The structure of confined wakes behind a square cylinder in a channel subject to a locally uniform suction or blowing at both the channel walls is presented. A pressure based finite-difference technique has been used to solve the unsteady Navier-Stokes equations. It is observed that the amplitude of the lift coefficient decreases with increase in the blowing velocity. Coefficients of drag also decrease for the application of uniform blowing and for a suitable value of the blowing parameter, the flow becomes steady and symmetric. The amplitude of the lift coefficients increases up to a certain limit of suction velocity and after that it suddenly decreases and flow becomes steady. Coefficients of drag also gives the same feature. Effects of the suction and blowing on the vortex-shedding region are analyzed in detail and presented graphically.  相似文献

Both shock control bump (SCB) and suction and blowing are flow control methods used to control the shock wave/boundary layer interaction (SWBLI) in order to reduce the resulting wave drag in transonic flows. A SCB uses a small local surface deformation to reduce the shock-wave strength, while suction decreases the boundary-layer thickness and blowing delays the flow separation. Here a multi-point optimization method under a constant-lift-coefficient constraint is used to find the optimum design of SCB and suction and blowing. These flow control methods are used separately or together on a RAE-2822 supercritical airfoil for a wide range of off-design transonic Mach numbers. The RANS flow equations are solved using Roe’s averages scheme and a gradient-based adjoint algorithm is used to find the optimum location and shape of all devices. It is shown that the simultaneous application of blowing and SCB (hybrid blowing/SCB) improves the average aerodynamic efficiency at off-design conditions by 18.2 % in comparison with the clean airfoil, while this increase is only 16.9 % for the hybrid suction/SCB. We have also studied the SWBLI and how the optimization algorithm makes the flow wave structure and interactions of the shock wave with the boundary layer favorable.  相似文献

The Dorodnitsyn finite element method for turbulent boundary layer flow with surface mass transfer is extended to include axisymmetric swirling internal boundary layer flow. Turbulence effects are represented by the two-layer eddy viscosity model of Cebeci and Smith1 with extensions to allow for the effect of swirl. The method is applied to duct entry flow and a 10 degree included-angle conical diffuser, and produces results in close agreement with experimental measurements with only 11 grid points across the boundary layer. The introduction of swirl (we/ue = 0.4) is found to have little effect on the axial skin friction in either a slightly favourable or adverse pressure gradient, but does cause an increase in the displacement area for an adverse pressure gradient. Surface mass transfer (blowing or suction) causes a substantial reduction (blowing) in axial skin friction and an increase in the displacement area. Both suction and the adverse pressure gradient have little influence on the circumferential velocity and shear stress components. Consequently in an adverse pressure gradient the flow direction adjacent to the wall is expected to approach the circumferential direction at some downstream location.  相似文献

The self-similarity solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations are constructed for an incompressible laminar flow through a uniformly porous channel with retractable walls under a transverse magnetic field. The flow is driven by the expanding or contracting walls with different permeability. The velocities of the asymmetric flow at the upper and lower walls are different in not only the magnitude but also the direction. The asymptotic solutions are well constructed with the method of boundary layer correction in two cases with large Reynolds numbers, i.e., both walls of the channel are with suction, and one of the walls is with injection while the other one is with suction. For small Reynolds number cases, the double perturbation method is used to construct the asymptotic solution. All the asymptotic results are finally verified by numerical results.  相似文献

In the present experimental investigation the surface pressure distribution, vortex shedding frequency, and the wake flow behind a porous circular cylinder are studied when continuous suction or blowing is applied through the cylinder walls. It is found that even moderate levels of suction/blowing (5% of the oncoming streamwise velocity) have a large impact on the flow around the cylinder. Suction delays separation contributing to a narrower wake width, and a corresponding reduction of drag, whereas blowing shows the opposite behaviour. Both uniform suction and blowing display unexpected flow features which are analysed in detail. Suction shows a decrease of the turbulence intensity throughout the whole wake when compared with the natural case, whilst blowing only shows an effect up to five diameters downstream of the cylinder. The drag on the cylinder is shown to increase linearly with the blowing rate, whereas for suction there is a drastic decrease at a specific suction rate. This is shown to be an effect of the separation point moving towards the rear part of the cylinder, similar to what happens when transition to turbulence occurs in the boundary layer on a solid cylinder. The suction/blowing rate can empirically be represented by an effective Reynolds number for the solid cylinder, and an analytical expression for this Reynolds number representation is proposed and verified. Flow visualizations expose the complexity of the flow field in the near wake of the cylinder, and image averaging enables the retrieval of quantitative information, such as the vortex formation length.  相似文献

