The volume phase transition of nonionic hydrogels was controlled with a very small amount of variation (pinpoint variation) of the side chains far from the main chain. The copolymer hydrogels poly(methacryloyl‐alanine methyl ester‐co‐methacryloyl‐alanine ethyl ester) [poly(MA‐Ala‐OMe‐co‐MA‐Ala‐OEt)] and poly(methacryloyl‐alanine alkylamide‐co‐methacryloyl‐alanine ethyl ester) [poly(MA‐Ala‐NR2co‐MA‐Ala‐OEt)] were studied to investigate how pinpoint variation controls the volume phase transition. All copolymer hydrogels showed a volume phase transition from a swollen phase to a collapsed phase at a definite MA‐Ala‐OEt content at a specific temperature. The MA‐Ala‐OEt content at the midpoint of the transition linearly decreased with elevation of the temperature, and the decrease was larger for poly(MA‐Ala‐OMe‐co‐MA‐Ala‐OEt) than for poly(MA‐Ala‐NR2co‐MA‐Ala‐OEt). These results suggest that the association of the side chains controlling the swelling character of the hydrogels depends on the interacting ester–ester or ester–amide groups, and the former is larger than the latter. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Dual thermo‐ and pH‐sensitive network‐grafted hydrogels made of poly(N,N‐dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA) network and poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) grafting chains were successfully synthesized by the combination of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization, and click chemistry. PNIPAM having two azide groups at one chain end [PNIPAM‐(N3)2] was prepared with an azide‐capped ATRP initiator of N,N‐di(β‐azidoethyl) 2‐chloropropionylamide. Alkyne‐pending poly(N,N‐dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate‐co‐propargyl acrylate) [P(DMAEMA‐co‐ProA)] was obtained through RAFT copolymerization using dibenzyltrithiocarbonate as chain transfer agent. The subsequent click reaction led to the formation of the network‐grafted hydrogels. The influences of the chemical composition of P(DMAEMA‐co‐ProA) on the properties of the hydrogels were investigated in terms of morphology and swelling/deswelling kinetics. The dual stimulus‐sensitive hydrogels exhibited fast response, high swelling ratio, and reproducible swelling/deswelling cycles under different temperatures and pH values. The uptake and release of ceftriaxone sodium by these hydrogels showed both thermal and pH dependence, suggesting the feasibility of these hydrogels as thermo‐ and pH‐dependent drug release devices. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Controlled intramolecular collapse of linear polymer chains with crosslinkable groups is an efficient way to prepare single‐chain nanoparticles in the size range of 5–20 nm. However, the nature of the crosslinking group is critical. In present study, poly(styrene‐co‐chloromethyl styrene) [P(St‐co‐CMS)] was synthesized via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization and then was converted into polystyrene azide (PS? N3). Polystyrene containing benzoxazine side groups [P(St‐co‐BS)], which can be used as the precusor for the later intramolecular collapse, was obtained from PS? N3 and 3‐(4‐(prop‐2‐ynyloxy)phenyl)‐3,4‐dihydro‐2H‐benzo[e][1,3]oxazine (P‐APPE) via the method of click chemistry. The sub‐20 nm polymeric nanoparticles with well‐defined structure via thermally intramolecular crosslinking of P(St‐co‐BS) were prepared. The structure change from the linear polymers to the single‐chain nanoparticles was confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The morphology and the dimension of the nanoparticles were characterized by using transmission electron microscope (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), as well as dynamic light scattering (DLS). The results reveal that the size of the nanoparticles can be regulated by changing the molecular weight of the precursors and the amount of pendant benzoxazine groups by the use of controlled polymerization techniques. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This study was related to the investigation of the chemical fixation of carbon dioxide to a copolymer bearing epoxide and the application of the cyclic carbonate group containing copolymer‐to‐polymer blends. In the synthesis of poly[(2‐oxo‐1,3‐dioxolane‐4‐yl) methyl methacrylate‐co‐ethyl acrylate] [poly(DOMA‐co‐EA)] from poly(glycidyl methacrylate‐co‐ethyl acrylate) [poly(GMA‐co‐EA)] and CO2, quaternary ammonium salts showed good catalytic activity. The films of poly(DOMA‐co‐EA) with poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) or poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) blends were cast from N,N′‐dimethylformamide solution. The miscibility of the blends of poly(DOMA‐co‐EA) with PMMA or PVC have been investigated both by DSC and visual inspection of the blends. The optical clarity test and DSC analysis showed that poly(DOMA‐co‐EA) containing blends were miscible over the whole composition range. The miscibility behaviors were discussed in terms of Fourier transform infrared spectra and interaction parameters based on the binary interaction model. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Dimethyl 2,6‐anthracene dicarboxylate is used as a comonomer in the synthesis of functional copolymers that are subject to modification with Diels–Alder reactions. The formation of poly(ethylene terephthalate‐co‐2,6‐anthracenate), containing less than 20 mol % of the anthracene‐2,6‐dicarboxylate structural units, provides materials that are tractable and soluble. The anthracene units of the copolymers undergo Diels–Alder reactions with N‐substituted maleimides. The grafting of N‐alkylmaleimides affords soluble, hydrophobic polymers, whereas grafting with maleimide‐terminated poly(ethylene glycol) affords hydrophilic polymers. Because this reaction proceeds below the melting point of the copolymers, the procedure can be applied to thin films, whereby the surface properties are modified. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel method is proposed to access to new poly(α‐amino‐ε‐caprolactone‐co‐ε‐caprolactone) using poly(α‐iodo‐ε‐caprolactone‐co‐ε‐caprolactone) as polymeric substrate. First, ring‐opening (co)polymerizations of α‐iodo‐ε‐caprolactone (αIεCL) with ε‐caprolactone (εCL) are performed using tin 2‐ethylhexanoate (Sn(Oct)2) as catalyst. (Co)polymers are fully characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FTIR, SEC, DSC, and TGA. Then, these iodinated polyesters are used as polymeric substrates to access to poly(α‐amino‐ε‐caprolactone‐co‐ε‐caprolactone) by two different strategies. The first one is the reaction of poly(αIεCL‐co‐εCL) with ammonia, the second one is the reduction of poly(αN3εCL‐co‐εCL) by hydrogenolysis. This poly(α‐amino‐ε‐caprolactone‐co‐ε‐caprolactone) (FαNH2εCL < 0.1) opens the way to new cationic and water‐soluble PCL‐based degradable polyesters. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Several water‐soluble polymers were used as templates for the in situ polymerization of pyrrole to determine their effect on the generation of nanosized polypyrrole (PPy) particles. The polymers used include: polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polyethylene oxide (PEO), poly(vinyl butyral), polystyrene sulfonic acid, poly(ethylene‐alt‐maleic anhydride) (PEMA), poly(octadecene‐alt‐maleic anhydride), poly(N‐vinyl pyrrolidone), poly(vinyl butyral‐co‐vinyl alcohol‐co‐vinyl acetate), poly(N‐isopropyl acrylamide), poly(ethylene oxide‐block‐propylene oxide), hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose, and guar gum. The oxidative polymerization of pyrrole was carried out with FeCl3 as an oxidant. The morphology of PPy particles obtained after drying the resulting aqueous dispersions was examined by optical microscopy, and selected samples were further analyzed via atomic force microscopy. Among the template polymers, PVA was the most efficient in generating stable dispersions of PPy nanospheres in water, followed by PEO and PEMA. The average size of PPy nanospheres was in the range of 160 nm and found to depend on the molecular weight and concentration of PVA. Model reactions and kinetics of the polymerization reaction of pyrrole in PVA were carried out by hydrogen 1H NMR spectroscopy using ammonium persulfate as an oxidant. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Double hydrophilic diblock copolymer, poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide)‐b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐co‐3‐azidopropylacrylamide) (PDMA‐b‐P(NIPAM‐co‐AzPAM), containing azide moieties in one of the blocks was synthesized via consecutive reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization. The obtained diblock copolymer molecularly dissolves in aqueous solution at room temperature, and can further supramolecularly self‐assemble into core‐shell nanoparticles consisting of thermoresponsive P(NIPAM‐co‐AzPAM) cores and water‐soluble PDMA coronas above the lower critical solution temperature of P(NIPAM‐co‐AzPAM) block. As the micelle cores contain reactive azide residues, core crosslinking can be facilely achieved upon addition of difunctional propargyl ether via click chemistry. In an alternate approach in which the PDMA‐b‐P(NIPAM‐co‐AzPAM) diblock copolymer was dissolved in a common organic solvent (DMF), the core‐crosslinked (CCL) micelles can be fabricated via “click” crosslinking upon addition of propargyl ether and subsequent dialysis against water. CCL micelles prepared by the latter approach typically possess larger sizes and broader size distributions, compared with that obtained by the former one. In both cases, the obtained (CCL) micelles possess thermoresponsive cores, and the swelling/shrinking of which can be finely tuned with temperature, rendering them as excellent candidates as intelligent drug nanocarriers. Because of the high efficiency and quite mild conditions of click reactions, we expect that this strategy can be generalized for the structural fixation of other self‐assembled nanostructures. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis and self‐polyaddition of new monomers, o‐, m‐, and p‐[(3‐ethyloxetane‐3‐yl)methoxyethyl]benzoic acid (o‐EOMB, m‐EOMB, and p‐EOMB) containing both oxetanyl groups and carboxyl groups were examined. The reactions of o‐EOMB, m‐EOMB, and p‐EOMB in the presence of tetraphenylphosphonium bromide as a catalyst in o‐dichlorobenzene at 150–170 °C resulted in self‐polyaddition to give the corresponding hetero‐telechelic polymers poly(o‐EOMB), poly(m‐EOMB), and poly(p‐EOMB) with Mns = 14,500–33,400 in satisfactory yields. The Mn of poly(o‐EOMB) decreased at higher reaction temperatures than 150 °C, unlike those of poly(m‐EOMB) and poly(p‐EOMB), possibly due to inter‐ or intraester exchange side reactions. It was also found that the thermal properties and solubilities of these polymers were supposed with the proposed structures. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In order to exploit the applications of polypyrrole (PPy) derivatives in biosensors and bioelectronics, the different immobilization mechanisms of biomolecules onto differently functionalized conducting PPy films are investigated. Pyrrole and pyrrole derivatives with carboxyl and amino groups were copolymerized with ω‐(N‐pyrrolyl)‐octylthiol self‐assembled on Au surface by the method of the chemical polymerization to form a layer of the copolymer film, i.e., poly[pyrrole‐co‐(N‐pyrrolyl)‐caproic acid] (poly(Py‐co‐PyCA)) and poly[pyrrole‐co‐(N‐pyrrolyl)‐hexylamine] (poly(Py‐co‐PyHA)), in which the carboxyl groups in poly(Py‐co‐PyCA) were activated to the ester groups. Based on the structure characteristics, the immobilization/hybridization of DNA molecules on PPy, poly(Py‐co‐PyCA) and poly(Py‐co‐PyHA) were surveyed by cyclic voltammograms measurements. For differently functionalized copolymers, the immobilization mechanisms of DNA are various. Besides the electrochemical properties of the composite electrodes of PPy and its copolymers being detected before and after bovine serum albumin (BSA) adsorption, the kinetic process of protein binding was determined by surface plasmon resonance of spectroscopy. Since few BSA molecules could anchor onto the PPy and its copolymers surfaces, it suggests this kind of conducting polymers can be applied as the protein‐resistant material.  相似文献

