In this article, we discuss finite‐difference methods of order two and four for the solution of two‐and three‐dimensional triharmonic equations, where the values of u,(?2u/?n2) and (?4u/?n4) are prescribed on the boundary. For 2D case, we use 9‐ and for 3D case, we use 19‐ uniform grid points and a single computational cell. We introduce new ideas to handle the boundary conditions and do not require to discretize the boundary conditions at the boundary. The Laplacian and the biharmonic of the solution are obtained as byproduct of the methods. The resulting matrix system is solved by using the appropriate block iterative methods. This article deals with a boundary value problem for Laplace equation with a non‐linear and non‐local boundary condition. This problem comes from petroleum engineering and is used to obtain an estimation of well productivity. The non‐linear and non‐local boundary condition is written on the well boundary. On the outer reservoir boundaries, we have both Dirichlet and Neumann conditions. In this paper, we prove the existence and uniqueness of a solution to this problem. The existence is proved by Schauder theorem and the uniqueness is obtained under more restricted conditions, when the involved operator is a contraction. We study matrix representations of Sturm‐Liouville problems with coupled eigenparameter‐dependent boundary conditions and transmission conditions. Meanwhile, given any matrix eigenvalue problem with coupled eigenparameter‐dependent boundary conditions and transmission conditions, we construct a class of Sturm‐Liouville problems with given boundary conditions and transmission conditions such that they have the same eigenvalues.  相似文献

The paper is devoted to the investigation of a parabolic partial differential equation with non‐local and time‐dependent boundary conditions arising from ductal carcinoma in situ model. Approximation solution of the present problem is implemented by the Ritz–Galerkin method, which is a first attempt at tackling parabolic equation with such non‐classical boundary conditions. In the process of dealing with the difficulty caused by integral term in non‐local boundary condition, we use a trick of introducing the transition function G(x,t) to convert non‐local boundary to another non‐classical boundary, which can be handled with the Ritz–Galerkin method. The advection‐diffusion equation has a long history as a benchmark for numerical methods. Taylor‐Galerkin methods are used together with the type of splines known as B‐splines to construct the approximation functions over the finite elements for the solution of time‐dependent advection‐diffusion problems. If advection dominates over diffusion, the numerical solution is difficult especially if boundary layers are to be resolved. Known test problems have been studied to demonstrate the accuracy of the method. Numerical results show the behavior of the method with emphasis on treatment of boundary conditions. Taylor‐Galerkin methods have been constructed by using both linear and quadratic B‐spline shape functions. This paper is concerned with the existence of solutions of the first‐order fully coupled system with coupled functional boundary conditions. These functional boundary conditions generalize the usual boundary assumptions and may be applied to most of the classical cases. The arguments used are based on the Arzela‐Ascoli theorem and Schauder's fixed‐point theorem. An application to a mathematical model of the thyroid‐pituitary interaction and their homeostatic mechanism is included.  相似文献

In this paper we study the spatial behaviour of solutions of some problems for the dual‐phase‐lag heat equation on a semi‐infinite cylinder. The theory of dual‐phase‐lag heat conduction leads to a hyperbolic partial differential equation with a third derivative with respect to time. First, we investigate the spatial evolution of solutions of an initial boundary‐value problem with zero boundary conditions on the lateral surface of the cylinder. Under a boundedness restriction on the initial data, an energy estimate is obtained. An upper bound for the amplitude term in this estimate in terms of the initial and boundary data is also established. For the case of zero initial conditions, a more explicit estimate is obtained which shows that solutions decay exponentially along certain spatial‐time lines. A class of non‐standard problems is also considered for which the temperature and its first two time derivatives at a fixed time T are assumed proportional to their initial values. This paper deals with radial solutions to localized reaction‐diffusion equations with variable exponents, subject to homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. The global existence versus blow‐up criteria are studied in terms of the variable exponents. We proposed that the maximums of variable exponents are the key clue to determine blow‐up classifications and describe blow‐up rates for positive solutions. This paper reports a new Cartesian‐grid collocation method based on radial‐basis‐function networks (RBFNs) for numerically solving elliptic partial differential equations in irregular domains. The domain of interest is embedded in a Cartesian grid, and the governing equation is discretized by using a collocation approach. The new features here are (a) one‐dimensional integrated RBFNs are employed to represent the variable along each line of the grid, resulting in a significant improvement of computational efficiency, (b) the present method does not require complicated interpolation techniques for the treatment of Dirichlet boundary conditions in order to achieve a high level of accuracy, and (c) normal derivative boundary conditions are imposed by means of integration constants. The method is verified through the solution of second‐ and fourth‐order PDEs; accurate results and fast convergence rates are obtained. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The rotating flow in the presence of a magnetic field is a problem belonging to hydromagnetics and deserves to be more widely studied than it has been to date. In the non‐linear regime the literature is scarce. We develop the governing equations for the unsteady hydromagnetic rotating flow of a fourth‐order fluid past a porous plate. The steady flow is governed by a boundary value problem in which the order of differential equations is more than the number of available boundary conditions. It is shown that by augmenting the boundary conditions based on asymptotic structures at infinity it is possible to obtain numerical solutions of the nonlinear hydromagnetic equations. Effects of uniform suction or blowing past the porous plate, exerted magnetic field and rotation on the flow phenomena, especially on the boundary layer structure near the plate, are numerically analysed and discussed. The flow behaviours of the Newtonian fluid and second‐, third‐ and fourth‐order non‐Newtonian fluids are compared for the special flow problem, respectively. This paper deals with a porous medium system with nonlocal sources and weighted nonlocal boundary conditions. The main aim of this paper is to study how the reaction terms, the diffusion terms, and the weight functions in the boundary conditions affect the global and blow‐up properties to a porous medium system. The conditions on the global existence and blow‐up in finite time for nonnegative solutions are given. Furthermore, the blow‐up rate estimates of the blow‐up solutions are also established. In this paper, we first show that quite different from the autonomous case, the exact boundary controllability for non‐autonomous wave equations possesses various possibilities. Then we adopt a constructive method to establish the exact boundary controllability for one‐dimensional non‐autonomous quasilinear wave equations with various types of boundary conditions. We consider a class of non‐selfadjoint operators generated by the equation and the boundary conditions, which govern small vibrations of an ideal filament with non‐conservative boundary conditions at one end and a heavy load at the other end. The filament has a non‐constant density and is subject to a viscous damping with a non‐constant damping coefficient. The boundary conditions contain two arbitrary complex parameters. We derive the spectral asymptotics for the aforementioned two‐parameter family of non‐selfadjoint operators. In the forthcoming papers, based on the asymptotical results of the present paper, we will prove the Riesz basis property of the eigenfunctions. The spectral results obtained in the aforementioned papers will allow us to solve boundary and/or distributed controllability problems for the filament using the spectral decomposition method. The paper is concerned with the solvability for several nonlinear boundary value problems of fractional p‐Laplacian differential equation involving the right‐handed Riemann‐Liouville derivative. By applying monotone iterative technique, lower and upper solutions method and the Banach fixed point theorem, sufficient conditions for existence and uniqueness of extremal solutions are obtained and they extend existing results. The article considers a three‐dimensional crack problem in linear elasticity with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The crack in this model problem is assumed to be a smooth open surface with smooth boundary curve. The hp‐version of the boundary element method with weakly singular operator is applied to approximate the unknown jump of the traction which is not L2‐regular due to strong edge singularities. Assuming quasi‐uniform meshes and uniform distributions of polynomial degrees, we prove an a priori error estimate in the energy norm. The estimate gives an upper bound for the error in terms of the mesh size h and the polynomial degree p. In this paper, we will study the lower bounds of the life span (the maximal existence time) of solutions to the initial‐boundary value problems with small initial data and zero Neumann boundary data on exterior domain for one‐dimensional general quasilinear wave equations utt?uxx=b(u,Du)uxx+F(u,Du). Our lower bounds of the life span of solutions in the general case and special case are shorter than that of the initial‐Dirichlet boundary value problem for one‐dimensional general quasilinear wave equations. We clarify that although the lower bounds in this paper are same as that in the case of Robin boundary conditions obtained in the earlier paper, however, the results in this paper are not the trivial generalization of that in the case of Robin boundary conditions because the fundamental Lemmas 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, and 2.7, that is, the priori estimates of solutions to initial‐boundary value problems with Neumann boundary conditions, are established differently, and then the specific estimates in this paper are different from that in the case of Robin boundary conditions. Another motivation for the author to write this paper is to show that the well‐posedness of problem 1.1 is the essential precondition of studying the lower bounds of life span of classical solutions to initial‐boundary value problems for general quasilinear wave equations. The lower bound estimates of life span of classical solutions to initial‐boundary value problems is consistent with the actual physical meaning. When one characteristic of the system is linearly degenerate, under suitable boundary conditions, we get the existence of traveling wave solutions located on the corresponding characteristic trajectory to the one‐sided mixed initial‐boundary value problem. When the system is linearly degenerate, by introducing the semi‐global normalized coordinates, we derive the related formulas of wave decomposition to prove the stability of traveling wave solutions corresponding to all leftward and the rightmost characteristic trajectories. Finally, for the traveling wave solutions corresponding to other rightward characteristic trajectories, some examples show their possible instability. A Legendre pseudo‐spectral method is proposed for the Korteweg‐de Vries equation with nonperiodic boundary conditions. Appropriate base functions are chosen to get an efficient algorithm.