An aerodynamic jet steering scheme using a combination of blowing and suction near the exit plane of the primary jet is demonstrated. Previous studies involving synthetic jet actuators have shown that jet steering or vectoring is achieved when primary jet fluid is drawn into the suction slot, and that the vectoring force increases with primary jet speed. These studies were limited by the high-actuation frequencies required to maintain vectoring at high primary jet speeds. The present steady technique does not suffer from this limitation, and requires suction and blowing flow rates which are a small fraction of that of the primary jet. This arrangement is studied experimentally and numerically. The results are presented primarily in terms of turning angle. It is found that for sufficient blowing flow rates (similar to the suction flow rate) the resultant turning angle increases linearly with the suction flow rate regardless of Reynolds number (up to 21,000). For insufficient blowing, the jet may be turned in the opposite direction. The authors would like to thank Ari Glezer for the loan of the primary jet facility, and Terry Zollinger for fabricating of the actuator and butterfly valve.  相似文献

Summary The steady laminar flow of a viscous incompressible fluid through a two-dimensional channel, having fluid sucked or injected with different velocities through its uniformly porous parallel walls is considered. A solution for small suction Reynolds number has been given by the authors in a previous paper. The purpose of this paper is to present a solution valid for large Reynolds numbers for the cases of (i) suction at both walls, and (ii) suction at one wall and injection at the other. A technique of matching outer and inner expansions is used to obtain an asymptotic solution for both of these cases. Further a perturbation solution for the case of suction at one wall and injection at the other is obtained by choosing the difference between two wall velocities as the perturbation parameter. Both asymptotic and perturbation solutions are confirmed by exact numerical solutions. As expected, the resulting solutions show the presence of the usual suction boundary layers in both types of flow considered in this paper.  相似文献

A vorticity-velocity method was used to study the incompressible viscous fluid flow around a circular cylinder with surface suction or blowing. The resulted high order implicit difference equations were effeciently solved by the modified incomplete LU decomposition conjugate gradient scheme (MILU-CG). The effects of surface suction or blowing ' s position and strength on the vortex structures in the cylinder wake, as well as on the drag and lift forces at Reynoldes number Re = 100 were investigated numerically. The results show that the suction on the shoulder of the cylinder or the blowing on the rear of the cylinder can effeciently suppress the asymmetry of the vortex wake in the transverse direction and greatly reduce the lift force; the suction on the shoulder of the cylinder, when its strength is properly chosen , can reduce the drag force significantly , too.  相似文献

In the framework of the locally self-similar approximation of the Navier-Stokes equations an investigation is made of the flow of homogeneous gas in a hypersonic viscous shock layer, including the transition region through the shock wave, on wings of infinite span with rounded leading edge. The neighborhood of the stagnation line is considered. The boundary conditions, which take into account blowing or suction of gas, are specified on the surface of the body and in the undisturbed flow. A method of numerical solution of the problem proposed by Gershbein and Kolesnikov [1] and generalized to the case of flow past wings at different angles of slip is used. A solution to the problem is found in a wide range of variation of the Reynolds numbers, the blowing (suction) parameter, and the angle of slip. Flow past wings with rounded leading edge at different angles of slip has been investigated earlier only in the framework of the boundary layer equations (see, for example, [2], which gives a brief review of early studies) or a hypersonic viscous shock layer [3].Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 3, pp. 150–154, May–June, 1984.  相似文献

The spatio-temporal dynamics of small disturbances in viscous supersonic flow over a blunt flat plate at freestream Mach number M=2.5 is numerically simulated using a spectral approximation to the Navier–Stokes equations. The unsteady solutions are computed by imposing weak acoustic waves onto the steady base flow. In addition, the unsteady response of the flow to velocity perturbations introduced by local suction and blowing through a slot in the body surface is investigated. The results indicate distinct disturbance/shock-wave interactions in the subsonic region around the leading edge for both types of forcing. While the disturbance amplitudes on the wall retain a constant level for the acoustic perturbation, those generated by local suction and blowing experience a strong decay downstream of the slot. Furthermore, the results prove the importance of the shock in the distribution of perturbations, which have their origin in the leading-edge region. These disturbance waves may enter the boundary layer further downstream to excite instability modes.  相似文献

