In this paper, three new circulant operator matrices, scaled circulant operator matrices, diag-circulant operator matrices and retrocirculant operator matrices, are given respectively. Several norm equalities and inequalities for these operator matrices are proved. We show the special cases for norm equalities and inequalities, such as the usual operator norm and the Schatten p-norm. Pinching type inequality is also given for weakly unitarily invariant norms. These results are closely related to the nice structure of these special operator matrices. Furthermore, some special cases and specific examples are also considered.  相似文献

Let r 1, …, r m be positive real numbers and A 1, …, A m be n × n matrices with complex entries. In this article, we present a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a unitarily invariant norm ‖·‖, such that ‖A i ‖ = r i , for i = 1, …, m. Then we identify the greatest unitarily invariant norm which satisfies this condition. Using this, we get an approximation of unitarily invariant norms. Although the minimum unitarily invariant norm which satisfies this condition does not exist in general, we find conditions over A i s and r i s which are sufficient for the existence of such a norm. Finally, we get a characterization of unitarily invariant norms.  相似文献

In this paper we set up a representation theorem for tracial gauge norms on finite von Neumann algebras satisfying the weak Dixmier property in terms of Ky Fan norms. Examples of tracial gauge norms on finite von Neumann algebras satisfying the weak Dixmier property include unitarily invariant norms on finite factors (type II1 factors and Mn(C)) and symmetric gauge norms on L[0,1] and Cn. As the first application, we obtain that the class of unitarily invariant norms on a type II1 factor coincides with the class of symmetric gauge norms on L[0,1] and von Neumann's classical result [J. von Neumann, Some matrix-inequalities and metrization of matrix-space, Tomsk. Univ. Rev. 1 (1937) 286-300] on unitarily invariant norms on Mn(C). As the second application, Ky Fan's dominance theorem [Ky Fan, Maximum properties and inequalities for the eigenvalues of completely continuous operators, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 37 (1951) 760-766] is obtained for finite von Neumann algebras satisfying the weak Dixmier property. As the third application, some classical results in non-commutative Lp-theory (e.g., non-commutative Hölder's inequality, duality and reflexivity of non-commutative Lp-spaces) are obtained for general unitarily invariant norms on finite factors. We also investigate the extreme points of N(M), the convex compact set (in the pointwise weak topology) of normalized unitarily invariant norms (the norm of the identity operator is 1) on a finite factor M. We obtain all extreme points of N(M2(C)) and some extreme points of N(Mn(C)) (n?3). For a type II1 factor M, we prove that if t (0?t?1) is a rational number then the Ky Fan tth norm is an extreme point of N(M).  相似文献

In 1956, R. Penrose studied best-approximate solutions of the matrix equation AX = B. He proved that A+B (where A+ is the Moore-Penrose inverse) is the unique matrix of minimal Frobenius norm among all matrices which minimize the Frobenius norm of AX ? B. In particular, A+ is the unique best-approximate solution of AX = I. The vector version of Penrose's result (that is, the fact that the vector A+b is the best-approximate solution in the Euclidean norm of the vector equation Ax = b) has long been generalized to infinite dimensional Hilbert spaces. In this paper, an infinite dimensional version of Penrose's full result is given. We show that a straightforward generalization is not possible and provide new extremal characterizations (in terms of the Hermitian order) of A+ and of the classes of generalized inverses associated with minimal norm solutions of consistent operator equations or with least-squares solutions. For a certain class of operators, we can phrase our characterizations in terms of a whole class of norms (including the Hilbert-Schmidt and the trace norms), thus providing new extremal characterizations even in the matrix case. We treat both operators with closed range and with not necessarily closed range. Finally, we characterize A+ as the unique inner inverse of minimal Hilbert-Schmidt norm if ∥A+2 < ∞. We give an application of the new extremal characterization to the compensation problem in systems analysis in infinite-dimensional Hilbert spaces.  相似文献

An n ×nω-circulant matrix which has a specific structure is a type of important matrix. Several norm equalities and inequalities are proved for ω-circulant operator matrices with ω = eiθ (0 ≤ θ < 2π) in this paper. We give the special cases for norm equalities and inequalities, such as the usual operator norm and the Schatten p-norms. Pinching type inequality is also proposed for weakly unitarily invariant norms. Meanwhile, we present that the set of ω-circulant matrices with complex entries has an idempotent basis. Based on this basis, we introduce an automorphism on the ω-circulant algebra and then show different operators on linear vector space that are isomorphic to the ω-circulant algebra. The function properties, other idempotent bases and a linear involution are discussed for ω-circulant algebra. These results are closely related to the special structure of ω-circulant matrices.  相似文献

Let A,B be positive semidefinite matrices and any unitarily invariant norm on the space of matrices. We show for any non-negative operator monotone function f(t) on , and for non-negative increasing function g(t) on with g(0) = 0 and , whose inverse function is operator monotone. We consider elliptic operators A on a bounded domain, that are compact perturbations of a selfadjoint operator. We first recall some spectral properties of such operators: localization of the spectrum and resolvent estimates. We then derive a spectral inequality that measures the norm of finite sums of root vectors of A through an observation, with an exponential cost. Following the strategy of Lebeau and Robbiano (1995) [25], we deduce the construction of a control for the non-selfadjoint parabolic problem tu+Au=Bg. In particular, the L2 norm of the control that achieves the extinction of the lower modes of A is estimated. Examples and applications are provided for systems of weakly coupled parabolic equations and for the measurement of the level sets of finite sums of root functions of A.  相似文献

