By applying semi-analytical point-force Green's functions obtained via the Stroh formulism, we derive simple line integrals to calculate the elastic displacement and stress fields for a three-dimensional dislocation loop in an anisotropic bimaterial system. The solutions for the case of anisotropy are more convenient for treating an arbitrary dislocation loop compared with traditional area integration. With this new formulation, we numerically examine the displacement, stress, and energy due to the interaction between a dislocation loop and the bimaterial interface in an Al–Cu system. The interactive image energy due to the elastic moduli mismatch across the interface is then numerically evaluated. The result shows that a dislocation loop is subjected to an attractive force by the interface when it lies in the stiff material, and a repulsive force when it lies in the soft material. Moreover, the dependence of the interactive image energy of a dislocation loop on the position and size of the dislocation loop are also demonstrated and discussed. Significantly, it is found that the interactive image energy for a dislocation loop depends only on the ratio d/a, where a is the loop diameter and d is its distance to the interface. The examples studied provide benchmark solutions for anisotropic bimaterial dislocation problems.  相似文献

This work presents the characterization of a thermal interface material consisting of an array of mercury microdroplets deposited on a silicon die. Three arrays were tested, a 40 × 40 array (1600 grid) and two 20 × 20 arrays (400 grid). All arrays were assembled on a 4 × 4 mm2 silicon die. An experimental facility which measures the thermal resistance across the mercury array under steady state conditions is described. The thermal interface resistance of the arrays was characterized as a function of the applied load. A thermal interface resistance as low as 0.253 mm2 K W−1 was measured. A model to predict the thermal resistance of a liquid-metal microdroplet array was developed and compared to the experimental results. The contact resistance of the mercury arrays was estimated based on the experimental and model data. An average contact resistance was estimated to be 0.14 mm2 K W−1.  相似文献

Current research on nanocrystalline metals and nanoscale multilayer thin films suggests extraordinary plastic strength is due to confinement of slip to individual grains or layers. To assess the magnitude of confinement, a Peierls model of slip transmission of a screw dislocation across a coherent, non-slipping interface is presented. The results reflect that large interfacial barriers to transmission are generated by rapid fluctuations in dislocation line energy near the interface due to elastic modulus mismatch, stacking fault energy mismatch, and antiphase boundary energy for transmission into an ordered phase. Coherency stress is predicted to dramatically alter the dislocation core configuration and impart additional strength regardless of the sign. Contributions to strength are not additive due to nonlinear coupling via the dislocation core configuration. The predicted barrier strength for a coherent (0 0 1) Cu/Ni interface is comparable to atomistic (EAM) results but larger than estimates from hardness data.  相似文献

A spatially resolved X-ray diffraction method – with a submicron 3D resolution together with SEM and OIM analysis are applied to understand the arrangements of voids, geometrically necessary dislocations and strain gradient distributions in samples of Al (1 2 3) and Cu (0 0 1) single crystals shocked to incipient spallation fracture. We describe how geometrically necessary dislocations and the effective strain gradient alter white beam Laue patterns of the shocked materials. Several distinct structural zones are observed at different depths under the impact surface. The density of geometrically necessary dislocations (GNDs) is extremely high near the impact and back surface of the shock recovered crystals. The spall region is characterized by a large density of mesoscale voids and GNDs. The spall region is separated from the impact and back surfaces by compressed regions with high total dislocation density but lower GNDs density. Self-organization of shear bands is observed in the shock recovered Cu single crystal.  相似文献

