ground state absorption.  相似文献

Recently, a tandem organic light-emitting diode structure, excited electrically in the pulsed domain and confined within a double interferometric configuration, was observed to emit a low-divergence beam (approximately 1.1 times the diffraction limit) with a near-Gaussian spatial distribution. The emission originates from the laser dye Coumarin 545 T used as dopant. It has since been determined that the visibility of the interferograms, from the spatially coherent emission, is V approximately 0.90. This result is compared with the visibility obtained from a known narrow linewidth laser source (V approximately 0.95) and with various published values from the relevant literature. The significance of this result is discussed in addition to an interferometric estimate of the emission linewidth that yields Delta lambda approximately 11 nm. The present interferometric analysis indicates that the spectral component of the spatially coherent radiation is comparable with the spectral characteristics of well-known broadband dye lasers.  相似文献

Experiments have been carried out on the injection-locking of a pulsed dye laser to an argon-laser-pumped CW dye laser of 50 MHz linewidth without longitudinal mode matching. With the inclusion of a Fabry-Perot etalon within the ring laser arrangement of the pulsed laser, the initiation of injection locking and saturation occur at low injection powers.  相似文献

A flash lamp pumped dye laser with a ring cavity is injected with the light beam coming from a stabilized singlemode c.w. dye laser. The light emitted by the pulsed laser is analysed either by a Fabry Perot etalon, or by producing a Doppler-free two-photon transition. The bandwidth of the pulsed laser is identical to the one of the c.w. laser; but the pulsed light is shifted to higher frequency by an amount of a few MHz.  相似文献

A simple model for the operation of a pulsed dye laser, transversely pumped by a nitrogen laser, is presented. We consider the combined effect of the transmission of the laser output coupler, its distance from the dye cell and the saturated gain characteristics of the dye laser medium, on the operation of the laser. A waveguide dye laser with an inner diameter of 30 μm and a length of 1.0 nm has been excited with a pulsed GaAlAs diode laser. The infrared-absorbing dye 5,5′-dichloro-11-diphenylamino-3,3′-diethyl-10,12-ethylenethiatri- carbocyanine perchlorate was used in tetramethylene sulfoxide solution. By changing dye concentration, laser wavelengths from 950 to 1005 nm were obtained.  相似文献

惯性约束聚变(ICF)系统中高能瞬态脉冲激光由于脉冲时间短、能量高、波前畸变大,通常的检测方法难于检测脉冲激光波前。提出了一种基于空间相位调制技术可用于近红外瞬态波前高精度检测的环形径向剪切干涉仪。该系统可以以30~150 mm的圆瞳和方瞳口径、对波长为1064 nm的近红外纳秒级脉宽的脉冲激光波前实现共路、无参考面的瞬态、高精度的检测。系统的波前重构理论经过计算机仿真验证,精度达1/1000λ以上;检测结果与ZYGO数字波面干涉仪进行了比对,峰谷值、均方根值均优于1/15λ,并具有很好的可重复性。该系统目前已用于惯性约束聚变系统的脉冲检测,并且该技术适用于各种可见光和红外波段激光。  相似文献

The dynamic holography in new composite materials based on a novel class of metal-alkanoate ionic liquid crystals (ILCs) is studied experimentally and theoretically. The composites are formed as a dielectric dye film covered by lyotropic metal-alkanoate ILC and ionic smectic glasses with doped dye molecules. The dynamic gratings are created by nanosecond pulses of double frequency Nd:YAP laser, the recording demonstrates fast erasure time of residual thermal gratings. The nonlinear optical properties are determined by the resonance nonlinearity in photosensitive centres of ILC. Note, that permanent relief gratings will be formed on a dielectric dye film only as well as in composite cells either with nematic LC or with polymers under action of pulsed laser radiation. Lyotropic ILC layer applied over the dye film provides the dynamic regime of grating recording in composite cells. We found a secondary thermal grating is much smaller, the conductive ILC matrix provides effective heat dissipation and erasure of this thermal grating. A theory of Raman-Nath self-diffraction holography on thin films followed from the wave equation and the nonlinear mechanism of absorption saturation is developed to explain experimental results.  相似文献

It is established that DNA films sensitized by organic dyes (for example, acridine orange), subjected to pulsed excitation in the dye absorption band, allow for several types of time-dependent holographic recording. Dynamic holographic gratings on the dye triplet states and thermal and relief-phase holographic gratings of nondestructive type have been recorded. The efficiency and lifetime of these gratings depend strongly on the concentration of dye, the type of its bonding with the biopolymer, and the recording-pulse energy. High-efficiency relief holographic gratings formed due to the structural transformations occurring in the biopolymer matrix when the energy of recording laser pulses dissipates into heat spontaneously and completely (or almost completely) disappear with time at room temperature. Some data on the distribution of acridine orange molecules over binding sites in the DNA matrix are obtained.  相似文献

A KrF laser (248 nm) is used to volume preionization trigger a 40-100-kV, > 10-kA, 100-ns spark gap switch. This method of triggering creates reproducible and axisymmetric spark columns having low temporal and spatial jitter. A short pulse (< 5 ns) tunable dye laser and a Mach-Zehnder interferometer are used to obtain spatial and temporal measurements of the spark column. The spatial resolution of the interferograms is better than 5 ?m. The fringe shifts of the interferograms are used to calculate the electron and heavy particle density distributions within the spark column as a function of time during the spark. Results are presented for sparks in 5-percent SF6/ 20-percent N2/75-percent He and 1-percent Xe/99-percent H2 gas mixtures. Dc and pulsed self-breakdown voltages are also measured in order to provide a reference for the laser-triggered results. Data on laser-triggering reliability and spark breakdown delay time are also presented.  相似文献

We discuss two ways to use femtosecond pulsed lasers as a new interferometric light source for enhanced precision surface-profile metrology. First, a train of ultrafast laser pulses yields repeated low temporal coherence, which allows unequal-path scanning interferometry, which is not feasible with white light, to be performed. Second, the high spatial coherence of femtosecond pulsed lasers enables large-sized optics to be tested in nonsymmetric configurations with relatively small-sized reference surfaces. These two advantages are verified experimentally with Fizeau and Twyman-Green type scanning interferometers.  相似文献

Abstract

Bleaching of F centers in gamma irradiated NaCl crystals at room temperature and elevated temperatures using laser pulses from pulsed laser systems is studied in this paper. The rate of decay of F centers is monitored and the decay constants are evaluated. A comparison on the decay kinetics is made for CW and pulsed bleaching with a He-Cd laser. F center to C center conversions using a thermo-optic scheme are carried out with nanosecond dye laser pulses in gamma irradiated NaCl crystals.  相似文献
