We theoretically investigate the optical bistability (OB) in a V-type three-level atomic system confined in a unidirectional ring cavity via incoherent pumping field. It is shown that the threshold of optical bistability can be controlled by the rate of an incoherent pumping field and by interference mechanism arising from the spontaneous emission and incoherent pumping field. We demonstrate that the optical bistability converts to optical multi-stability (OM) by the quantum interference mechanism.  相似文献

Optical bistability for two-level atomic system in a ring cavity is investigated outside the rotating wave approximation (RWA) using non-autonomous Maxwell-Bloch equations with Fourier decomposition up to first harmonic. We investigate the optical bistability(OB) in a duplicated two-level system contained in a ring cavity.The atoms are driven by two orthogonally polarized fields with a relative phase.The OB behavior of such a system can be controlled by the amplitude and the relative phase of the coupling field,and it is possible to switch between bistability and multistability by adjusting the relative phase.  相似文献

The behavior of the optical bistability (OB) is investigated in an optical system which consists of a four-level atomic system with a microwave drive field and an optical cavity. It is found that the optical bistability can be accomplished by adjusting different physical parameters in both steady and transient process. Due to the existence of the microwave drive field, the optical bistability can be also obtained even under weak coherent coupling field condition. Since the intensity and phase of microwave drive field can be conveniently modulated, this optical system provides a new experimental method to test the optical bistability theory.  相似文献

We analyze the behavior of optical bistability in a four-level mercury atomic system driven by a cavity and two external coherent fields by means of a unidirectional ring cavity. We find that without interacting dark resonances and for large intensity of coupling field, the optical bistability disappears. So, the double dark resonances could significantly establish the optical bistability. Moreover, we demonstrate that the double dark resonances can dramatically reduce the threshold of optical bistability.  相似文献

Using an arrangement of highly collimated sodium atomic beams in a Fabry-Perot cavity absorptive optical bistability has been observed. The response of the optically bistable system was investigated on a time scale of the order of 100 times the characteristic time of the cavity. Even so a non steady state behaviour of the system was observed. Good qualitative agreement with the two-level atom mean field radiation theory has been obtained.  相似文献

We investigate the optical bistability (OB) and optical multi-stability (OM) in a four-level N-type atomic system. The effect of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) on OB and OM is then discussed. It is found that SGC makes the medium phase dependent, so the optical bistability and multi-stability threshold can be controlled via relative phase between applied fields. We realize that the frequency detuning of probe and coupling fields with the corresponding atomic transition plays an important role in creation OB and OM. Moreover, the effect of laser coupling fields and an incoherent pumping field on reduction of OB and OM threshold is then discussed.  相似文献

We propose a simple all-optical diode which is comprised of an asymmetric ring cavity containing a two-level atomic ensemble. Attributed to spatial symmetry breaking of the ring cavity, direction-dependent optical bistability is obtained in a classical bistable system. Therefore, a giant optical non-reciprocity is generated, which guarantees an all-optical diode with a high contrast up to 22 d B. Furthermore, its application as an all-optical logic AND gate is also discussed.  相似文献

We consider a suitable set of equations which describe the interaction of the electric field with a system of N two-level atoms contained in a Fabry-Perot and driven by a cw laser beam (optical bistability). The stability of the stationary solutions is analyzed. Instabilities of the self-pulsing type are found only when the bistability parameter C is larger than 60. This shows that, in order to observe self-pulsing, a ring cavity is more suitable than a Fabry-Perot.  相似文献

Scattering of resonant radiation in a dense two-level medium is studied theoretically accounting for local field effects and renormalisation of the resonance frequency. Intrinsic optical bistability is viewed as switching between different spectral patterns of fluorescent light controlled by the incident field strength. Response spectra are calculated analytically for the entire hysteresis loop of atomic excitation. The equations to describe the non-linear interaction of an atomic ensemble with light are derived from the Bogolubov-Born-Green-Kirkwood-Yvon hierarchy for reduced single particle density matrices of atoms and quantised field modes and their correlation operators. The spectral power of scattered light with separated coherent and incoherent constituents is obtained straightforwardly within the hierarchy. The formula obtained for emission spectra can be used to distinguish between possible mechanisms suggested to produce intrinsic bistability in experiments.  相似文献