The flow of a second-grade fluid past a porous plate subject to either suction or blowing at the plate has been studied. A modified model of second-grade fluid that has shear-dependent viscosity and can predict the normal stress difference is used. The differential equations governing the flow are solved using homotopy analysis method (HAM). Expressions for the velocity have been constructed and discussed with the help of graphs. Analysis of the obtained results showed that the flow is appreciably influenced by the material and normal stress coefficient. Several results of interest are deduced as the particular cases of the presented analysis.  相似文献

An unsteady boundary layer flow of a non-Newtonian fluid over a continuously stretching permeable surface in the presence of thermal radiation is investigated. The Maxwell fluid model is used to characterize the non-Newtonian fluid behavior. Similarity solutions for the transformed governing equations are obtained. The transformed boundary layer equations are then solved numerically by the shooting method. The flow features and heat transfer characteristics for different values of the governing parameters (unsteadiness parameter, Maxwell parameter, permeability parameter, suction/blowing parameter, thermal radiation parameter, and Prandtl number) are analyzed and discussed in detail.  相似文献

A study is made of the flow of a compressible gas in a laminar boundary layer on swept-back wings of infinite span in a supersonic gas flow at different angles of attack. The surface is assumed to be either impermeable or that gas is blown or sucked through it. For this flow and an axisymmetric flow an analytic solution to the problem is obtained in the first approximation of an integral method of successive approximation. For large values of the blowing or suction parameters, asymptotic solutions are found for the boundary layer equations. Some results of numerical solution of the problem obtained by the finite-difference method are given for wings of various shapes in a wide range of angles characterizing the amount by which the wings are swept back and also the blowing or suction parameters. A numerical solution is obtained for the equations of the three-dimensional mixing layer formed in the case of strong blowing of gas from the surface of the body. The analytic and numerical solutions are compared and the regions of applicability of the analytic expressions are estimated. On the basis of the solutions obtained in the present paper and studies of other authors a formula is proposed for the calculation of the heat fluxes to a perfectly catalytic surface of swept-back wings in a supersonic flow of dissociated and ionized air at different angles of attack. Flow over swept-back wings at zero angle of attack has been considered earlier (see, for example, [1–4]) in the theory of a laminar boundary layer. In [5], a study was made of flow over swept-back wings at nonzero angle of attack at small and moderate Reynolds numbers in the framework of the theory of a hypersonic viscous shock layer.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 3, pp. 27–39, May–June, 1980.We thank G. Analytical and numerical methods are used to investigate a three-dimensional laminar boundary layer near symmetry planes of blunt bodies in supersonic gas flows. In the first approximation of an integral method of successive approximation an analytic solution to the problem is obtained that is valid for an impermeable surface, for small values of the blowing parameter, and arbitrary values of the suction parameter. An asymptotic solution is obtained for large values of the blowing or suction parameters in the case when the velocity vector of the blown gas makes an acute angle with the velocity vector of the external flow on the surface of the body. Some results are given of the numerical solution of the problem for bodies of different shapes and a wide range of angles of attack and blowing and suction parameters. The analytic and numerical solutions are compared and the region of applicability of the analytic expressions is estimated. On the basis of the solutions obtained in the present work and that of other authors, a formula is proposed for calculating the heat fluxes to a perfectly catalytic surface at a symmetry plane of blunt bodies in a supersonic flow of dissociated and ionized air at different angles of attack. Flow near symmetry planes on an impermeable surface or for weak blowing was considered earlier in the framework of the theory of a laminar boundary layer in [1–4]. Integral parameters that characterize reversible and irreversible changes in the flux of the total pressure in channels with perforated walls are introduced. An experimental investigation was made of subsonic gas flow in curvilinear channels of rectangular cross section in the presence of suction of gas from a separation region of the flow formed on an internal (convex) strongly curved wall of the channel. The optimal position of the suction slit was determined and it was shown to be possible to reduce appreciably the loss in the channel and improve its gas-dynamic characteristics. Two-dimensional turbulent flow of an incompressible fluid in curvilinear channels in the presence of suction was simulated numerically. The mathematical model is based on the complete system of Navier-Stokes equations, additional differential equations for the energy of the turbulence and the rate of its dissipation, special correction equations to take into account the curvature of the streamlines, and model boundary conditions for the sections of the walls through which the suction of the fluid takes place.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhldkosti i Gaza, No. 4, pp. 72–80, July–August, 1984.  相似文献

