A novel process comprising the UV‐induced photografting of styrene into poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) films and subsequent sulfonation has been developed for preparing proton‐conducting membranes. Although under UV irradiation the initial radicals were mainly generated on the surface of the PTFE films by the action of photosensitizers such as xanthone and benzoyl peroxide, the graft chains were readily propagated into the PTFE films. The sulfonation of the grafted films was performed in a chlorosulfonic acid solution. Fourier transform infrared and scanning electron microscopy were used to characterize the grafted and sulfonated membranes. With a view to use in fuel cells, the proton conductivity, water uptake, and mechanical properties of the prepared membranes were measured. Even through the degree of grafting was lower than 10%, the proton conductivity in the thickness direction of the newly prepared membranes could reach a value similar to that of a Nafion membrane. In comparison with γ‐ray radiation grafting, UV‐induced photografting is very simple and safe and is less damaging to the membranes because significant degradation of the PTFE main chains can be avoided. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of poly(L ‐lysine)s grafted with aliphatic polyesters, poly(L ‐lysine)‐graft‐poly(L ‐lactide) (PLy‐g‐PLLA) and poly(L ‐lysine)‐graft‐poly(?‐caprolactone) (PLy‐ g‐PCL), were synthesized through the Michael addition of poly(L ‐lysine) and maleimido‐terminated poly(L ‐lactide) or poly(?‐caprolactone). The graft density of the polyesters could be adjusted by the variation of the feed ratio of poly(L ‐lysine) to the maleimido‐terminated polyesters. IR spectra of PLy‐g‐PCL showed that the graft copolymers adopted an α‐helix conformation in the solid state. Differential scanning calorimetry measurements of the two kinds of graft copolymers indicated that the glass transition temperature of PLy‐g‐PLLA and the melting temperature of PLy‐g‐PCL increased with the increasing graft density of the polyesters on the backbone of poly(L ‐lysine). Circular dichroism analysis of PLy‐g‐PCL in water demonstrated that the graft copolymer existed in a random‐coil conformation at pH 6 and as an α‐helix at pH 9. In addition, PLy‐g‐PCL was found to form micelles to vesicles in an aqueous medium with the increasing graft density of poly(?‐caprolactone). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined peptide‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (Pep‐PCL) biohybrids were successfully synthesized by grafting‐from ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone (CL) using designed amine‐terminated sequence‐defined peptides as macroinitiators. MALDI‐TOF‐MS and 1H NMR analyses confirmed the successful attachment of peptide to the PCL chain. The gel permeation chromatography (GPC) measurement showed that the Pep‐PCL biohybrids with controllable molecular weights and low polydispersities (PDI <1.5) were obtained by this approach. The aggregation of Pep‐PCL hybrid molecules in THF solution resulted in the formation of micro/nanospheres as confirmed through FESEM, TEM, and DLS analyses. The circular dichroism study revealed that the secondary structure of peptide moiety was changed in the peptide‐PCL biohybrids. The crystallization and melting behavior of Pep‐PCL hybrids were somewhat changed compared with that of neat PCL of comparable molecular weight as revealed by DSC and XRD measurements. In Pep‐PCL biohybrids, extinction rings were observed in the PCL spherulites, in contrast with the normal spherulite morphology of the neat PCL. There was a substantial decrease (4–5 folds) in the spherulitic growth rate after the incorporation of peptide moiety at the end of PCL chain as measured by polarizing optical microscopy. Pseudomonas lipase catalyzed enzymatic degradation was studied for Pep‐PCL hybrids and neat PCL. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

Biodegradable polyester resins were prepared via photo crosslinking of functional polyesters obtained by copolymerization of ε‐caprolactone and the functional cyclic esters γ‐acryloyloxy‐ε‐caprolactone (ACL) and γ‐methacryloyloxy‐ε‐caprolactone (MCL). The cyclic esters were prepared via Baeyer‐Villiger oxidation of the corresponding 4‐acyloyloxy‐cyclohexanone derivatives. Copolymers with different content of either acryloyloxy or methacryloyloxy functional groups were prepared via catalyzed ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of γ‐acyloyloxy‐ε‐caprolactones and ε‐caprolactone using Al(OiPr)3 as catalyst and initiator. 2D‐ and 3D‐micropatterning of the copolymers was performed via UV‐crosslinking of polymer films on a suitable substrate and by UV replica molding on both rigid and elastic masters, showing the processability of these novel functional polyesters and their potential as substrates for biomedical devices. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel biodegradable network polyesters were prepared from multifunctional aromatic carboxylic acids [trimesic acid (Y), pyromellic acid (X), and mellic acid (YM)] and poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL) diols with molecular weights of 530, 1250, and 2000. Prepolymers prepared by a melt polycondensation method were cast from dimethylformamide solutions and postpolymerized at 220 °C for various times to form a network. The resultant films were transparent, flexible, and insoluble in organic solvents. The network polyesters obtained were characterized by infrared absorption spectra, wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction analysis, density measurements, differential scanning calorimetry, thermomechanical analysis, and tensile testing. Some network polyester films, including YPCL1250, XPCL1250, and YMPCL2000, showed elastomeric properties with high ultimate elongation and low tensile modulus. The enzymatic degradation was measured by the weight loss of the network polyester films in a buffer solution with Rhizopus delemar lipase at 37 °C. The degree and rate of degradation increased with the increasing molecular weight of the PCL diols, but they decreased in the order of YPCL > XPCL > YMPCL because of the increase in the crosslinking densities of the network films. The degraded products after enzymatic degradation showed that the ester linkage of the PCL component and the aromatic ester linkage between Y and PCL diols were hydrolyzed. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Biodegradable and biocompatible PCL‐g‐PEG amphiphilic graft copolymers were prepared by combination of ROP and “click” chemistry via “graft onto” method under mild conditions. First, chloro‐functionalized poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL‐Cl) was synthesized by the ring‐opening copolymerization of ε‐caprolactone (CL) and α‐chloro‐ε‐caprolactone (CCL) employing scandium triflate as high‐efficient catalyst with near 100% monomer conversion. Second, the chloro groups of PCL‐Cl were quantitatively converted into azide form by NaN3. Finally, copper(I)‐catalyzed cycloaddition reaction was carried out between azide‐functionalized PCL (PCL‐N3) and alkyne‐terminated poly(ethylene glycol) (A‐PEG) to give PCL‐g‐PEG amphiphilic graft copolymers. The composition and the graft architecture of the copolymers were characterized by 1H NMR, FTIR, and GPC analyses. These amphiphilic graft copolymers could self‐assemble into sphere‐like aggregates in aqueous solution with diverse diameters, which decreased with the increasing of grafting density. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Alkylene‐ and arylene‐bridged cyclolinear polycarbosilanes (CLPCS) with 1,3‐disilacyclobutane (DSCB) rings incorporated in the main chain of the polymer were prepared by polycondensation between corresponding di‐functional DSCB derivatives and di‐Grignard reagents. Well‐defined, low molecular weight (Mn = 3–5K; DP = 17–26), hexylene‐ and phenylene‐bridged CLPCS polymers were obtained without appreciable ring opening of the DSCB rings. Large exothermic peaks were observed in the DSC for these CLPCSs, which indicated, along with the IR spectra, that crosslinking occurred on heating to about 250 °C via the ring opening of the embedded, alternating, DSCB rings. Moreover, PB‐CLPCS undergoes photochemically induced crosslinking on UV irradiation to form crosslinked polycarbosilane network films. The spin‐cast, cured, films of these CLPCSs exhibit relatively low dielectric constants and promising thermal and mechanical properties for applications in electronics, for example, directly UV‐photoimprinted low‐k dielectrics. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Free radicals generated from UV irradiation of simple aliphatic amides in anaerobic and nitric oxide (NO)‐saturated liquid mixtures or solutions gave EPR spectra of nitroxides. The application of isotopic effects to EPR spectra and the generation of radicals by transient radical attack on substrate molecules or by photolysing amine or acetoin were used to help identify photochemically produced radicals from the amides. The aliphatic amides used were formamide, acetamide and their N‐methyl‐ or deuterium‐substituted derivatives. Transient radicals used to attack the amides via hydrogen‐atom abstraction were generated from the initiator AIBN or AAPH. The observation of various nitroxides indicates the reactivity of NO for trapping acyl, carbamoyl and other carbon‐centered radicals. Possibly mechanistic pathways diagnosed with this trap are proposed. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The structures of two radiation‐induced radicals in solid‐state α‐D ‐glucose have been identified by means of single‐molecule density function theory (DFT) calculations. Using the original crystalline structure as input, several radical models were created and their geometries optimized. Subsequently, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) parameters were calculated. During these calculations, the global orientation of the radical structure was kept fixed with respect to the crystal axes reference frame. This was essential to allow for an easy analysis of the hyperfine tensor principal directions, besides the isotropic and anisotropic coupling constants. By comparing these calculated EPR parameters with their experimentally determined counterparts, a plausible identification of two carbon‐centered glucose radicals was possible. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effects of crystallinity and temperature on enzymatic degradation of poly‐ε‐caprolactone (PCL) films and structural changes after degradation have been studied using weight loss, differential scanning calorimetry, and optical microscopy. The weight loss during the enzymatic degradation of PCL suggested that the extent of biodegradation and the rate of degradation strongly depend on the initial crystallinity. PCL films of lower crystallinity (24%) degraded much faster than films of higher crystallinity (45%). The crystallinity of low‐crystalline PCL films increased with increasing degradation time, whereas the crystallinity of high‐crystalline PCL films decreased with time. The spherulite size increased with increasing degradation time for low‐crystalline samples but decreased with time for high‐crystalline samples. These results revealed that degradation occurs first in the amorphous region where the degradation rate is much higher, and the crystalline region of the PCL film started to degrade simultaneously for those PCL with higher crystallinity. The enzymatic degradation of PCL proceeded from the free amorphous to restricted amorphous followed by lamellar edges, where PCL chains have higher mobility irrespective of hydrolysis temperature. Caproic acid was identified as the primary product formed after degradation and confirmed by proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, suggesting that degradation occurs through the depolymerization mechanism. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel amphiphilic branch‐ring‐branch tadpole‐shaped [linear‐poly(ε‐caprolactone)]‐b‐[cyclic‐poly(ethylene oxide)]‐b‐[linear‐poly(ε‐caprolactone)] [(l‐PCL)‐b‐(c‐PEO)‐b‐(l‐PCL)] was synthesized by combination of glaser coupling reaction with ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) mechanism. The self‐assembling behaviors of (l‐PCL)‐b‐(c‐PEO)‐b‐(l‐PCL) and their π‐shaped analogs of poly(ε‐caprolactone)/poly(ethylene oxide)]‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐[poly(ε‐caprolactone)/poly(ethylene oxide) with comparable molecular weight in water were preliminarily investigated. The results showed that the micelles formed from the former took a fiber look, however, that formed from the latter took a spherical look. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the coating of maghemite (γ‐Fe2O3) nanoparticles with poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) through a covalent grafting to technique. ω‐Hydroxy‐PCL was first synthesized by the ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone with aluminum isopropoxide and benzyl alcohol as a catalytic system. The hydroxy end groups of PCL were then derivatized with 3‐isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane in the presence of tetraoctyltin. The triethoxysilane‐functionalized PCL macromolecules were finally allowed to react on the surface of maghemite nanoparticles. The composite nanoparticles were characterized by diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT) spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Effects of the polymer molar mass and concentration on the amount of polymer grafted to the surface were investigated. Typical grafting densities up to 3 μmol of polymer chains per m2 of maghemite surface were obtained with this grafting to technique. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microstructured surfaces have great potentials to improve the performances and efficiency of optoelectronic devices. In this work, a simple robust approach based on surface instabilities was presented to fabricate poly(3‐hexylthiophene‐2,5‐diyl) (P3HT) films with ridge‐like/wrinkled composite microstructures. Namely, the hierarchically patterned films were prepared by spin coating the P3HT/tetrahydrofuran (THF) solution on a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate to form stable ridge‐like structures, followed by solvent vapor swelling to create surface wrinkles with the orientation guided by the ridge‐like structures. During spin coating of the P3HT/THF solution, the ridge‐like structures were generated by the in‐situ template of the THF swelling‐induced creasing structures on the PDMS substrate. To our knowledge, it is the first report that the creasing structures are used as a recoverable template for patterning films. The crease‐templated ridge‐like structures were well modulated by the THF swelling time, the modulus of the PDMS substrate, the P3HT/THF solution concentration and the selective/blanket exposure of the PDMS substrate to O2 plasma. UV–vis and fluorescence spectrometry measurements indicated that the light absorption and fluorescent emission were improved on the hierarchically patterned P3HT films, which can be utilized to enhance the efficiencies of organic solar cells. Furthermore, this simple versatile method based on the solvent swelling‐induced crease as the in‐situ recoverable template has been extended to pattern other spin‐coated films with different compositions. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The light‐responsive behavior in solution and in thin films of block copolymers bearing 2‐nitrobenzyl photocleavable esters as side groups is discussed in this article. The polymers were synthesized by grafting 2‐nitrobenzyl moieties onto poly(acrylic acid)‐block‐polystyrene (PAA‐b‐PS) precursor polymers, leading to poly(2‐nitrobenzyl acrylate‐random‐acrylic acid)‐block‐polystyrene (P(NBA‐r‐AA)‐b‐PS) block copolymers. The UV irradiation of the block copolymers in a selective solvent for PS led to the formation of micelles that were used to trap hydrophilic molecules inside their core (light‐induced encapsulation). In addition, thin films consisting of light‐responsive P(NBA‐r‐AA) cylinders surrounded by a PS matrix were achieved by the self‐assembly of P(NBA‐r‐AA)‐b‐PS copolymers onto silicon substrates. Exposing these films to UV irradiation generates nanostructured materials containing carboxylic acids inside the cylindrical nanodomains. The availability of these chemical functions was demonstrated by reacting them with a functional fluorescent dye. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