Copper(0)‐catalyzed one‐pot reaction combining living radical polymerization and “click chemistry” was investigated. By precisely tuning reaction time, three novel well‐defined polymers with different degree of carboxyl substitution, poly(propargyl methacrylate) (PPgMA), poly(1‐(4‐carboxyphenyl)‐[1,2,3]triazol‐4‐methyl methacrylate) (PCTMMA), and poly(1‐(4‐carboxyphenyl)‐[1,2,3]triazol‐4‐methyl methacrylate‐co‐propargyl methacrylate) (PCTMMA‐co‐PPgMA) were selectively obtained via Cu(0) powder/N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) cocatalyzed LRP and click chemistry. In addition, gel permeation chromatography and 1H NMR analysis in conjunction with FTIR spectroscopy elucidate that one‐pot process undergoes three steps due to a pronounced rate enhancement of click reaction: (1) generating new monomer, 1‐(4‐carboxyphenyl)‐[1,2,3]triazol‐4‐methyl methacrylate (CTMMA); (2) copolymerization of two monomers (CTMMA and PgMA); (3) building homopolymer PCTMMA. Surprisingly, in contrast to typical Cu(I)‐catalyzed atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), copper(0)‐catalyzed one‐pot reaction showed high carboxylic acid group tolerance. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An amphiphilic block copolymer, poly(ethylene glycol)‐block‐poly(L ‐lactide‐co‐2‐methyl‐2‐benzoxycarbonyl‐propylene carbonate) [PEG‐b‐P(LA‐co‐MBC)], was synthesized in bulk by the ring‐opening polymerization of L ‐lactide with 2‐methyl‐2‐benzoxycarbonyl‐propylene carbonate (MBC) in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol) as a macroinitiator with diethyl zinc as a catalyst. The subsequent catalytic hydrogenation of PEG‐b‐P(LA‐co‐MBC) with palladium hydroxide on activated charcoal (20%) as a catalyst was carried out to obtain the corresponding linear copolymer poly(ethyleneglycol)‐block‐poly(L ‐lactide‐co‐2‐methyl‐2‐carboxyl‐propylenecarbonate) [PEG‐b‐P(LA‐co‐MCC)] with pendant carboxyl groups. DSC analysis indicated that the glass‐transition temperature (Tg) of PEG‐b‐P(LA‐co‐MBC) decreased with increasing MBC content in the copolymer, and Tg of PEG‐b‐P(LA‐co‐MCC) was higher than that of the corresponding PEG‐b‐P(LA‐co‐MBC). The in vitro degradation rate of PEG‐b‐P(LA‐co‐MCC) in the presence of proteinase K was faster than that of PEG‐b‐P(LA‐co‐MBC), and the cytotoxicity of PEG‐b‐P(LA‐co‐MCC) to chondrocytes from human fetal arthrosis was lower than that of poly(L ‐lactide). © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined macromolecular brushes with poly(N‐isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAM) side chains on random copolymer backbones were synthesized by “grafting from” approach based on click chemistry and reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. To prepare macromolecular brushes, two linear random copolymers of 2‐(trimethylsilyloxy)ethyl methacrylate (HEMA‐TMS) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) (poly(MMA‐co‐HEMA‐TMS)) were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization and were subsequently derivated to azide‐containing polymers. Novel alkyne‐terminated RAFT chain transfer agent (CTA) was grafted to polymer backbones by copper‐catalyzed 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition (azide‐alkyne click chemistry), and macro‐RAFT CTAs were obtained. PNIPAM side chains were prepared by RAFT polymerization. The macromolecular brushes have well‐defined structures, controlled molecular weights, and molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn ≦ 1.23). The RAFT polymerization of NIPAM exhibited pseudo‐first‐order kinetics and a linear molecular weight dependence on monomer conversion, and no detectable termination was observed in the polymerization. The macromolecular brushes can self‐assemble into micelles in aqueous solution. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 48: 443–453, 2010  相似文献

