In the numerical treatment of integral equations of the first kind using boundary element methods (BEM), the author and E. P. Stephan have derived a posteriori error estimates as tools for both reliable computation and self-adaptive mesh refinement. So far, efficiency of those a posteriori error estimates has been indicated by numerical examples in model situations only. This work affirms efficiency by proving the reverse inequality. Based on best approximation, on inverse inequalities and on stability of the discretization, and complementary to our previous work, an abstract approach yields a converse estimate. This estimate proves efficiency of an a posteriori error estimate in the BEM on quasi--uniform meshes for Symm's integral equation, for a hypersingular equation, and for a transmission problem.

In this paper we consider the scattering of an electromagnetic time-harmonic plane wave by an infinite cylinder having an open arc and a bounded domain in R2 as cross section. To this end, we solve a scattering problem for the Helmholtz equation in R2 where the scattering object is a combination of a crack Γ and a bounded obstacle D, and we have Dirichlet-impedance type boundary condition on Γ and Dirichlet boundary condition on ∂D (∂DC2). Applying potential theory, the problem can be reformulated as a boundary integral system. We establish the existence and uniqueness of a solution to the system by using the Fredholm theory.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the indentation of an elastic half-space by an axisymmetric punch under a monotonically applied normal force and under the assumption of Coulomb friction with coefficient μμ in the region of contact. Within an inner (unknown) circle the contact is adhesive, while in the surrounding annulus the surface moves inwards with increasing load. In this paper it is shown how this problem is equivalent to two coupled Abel's equations with an unknown free point, the inner circumference of the annulus. It is further shown that a product integration finite difference approximation of those integral equations leads to a mixed linear complementarity problem (mixed LCP). A method based on Newton's method for solving non-smooth nonlinear equations is demonstrated to converge under restrictive assumptions on the physical parameters defining the system; and numerical experimentation verifies that it has much wider applicability. The method is also validated against the approach of Spence. The advantage of the mixed LCP formulation is that it provides the radius of the inner adhesive circle directly using the physical parameters of the problem.  相似文献

In this article, we consider some properties of positive solutions for a new conformable integro-differential equation with integral boundary conditions and a parameter $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{l} T_{\alpha}u(t)+\lambda f(t,u(t),I_{\alpha}u(t))=0,t\in[0,1],\u(0)=0,u(1)=\beta\int_{0}^{1}u(t)dt ,\beta\in[\frac 32,2), \ \end{array}\right.\nonumber $$ where $\alpha\in(1,2]$, $\lambda$ is a positive parameter, $T_{\alpha}$ is the usual conformable derivative and $I_{\alpha}$ is the conformable integral, $f:[0,1]\times\mathbf{R^{+}}\times\mathbf{R^{+}}\rightarrow \mathbf{R^{+}} $ is a continuous function, where $\mathbf{R^{+}}=[0,+\infty)$. We use a recent fixed point theorem for monotone operators in ordered Banach spaces, and then establish the existence and uniqueness of positive solutions for the boundary value problem. Further, we give an iterative sequence to approximate the unique positive solution and some good properties of positive solution about the parameter $\lambda$. We consider a nonlocal problem with integral conditions for a system of hyperbolic equations in rectangular domain. We investigate the questions of existence of unique classical solution to the problemunder consideration and approaches of its construction. Sufficient conditions of unique solvability to the investigated problem are established in the terms of initial data. The nonlocal problem with integral conditions is reduced to an equivalent problem consisting of the Goursat problem for the system of hyperbolic equations with functional parameters and functional relations. We propose algorithms for finding a solution to the equivalent problem with functional parameters on the characteristics and prove their convergence. We also obtain the conditions of unique solvability to the auxiliary boundary-value problem with an integral condition for the system of ordinary differential equations. As an example, we consider the nonlocal boundary-value problem with integral conditions for a two-dimensional system of hyperbolic equations.  相似文献

In this paper, we reduce the classical two-dimensional transmission problem in acoustic scattering to a system of coupled boundary integral equations (BIEs), and consider the weak formulation of the resulting equations. Uniqueness and existence results for the weak solution of corresponding variational equations are established. In contrast to the coupled system in Costabel and Stephan (1985) [4], we need to take into account exceptional frequencies to obtain the unique solvability. Boundary element methods (BEM) based on both the standard and a two-level fast multipole Galerkin schemes are employed to compute the solution of the variational equation. Numerical results are presented to verify the efficiency and accuracy of the numerical methods.  相似文献
