Bremsstrahlung of unpolarized electrons is analysed for information on neutral weak interactions. The coupling of axial lepton and polar hadron neutral currents should cause a circular polarization of about 10?6 at electron and photon energies of a few hundred MeV and forward angles. General cross-sections are given for annihilation via one photon and W0 exchange. Effects of the W0 in the special cases e+e?μ+μ? and pp→?+?? at high energies are discussed. These effects are estimated to be comparable to the effects from one γ exchange at energies accesible in NAL and SPS.  相似文献

We present the result of our most recent search for T violation in 205Tl, which is interpreted in terms of an electric dipole moment of the electron d(e). We find d(e) = (6.9 +/- 7.4)x10(-28)e cm, which yields an upper limit /d(e)/ < or = 1.6x10(-27)e cm with 90% confidence. The present apparatus is a major upgrade of the atomic beam magnetic-resonance device used to set the previous limit on d(e).  相似文献

We consider a new approach to the analysis of a thin electric dipole. The approach, which is unconventional in antenna theory, is based directly on the Maxwell equations written in the cylindrical coordinate system. This allows one to reduce the problem to an integral equation instead of an integro-differential equation. Another feature of our treatment is the use of the theory of singular integral equations (SIEs) developed previously for SHF and EHF slotted-strip structures. The problem is reduced to solving the SIE for the derivative of the surface-current density on the dipole with respect to the longitudinal coordinate. Using the algebra of light-cone commutators and making some simplifying assumptions, we have attempted to determine the isospin structure of a two-parameter weak hadronic neutral current. We have also computed in the light-cone model, they distributions for inclusive neutrino and antineutrino neutral current deep-inelastic interactions. It is shown via a series of numerical tests on the camphor molecule, C10H16O, that the naturally occurring d-enantiomer is energetically stabilized with respect to its mirror image by electroweak force. The calculated energy difference between enantiomers, about 1.5 x 10(-19) hartree, is roughly eight orders of magnitude smaller than the upper bound suggested by available spectroscopic investigations on the frequency of a spectroscopic transition. However, such a difference is about ten times larger than previous estimates of parity-violating energy contributions reported in the literature for other chiral molecules, which makes the idea of electroweak stabilization of one enantiomer more reliable than expected before.  相似文献

We have derived and investigated analytical expressions for the cross sections and spin asymmetries in the elastic electromagnetic and electroweak scattering of unpolarized/longitudinally polarized electrons on a polarized/unpolarized proton target with allowance for the C-, P-, and T/CP-invariance violating anapole and electric dipole moments, as well as the neutral weak electric, magnetic, and axial form factors of the proton. The dependence of the spin asymmetries on the energy and form-factor parameters is studied.  相似文献

An experimental search for an electric dipole moment (EDM) of the neutron has been carried out at the Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble. Spurious signals from magnetic-field fluctuations were reduced to insignificance by the use of a cohabiting atomic-mercury magnetometer. Systematic uncertainties, including geometric-phase-induced false EDMs, have been carefully studied. The results may be interpreted as an upper limit on the neutron EDM of |d(n)|< 2.9 x 10(-26)e cm (90% C.L.).  相似文献

We present the first results of a new search for a permanent electric dipole moment of the 199Hg atom using a UV laser. Our measurements give d(199Hg) = -(1.06+/-0.49+/-0.40)x10(-28)e cm. We interpret the result as an upper limit absolute value [d(199Hg)]<2.1x10(-28)e cm (95% C.L.), which sets new constraints on theta bar;(QCD), chromo-EDMs of the quarks, and CP violation in supersymmetric models.  相似文献

We report a new measurement of the neutron electric dipole moment with the PNPI EDM spectrometer using the ultracold neutron source PF2 at the research reactor of the ILL. The effects of neutral weak currents are discussed in e+e? annihilation into final states such as μ+μ?, e+e?, π+π?, many hadrons and also in the one particle inclusive production. According to current gauge models these weak effects which are manifested as various asymmetries, turn out to be around 10% in the energy range of PEP and PETRA. In identifying weak effects polarized incident beams are advantageous, in particular, the longitudinally polarized beams select parity violating asymmetries.  相似文献

Loading a dipole trap from an atomic reservoir is considered to be an efficient method for the preparation of trapped atoms at high density, which has led to notable results for the case of Rb and Cr atoms. It was also theoretically predicted to provide efficient loading also in the cesium case. In this article, we report on the experimental study of the loading of a single-arm and of a crossed dipole trap for cesium atoms. This study is performed by comparing several types of reservoirs from which the atoms are loaded: a magnetic trap, a Dark-SPOT and a compressed MOT. In all cases the number of atoms is found to decrease shortly after the beginning of the loading process. A few possible phenomena leading to such a behavior, namely the limited reservoir lifetime and/or a possible heating in the reservoir, are discussed. The loading dynamics is fitted by a phenomenological rate equation. From an experimental point of view, the reservoir loading method can be considered efficient in terms of number of transferred atoms for the single arm dipole trap. On the contrary, it does not seem to provide, for the case of cesium atoms in a crossed dipole trap, an attractive alternative in comparison with existing loading methods such as Raman sideband cooling.  相似文献