Herein, we investigate the influence of spacer length on the homoassociation and heteroassociation of end‐functionalized hydrogen‐bonding polymers based on poly(n‐butyl acrylate). Two monofunctional ureido‐pyrimidinone (UPy) end‐functionalized polymers were prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization using self‐complementary UPy‐functional initiators that differ in the spacer length between the multiple‐hydrogen‐bonding group and the chain initiation site. The self‐complementary binding strength (Kdim) of these end‐functionalized polymers was shown to depend critically on the spacer length as evident from 1H NMR and diffusion‐ordered spectroscopy. In addition, the heteroassociation strength of the end‐functionalized UPy polymers with end‐functionalized polymers containing the complementary 2,7‐diamido‐1,8‐naphthyridine (NaPy) hydrogen‐bond motif is also affected when the aliphatic spacer length is too short. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Functional, degradable polymers were synthesized via the copolymerization of vinyl acetate (VAc) and 2‐methylene‐1,3‐dioxepane (MDO) using a macro‐xanthate CTA, poly(N‐vinylpyrrolidone), resulting in the formation of amphiphilic block copolymers of poly(NVP)‐b‐poly(MDO‐co‐VAc). The behavior of the block copolymers in water was investigated and resulted in the formation of self‐assembled nanoparticles containing a hydrophobic core and a hydrophilic corona. The size of the resultant nanoparticles was able to be tuned with variation of the hydrophilic and hydrophobic segments of the core and corona by changing the incorporation of the macro‐CTA as well as the monomer composition in the copolymers, as observed by Dynamic Light Scattering, Static Light Scattering, and Transmission Electron Microscopy analyses. The concept was further applied to a VAc derivative monomer, vinyl bromobutanoate, to incorporate further functionalities such as fluorescent dithiomaleimide groups throughout the polymer backbone using azidation and “click” chemistry as postpolymerization tools to create fluorescently labeled nanoparticles. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The differences in the polymerization abilities of N‐vinylformamide (NVF) and N‐vinylisobutyramide (NVIBA) and the synthesis of their copolymers were studied. The polymerization abilities were fairly good and quite similar to those of N‐vinyl‐ acetamide (NVA), a monomer in the same class as N‐vinylalkylamides. Since the monomer reactivity ratios were r1 = 1.08 and r2 = 0.92 (M1 = NVF, M2 = NVIBA), respectively, it is clear that the comonomers definitely were converted to random copolymers. The resulting copolymers poly(NVF‐co‐NVIBA) exhibited the cloud points sharply. The light transmittance profiles were the same as those for poly(NVIBA) although they increased from 39 °C for poly(NVIBA), with an increase in the corresponding hydrophilic NVF component. Our final objective was to produce a cloud point controlled polymer material with primary amino groups. To achieve this, we examined the hydrolysis of poly(NVF), poly(NVA), poly(NVIBA), and poly(NVF‐co‐NVIBA) to obtain poly(vinylamine) [poly(VAm)]. The hydrolytic cleavage of poly(NVF) and poly(NVA) was promoted by an increase in temperature. However, poly(NVIBA) was not cleaved appreciably. The hydrolysis of poly(NVF‐co‐NVIBA) was done under controlled conditions, and amino groups selectively were introduced to only one of two components of the copolymer. The cloud point of the hydrolyzed copolymer shifted to a higher temperature than that of the copolymer. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 38: 3674–3681, 2000  相似文献

Photocrosslinkable poly(vinylbenzophenone)‐containing polymers were synthesized via a one‐step, Friedel–Crafts benzoylation of polystyrene‐containing starting materials [including polystyrene, polystyrene‐block‐poly(tert‐butyl acrylate), polystyrene‐block‐poly(ethylene oxide), polystyrene‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate), and polystyrene‐block‐poly(n‐butyl acrylate)] with benzoyl trifluoromethanesulfonate as a benzoylation reagent. The use of this mild reagent (which required no added Lewis acid) permitted polymers with well‐defined compositions and narrow molecular weight distributions to be synthesized. Micelles formed from one of these benzoylated polymers, [polystyrene0.25co‐poly(vinylbenzophenone)0.75]115block‐poly(acrylic acid)14, were then fixed by the irradiation of the micelle cores with UV light. As the irradiation time was increased, the pendent benzophenone groups crosslinked with other chains in the glassy micelle cores. Dynamic light scattering, spectrofluorimetry, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were all used to verify the progress of the crosslinking reaction. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polymethyl(alkoxy)siloxane copolymers, poly(MTES‐co‐TEOS), and poly(MTMS‐co‐TMOS), are prepared by acid‐catalyzed controlled hydrolytic co‐polycondensation of methyl(trialkoxy)silane MeSi(OR)3 (R = Et (MTES) and Me (MTMS)) and tetra‐alkoxysilane Si(OR)4 (R = Et (TEOS) and Me (TMOS)), respectively. The products are purified by fractional precipitation to provide polymethyl(alkoxy)siloxane copolymers with molecular weight 1000–10,000 (poly(MTES‐co‐TEOS)) or 1700–100,000 (poly(MTMS‐co‐TMOS)) that are stable to self‐condensation. These polymers are soluble in common organic solvents except for hexane, and form flexible and transparent free‐standing films with a tensile strength of 4.0–10.0 MPa. The structure of the polymethyl(alkoxy)siloxane copolymers is thought to be a random or a block co‐polymer. They are found to provide coating films with an adhesive strength up to 10, a refractive index of 1.36–1.40, and a dielectric constant of 3.5–3.6. The products also show better weathering stability than polyethoxysiloxane due to the hydrolytic polycondensation of TEOS. Field emission‐scanning electron micrography analysis reveals that coating films are composed of a micro‐phase separated structure. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Degradable, amphiphilic graft copolymers of poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐graft‐poly(ethylene oxide), PCL‐g‐PEO, were synthesized via a grafting onto strategy taking advantage of the ketones presented along the backbone of the statistical copolymer poly(ε‐caprolactone)‐co‐(2‐oxepane‐1,5‐dione), (PCL‐co‐OPD). Through the formation of stable ketoxime ether linkages, 3 kDa PEO grafts and p‐methoxybenzyl side chains were incorporated onto the polyester backbone with a high degree of fidelity and efficiency, as verified by NMR spectroscopies and GPC analysis (90% grafting efficiency in some cases). The resulting block graft copolymers displayed significant thermal differences, specifically a depression in the observed melting transition temperature, Tm, in comparison with the parent PCL and PEO polymers. These amphiphilic block graft copolymers undergo self‐assembly in aqueous solution with the P(CL‐co‐OPD‐co‐(OPD‐g‐PEO)) polymer forming spherical micelles and a P(CL‐co‐OPD‐co‐(OPD‐g‐PEO)‐co‐(OPD‐gpMeOBn)) forming cylindrical or rod‐like micelles, as observed by transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An alternating copolymer composed of heal‐to‐tail‐structured 3,4′‐dihexyl‐2,2′‐bithiophene (DHBT) and pyrene units [poly(DHBT‐alt‐PYR)] was synthesized using a Stille coupling reaction for use in photovoltaic devices as a p‐type donor. For the reduction of the bandgap energy of poly(DHBT‐alt‐PYR), 4,7‐bis(3′‐hexyl‐2,2′‐bithiophen‐5‐yl)benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole (BHBTBT) units were introduced into the polymer. Poly(DHBT‐co‐PYR‐co‐BHBTBT)s were synthesized using the same polymerization reaction. The synthesized polymers were soluble in common organic solvents and formed smooth thin films after spin casting. The optical bandgap energies of the polymers were obtained from the onset absorption wavelengths. The measured optical bandgap energy of poly(DHBT‐alt‐PYR) was 2.47 eV. As the BHBTBT content in the ter‐polymers increased, the optical bandgap energies of the resulting polymers decreased. The bandgap energies of poly(50DHBT‐co‐40PYR‐co‐10BHBTBT) and poly(50DHBT‐co‐20PYR‐co‐30BHBTBT) were 1.84 and 1.73 eV, respectively. Photovoltaic devices were fabricated with a typical sandwich structure of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/active layer/LiF/Al using the polymers as electron donors and [6,6]‐phenyl C71‐butyric acid methyl ester as the electron acceptor. The device using poly(50DHBT‐co‐20PYR‐co‐30BHBTBT) showed the best performance among the fabricated devices, with an open‐circuit voltage, short‐circuit current, fill factor, and maximum power conversion efficiency of 0.68 V, 5.54 mA/cm2, 0.35, and 1.31%, respectively. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