Saturation boiling of PF-5060 dielectric liquid on Cu micro-porous surface layers (95, 139, 171, 197 and 220-μm thick) is investigated. These layers are deposited on 10 × 10 mm Cu substrates using two-stage electrochemical process. The basic micro-structure, obtained in the first stage using current density of 3 A/cm2 for 15–44 s, depending on thickness, is strengthened by continuing electrochemical deposition using much lower current density for 10’s of minutes. For conditioned surface layers, after a few successive boiling tests, the pool boiling curves are reproducible and the temperature excursion prior to boiling incipience is either eliminated or reduced <7 K. Present nucleate boiling results are markedly better than those reported for dielectric liquids on micro- and macro-structured surfaces. Present values of CHF (22.7–27.8 W/cm2) and hMNB (2.05–13.5 W/cm2 K) are ∼40–70% higher than and >17 times those reported on plane surfaces (<16 W/cm2 and ∼0.8 W/cm2 K). Best results are those of the 171-μm thick layer: CHF of 27.8 W/cm2 occurs at ΔTsat of only 2.1 K and hMNB of 13.5 W/cm2 K occurs at ΔTsat = 2.0 K.  相似文献

The transient motion of an anisotropic elastic bimaterial due to a line force or a line dislocation is studied. The bimaterial is assumed to be at rest and stress-free for t < 0. The line source is applied at t = 0 and maintained for t > 0. A formulation which is an extension to Stroh’s formalism for anisotropic elastostatics is employed. The general solution is expressed in terms of the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a related eigenvalue problem. The method is used to obtain the analytic solutions without the need of performing integral transforms. Numerical examples of the GaAs bimaterial due to a line force or dislocation are presented for illustration.  相似文献

By virtue of the Stroh formalism, we derive the exact closed-form solutions for the time-dependent two-dimensional Green's functions due to a line force and line dislocation in an anisotropic bimaterial with a viscous interface. We first reduce the boundary value problem to two coupled homogeneous first-order partial differential equations, which can be solved using a decoupling technique. The full-field expressions of the time-dependent displacements and stresses due to the line force and line dislocation interacting with the viscous interface are obtained.  相似文献

Discrete dislocation dynamics (DDD) has been used to model the deformation of nickel-based single crystal superalloys with a high volume fraction of precipitates at high temperature. A representative volume cell (RVC), comprising of both the precipitate and the matrix phase, was employed in the simulation where a periodic boundary condition was applied. The dislocation Frank-Read sources were randomly assigned with an initial density on the 12 octahedral slip systems in the matrix channel. Precipitate shearing by superdislocations was modelled using a back force model, and the coherency stress was considered by applying an initial internal stress field. Strain-controlled loading was applied to the RVC in the [0 0 1] direction. In addition to dislocation structure and density evolution, global stress-strain responses were also modelled considering the influence of precipitate shearing, precipitate morphology, internal microstructure scale (channel width and precipitate size) and coherency stress. A three-stage stress-strain response observed in the experiments was modelled when precipitate shearing by superdislocations was considered. The polarised dislocation structure deposited on the precipitate/matrix interface was found to be the dominant strain hardening mechanism. Internal microstructure size, precipitate shape and arrangement can significantly affect the deformation of the single crystal superalloy by changing the constraint effect and dislocation mobility. The coherency stress field has a negligible influence on the stress-strain response, at least for cuboidal precipitates considered in the simulation. Preliminary work was also carried out to simulate the cyclic deformation in a single crystal Ni-based superalloy using the DDD model, although no cyclic hardening or softening was captured due to the lack of precipitate shearing and dislocation cross slip for the applied strain considered.  相似文献

When uranium alloyed with 6-wt% niobium (U–6Nb) is rapidly compressed in uniaxial strain experiments, shear stress is observed to relax with a characteristic time of 30 ± 7 ns. In shock wave experiments, this relaxation inhibits the development of an elastic precursor commonly seen in other materials. When U–6Nb is cold-rolled to pre-twin and significantly increase the density of dislocations in the material, stress relaxation effects are diminished suggesting that twinning causes relaxation in the un-worked material. Separate ramp wave compression experiments produce effects that agree with those observed in shock-loading experiments. A phenomenological model is introduced that allows accurate simulation of all experiments. Estimates of residual shear stress after relaxation are obtained.  相似文献

