A well‐defined and monofunctional poly(3‐hexylthiophene)‐based (P3HT) macroinitiator has been obtained through a clean, simple, and an efficient multistep synthesis process. The macroinitiator is obtained via intermolecular radical 1,2‐addition onto an ω‐acrylate‐terminated P3HT macromonomer. In a second step, well‐defined rod‐coil block copolymers were obtained by nitroxide‐mediated radical polymerization (NMRP) using the so‐called Blocbuilder®. The polymerization was found to be controlled with various monomers such as styrene, isoprene, 4‐vinylpyridine, or methyl acrylate. This process constitutes a very promising way to obtain versatile and clean materials for organic electronics. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

Regioregular poly(3‐hexyl thiophene) (rr‐P3HT)‐based star polymers were synthesized by a crosslinking reaction of the linear rr‐P3HT macroinitiator and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) crosslinker through Ru‐based atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), where the rr‐P3HT macroinitiator was prepared by Grignard metathesis method (GRIM) followed by end functionalization of the ATRP initiator with chlorophenylacetate (CPA) to the rr‐P3HT. Relatively high molecular weight of the star polymers were obtained (Mp = 8,988,000 g/mol), which consisted of large numbers of the rr‐P3HT arm chains radiating from the EGDMA‐based microgel core. The yield of the star polymers were strongly affected by the added amount of the EGDMA crosslinker. The crystalline structure of the rr‐P3HT by intermolecular π‐π stacking interaction gradually decreased as the star polymer formed, which was confirmed by differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and electro‐optical analyses. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new bipyridine‐functionalized dithioester was synthesized and further used as a RAFT agent in RAFT polymerization of styrene and N‐isopropylacrylamide. Kinetics analysis indicates that it is an efficient chain transfer agent for RAFT polymerization of the two monomers which produce polystyrene and poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) polymers with predetermined molecular weights and low polydispersities in addition to the end functionality of bipyridine. The bipyridine end‐functionalized polymers were further used as macroligands for the preparation of star‐shaped metallopolymers. Hydrophobic polystyrene macroligand combined with hydrophiphilic poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) was complexed with ruthenium ions to produce amphiphilic ruthenium‐cored star‐shaped metallopolymers. The structures of these synthesized metallopolymers were further elucidated by UV–vis, fluorescence, size exclusion chromatography (SEC), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) as well as NMR techniques. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We demonstrate an efficient strategy to anchor poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) onto zinc oxide (ZnO) surfaces. Synthesis of a novel triethoxysilane‐terminated regioregular P3HT is herein reported and supported by thorough characterization. Three triethoxysilane‐terminated P3HTs of different molar masses were prepared via a hydrosilylation reaction from allyl‐terminated P3HT. MALDI‐TOF and 1H NMR were performed to characterize the polymer and show that around 80% of the chains are end‐functionalized. These polymers were then grafted onto the ZnO nanorods to create a macromolecular self‐assembled monolayer. This versatile technique could be subsequently applied to different metal oxide surfaces, such as silicon, titanium, or indium‐tin oxide, and represents a new one‐pot strategy based on triethoxysilane coupling reaction. Importantly, the influence of the molar mass on the grafting density and the polymer shell thickness was studied via thermo gravimetric analysis and transmission electron microscopy. The optical properties of the hybrid materials were determined by UV–visible absorption and photoluminescence to show a quenching effect of P3HT fluorescence by ZnO when grafted. This electronic transfer associated with an improved miscibility of the ZnO@P3HT, makes these hybrid materials suitable candidates for photovoltaic applications. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. The synthesis of regioregular head‐to‐tail poly(3‐hexylthiophene)s capped with aryl groups (Ar‐HT‐P3HTs) has been accomplished by palladium‐catalyzed polycondensation of 2‐bromo‐3‐hexylthiophene ( 1 ) via direct arylation. A variety of aryl groups are installed at the initiated end in 86%–98% selectivity using aryl bromides and iodides as capping agents. The polymerization proceeds via a two‐stage process. Before monomer 1 is consumed, the competitive formation of end‐capped and non‐capped HT‐P3HTs is operative, where the molecular weight increases linearly with monomer conversion. After 1 is consumed, the resulting polymers are coupled with each other to afford highly end‐capped HT‐P3HTs.  相似文献

