The minus partial order was defined by Hartwig [6], weakening the conditions of the star partial order of Drazin [5]. Several new properties of the minus partial order are established. The minus partial order is used to redefine the shorted matrix [15, 17] and to define the infimum AB and the supremum AB of a pair A, B of matrices of the same order. The definition of the shorted matrix given here is similar to the Krein-Anderson-Trapp definition of the shorted positive operator.  相似文献

In this work the group inverse of a matrix is used to define the #-order on square matrices of index 1. The #-order is similar to the 1-order of Drazin [2] and the minus order of Hartwig [6, 10] and Nambooripad [17]. The #-order and the 1-order are compared and contrasted. In this paper we study J-EP matrices, as a generalization of EP-matrices in indefinite inner product spaces, with respect to indefinite matrix product. We give some properties concerning EP and J-EP matrices and find connection between them. Also, we present some results for reverse order law for Moore-Penrose inverse in indefinite setting. Finally, we deal with the star partial ordering and improve some results given in the “EP matrices in indefinite inner product spaces” (2012), by relaxing some conditions.  相似文献

In this paper we describe the asymptotic behaviour of the spectral norm of the product of two finite Toeplitz matrices as the matrix dimension goes to infinity. These Toeplitz matrices are generated by functions with Fisher–Hartwig singularities of negative order. If these functions are positives the product of the two matrices has positive eigenvalues and it is known that the spectral norm is also the largest eigenvalue of this product.  相似文献

The paper is devoted to the eigenvectors of Hessenberg Toeplitz matrices whose symbol has a power singularity. We describe the structure of the eigenvectors and prove an asymptotic formula which can be used to compute individual eigenvectors effectively. The symbols of our matrices are special Fisher–Hartwig symbols, and the theorem of this paper confirms and makes more precise a conjecture by Dai, Geary, and Kadanoff of 2009 in a particular case.  相似文献

This paper gives a group of expansion formulas for the inertias of Hermitian matrix polynomials AA2, IA2 and AA3 through some congruence transformations for block matrices, where A is a Hermitian matrix. Then, the paper derives various expansion formulas for the ranks and inertias of some matrix pencils generated from two or three orthogonal projectors and Hermitian unitary matrices. As applications, the paper establishes necessary and sufficient conditions for many matrix equalities to hold, as well as many inequalities in the Löwner partial ordering to hold.  相似文献

The main task of the paper is to demonstrate that Corollary 6 in [R.E. Hartwig, K. Spindelböck, Matrices for which A and A commute, Linear and Multilinear Algebra 14 (1984) 241-256] provides a powerful tool to investigate square matrices with complex entries. This aim is achieved, on the one hand, by obtaining several original results involving square matrices, and, on the other hand, by reestablishing some of the facts already known in the literature, often in extended and/or generalized forms. This paper investigates some properties of Euclidean distance matrices (EDMs) with focus on their ordering structure. The ordering treated here is the group majorization ordering induced by the group of permutation matrices. By using this notion, we establish two monotonicity results for EDMs: (i) The radius of a spherical Euclidean distance matrix (spherical EDM) is increasing with respect to the group majorization ordering. (ii) The larger an EDM is in terms of the group majorization ordering, the more spread out its eigenvalues are. Minimal elements with respect to this ordering are also described.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the ordering on a semiring of monotone doubly stochastic transition matrices in Shorrocks’ sense. We identify a class of an equilibrium index of mobility that induces the full ordering in a semiring, while this ordering is compatible with Dardanoni’s partial ordering on a set of monotone primitive irreducible doubly stochastic matrices.  相似文献

A majorization ordering is defined on matrices with the same row and column sums. This ordering is used as an ordering of dependence for contingency tables. Results are derived for maximal and minimal matrices with respect to the majorization ordering. This theory can be used to maximize and minimize Schur concave functions defined over matrices, when there are row and column sum constraints; in this paper, it is applied to the algorithm of Mehta and Patel (1983) for finding the P-value of Fisher's exact test.  相似文献

The diamond partial order has been first introduced for matrices, and then discussed also in the general context of *-regular rings. We extend this notion to Rickart rings, and state various properties of the diamond order living on the so-called strong Rickart rings.