Nanoscale metallic multilayered (NMM) composites possess ultra high strength (order of GPa) and high ductility, and exhibit high fatigue resistance. Their mechanical behavior is governed mainly by interface properties (coherent and/or incoherent interfaces), dislocation mechanisms in small volume, and dislocation-interface interaction. In this work, we investigate these effects within a dislocation dynamics (DD) framework and analyze the mechanical behavior of two systems: (1) a bi-material system (CuNi) with coherent interface and (2) a newly developed tri-material system (CuNiNb) composed of both coherent and incoherent interfaces. For the bi-material case we analyze the influence of networks of interfacial dislocations whose nature and distribution are commensurate with the level of relaxation and loading of the structure. Misfit and pre-deposited interfacial dislocation arrays, as well as combinations of both, are studied and the dependence of strength on layer thickness is reported, along with observed dislocation mechanisms. It is shown that interfacial defect configurations significantly alter the strength and mechanical behavior of the material. Furthermore, it is shown that the implementation of penetrable interfaces in DD captures the strength dependence at layer thicknesses on the order of 3-7 nm. For the tri-material case we analyze the effects of coherent and incoherent interfaces in large-scale simulations. The results show that these materials have strong strength-size dependence but are limited by the strength of the incoherent (CuNb) interface which is weak in shear. The weak interface acts as a dislocation sink. This in turn induces an internal shear stress field that activates cross-slip in the adjacent CuNi interlace and thus causing softening. Moreover, it is shown that the yield stress of the CuNiNb system is controlled by the volume fraction of the Nb. Because Nb is the most compliant of the three materials, an increase in volume fraction of Nb decreases the overall yield strength of the material.  相似文献

This paper focuses on the development of a plasticity model to describe high rate deformations of metals. Modeling of target mechanical response is performed in frames of continuum mechanics. Plastic flow is described as the result of an over barrier dislocation sliding in specific slip planes. Computations of shock wave propagation in fcc, bcc and hcp metals modeling in comparison with shock wave experiments are performed to verify the model. The model predicts yield strength increase on elastic precursor in aluminum monocrystal and titanium of high purity at high temperatures. The action on a copper target of the electron beams with energy density (the total energy incident on an unit area during an irradiation pulse) 8.6 J cm−2 and varied pulse duration has been investigated. At the considered irradiation regime the target remains in a solid state (maximal temperature is 710 K) and shear stresses can reach values of about 0.72 GPa. Depth distribution of dislocation density after irradiation has a maximum that is localized on a distance of 10 μm from the irradiated surface and the maximum dislocation density is about 6 × 109 cm−2 in the target. The shortening of the exposure time to 1 ns leads to the increase of the dislocation density. Further reduction of exposure time has a weak effect on the dislocation density because the shear stresses reach a limit.  相似文献

Atomistic simulations were used to investigate dislocation nucleation from Σ3 asymmetric (inclined) tilt grain boundaries under uniaxial tension applied perpendicular to the boundary. Molecular dynamics was employed based on embedded atom method potentials for Cu and Al at 10 K and 300 K. Results include the grain boundary structure and energy, along with mechanical properties and mechanisms associated with dislocation nucleation from these Σ3 boundaries. The stress and work required for dislocation nucleation were calculated along with elastic stiffness of the bicrystal configurations, exploring the change in response as a function of inclination angle. Analyses of dislocation nucleation mechanisms for asymmetric Σ3 boundaries in Cu show that dislocation nucleation is preceded by dislocation dissociation from the boundary. Then, dislocations preferentially nucleate in only one crystal on the maximum Schmid factor slip plane(s) for that crystal. However, this crystal is not simply predicted based on either the Schmid or non-Schmid factors. The synthesis of these results provides a better understanding of the dislocation nucleation process in these faceted, dissociated grain boundaries.  相似文献

Interfacial dislocation may have a spreading core corresponding to a weak shear resistance of interfaces. In this paper, a conic model is proposed to mimic the spreading core of interfacial dislocation in anisotropic bimaterials. By the Stroh formalism and Green's function, the analytical expressions of the elastic fields are deduced for such a dislocation. Taking Cu/Nb bimaterial as an example, it is demonstrated that the accuracy and efficiency of the method are well validated by the interface conditions, a spreading core can greatly reduce the stress intensity near the interfacial dislocation compared with the compact core, and the elastic fields near the spreading core region are significantly different from the condensed core, while they are less sensitive to a field point that is 1.5times the core width away from the center of the spreading core.  相似文献

