By a ball-covering B of a Banach space X, wemean that B is a collection of open (or closed) balls off the origin whose union contains the unit sphere of X; and X is said to have the ball-covering property provided it admits a ball-covering of countably many balls. This paper shows that universal finite representability and B-convexity of X can be characterized by properties of ball-coverings of its finite dimensional subspaces.  相似文献

By a ball-covering B of a Banach space X, we mean that B is a collection of open (or closed) balls off the origin whose union contains the unit sphere of X; and X is said to have the ball-covering property provided it admits a ball-covering of countably many balls. This paper shows that Gδ property of points in a Banach space X endowed with the ball topology is equivalent to the space X admitting the ball-covering property. Moreover, smoothness, uniform smoothness of X can be characterized by properties of ball-coverings of its finite dimensional subspaces.  相似文献

Let B(X) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on an infinite dimensional complex Banach space X. We characterize linear surjective and continuous maps on B(X) preserving different local spectral quantities at a nonzero fixed vector.  相似文献

Let X be the canonical predual of the Lorentz sequence space and let Au(BX) be the Banach algebra of all complex valued functions defined on the closed unit ball BX of X which are uniformly continuous on BX and holomorphic on the interior of BX, endowed with the sup norm. A characterization of the boundaries for Au(BX) is given in terms of the distance to the strong peak sets of this algebra.  相似文献

We introduce the notion of numerical (strong) peak function and investigate the denseness of the norm and numerical peak functions on complex Banach spaces. Let Ab(BX:X) be the Banach space of all bounded continuous functions f on the unit ball BX of a Banach space X and their restrictions to the open unit ball are holomorphic. In finite dimensional spaces, we show that the intersection of the set of all norm peak functions and the set of all numerical peak functions is a dense Gδ-subset of Ab(BX:X). We also prove that if X is a smooth Banach space with the Radon-Nikodým property, then the set of all numerical strong peak functions is dense in Ab(BX:X). In particular, when X=Lp(μ)(1<p<∞) or X=?1, it is shown that the intersection of the set of all norm strong peak functions and the set of all numerical strong peak functions is a dense Gδ-subset of Ab(BX:X). As an application, the existence and properties of numerical boundary of Ab(BX:X) are studied. Finally, the numerical peak function in Ab(BX:X) is characterized when X=C(K) and some negative results on the denseness of numerical (strong) peak holomorphic functions are given.  相似文献

Assume X is an infinite dimensional F-normed space and let r be a positive number such that the closed ball Br(X) of radius r is properly contained in X. The main aim of this paper is to give examples of regular F-normed ideal spaces in which there is a 1-ball or a (1+ε)-ball contractive retraction of Br(X) onto its boundary with positive lower Hausdorff measure of noncompactness. The examples are based on the abstract results of the paper, obtained under suitable hypotheses on X.  相似文献

Given a normed space X it can be easily proven that every extreme point in B X *, the unit ball of X*, is the restriction of an extreme point in B X ***. Our purpose is to study when the restrictions of extreme points in B X *** are extreme points in B X *. Namely, we characterize L 1-preduals satisfying the aforementioned property.  相似文献

Let X and Y be superreflexive complex Banach spaces and let B(X) and B(Y) be the Banach algebras of all bounded linear operators on X and Y, respectively. If a bijective linear map Φ:B(X)→B(Y) almost preserves the spectra, then it is almost multiplicative or anti-multiplicative. Furthermore, in the case where X=Y is a separable complex Hilbert space, such a map is a small perturbation of an automorphism or an anti-automorphism.  相似文献

Let B(X) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on a complex Banach space X. We give the concrete form of every unital surjective map φ on B(X) such that AB is a non-zero idempotent if and only if φ(A)φ(B) is for all A,BB(X) when the dimension of X is at least 3.  相似文献

In this paper, we give a necessary and sufficient condition that a locally biholomorphic mapping f on the unit ball B in a complex Hilbert space X is a biholomorphic convex mapping, which improves some results of Hamada and Kohr and solves the problem which is posed by Graham and Kohr. From this, we derive some sufficient conditions for biholomorphic convex mapping. We also introduce a linear operator in purpose to construct some concrete examples of biholomorphic convex mappings on B in Hilbert spaces. Moreover, we give some examples of biholomorphic convex mappings on B in Hilbert spaces.  相似文献

For an infinite Hausdorff compact set K and for any Banach space X we show that every nonempty weak open subset relative to the unit ball of the space of X-valued functions that are continuous when X is equipped with the weak (respectively norm, weak-∗) topology has diameter 2. As consequence, we improve known results about nonexistence of denting points in these spaces. Also we characterize when every nonempty weak open subset relative to the unit ball has diameter 2, for the spaces of Bochner integrable and essentially bounded measurable X-valued functions.  相似文献

