Summary Let X(t)=(X 1 (t), X 2 (t), , X t (t)) be a k-type (2k<) continuous time, supercritical, nonsingular, positively regular Markov branching process. Let M(t)=((m ij (t))) be the mean matrix where m ij (t)=E(X j (t)¦X r (0)= ir for r=1, 2, , k) and write M(t)=exp(At). Let be an eigenvector of A corresponding to an eigenvalue . Assuming second moments this paper studies the limit behavior as t of the stochastic process . We study the lower semicontinuous envelope in Lp(), F, of a functional F of the form F(u)=A uudx where A=A(x) is not strictly elliptic and not bounded. We prove that F; may also be written as F;(u)= Buudx with B=AP A for a matrix P which is the matrix of an orthogonal projection. In the representation theory of symmetric groups, for each partition of a natural number n, the partition h() of n is defined so as to obtain a certain set of zeros in the table of characters for Sn. Namely, h() is the greatest (under the lexicographic ordering ) partition among P(n) such that (g) 0. Here, is an irreducible character of Sn, indexed by a partition , and g is a conjugacy class of elements in Sn, indexed by a partition . We point out an extra set of zeros in the table that we are dealing with. For every non self-associated partition P(n), the partition f() of n is defined so that f() is greatest among the partitions of n which are opposite in sign to h() and are such that (g) 0 (Thm. 1). Let {Xi} be a sequence of random variables, E(Xi) 0. If 1, estimates for the -th moments can be derived from known estimates of the -th moment. Here we generalized the Men'shov-Rademacher inequality for =2 for orthonormal Xi, to the case 1 and dependent random variables. The Men'shov-Payley inequality >2 for orthonormal Xi) is generalized for >2 to general random variables. This paper extends Kato's proof [5] of Banach's closed range theorem to locally convex spaces. Thus we consider a locally convex space (E,) and pairs (M,N) of closed subspaces. We call such a pair -open, if and only if there exists a directed, total system of seminorms generating the topology induced by a on M+N, such that the minimal gap p(M,N)>O for each p. Our main result is a generalisation of the closed range theorem and it consists of statements on relationships between the following properties: (a) M+N -closed, (b) M+N (E,E)-closed, (c) M+N (E,E)-closed, (d) (M,N) -open, (e) (M,N) (E,E)-open, (f) (M,N) (E,E)-open, (g) (M,N) (E,E)-open, (h) M+N=(MN), (i) M+N=(MN).By specialising the space (E,) and the subspaces M,N, our generalisation includes the closed range theorems of Dieudonné and Schwartz [4], Browder [1] and Mochizuki [12]. It is shown that these theorems not only hold for closed linear operators but even for closed linear relations. We are therefore able to obtain closed domain theorems which extend Brown's examinations in Banach-spaces [2] to locally convex spaces.

We study the subgroups of the full linear group GL(n, R) over a Dedekind ring R that contain the group of quasidiagonal matrices of fixed type with diagonal blocks of at least third order, each of which is generated by elementary matrices. For any such subgroup H there exists a unique D-net of ideals of R such that, where E() is the subgroup generated by all transvections of the net subgroup G(). and is the normalizer of G(). The subgroup E() is normal in. To study the factor group we introduce an intermediate subgroup F(), E() F() G(). The group is finite and is connected with permutations in the symmetric group. The factor group G()/F() is Abelian — these are the values of a certain determinant. In the calculation of F()/E() appears the SK1-functor. We show that the r-dominated polynomials on p(2 p ) are integral on 1, and give examples proving that the converse is not true. We characterize when the 2-homogeneous, diagonal polynomials on p(1 < p ) are r-dominated. We consider the propagation of concentrated wave packets along space-time rays for the case of frequency-dependent velocity: c=co(x,t)+c1(x,t,), 1. The complex ray method is applied to construct formal asymptotic expansions. In this paper we give a complete asymptotic expansion of the Jacobi functions (, ) (t) as + . The method we employed to get the complete expansion follows that of Olver in treating similar problems. By using a Gronwall-Bellman type inequality for an improper integral in which the integrand is an unbounded function and contains a parameter, we get an error bound of the asymptotic approximation which is different from that of Olver's.  相似文献