The complex variable method is employed to derive analytical solutions for the interaction between a piezoelectric screw dislocation and a Kelvin-type viscoelastic piezoelectric bimaterial interface. Through analytical continuation, the original boundary value problem can be reduced to an inhomogeneous first-order partial differential equation for a single function of location z = x + iy and time t defined in the lower half-plane, which is free of the screw dislocation. Once the initial, steady-state and far-field conditions are known, the solution to the first order differential equation can be obtained. From the solved function, explicit expressions are then derived for the stresses, strains, electric fields and electric displacements induced by the piezoelectric screw dislocation. Also presented is the image force acting on the screw dislocation due to its interaction with the Kelvin-type viscoelastic interface. The derived solutions are verified by comparing with existing solutions for the simplified cases, and various interesting features are observed, particularly for those associated with the image force.  相似文献

For the first time, high quality bulk nanocrystalline (nc) fcc metals, with least amounts of imperfections, exhibiting high strength and ductility at room and different temperatures, under quasi-static and dynamic types of loading, were prepared and a comprehensive study on their post-yield mechanical properties was performed. This investigation included study of the effect of temperature on stress–strain responses of mechanically milled bulk nc Cu and Al. The samples after preparation through mechanical milling and consolidation processes were subjected to uniaxial compressive loading at quasi-static and dynamic strain rates of 10−2 s−1 and 1840–3105 s−1, respectively, at temperatures ranging from 223 to 523 K. In both materials strong dependency of flow stress to temperature was observed; this dependency was rather more pronounced when the materials were tested at the quasi-static strain rate. Further, a new grain size and temperature dependent viscoplastic phenomenological constitutive equation, Khan–Liang–Farrokh (KLF) model was developed based on the Khan–Huang–Liang (KHL) constitutive equation. The model was featured to correlate different characteristic behaviors of polycrystalline materials in the plastic regime, as the result of grain refinement. In addition, the viscoplastic responses of bulk Cu and Al of different grain sizes (from sub-micron to nanometer range), and those from bulk nc Cu and Al at different strain rates (quasi-static to dynamic), recently published (21 and 22), were simulated using the newly developed equation. The results confirmed reasonable capability of the developed model to correlate a wide spectrum of the viscoplastic responses of these fcc metals.  相似文献

This work deals with the influence of Kelvin-type viscoelastic interface on the generation of screw dislocations near the interfacial blunt crack tip in light of a pair of concentrated loads. The stress fields for dislocation and concentrated load have been obtained by using the integral transform and conformal mapping, the stress intensity factor have been studied, the image force acting on dislocation has been analyzed. The region rb where n screw dislocations are generated by a pair of concentrated loads and dislocation number are obtained by displacement compatibility and stress compatibility conditions of self-consistent and self-equilibrated systems. The results show that: the force acting on dislocation starts with the value that a perfectly bonded interface, then with relaxation of the imperfect interface; the shield effect for dislocation decreases as time goes by; in addition, with time elapsing, the influence of material shear modulus rate on shielding effect becomes weaker and weaker. The scale of multiplier α(rb/a) increases with relaxation of imperfect interface, the larger ratio of crack geometry c/a and the smaller ratio of shear modulus μ1/μ2 will lead the higher scale of multiplier. When μ1/μ2 = 1, the screw dislocations number first increases and then decreases with relaxation of imperfect interface, In addition, it possesses the highest value at t0 ≈ 1 and tends to vanish at t0 = ∞. When μ1 < μ2, the screw dislocations number increases with relaxation of imperfect interface. When μ1 > μ2, the screw dislocations number first increases then decreases with relaxation of imperfect interface, and possesses the highest value at t0 ≈ 1, the negative value are exclude from the discussion.  相似文献