We investigate the steady-state optical bistability behavior in a three-level Λ-type atomic system closed by a microwave field under the condition that the applied fields are in resonance with corresponding atomic transitions. It is shown that photorefractive wave-mixing gives saturable gain, saturable absorption and Kerr-like nonlinear phase retardation. An analogy between photorefractive two-beam coupling and two-level atom system is then drawn. Modified Bloch equations that describe the interaction of high-power optical radiation with a dense resonance medium consisting of two subsystems of different two-level atoms of high density are obtained. It is shown that, unlike the one-component resonance medium in which the effect of internal optical bistability manifests itself on the red wing of the absorption line, in the two-component system it appears on the blue wing of one component of the system. The switching of the two subsystems from one steady state to another occurs at the same points of rotation of the hysteresis dependence of the population differences of resonance atomic levels on the radiation intensity that varies adiabatically slowly. The influence of the processes of upconversion on the spectral-threshold characteristics of the effect of internal optical bistability is investigated.  相似文献

We investigate the optical bistability behavior of a three-level closed-loop atomic system beyond the multi-photon resonance condition. Using the Floquet decomposition, we solve the time-dependent equations of motion, beyond the multi-photon resonance condition. By identifying the different scattering processes contributing to the medium response, it is shown that in general the optical bistability behavior of the system is not phase-dependent. The phase dependence is due to the scattering of the driving and coupling fields into the probe field at a frequency, which, in general, differs from the probe field frequency.  相似文献

A quantum system consisting of a two-level atom interacting with a single field mode of a high-Qcavity under influence of a coherent pump is considered. The analytical solutions for the P and Q distribution functions are obtained in the limit of large Rabi frequencies. In the presence of thermal photons, the P distribution function loses its property of restriction by the range on the complex plane and becomes an analytical function. When the ratio of the atomic decay rate to the cavity mode damping rate is smaller than 4, the effect of phase bistability appears. Absorptive optical bistability is absent in this case. On the basis of the system of Fokker-Planck equations for the quasi-probabilities corresponding to the atom being on the upper and lower atomic levels, computer simulation of the stochastic trajectory of motion for the system is presented.  相似文献

We report a theoretical study of a quantum optical model consisting of an array of strongly nonlinear cavities incoherently pumped by an ensemble of population-inverted two-level atoms. Projective methods are used to eliminate the atomic dynamics and write a generalized master equation for the photonic degrees of freedom only, where the frequency-dependence of gain introduces non-Markovian features. In the simplest single cavity configuration, this pumping scheme gives novel optical bistability effects and allows for the selective generation of Fock states with a well-defined photon number. For many cavities in a weakly non-Markovian limit, the non-equilibrium steady state recovers a Grand-Canonical statistical ensemble at a temperature determined by the effective atomic linewidth. For a two-cavity system in the strongly nonlinear regime, signatures of a Mott state with one photon per cavity are found.  相似文献

考虑原子的相干性和经典注入光场,利用随机微分方程给出非锁相条件下的Lorenz-Haken方程,研究失谐量、注入经典光场和原子相干性对非锁相Lorenz-Haken方程动力学特性的影响.在激光运转情形,失谐量造成光场位相的混沌,系统在不同条件下,出现四吸引子、双吸引子及单吸引子混沌状态,且体系的分数维维数较锁相条件下增加.光场失谐量、注入光场和原子相干性可抑制混沌.在双稳态运转下,光场位相为π的偶数倍或奇数倍,使光场稳定于正值和负值,故体系出现对称双稳态对,但无混沌状态. 关键词: 非锁相Lorenz-Haken方程 混沌 原子相干性 注入光场  相似文献