A series of functionalized 2‐bromoisobutyrates and 2‐chloro‐2‐phenylacetates led to α‐end‐functionalized poly(methyl methacrylate)s in Ru(II)‐catalyzed living radical polymerization; the terminal functions included amine, hydroxyl, and amide. These initiators were effective in the presence of additives such as Al(Oi‐Pr)3 and n‐Bu3N. The chlorophenylacetate initiators especially coupled with the amine additive gave polymers with well‐controlled molecular weights (Mw/Mn = 1.2–1.3) and high end functionality (Fn ~ 1.0). © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, the synthesis of a series of conjugated rod–rod block copolymers based on poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and poly(phenyl isocyanide) (PPI) building blocks in a single pot is presented. Ni‐catalyzed Grignard metathesis polymerization of 2,5‐dibromo‐3‐hexylthiophene and subsequent addition of 4‐isocyanobenzoyl‐2‐aminoisobutyric acid decyl ester in the presence of Ni(dppp)Cl2 as a single catalyst afford P3HT‐b‐PPI with tunable molecular weights and compositions. In solid state, microphase separation occurred as differential scanning calorimetric analysis of P3HT‐b‐PPI revealed two glass transition temperatures. In solutions, the copolymers can self‐assemble into spherical aggregates with P3HT core and PPI shell in tetrahydrofuran and exhibit amorphous state in CHCl3. However, atomic force microscopy revealed that the block copolymers self‐assemble into nanofibrils on the substrate. These unique features warrant the resultant conjugated rod–rod copolymers' potential study in organic photovoltaic and other electronic devices. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Block and random copolymers of poly(3‐hexylthiophene) and poly[3‐(2‐(6‐carboxyhexyl)methyl)thiophene] with side‐chain carboxylic functionality ((P3HT‐b‐P3COOH) and (P3HT‐r‐P3COOH) were developed by Grignard Metathesis (GRIM) polymerization. The carboxylic functionality was introduced in the side chain via the oxazoline route. Both the block and random polythiophene copolymers were complexed with pyridine functionalized perylene bisimide to obtain supramolecular block and random polymer complexes. The complex formation in both systems was confirmed by 1H NMR, WXRD and SAXS studies. An expansion of d spacing upon complex formation was observed in both the block and random copolymer, which could be traced by WXRD. Hole and electron mobilities measured for the supramolecular complexes indicated values which were higher by an order of magnitude for the supramolecular block complex (μh ≈ 2.9 × 10−4 cm2/Vs; μe ≈ 3.1 × 10−6 cm2/Vs) as compared to the random (μh ≈ 1.4 × 10−5 cm2/Vs; μe ≈ 4.7 × 10−7 cm2/Vs) copolymer. These results are indicative of the higher degree of disorder prevailing in the films of random copolymer system compared to the block copolymer. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Structurally well‐defined end‐functionalized syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) can be prepared by conducting a simultaneous selective chain transfer reaction during the syndiospecific polymerization of styrene in the presence of vinylsilanes. The production of vinylsilane end‐capped sPS involves a unique selective chain transfer pathway via the incorporation of a terminal vinylsilane unit at the polymer chain end by 2,1‐insertion. This unusual insertion pattern situates the bulky silyl functional group at a closer β‐position from the active catalyst center, thus deactivating the propagating chain by a steric jam between the vinylsilane end group and the active catalyst. Subsequently, chain releasing by hydrogen addition (in the presence of H2) or by β‐elimination (in the absence of H2) can take place, which leads to the production of end‐functionalized sPS with precise controls of stereoregularity and of the location of functionality. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We have introduced a facile synthetic route for well‐defined A2B miktoarm star copolymer composed of regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene) and poly(methyl methacrylate) ((P3HT)2PMMA) by the combination of anionic polymerization and click reaction. First, we synthesized PMMA terminated with 1,3,5‐tris(bromomethyl)benzene (PMMA‐(Br)2) by anionic polymerization, and two bromines attached to the end of the PMMA chains were replaced by azides (PMMA‐(N3)2). Also, monoethynyl‐capped P3HT was synthesized by Grignard metathesis polymerization and post‐end functionalization. Then, copper(I)‐catalyzed Huisgen 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition click reaction between monoethynyl‐capped P3HT and PMMA‐(N3)2 was performed to synthesize (P3HT)2PMMA. We used a slightly excess amount of monoethynyl‐capped P3HT so that all of the azide groups at the end of the PMMA chains completely reacted with monoethynyl‐capped P3HT. After complete removal of unreacted monoethynyl‐capped P3HT by column chromatography, pure (P3HT)2PMMA with narrow molecular weight distribution (the polydispersity of 1.18) was obtained. The weight fraction of P3HT and the total molecular weight of (P3HT)2PMMA are 0.48 and 16,000, respectively. To investigate the effect of the chain architecture on optical property and thin‐film morphology, we synthesized two linear P3HT‐b‐PMMAs (P3HT‐b‐PMMA‐L and P3HT‐b‐PMMA‐H) with similar weight fraction of P3HT block (0.48 for P3HT‐b‐PMMA‐L and 0.45 for P3HT‐b‐PMMA‐H) but two different total molecular weights (7900 for P3HT‐b‐PMMA‐L and 15,300 for P3HT‐b‐PMMA‐H). UV–visible (UV–vis) absorption spectrum and the fibril width of (P3HT)2PMMA thin film were similar to those of P3HT‐b‐PMMA‐L thin film. However, UV–vis spectrum for P3HT‐b‐PMMA‐H thin film was red‐shifted and the fibril width of P3HT‐b‐PMMA‐H was much larger than that of (P3HT)2PMMA. This indicates that the π–π interaction between P3HT arms in (P3HT)2PMMA is strong enough to arrange two P3HT backbone chains in (P3HT)2PMMA to stack one by one along the nanofibril axis. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Nitroxide‐mediated, controlled living radical polymerization was employed to introduce terpyridine ligands at one or two chain ends of polystyrene. For this purpose, a unimolecular initiator bearing both a terpyridine ligand as well as a mediating nitroxide was synthesized and used for the controlled polymerization of styrene. Moreover, a maleimide‐functionalized terpyridine was prepared in order to synthesize telechelic polymers, utilizing nitroxide substitution reactions. Kinetic studies of the polymerization of styrene were carried out. In all polymerizations, special attention was focused on the retention of end‐group functionality, in light of the effects of autoinitiation and autopolymerization. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Regioregular poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) has been a commonly used p‐type semiconducting material for solution processable organic electronics. To establish a living system of “Negishi‐type catalyst‐transfer polycondensation (NCTP)” using zincate complex as a synthetic method for well‐defined P3HT having predictable molecular weight (MW) and low dispersity (?), the ligands of Ni catalyst were optimized. As a result, a ligand of 1,2‐bis(dicyclohexylphosphino)ethane produced P3HTs with highly controlled number average MWs (1650–32,800) and very low ? values (1.03–1.17). The polymerization results were strongly influenced by steric hindrance based on the factors of cone angle and bite angle of Ni catalysts, and/or electron‐donating ability of phosphine ligands. In addition, we succeeded in the two‐stage polymerization of P3HT and the synthesis of P3HT‐b‐poly(3‐octadecylthiophene), the latter of which is the first demonstration by NCTP using zincate complex. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the facile synthesis and characterization of a class of thienothiophene polymers with various lengths of alkyl side chains. A series of 2‐alkylthieno[3,4‐b]thiophene monomers (Ttx) have been synthesized in a two‐step protocol in an overall yield of 28–37%. Poly(2‐alkylthieno[3,4‐b]thiophenes) (PTtx, alkyl: pentyl, hexyl, heptyl, octyl, and tridecyl) were synthesized by oxidative polymerization with FeCl3 or via Grignard metathesis (GRIM) polymerization methods. The polymers are readily soluble in common organic solvents. The polymers synthesized by GRIM polymerization method (PTtx‐G) have narrower molecular weight distribution (?) with lower molecular weight (Mn) than those synthesized by oxidative polymerization (PTtx‐O). The band structures of the polymers with various lengths of alkyl side chains were investigated by UV–vis spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy. These low‐bandgap polymers are good candidates for organic transistors, organic light‐emitting diodes, and organic photovoltaic cells. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Herein, we investigate the influence of spacer length on the homoassociation and heteroassociation of end‐functionalized hydrogen‐bonding polymers based on poly(n‐butyl acrylate). Two monofunctional ureido‐pyrimidinone (UPy) end‐functionalized polymers were prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization using self‐complementary UPy‐functional initiators that differ in the spacer length between the multiple‐hydrogen‐bonding group and the chain initiation site. The self‐complementary binding strength (Kdim) of these end‐functionalized polymers was shown to depend critically on the spacer length as evident from 1H NMR and diffusion‐ordered spectroscopy. In addition, the heteroassociation strength of the end‐functionalized UPy polymers with end‐functionalized polymers containing the complementary 2,7‐diamido‐1,8‐naphthyridine (NaPy) hydrogen‐bond motif is also affected when the aliphatic spacer length is too short. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of a new compound, 2‐[(4‐bromomethyl)phenyl]‐4,5‐dihydro‐4,4‐dimethyloxazole ( 1 ), and its utility in the synthesis of oxazoline‐functionalized polystyrene by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) methods are described. Aromatic oxazolyl‐functionalized polymers were prepared by the ATRP of styrene, initiated by ( 1 ) in the presence of copper(I) bromide/2,2′‐bipyridyl catalyst system, to afford the corresponding α‐oxazolyl‐functionalized polystyrene ( 2 ). The polymerization proceeded via a controlled free radical polymerization process to produce the corresponding α‐oxazolyl‐functionalized polymers with predictable number‐average molecular weights, narrow molecular weight distributions in high‐initiator efficiency reactions. Post‐ATRP chain end modification of α‐oxazolyl‐functionalized polystyrene ( 2 ) to form the corresponding α‐carboxyl‐functionalized polystyrene ( 3 ) was achieved by successive acid‐catalyzed hydrolysis and saponification reactions. The polymerization processes were monitored by gas chromatography analyses. The unimolecular‐functionalized initiator and functionalized polymers were characterized by thin layer chromatography, spectroscopy, size exclusion chromatography, and nonaqueous titration analysis. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Well‐defined poly(m‐phenylene) (PMP), which is poly(1,3‐dibutoxy‐m‐phenylene), was successfully synthesized via Grignard metathesis polymerization. PMP with a reasonably high number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of 25,900 and a very low polydispersity index of 1.07 was obtained. The polymerization of a Grignard reagent monomer, 1‐bromo‐2,4‐dibutoxy‐5‐chloromagnesiobenzene, proceeded in a chain‐growth manner, probably due to the meta‐substituted design producing a short distance between the MgCl and Br groups and thereby making a smooth nickel species (? C? Ni? C? ) transfer to the intramolecular chain end (? C? Ni? Br) over a benzene ring. PMP showed a good solubility in the common organic solvents, such as tetrahydrofuran, CH2Cl2, and CHCl3. Furthermore, a new block copolymer comprised of PMP and poly(3‐hexylthiophene) was also prepared. The tapping mode atomic force microscopy image of the surface of the block copolymer thin film on a mica substrate showed a nanofibril morphology with a clear contrast. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis and characterization of barbiturate‐ and thiobarbiturate‐functionalized polystyrene from polystyrene homopolymer by polymer‐modification reactions is discussed. Polystyrene homopolymer quantitatively functionalized at the para postion with diethyl oxomalonate functionality was subjected to a condensation reaction with urea and thiourea in the presence of sodium methoxide in methanol. This reaction proceeded essentially to quantitative conversion to the barbiturate‐ (BAPS) and thiobarbiturate‐functionalized polystyrenes (TBAPS) as estimated by 1H NMR, UV, and IR spectroscopies. Thus, several copolymers of styrene with barbiturate‐ and thiobarbiturate‐functionalized styrene were synthesized. The detailed characterizations of quantitatively functionalized polystyrene using gel permeation chromatographic, IR, UV, and 1H NMR spectroscopic techniques as well as thermogravimetric analysis are discussed. An application of the newly synthesized polymer in removing Cu(II) ions from aqueous solution is demonstrated. This is the first report on the synthesis of BAPS and TBAPS by the polymer‐modification route or otherwise. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new regioregular head‐to‐tail (HT)‐type polypyridine with methoxyethoxyethoxy (MEEO) side chains, HT‐PMEEOPy, was synthesized by means of Kumada‐Tamao coupling polymerization of a Grignard monomer with a Ni catalyst. Although the polymer was precipitated in THF during polymerization, multiangle laser light scattering (MALLS) analysis indicated that the weight‐average molecular weight (Mw) was about 25,000. The HT content in the polymer was 95%. A solution of HT‐PMEEOPy in CHCl3 was found to emit a strong blue light when the solution was irradiated with UV light; the UV‐vis absorption maximum (λmax) and photoluminescence maximum (λmax em) were at 392 and 460 nm, respectively. To clarify the effect of regioregularity of PMEEOPy on the photoluminescence, head‐to‐head (HH) PMEEOPy was synthesized by means of Yamamoto coupling polymerization. The photoluminescence of HH‐PMEEOPy (λmax = 330 nm, λmax em = 414 nm) was weaker than that of HT‐PMEEOPy. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

The double click reactions (Cu catalyzed Huisgen and Diels–Alder reactions) were used as a new strategy for the preparation of well‐defined heterograft copolymers in one‐pot technique. The synthetic strategy to the various stages of this work is outlined: (i) preparing random copolymers of styrene (St) and p‐chloromethylstyrene (CMS) (which is a functionalizable monomer) via nitroxide mediated radical polymerization (NMP); (ii) attachment of anthracene functionality to the preformed copolymer by the o‐etherification procedure and then conversion of the remaining ? CH2Cl into azide functionality; (iii) by using double click reactions in one‐pot technique, maleimide end‐functionalized poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA‐MI) via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of MMA and alkyne end‐functionalized poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG‐alkyne) were introduced onto the copolymer bearing pendant anthryl and azide moieties. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Here an in‐depth analysis of reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization kinetics is reported in order to provide better definition of poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) rod–coil block copolymers thru a more thorough understanding of the RAFT polymerization of the coil block. To this end, a new P3HT macroRAFT agent is synthesized and utilized to prepare rod–coil block copolymers with P3HT and poly(styrene), poly(tert‐butylacrylate), and poly(4‐vinylpyridine), and the RAFT polymerization kinetics of each system are fully detailed. This is achieved by a comprehensive analysis of characterization data from 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, and matrix‐assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight spectroscopy, which are used as complementary techniques in order to address difficulties in accurately characterizing the synthesized polymer systems. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