We derive, by virtue of the unified Stroh formalism, the extremely concise and elegant solutions for two-dimensional and (quasi-static) time-dependent Green's functions in anisotropic magnetoelectroelastic multiferroic bimaterials with a viscous interface subjected to an extended line force and an extended line dislocation located in the upper half-plane. It is found for the first time that, in the multiferroic bimaterial Green's functions, there are 25 static image singularities and 50 moving image singularities in the form of the extended line force and extended line dislocation in the upper or lower half-plane. It is further observed that, as time evolves, the moving image singularities, which originate from the locations of the static image singularities, will move further away from the viscous interface with explicit time-dependent locations. Moreover, explicit expression of the time-dependent image force on the extended line dislocation due to its interaction with the viscous interface is derived, which is also valid for mathematically degenerate materials. Several special cases are discussed in detail for the image force expression to illustrate the influence of the viscous interface on the mobility of the extended line dislocation, and various interesting features are observed. These Green's functions can not only be directly applied to the study of dislocation mobility in the novel multiferroic bimaterials, they can also be utilized as kernel functions in a boundary integral formulation to investigate more complicated boundary value problems where multiferroic materials/composites are involved.  相似文献

We examine the plane strain deformations of a bimaterial system consisting of a line edge dislocation interacting with a flat interface between two dissimilar isotropic half-planes in which the additional effects of interface elasticity are incorporated into the model of deformation. The entire system is assumed to be free of any external loading. Despite the fact that it is generally accepted that the separate interface modulus describing interface elasticity is permitted to take negative values, we show that simple closed-form solutions for the dislocation-induced stress field and the image force acting on the dislocation are available only when the interface modulus is assumed to be positive; the corresponding system admits no valid solutions when the interface modulus is negative. We present several numerical examples to illustrate our solutions. Additionally, we show that the influence of interface elasticity on the dislocation-induced interfacial stress field decays with increasing hardness of the adjoining half-plane (free of the dislocation). Moreover, we find that for a given (positive) in-plane interface modulus, the corresponding interface effects on the image force (acting on the dislocation) can reach maximum or minimum values when the Burgers vector of the dislocation is either parallel or perpendicular to the interface.  相似文献

In this work, a silver-copper (Ag-Cu) nanocomposite with 200 nm bilayer thickness and eutectic composition was rolled at room temperature and 200 °C to nominal reductions of 75% and higher. Initially the material had a random texture and {1 1 1} bi-metal interface plane. X-ray diffraction measurements show that the Ag and Cu phases developed the same brass-type (or ‘alloy-type’) rolling texture regardless of rolling reduction and temperature. Transmission electron microscopy analyses of the nanostructures before and after rolling suggest that adjoining Ag and Cu layers maintained a cube-on-cube relationship but the interface plane changed after rolling. Polycrystal plasticity simulations accounting for plastic slip and deformation twinning in each phase were carried out to explore many possible causes for the brass-type texture development: twinning via a volume effect or barrier effect, Shockley partial slip, and confined layer slip. The results suggest that the observed texture evolution may be due to profuse twinning within both phases. Maintaining the cube-on-cube relationship would then imply that neighboring Ag and Cu crystals twinned by the same variant and on a twin plane non-parallel to the original interface plane. Explanations for this unusual possibility for Cu are provided at the end based on the properties of the Ag-Cu interface.  相似文献

Uniaxial tension and compression experiments on [0 0 1] and [0 1 1] oriented molybdenum nano-pillars exhibit tension-compression asymmetry, a difference in attained stresses in compression vs. tension, which is found to depend on crystallographic orientation and sample size. We find that (1) flow stresses become higher at smaller diameters in both orientations and both loading directions, (2) compressive flow stresses are higher than tensile ones in [0 0 1] orientation, and visa versa in [0 1 1] orientation, and (3) this tension-compression asymmetry is in itself size dependent. We attribute these phenomena to the dependence of twinning vs. antitwinning deformation on loading direction, to the non-planarity of screw dislocation cores in Mo crystals, and to the possibly lesser role of screw dislocations in governing nano-scale plasticity compared with bulk Mo.  相似文献