Dumbbell‐shaped isobutyl‐substituted 1,2‐bis(4‐vinylphenyl)acetylene‐linked POSS (DA1), 9,10‐bis(4‐vinylphenyl)ethynyl)anthracene‐linked POSS (DA2), and 5,5″‐bis((4‐vinyl)phenyl)ethynyl)‐2,2′:5′2″‐terthiophene‐linked POSS (DA3), and corresponding model compounds were synthesized by cross metathesis and Sonogashira reaction, and their film formability, and thermal and optical properties were examined. The dumbbell structures of the obtained compounds were confirmed by 1H‐, 13C‐, and 29Si‐NMR and MALDI‐TOF‐MS analysis. The dumbbell‐shaped POSS compounds gave optically transparent films. All the model compounds, however, formed opaque films. All the films were emissive under UV irradiation. The dumbbell structures minimize longer wavelength shifts and improve emission efficiency of the luminescent π‐conjugated linker units in their solid states compared with the model compounds. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In general, the complexation and gelation behavior between biocompatible poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) derivatives and α‐cyclodextrin (α‐CD) is extensively studied in water, but not in organic solvents. In this article, the complexation and gelation behavior between α‐CD and multi‐arm polymer β‐cyclodextrin‐PCL (β‐CD‐PCL) with a unique “jellyfish‐like” structure are thoroughly investigated in organic solvent N,N‐dimethylformamide and a new heat‐induced organogel is obtained. However, PCL linear polymers cannot form organogels under the same condition. The complexation is characterized by rheological measurements, DSC, XRD, and SEM. The SEM images reveal that the complexes between β‐CD‐PCL and α‐CD present a novel topological helix porous structure which is distinctly different from the lamellar structure formed by PCL linear polymers and α‐CD, suggesting the unique “jellyfish‐like” structure of β‐CD‐PCL is crucial for the formation of the organogels. This research may provide insight into constructing new supramolecular organogels and potential for designing new functional biomaterials. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. A novel method is proposed to access to new poly(α‐amino‐ε‐caprolactone‐co‐ε‐caprolactone) using poly(α‐iodo‐ε‐caprolactone‐co‐ε‐caprolactone) as polymeric substrate. First, ring‐opening (co)polymerizations of α‐iodo‐ε‐caprolactone (αIεCL) with ε‐caprolactone (εCL) are performed using tin 2‐ethylhexanoate (Sn(Oct)2) as catalyst. (Co)polymers are fully characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FTIR, SEC, DSC, and TGA. Then, these iodinated polyesters are used as polymeric substrates to access to poly(α‐amino‐ε‐caprolactone‐co‐ε‐caprolactone) by two different strategies. The first one is the reaction of poly(αIεCL‐co‐εCL) with ammonia, the second one is the reduction of poly(αN3εCL‐co‐εCL) by hydrogenolysis. This poly(α‐amino‐ε‐caprolactone‐co‐ε‐caprolactone) (FαNH2εCL < 0.1) opens the way to new cationic and water‐soluble PCL‐based degradable polyesters. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 1,4‐Phenylene bis(acrylic acid) is a thermally stable diacid, which can be incorporated into polyesters. The phenylene bisacrylate structural units undergo rapid photochemical reaction in the solid state to form crosslinks. This constitutes a feasible approach to polyesters, which can be photochemically thermoset after fabrication as films and fibers. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. We report the synthesis of linear‐ and brush‐type poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL) networks and investigate their thermal, mechanical, and shape memory behavior. Brush‐PCLs are prepared by ring‐opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of a norbornenyl‐functionalized ?‐caprolactone macromonomer (MM‐PCL) of different molecular weights. The linear analog, diacrylate end‐functionalized PCL (linear‐PCL), having comparable molecular weight of side chain of brush‐PCL is also synthesized. These polymers are thermally cured by a radical initiator in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate crosslinker. Thermal and linear viscoelastic properties as well as shape memory performance of the resulting PCL networks are investigated, and are significantly impacted by the PCL architecture. Therefore, our work highlights that tailoring macromolecular architecture is useful strategy to manipulate thermal, mechanical, and resulting shape memory properties. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The intermolecular hydrogen‐bonding interaction and miscibility between enzymatically prepared novel polyphenols [poly(bisphenol A) and poly(ptert‐butyl phenol)] and poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) were investigated as a function of composition by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and DSC. The blend films of PCL and polyphenols were prepared by casting polymer solution. The FTIR spectra clearly indicated that PCL and polyphenols interact through strong intermolecular hydrogen bonds formed between the PCL carbonyls and the polyphenol hydroxyl groups. The melting point and degree of crystallinity of the PCL component decreased with an increased polyphenol content. A single glass‐transition temperature was observed for the blend, and its value increased with the content of polyphenol, indicating that PCL and polyphenols are miscible in the amorphous state. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