In this paper, we will use the Schwarz lemma at the boundary to character the distortion theorems of determinant at the extreme points and distortion theorems of matrix on the complex tangent space at the extreme points for normalized locally biholomorphic quasi-convex mappings in the unit ball B n respectively.  相似文献

A general theory of concepts of positive dependence, which are weaker than association but stronger than orthant dependence, is developed. A random vector X is associated if and only if P(X ∈ A ? B) ≥ P(X ∈ A) P(X ∈ B) for all open upper sets A and B. By requiring the above inequality to hold only for some open upper sets A and B various notions of positive dependence which are weaker than association are obtained. First a general theory is given and then the results are specialized to some concepts of a particular interest. Various properties and interrelationships are derived and some applications are discussed.  相似文献

Let B(X) be the algebra of bounded operators on a complex Banach space X. Viewing B(X) as an algebra over R, we study the structure of those irreducible subalgebras which contain nonzero compact operators. In particular, irreducible algebras of trace-class operators with real trace are characterized. This yields an extension of Brauer-type results on matrices to operators in infinite dimensions, answering the question: is an irreducible semigroup of compact operators with real spectra realizable, i.e., simultaneously similar to a semigroup whose matrices are real?  相似文献

Denote by Δ(resp. Δ) the open (resp. closed) unit disc in C. Let E be a closed subset of the unit circle T and let F be a relatively closed subset of T ? E of Lesbesgue measure zero. The following result is proved. Given a complex Banach space X and a bounded continuous function f:FX, there exists an extension f? of f, bounded and continuous on \?gD ? E, analytic on Δ and satisfying sup{6f?(z)6:zεδ?E. This is applied to show that for any separable complex Banach space X there exists an analytic function from Δ to X whose range is contained and dense in the unit ball of X.  相似文献

By a ball-covering B of a Banach space X, we mean that B is a collection of open (or closed) balls off the origin whose union contains the unit sphere SX of X; and X is said to have the ball-covering property (BCP) provided it admits a ball-covering by countably many balls. In this note we give a natural example showing that the ball-covering property of a Banach space is not inherited by its subspaces; and we present a sharp quantitative version of the recent Fonf and Zanco renorming result saying that if the dual X of X is w separable, then for every ε>0 there exist a (1+ε)-equivalent norm on X, and an R>0 such that in this new norm SX admits a ball-covering by countably many balls of radius R. Namely, we show that R=R(ε) can be taken arbitrarily close to (1+ε)/ε, and that for X=?1[0,1] the corresponding R cannot be equal to 1/ε. This gives the sharp order of magnitude for R(ε) as ε→0.  相似文献

For a smooth projective surface X the finite dimensionality of the Chow motive h(X), as conjectured by Kimura, has several geometric consequences. For a complex surface of general type with p g = 0 it is equivalent to Bloch’s conjecture. The conjecture is still open for a K3 surface X which is not a Kummer surface. In this paper we prove some results on Kimura’s conjecture for complex K3 surfaces. If X has a large Picard number ρ = ρ(X), i.e. ρ = 19,20, then the motive of X is finite dimensional. If X has a non-symplectic group acting trivially on algebraic cycles then the motive of X is finite dimensional. If X has a symplectic involution i, i.e. a Nikulin involution, then the finite dimensionality of h(X) implies ${h(X) \simeq h(Y)}$ , where Y is a desingularization of the quotient surface ${X/\langle i \rangle }$ . We give several examples of K3 surfaces with a Nikulin involution such that the isomorphism ${h(X) \simeq h(Y)}$ holds, so giving some evidence to Kimura’s conjecture in this case.  相似文献

Let B1, B2, ... be a sequence of independent, identically distributed random variables, letX0 be a random variable that is independent ofBn forn?1, let ρ be a constant such that 0<ρ<1 and letX1,X2, ... be another sequence of random variables that are defined recursively by the relationshipsXnXn-1+Bn. It can be shown that the sequence of random variablesX1,X2, ... converges in law to a random variableX if and only ifE[log+¦B1¦]<∞. In this paper we let {B(t):0≦t<∞} be a stochastic process with independent, homogeneous increments and define another stochastic process {X(t):0?t<∞} that stands in the same relationship to the stochastic process {B(t):0?t<∞} as the sequence of random variablesX1,X2,...stands toB1,B2,.... It is shown thatX(t) converges in law to a random variableX ast →+∞ if and only ifE[log+¦B(1)¦]<∞ in which caseX has a distribution function of class L. Several other related results are obtained. The main analytical tool used to obtain these results is a theorem of Lukacs concerning characteristic functions of certain stochastic integrals.  相似文献
