In this paper we deal with the main multiserver retrial queue of M/M/c type with exponential repeated attempts. This model is known to be analytically intractable due to the spatial heterogeneity of the underlying Markov chain, caused by the retrial feature. For this reason several models have been proposed for approximating its stationary distribution, that lead to satisfactory numerical implementations. This paper extends these studies by developing efficient algorithmic procedures for calculating the busy period distribution of the main approximation models of Wilkinson [Wilkinson, R.I., 1956. Theories for toll traffic engineering in the USA, The Bell System Technical Journal 35, 421–514], Falin [Falin, G.I., 1983. Calculations of probability characteristics of a multiline system with repeated calls, Moscow University Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics 1, 43–49] and Neuts and Rao [Neuts, M.F., Rao, B.M., 1990. Numerical investigation of a multiserver retrial model, Queueing Systems 7, 169–190]. Moreover, we develop stable recursive schemes for the computation of the busy period moments. The corresponding distributions for the total number of customers served during a busy period are also studied. Several numerical results illustrate the efficiency of the methods and reveal interesting facts concerning the behavior of the M/M/c retrial queue.  相似文献

Recently, Grabner et al. [Combinatorics of geometrically distributed random variables: run statistics, Theoret. Comput. Sci. 297 (2003) 261-270] and Louchard and Prodinger [Ascending runs of sequences of geometrically distributed random variables: a probabilistic analysis, Theoret. Comput. Sci. 304 (2003) 59-86] considered the run statistics of geometrically distributed independent random variables. They investigated the asymptotic properties of the number of runs and the longest run using the corresponding probability generating functions and a Markov chain approach. In this note, we reconsider the asymptotic properties of such statistics using another approach. Our approach of finding the asymptotic distributions is based on the construction of runs in a sequence of m-dependent random variables. This approach enables us to find the asymptotic distributions of many run statistics via the theorems established for m-dependent sequence of random variables. We also provide the asymptotic distribution of the total number of non-decreasing runs and the longest non-decreasing run.  相似文献

In this paper, we give some properties of the zeros of d-symmetric d-orthogonal polynomials and we localize these zeros on (d+1) rays emanating from the origin. We apply the obtained results to some known polynomials. In particular, we partially solve the conjecture about the zeros of the Humbert polynomials stated by Milovanovi? and Dordevi? [G.V. Milovanovi?, G.B. Dordevi?, On some properties of Humbert's polynomials, II, Ser. Math. Inform. 6 (1991) 23-30]. A study of the eigenvalues of a particular banded Hessenberg matrix is done.  相似文献

We study a GI/M/1 queue with an N threshold policy. In this system, the server stops attending the queue when the system becomes empty and resumes serving the queue when the number of customers reaches a threshold value N. Using the embeded Markov chain method, we obtain the stationary distributions of queue length and waiting time and prove the stochastic decomposition properties.  相似文献

For each the nth Laguerre polynomial has an m-fold zero at the origin when α=−m. As the real variable α→−m, it has m simple complex zeros which approach 0 in a symmetric way. This symmetry leads to a finite value for the limit of the sum of the reciprocals of these zeros. In a recent contribution [N.M. Atakishiyev, A.U. Klimyk, On discrete q-ultraspherical polynomials and their duals, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 306 (2005) 637-645], the so-named discrete q-ultraspherical polynomials were introduced as a specialization of the big q-Jacobi polynomials, and their orthogonality established for values of the parameter outside its commonly known domain but inside the range of validity of the conditions of Favard's theorem. In this paper we consider both the continuous and the discrete q-ultraspherical polynomials and we prove that their orthogonality is guaranteed for the whole range of the allowed parameters, even in those intriguing cases in which the three term recurrence relation breaks down. The presence of either the Askey-Wilson divided difference operator (in the continuous case), or the q-derivative operator (in the discrete one), provides the q-Sobolev character of the non-standard inner products introduced in our approach.  相似文献

We study random surfaces constructed by glueing together N/k filled k‐gons along their edges, with all (N ? 1)!! = (N ? 1)(N ? 3)···3 · 1 pairings of the edges being equally likely. (We assume that lcm{2,k} divides N.) The Euler characteristic of the resulting surface is related to the number of cycles in a certain random permutation of {1,…,N}. Gamburd has shown that when 2 lcm{2,k} divides N, the distribution of this random permutation converges to that of the uniform distribution on the alternating group AN in the total‐variation distance as N → ∞. We obtain large‐deviations bounds for the number of cycles that, together with Gamburd's (Ann Probab 34 (2006), 1827–1848) result, allow us to derive sharp estimates for the moments of the number of cycles. These estimates allow us to confirm certain cases of conjectures made by Pippenger and Schleich (Random Struct Algorithm 28 (2006), 247–288). © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Random Struct. In the present paper we propose the q analogue of the modified Beta operators. We apply q-derivatives to obtain the central moments of the discrete q-Beta operators. A direct result in terms of modulus of continuity for the q operators is also established. We have also used the properties of q integral to establish the recurrence formula for the moments of q analogue of the modified Beta operators. We also establish an asymptotic formula.