This research numerically elucidates the effects of suction and blowing on the enhancement of unsteady aerodynamic characteristics of flows and their corresponding impact on stall delay over the well-known NACA0012 airfoil at various angles of attack (\( 12 \le {\text{AOA}} \le 20 \)) under low Reynolds numbers. For this purpose, an in-house solver written in C++ is developed. The numerical code utilizes the Jameson’s cell-centered finite volume numerical method accompanied by a progressive power-law preconditioning approach to suppress the stiffness of the governing equations. Many numerical simulations are performed over the suction-blowing control parameters, namely, the slot location (\( L_{j} \)), suction/blowing amplitudes (\( A_{j} \)), and suction/blowing angle (\( \theta_{j} \)). Most of the analyses are based on the measurements of the unsteady aerodynamic characteristics behaviors (such as lift, drag, moment coefficients, and stall phenomena) over the airfoil. The numerical results confirm that the unsteady behavior of the flow (vortex shedding) is weakened or approximately removed when suction is used, especially near the leading edge. In all of the test cases, the ratio of the average lift coefficient to the average drag coefficient increases with increasing suction and blowing amplitudes, except in the case of perpendicular blowing. Furthermore, the blowing is more sensitive to the blowing angle compared to the suction. From the suction and blowing results, it is concluded that the former has a more positive impact on the lift and drag characteristics, especially in the case of incompressible flow at Low-Reynolds regimes.  相似文献

Numerical and approximate analytic methods are used to investigate three-dimensional laminar boundary layers on blunt bodies with permeable surface in a supersonic gas stream. In the first approximation of the integral method of successive approximation an analytic solution is obtained to the problem for an impermeable surface, small values of the blowing parameter, and arbitrary suction. For large parameters of the blowing (or suction), whose velocity vector in the general case is directed at a certain angle to the vector of the outer normal to the body, asymptotic expressions are derived for the components of the frictional stress and the heat flux. A numerical solution is obtained to the equations of the three-dimensional boundary layer in a wide range of variation of the blowing (or suction) parameter. The accuracy and region of applicability of the analytic solutions is estimated by comparison with the numerical solutions. On the basis of the solutions obtained in the present paper and the work of other authors an expression is proposed for calculating the heat fluxes to a perfectly catalytic surface of a body in a three-dimensional supersonic flow of dissociated or ionized air. It is well known that the blowing of cold gas through the side walls of the channel of a dc plasmotron (plasma generator) with longitudinal blowing over the arc leads to an increase in the useful power of the plasmotron [1]. The increase is due to the increase in the combustion voltage of the arc and also the decrease in the heat fluxes to the wall of the channel. The present paper solves the problem of the optimal distribution of the flow rate of gas blown through the side walls into the channel of a dc plasmotron of arbitrary shape F(x). The flow in the main channel and in the ducts in the side walls is described by the quasi-one-dimensional gas-dynamic equations investigated qualitatively in [2] and verified experimentally in [3].Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 3, pp. 120–124, May–June, 1981.  相似文献

In this paper, we use nonlinear calculations to study curved boundary‐layer flows with pressure gradients and self‐similar suction or blowing. For an accelerated outer flow, stabilization occurs in the linear region while the saturation amplitude of vortices is larger than for flows with a decelerating outer flow. The combined effects of boundary‐layer suction and a favourable pressure gradient can give a significant stabilization of the flow. Streamwise vortices can be amplified on both concave and convex walls for decelerated Falkner–Skan flow with an overshoot in the velocity profile. The disturbance amplitude is generally lower far downstream compared with profiles without overshoot. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, a comprehensive mathematical analysis is carried out on an unsteady boundary-layer flow with heat and mass transfer characteristics of a viscous fluid through porous media. Fluid suction or blowing is assumed to take place at the surface. The governing coupled nonlinear partial differential equations are transformed into coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations by using a similarity transformation and are solved analytically and numerically by using the homotopy analysis method and the Runge-Kutta and shooting technique, respectively. A comparison between analytical and numerical results is conducted, which shows excellent agreement.  相似文献