Several norm equalities and inequalities for operator matrices are proved in this paper. These results, which depend on the structure of circulant and skew circulant operator matrices, include pinching type inequalities for weakly unitarily invariant norms.  相似文献

If A and B are self-adjoint operators, this paper shows that A and B have order isomorphic invariant subspace lattices if and only if there are Borel subsets E and F of σ(A) and σ(B), respectively, whose complements have spectral measure zero, and there is a bijective function φ: EF such that (i) Δ is a Borel subset of E if and only if φ(Δ) is a Borel subset of F; (ii) a Borel subset Δ of E has A-spectral measure zero if and only if φ(Δ) has B-spectral measure zero; (iii) B is unitarily equivalent to φ(A). If A is any self-adjoint operator, there is an associated function κA : N ∪ {∞} → (N ∪ {0, ∞}) × {0,1} defined in this paper. If F denotes the collection of all functions from N ∪ {∞} into (N ∪ {0,∞}) × {0,1}, then F is a parameter space for the isomorphism classes of the invariant subspace lattices of self-adjoint operators. That is, two self-adjoint operators A and B have isomorphic invariant subspace lattices if and only if κA = κB. The paper ends with some comments on the corresponding problem for normal operators.  相似文献

General H?lder-type inequalities involving unitarily invariant norms for sums and products of Hilbert space operators are given. Among other inequalities, it is shown that if A, B and X are operators on a complex Hilbert space, then $$\left\vert \left\vert \left\vert {} \left\vert A^{\ast }XB\right\vert^{r} \right\vert \right\vert \right\vert ^{2}\leq \left\vert \left\vert \left\vert \left( A^{\ast }\left\vert X^{\ast} \right\vert A\right) ^{\frac{ pr}{2}} \right\vert \right\vert \right\vert ^{\frac{1}{p}} \left\vert \left\vert \left\vert \left( B^{\ast }\left\vert X\right\vert B\right) ^{ \frac{qr}{2}} \right\vert \right\vert \right\vert ^{\frac{1}{q}}$$ for all positive real numbers r, p and q such that p ?1?+?q ?1?=?1 and for every unitarily invariant norm. The results in this article generalize some known H?lder inequalities for operators.  相似文献

A spectral characterization is obtained for those normal operators which belong to the convex hull of the unitary orbit of a given normal operator on a finite-dimensional space. This is used to prove the following: if A and B are normal operators on an n-dimensional complex Hilbert space H with eigenvalues given by α1,…,αn and β1,…, βn respectively, and if A ? B is also normal, then 6A ? B6 ? maxσ ? Sn 6 diagkσ(k))6 for any unitarily invariant norm on L(H).  相似文献

The main results provide comparisons between condition numbers (based on unitarily invariant norms) of (i) positive definite (Hermitian) matrices A, B and of A + B, (ii) a positive definite matrix and its principal submatrix, and (iii) a matrix and an augmented form of the matrix.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce a new technique for proving norm inequalities in operator ideals with a unitarily invariant norm. Among the well-known inequalities which can be proved with this technique are the Löwner-Heinz inequality, inequalities relating various operator means and the Corach-Porta-Recht inequality. We prove two general inequalities and from them we derive several inequalities by specialization, many of them new. We also show how some inequalities, known to be valid for matrices or bounded operators, can be extended with this technique to normed ideals in C-algebras, in particular to the noncommutative Lp-spaces of a semi-finite von Neumann algebra.  相似文献

We develop a new method for obtaining bounds on the negative eigenvalues of self-adjoint operators B in terms of a Schatten norm of the difference of the semigroups generated by A and B, where A is an operator with non-negative spectrum. Our method is based on the application of the Jensen identity of complex function theory to a suitably constructed holomorphic function, whose zeros are in one-to-one correspondence with the negative eigenvalues of B. Applying our abstract results, together with bounds on Schatten norms of semigroup differences obtained by Demuth and Van Casteren, to Schr?dinger operators, we obtain inequalities on moments of the sequence of negative eigenvalues, which are different from the Lieb–Thirring inequalities. It is shown that if A, B, X are Hilbert space operators such that X?γI, for the positive real number γ, and p,q>1 with 1/p+1/q=1, then |AB|2?p|A|2+q|B|2 with equality if and only if (1−p)A=B and γ||||AB|2|||?|||p|A|2X+qX|B|2||| for every unitarily invariant norm. Moreover, if in addition A, B are normal and X is any Hilbert-Schmidt operator, then ‖δA,B2(X)‖2?‖p|A|2X+qX|B|22 with equality if and only if (1−p)AX=XB.  相似文献

We establish several operator versions of the classical Aczél inequality. One of operator versions deals with the weighted operator geometric mean and another is related to the positive sesquilinear forms. Some applications including the unital positive linear maps on C*-algebras and the unitarily invariant norms on matrices are presented.  相似文献

It is shown that if A and B are positive operators on a separable complex Hilbert space, then for every unitarily invariant norm. When specialized to the usual operator norm ||·|| and the Schatten p-norms ||·||p, this inequality asserts that and These inequalities improve upon some earlier related inequalities. Other norm inequalities for sums of positive operators are also obtained.  相似文献
